I've been their customer for nearly two years now, and just upgraded my equipment for a higher bandwidth now that my household has more internet users than it did when I first signed up. As with my initial installation in the fall of 2014, the service provided when they arrived here was professional and friendly, fast, pleasant, and problem-free. Terry showed up a bit early today, which was just fine considering that I was not thinking about how it would be 100 degrees outside before he left if he had shown up when I requested he arrive. I should also mention that I called at approximately 8:45 pm to request my upgrade, expecting to leave a message, and was pleasantly surprised when Terry answered so late and was super-nice about it being so late!
Their internet is not as fast as some can provide in the city for cheaper, but it's the best I've found in terms of price and service outside of big ISP service areas. Of course, bigger companies treat their customers like account numbers instead of people, and that's never been the case for me with Western Broadband. It might be easier or cheaper to add on satellite internet service to a big company that provides satellite tv, but I wouldn't know since I watch all of my television shows via the internet. Even on a lower tier, I had no problems streaming television shows via all the big sites (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Showtime - HBO has streaming issues even in a big city). Like I said, I only upgraded to better handle having an additional internet user in the house now - the lower tier was primarily only lagging when one of us was streaming and the other was playing an online game via Steam or Battle.net.
Their website is very simple, but their online payment system is so easy that it took me a while to figure out how to use it and not be confused because I was so habituated to overly-complicated websites designed to make the customer give up in frustration before ever finding a phone number to call for a problem or locating the information they were trying to find. Their late payment fees are extremely reasonable, and I love that they default to e-mail statements unless paper bills via the postal service are requested. As far as I can tell, they don't spend a ton of money on having really eye-catching webpages, mailing out paper bills, having unnecessary and redundant office staff, or a lot of unneeded frills. They charge a reasonable price for excellent service and a capable product that makes me wish I had known about them when I was still being bled dry and treated poorly by Time-Warner and a lot of other high-recognition ISPs. I think if I ever move back into the city, I'll consider seeing if they can provide my service there just for the service alone. It's nice to feel like the company I give business to treats me like a human being and a valued customer instead of a profitable annoyance to be tolerated so long as it lines one's pocket.
If you're in the middle of nowhere and are weighing your options, I think you'd be best-served going with ECPI - Western Broadband. If you're closer to the city and you have more options, I'd still recommend that you give serious consideration to giving this small-town company your business. The only downside I feel I should note is that no one will answer your call at 3 am when the service goes out and you think it might be something more wrong than the weather, but when that's happened to me it's always been a bigger outage somewhere up the server chain or weather-related. And, it is satellite, so you'll have short outages sometimes during storms, but I still have a better television picture streaming over their broadband satellite internet than some of my friends in town have via their land-based cable television providers. And, in case anyone is wondering, no one paid me or in any way encouraged me to review their product and/or service. I just saw they had very few reviews, and I think this company deserves all the business it can handle - they are just that great! read more
