From our very first interaction, there was no Audi service advisor/tech elitist attitude that you get when you take your car into any of the local Audi dealerships. He was welcoming and professional, and when I discussed what I needed to be done, he went over the costs for that specific service and would get back to me once the inspection was complete. Within a short period of time, he provided a detailed video review of the inspection and went over any additional actions that were recommended. I have a 2008 VW GTI, recently purchased and it needed some work. Needed AC pump, oil pump, new clutch and suspension parts and a multitude of other things to get back to daily driving. In a week the team at the shop was able to get it back to perfect driving conditions and I couldn't be happier. It's been 10k miles and hasn't skipped a beat. And to add to that it's at 190k miles. Original engine. Clutch feels like it's right off the production floor and AC is pumping that cool 60 degree temperature, like it should. Steve was a huge help with educating me on other tweaks I could do to make it even more enjoyable, like air intake and exhaust additions. He even keyed me into programs that pro's use to extend the life of the engine and car. The one thing I loved was his honesty. He didn't beat around the bush with things I didn't need or things I could add. And his KNOWLEDGE. It's astounding with euro vehicles. I've been trying to find a suitable place to take my MINI to get serviced and struggled to find the right place until this week. My MINI became essentially inoperable after driving it home from work. Took it to Pepboys thinking it was a battery issue which ended up being something completely different that they weren't equipped to handle. After getting dicked around by Crevier BMW 2 times, Steve took care of my issues. BMW X3's have a lawsuit going on because of their timing chain modules. I went to BMW and had terrible experiences with two reps there, Dan Canfield and Sonny. First, Dan tried to get me to pay to fix other unrelated issues after telling him what the problem was. The second time I went back, Sonny, basically started yelling at me, telling me I needed to pay $6,000 to dismantle my engine. Not sure why he needed to do all that because he never told me. All he did was yell like a child who doesn't get what he wants. How did I know what the problem was? Steve ran a diagnosis and told me exactly what was wrong, and told me about the lawsuit. He said, "BMW has a big lawsuit going on with this, take the car back, and they should address the issue as it's under warranty." When I showed up, these two geniuses who pride themselves on being Service Advisors for "years" had no clue what I was talking about and upset at the fact that I brought this up. They asked with a snarky attitude, "Are you a mechanic?" Anyways, I called Steve and went back there. Steve fixed the entire problem. Sure, I had to pay out of my pocket up front, but he did what he promised and took care of me. Steve saved my parts and showed me how to file my claim with BMW to be refunded (which I am in the process of doing). He called me a few more times after he repaired my car to check-in and make sure everything was still okay. Steve could have easily not told me about the lawsuit and sold me on fixing my car, but he didn't. His honesty is what sold me. Brought my 2nd MINI [2013 Countryman S] to Steve. It had been a couple years since we sold our 1st MINI, and passed the extented warranty with the dealership. He remembered us, and even our dog. It was very reassuring that 1) he was still driving his MINI and 2) the garage grew to accommodate another bay. "Check Engine" light came on, and dealership service center was going to charge $160 for diagnostic only + labor, which on average is about $100 an hour. Steve has always taken great care of my 2003 Mini Cooper JCW. He's replaced my engine, ABS module, and serviced my A/C. Every repair was done properly. These cars have a few known issues and Steve is able to identify them and correct or advise. If you give him the proper time to diagnose your vehicle you will not be disappointed! This shop is definitely cheaper than the dealer but remember the repairs can still be costly. It's inherent with the types of vehicles he specializes in. Picked up my first Mini, a 2007 R56 Cooper S, and needed a specialist as I have learned in the past that those who specialize in a particular car can usually diagnose via seat of the pants and sound. Steve at Westcoast Autobahn was exactly that specialist. An R56 owner himself, he was able to take a spin around the block and make some preliminary indications for what my new ride needed, and was not shy about sharing specific knowledge about the car, it's tendencies (like valve seals weeping and causing the smoke puff after idling for a while) and what was needed to get this odd clunking sound I was experiencing eradicated. He also corrected some things I screwed up while trying to be a driveway suspension pro. All in all, I walked away confident that I was in good hands, my immediate needs fixed, and a couple items on my "round 2" fixes when I am ready. This is the best review I'm ever going to post. Just wait for it! I've had my suspicions about this guy every time my wife would take her BMW in and come back with a different issue. I've met him before--Steve-- he comes off as nice, but I can tell by the way he was rambling to my wife that he takes advantage of women. I was in the background eavesdropping on their conversation while trying to take care of my 11 month old. He was just spewing out a bunch of nonsense making her open her wallet. I suggested to my wife that I should go talk to him, but she wanted to handle it herself, since she has known him for a while. Also, she knows I can be very direct and call someone out if I feel like they are taking advantage of me, and she wasn't ready for that yet. Fast forward 3 more trips and more money spent over the span of one month, and now I'm here writing a review on her behalf. Listen carefully folks, there is not a shred of doubt in my mind that this guy will create an issue to resolve an issue, or he won't even take care of the original issue all together. Let me go over some red flags to further illustrate my point, besides the car problems. First off, my wife comes from a lot of money, noticeable by her Rolex and other jewelry/accessories. These are things sales people notice, she was an easy target. One time she mentioned to Steve that she wanted to sell her car and she was curious about the value. When he asked what she wanted, she replied she wanted a new MDX for the family, something reliable . He responded by saying that's "Jap crap" which is a typical response for a German mechanic. He then suggested we buy a 2012 Mercedes ML that he knows about. Lol Why!? He was trying to sell my wife on an SUV that would keep her going back to his shop for many years to come. Hmmm.....Let's see, do we want a brand new car under warranty or a six-year-old car with guaranteed problems out of pocket? When my wife told me about this conversation, I had no doubt about his motives. It almost confirmed my theories. I haven't even got to the good part yet. Just today, 10/12/17, she went for a follow up to see if she was clear for a smog check. It has been smoking from inside the AC vents, as well as outside for over a month now and he keeps replacing hoses to no avail. He just keeps charging her for replaced hoses but the problem has never been fixed! To top it off, the car smogs more than ever before now as well. She went back to the shop to tell Steve, and he said that the smell was coming from a truck that she had parked next to... lol what!? I'm pretty sure she didn't smell the truck smoke when she was several miles away from the shop. She insisted they check her car. THIS IS WHERE THE GOOD PART COMES GUYS SO PLEASE LISTEN. While they re-evaluated her car, Steve was making small talk with my upset wife. My wife kept asking about the car and he was consistently changing the subject. As most know, we have had brush fires here in Southern California. Steve starts rambling off about how he thinks the fire fighters are purposely creating the fires in order to keep their jobs and make overtime money. Excuse me, but people have died and families have lost their homes. My wife tries to politely cut him off but he just keeps rambling. He keeps going on and on about this and says that it's necessary in order for the fire fighters to keep their jobs and make the money they want. Then goes on to say to my wife, "Why do you think you are here?" He then abruptly cuts the conversation and walks away. WTF!!!???? That's a Freudian slip if I've ever seen one!! hahahahaha This guy made an analogy comparing fire fighters creating fires to keep their jobs, with mechanics creating car problems to keep their business. Steve comes off as a hyper talkative person and he just let his cards slip/show. I simply couldn't believe what my wife was telling me. He was flat out disrespecting her and rubbing it in her face. Not only has he disrespected my wife, but he also disrespected the heroes sacrificing their lives out there. Today was confirmation that this guy takes advantage of good, naive people. read more
