I had the worst experience with these guys of any business I have ever had. I brought my laptop in for loose hinge on a Friday; although I had no problems with the operations of the computer, they insisted on running a diagnostic (for $45) and said they would let me know on Monday what they discovered. I didn't actually hear from them until the following Friday; although I called them twice during the week, they simply said they were trying to source a part and had no estimate. Finally on Friday they said that they didn't need to source that part, but they suggested I replace the hard drive (for $300); I told them I couldn't afford to be without my computer for more days, and if they could just do the initial repair that would be fine. They said OK and I could pick up the computer the next morning. Saturday I went over at 130 after having lunch with my son, and when I walked in, the tech started squinting at his screen. He went into the back and returned to tell me that 1) my computer was not ready (despite the fact that it was 90 minutes after "morning" ended) and 2) they had not repaired the hinge. So I was forced to return to the store an hour later to pick up my unrepaired computer. In sum, they had my computer for 8 days, they took $45 of my money, and at the end of the day all I have is a recommendation to make a repair I didn't not request, while they did not do the repair I did request. I live in West Seattle and I try to support local businesses, but this is one business to which I will never return. read more

I brought my laptop in to these guys for repair. This is a nightmare laptop that has had a ton of screen problems, even though it's considered a high end machine. The screen had gone blank, and the screen hinge had broken. Again. I paid for the rush service since I'm dead in the water at work without my laptop. The fixed it the next day. A couple weeks later the screen started having another problem that was different than the first two issues. I took it again again, and they said no additional charge to repair it. I really didn't expect this to be a callback issue since this is a nightmare laptop and this was a different problem than the first one. Class acts, and they stand by their work. Thanks for taking one bit of stress out of my life. Bonus points for being in the junction so I don't need to mail the computer off to some discount repair house and wonder when I'll get it back. read more

My Windows 10 newer HP laptop decided to no longer recognize my password. Quick research indicated that this was a known issue commonly experienced by Windows 10 users, which told me that this would be a simple and easy fix for a techie. Since I live in the area, my first stop was West Seattle Computers. The tall young man came from the back with a monotone "hello", and was met with the same. I quickly explained to him the problem and he quickly asked if I wanted to check in the computer, to which I declined, explaining that with such a common issue, a professional in the field could probably fix it within 15 minutes. He said that the one guy who would need to look at the computer was out. I asked if he was aware of anyone in the area who had the skill to fix the computer, to which he suggested RadioShack across the street. While I doubted that suggestion, I left the store and headed there. Once there, I again explained the problem to a gentleman who was packing inventory for this closing RadioShack store. He was personable, and empathetic to my situation, and even did some quick research to help with my next steps. He suggested to me the Microsoft Store where, ultimately, my issue was resolved in less than 15 minutes. Incidentally, the gentleman at RadioShack said that he wasn't surprised by my experience at West Seattle Computers. The single star you see above is directed to West Seattle Computers, but more specifically to the guy who chose to apply neither his resources nor his motovation to help me when I was standing desperate at his counter. If I were to review RadioShack in this scenario, obviously, I would give five stars. read more

I called this place and inquired about repair of water damage on my computer. I was quoted by Nathaniel $60 for cleaning the water damage for a total of $150 if the computer works. When I brought my computer in on Friday, the front desk guy Ron quoted me $105 for cleaning. Nathaniel intervened confirming the $60 quote so they were going to check with the manager Eric on the price discrepancy. I also tried to inquire what does the cleaning entails, and Ron went completely blank. I asked if this includes sonic bath cleaning and he said that they don't do that and "the technician uses cleaning solution". Three days later on Monday morning I called to check and Ron tells me the technician hasn't looked at my computer yet. So you mean to tell me you didn't do anything with it for three days, at least you could have opened it and let it dry over the weekend - I asked? Then he said 'oh we did that' and repeated what I said which sounded like a lie. He calls me few hours later to tell me there are water damages on various components, something I already knew because I opened the computer and saw the water damage indicators turned red. Again I asked him what exactly was done with my computer and again he is not capable of providing clear information, not even tell me if they tried to turn it on or not. What he was the most concerned about was that I need to pay they additional $45. I asked to speak to the Manager but he was out till Tuesday. I hang up but called a bit later to talk to the technician and Ron tells me he is busy and will call me later. I tell him I need to know what was done so that I can tell that to the next place I am taking my computer to. Again, some wishy washy answer how the technician is really busy and he cannot speak to me, but the Manager approved to have the $45 waived. Can I speak to the manager, can you have him call me? At this point, I don't expect the manager nor the technician to provide me with clear information. More so, I suspect there was nothing done on my computer, and that this place doesn't really know how to deal with this kind of issue. Ron asked me if I still want to pick up my computer, I said of course. Then he asked me if I need to have the data recovered, and I said no. When I went to pick up the computer, I was not able to get more details on what was done with it, even though the technician was just sitting idle watching YouTube. Again, Ron intervened and said he'll call the police, because I insisted on an explanation about the wash they supposedly performed on my computer. From other reviews, it looks like the only thing that this business can do with computers is transfer data. Why would I wanna deal with this place when its frontman lack basic customer service skills? And no thanks, data recovery is something that even a woman like me can do. For everything else, next time I am willing to drive outside of West Seattle if this is what it takes to have some honest repair done. read more

The employees here are great, unfortunately the owners decisions not so great. I purchased a laptop from West Seattle Computer and from the second time I turned it on I started having to call them because not much worked. They finally had me bring it in for a week. Same problems and more phone calls and back in iit went. Still did not work properly, so I took it in and asked for a credit for another laptop that actually worked. I was told they would have to run a diagnostic on it would and call me. A gal called from there several days later and said we can only give you 40.00 dollars because the entire opoerating system needs to be fixed. NO KIDDING !!!!!! #So buyers BEWARE read more

These nice people helped me out tremendously after I spilled coffee on my old Macbook Air laptop. They were able to fix it at a price I could afford. They kept in contact with me to let me know there would be a delay since a part they ordered did not meet their standards and they sent for a new one that was up to snuff. I went here in the summer of 2009 to get a fan replaced on my laptop. I would have done this myself, however it would have required taking apart pretty much the whole computer, the fan was pretty buried, so I took it to these guys. It took 2 months, because they kept ordering the wrong parts, or other things went wrong. Ultimately not only did they not fix what I came in for, but my laptop was bricked when they gave it back to me. All they offered was to sell me a new computer. I didn't review them at the time because I was getting married & had other stuff on my mind, but recently someone asked for a recommendation, and all I had to say was not these guys! read more

Please stay away from this place for computer repairs. Had a minor repair to my laptop that the problem was clear. Was told by front dest to have a $50 diagnostic done to make sure that its not just the minor repair thats the problem. Was told that the $50 would be subtracted from my total price after. Was told that it would be $130 to repair if it was just that minor problem. I know at Best Buy they would do this repair for under $100. But I wanted to stay local and keep money with the small businesses. So I paid the $50 for diagnostic. They called me and informed me it was just the minor repair that I said needed to be done. So I aggreed to have it done. When I came in to pick it up. They said the total was around $180. I said that they estimated $130. They said that was just an estimation. The minor problem was pretty clear. The estimate should be exactly on. We'll I thought OK, fine. He told me I had to pay $180. I said, that he didn't remove the $50 for the diagnostic I paid. He told me that it wasn't in writting and thats not what they do. I was pretty upset at this point. After argueing a little, he said Ok, he'll discount $20 and pay around $160. I was tired of this place and wanted out so I could write a review to warn people. To top it off, he notice my laptop was missing a key. Said he can get a key and put it on for $45-$50. Just disgusting. The laptop new was purchase for $400. Please avoid this place. I support small business, especially in West Seatle, but this place is terrible. read more

I have had a couple of great experiences with West Seattle Computer. They helped me diagnose a problem with my hard drive. After installation of a new hard drive, a shut down problem kept occuring so they did another diagnosis for free and helped pinpoint the problem and advise me of what to do about it. My home Wi-Fi network connection to my Lenovo laptop dropped without warning. Windows 8 diagnostics suggested possible network adapter driver issues. Ron guessed it was more likely a software issue related to windows networking software updates (mostly seen in Windows 10). He ran a quick command line update and that fixed the problem. I was in and out in 10 minutes. Couldn't have asked for better or more professional service. read more

I unfortunately had the experience of knocking a smoothie over my 2012 MacBook Pro 17'. I called West Seattle Computers and I spoke with Eric who told me I should definitely get it cleaned out vs letting it sit around to dry out. I brought it in shortly after on my lunch break and paid about 115.00 upfront for the service (partial $45? refund i believe if the motherboard is fried). About 3-4 days later (today) I received the great news that my macbook came back to life but needed a new optical drive ($65 I believe but I paid $115.00, I'm assuming labor?). No worries, I consider it a win because I love my laptop and they brought it back to life at an affordable price. From the beginning Eric was great and reassuring and the tech I dealt with Michael was very nice and assured me my laptop had a lot of life left and gave me some great options for upgrading it in the future. I would highly recommend this place and am extremely happy that I don't have to travel out of West Seattle to deal with professionals for my apple products!! read more

My previous HP computer started aging out in 11/17. I purchased a new one shortly thereafter. I took both new and old computers to West Seattle Computers for data transfer. The data was transferred shortly thereafter, all except the address book. I took my new computer and the old hard drive from my previous computer back to W.Seattle Computers. They found the address book and transferred it to my new computer. The hard drive on my new computer failed in 10/18. Under warranty, so shipped back to HP factory. Was returned in less than 10 days, but no address book. I took my computer with the new hard drive back to W.Seattle Computers to transfer address book again. Couldn't find it and I was told they might have to do 'data recovery' and that it would be expensive. In the meantime, I was using the public library to keep up with my emails, but since I had no address book, I could only respond to one person at a time. I decided to pick up my computer and old hard drive from W. Seattle Computers. This time I was told that the hard drive was dead, they couldn't read it, etc.... I took my computer and old hard drive to the Geek Squad. They reviewed all. The old hard drive remained readable. Also was told that the address book had probably been 'cut and pasted', rather than just 'copy and paste'. My backup documents folder had also been deleted. The Geek Squad found an old address book from 2005 and transferred that, so I would have something to work with. I had also copied files, documents, photos, etc.....from the hard drive to a flash drive prior to sending my computer to HP. The Geek Squad was very helpful to the whole process. If the staff at West Seattle Computers had told me why my address book had been deleted and offered to work with me to fix it, I wouldn't have to write this review. But, they didn't tell me the truth. read more
