I have purchased at least three computers from this company in the past, the most recent in 2014. Although at the moment my computer is working okay, I've been thinking about getting a new one that doesn't have a tower (although I do like my CD drive) and I do not trust Best Buy at all. I have messaged West Seattle Computers twice on their website and have left at least two messages on their phone number and have never gotten a response. I really hate to give one star since they have been really helpful in the past, but it's very frustrating when I can't get an answer about upgrading my computer. Recently bought a wireless router here when I was doing some office work in Georgetown. I had called Staples, Office Depot, Office Max and Radio Shack for pricing and was put on hold every time. I called West Seattle Computers and they picked up the phone on the first ring, matched Radio Shack's price and set it aside for me. The front desk guy (can't remember his name) was really friendly and handled the transaction very quickly, as I was in a big rush. I also purchased a Dell D610 Laptop from there early last year and have had no problems (other than spyware which was due to not renewing my Kaspersky). Top Notch! read more

I was fortunate enough to score a groupon to get my cracked phone screen fixed. They don't do appointments, so I dropped in and was told it would be about 75 minutes. It wound up taking a little over 90 because several more people apparently stopped in with their phones. Casey was wonderful! Very polite, obviously competent, and he seems to genuinely enjoy his job. He apologized for the delay, but I was fine with it; I'd rather it be done right than done quickly. He's only one person, and he also does the phone check-in/check out. TIPS: street parking on CA Ave can be a drag, but I found several spots nearby on Oregon. Apparently Mondays are busy, so if you can wait, he'd likely appreciate you dropping in on another day. Highly recommended! read more

I am in the market for a new computer and went into West Seattle Computer a couple of weeks ago asking if they could help me select one. I was told yes, that it would require about 1 hour. I told them I'd call to make an appointment. I called this morning to make an appointment. I asked if the appointment could be by phone. The man who answered the phone said no, insisting that it required me to come into their shop. I pointed out that when I was in their shop 2 weeks ago, no one was wearing masks, I asked why not. He said the owner doesn't require them to wear masks. I asked if he was aware that Governor Inslee has just mandated that everyone wear masks in public. He said he was aware of that. I asked if everyone in their shop will be wearing masks now. He said probably not. I told him that I refused to do business with a company that puts their customers and the public at risk. read more

I wanted to support a local business, so I gave them a shot. To reward my neighborhood loyalty, they charged me $50 (which they required upfront) to tell me to take it to Best Buy to get it replaced. I understand that their time is worth something, but $50 to tell me essentially "it's broken" seems like a slight over-estimation of the value of their time. read more

I do a lot problem solving for people, so I learn a lot of things along the way. One of those things is to call service people / technicians in advance, be specific about the problem, and confirm that this is something they can help with. Which is precisely what I did with West Seattle Computers. I called, I spoke to Ron. I said Ron, I have two Ipads, and I need to get all the stuff off of one and put on to the other. After some further details, he summarized for me that it sounded like I wanted a data transfer. I said yes, that is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I reiterated that the ipads were fully functioning and needed no service. Data transfer only, all day long. I then asked him if I could bring these two devices in the same day. Sure, says Ron. Feeling confident about the situation, I trek up California Ave, finally find some parking, and once inside the store, I'm addressed by a rather young guy (or maybe he's forty-five and looks and acts twenty) who, right off the bat, seems affronted by customers, even puzzled. I said, I'm here to hopefully drop off these two ipads, to get all the stuff off one onto the other. He said pretty quickly, we don't do that. I mentioned that I called beforehand and was told that West Seattle Computers does in fact, do data transfers. I spoke to Ron! He furrows his brows and says nothing for a bit. I ask him, well, should I leave? Do you really not do data transfers? He says well, hold on, I'm thinking. Then says, no, we don't, you should walk down the street to Mobi. It's not far. Okay, why don't I walk a couple of blocks with two ipads that don't belong to me in the pouring rain and wind and then walk right on back. I left, I did, and went to Mobi, had a great experience (but I drove there). Still, I'm surprised, not just by the disconnect between the techs, the complete willingness to waste my time, but also by the fact that a place that services computers doesn't also transfer data? Don't you kind of have to? Or maybe it's just the Ipads; or maybe Ipads are beneath the technological superiority of these folks. I don't know. But I won't be returning with any technology period. read more

They also offer malware/virus removal and prevention services, and they sell a useful collection of IT products in their storefront including hard dives (internal & external), thumb drives, RAM, routers, batteries, USB, HDMI & other cables of all sorts, etc. The repair services are excellent, and they are honest and forthcoming in providing you with options to solve whatever problem you may have. The store selection is more than I would expect from a repair shop, and they are careful to only stock good quality items. They also carry Sonos wireless HiFi systems which you can actually test out in the store. The sound is amazing, and you can stream music from pretty much any digital source imaginable (including your own music collection on a remote hard drive). The storefront is very clean and pleasant and features a couch in front of a flatscreen TV where you can chill out while you wait. The guys at West Seattle Computers are my PC dream team! Multiple issues with my Dell XPS had the speed down to that reminescent of dial up in the 90s - NOT a happy camper that my speedy, light super star computer was in such a state. These guys not only replaced the hard drive and set up all of my data to an exact mirror of what I had brought in, then restored the fan, set up an improved anti-virus and then Ivar patiently walked me thru a plan to keep from accuring so much garbage on my computer. Sure, I may have come into the store sweating, cradling my clicking external hard drive under my arm like a small baby made of china, but these guys were absolutely accommodating and did a really great job of explaining the best- and worst-case scenarios. The price seemed reasonable (i'd called a few places beforehand) and they promised (and delivered!) a quick diagnostic turnaround. I was elated to find they were able to recover most of my 500+ GB of files, and even THAT was delivered pretty quickly. Two weeks later, a different HD goes down. They couldn't save this one (damn hard drives) but they got back to me ASAP with the diagnosis so I knew to start working on Plan B. Will absolutely be bringing business back here as the rest of my externals are destined to fail on me eventually. read more

I brought in my laptop that recently had the keyboard repaired by Asurian's warranty team. The problem is that Asurian used a screw that was too long beneath my keyboard, resulting is a key that was slanted at a downward angle and only worked half of the time. West Seattle Computers usually has a 30 minute minimum repair labor charge ($45); however, because the repair was simple and quick, they only charged me $15!!! I was very pleased that they made this exception for me, as they were in no way obligated to. On top of that the owner of the shop and his team were extremely friendly and informative. They definitely earned this 5 star review. Edit: Also, I thought it was worth mentioning that this store is recently under new ownership. So any review written over a year ago is fairly irrelevant. Edit #2: adding my second review edit in the same day. Had to return to the shop after my keyboard repair because my computer was giving me a "secure boot error" (whatever that means). They crew in the shop informed me that there was a variety of issues that could cause this error, and they would need to perform a full diagnostic to pinpoint the issue. Much to my chagrin, this meant I would not be getting my laptop back until after the weekend. **Luckily before taking my laptop to the back, one of the crew members suggested I let him try a quick fix option on the off chance that it solved the problem. 5 minutes later my laptop was error free and I was logging in again. I had been researching for a new desk top computer at many stores and the Internet and was very dissatisfied with the poor customer service or no customer service at all. Than I walked into Computer Care in West Seattle; the best customer service, very knowable technical support. It was the type of service we have not seen in years. I purchased my computer from Computer Care, and will support them 100% . I also plan to purchase a laptop from them also. Keep up the good work Computer Care. The final outcome was good. The people were friendly. I got the impression when I dropped it off for diagnosis ($49) and then going forward with work necessary that the $49 went toward the final bill. I presented the computer with the obvious cracked screen and they determined it could just be replaced which they did and everything works great. Ok... I know I might get some negative comments from this review but here it goes... I took my computer here becuase my laptop fan was not spinning (I know, it's an easy fix). When I took it in I told them that it was a fan problem, but they insisted in getting a diagnoses which would cost 45.00 before tax. Which was ok with me, becuase I wanted to know what else was wrong with it. They said that they would call me later that day. They did. But it was less than an hour before they close when they called me. The guy that helped me was very mono-tone. And wasn't very nice. He seemed to be upset the whole time. I don't know if it was me that was upsetting him or if it was something else. So when they called they said it was the fan and that they have it in stock for 25.00. So I said ok do it. I don't know how much it usually cost to fix a computer, but at this place it was 90.00 an hour. When I got my bill I was pretty shock. It was over 160.00 just to fix the fan. Too much... If the guy helping me was a bit more polite I might of came back, just base on the fact that they did fix my issue and that I don't know how much other places are hourly. So I don't know if it was overpriced or not. And if the guy was more professional I might have given this place a 4 star instead of a three star. read more

I had a very minor problem with my laptop. I had to leave it for several days before getting a diagnosis and estimate which seemed high. Several days later, they called to say it was ready. I was also told that my free security system should be replaced with one costing $50/month, even though my free one had given total protection so far. When I got the laptop home, it no longer connected to WiFi although it had been fine before taking it to them. When I called them about that problem, he took no responsibility and said I could bring it in for repair at their regular price. I called PC Mobile which I usually use. The man who answered walked me through various steps. They didn't work, but it was free and easy. I took it in to PC Mobile, and within 20 minutes, the WiFi card which had indeed been disable, was repaired and working -- for no charge. read more

He helped me find an affordable, newer option, and then when that company had some fishy questions, dug behind the scenes to confirm it was not a good idea to proceed. This earned Eric my trust. He found another company for my phone, and it's going great. I brought my laptop for a new hard drive, and Eric again knew just what to do. The only reason I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is you have to be sure you talk to Eric personally when you're planning your service, not one of the techs, and make sure the notes contain exactly what you say, or miscommunications with the tech repair people can result. They know their stuff, and as long as you put your needs and exclusions in writing, you'll get what you need done right. read more

These guys are honest, slightly less expensive then everywhere else I checked (significantly cheaper than the Apple Store, if you have a Mac), and quick. The first time I left my computer with them, they said it would take about 48 hours. Two hours later I got a phone call that they were already done. A couple days later I had issues with my computer again, and they kindly took it back and opened it up for free, even though the problem ended up having nothing to do with the work they did the first time. I would highly recommend West Seattle computer, and I will definitely be back for any future problems I have with my laptops! read more

Laptop would not boot. Brought in and speed talker told me it would be $50 to diagnose. Paid the money. He then tried to turn on and I said if it could be fixed what would something like that cost. He said $335. I was stunned that he had an exact number on the spot! Next day I get a call. It's a bad drive. Gonna cost $335 roughly to fix. $50 doesn't get applied towards this. Just files taken off then $120!!! With the first fee makes it $170 to transfer pictures and word docs to a flash drive! Said could have been worse! What a crappy thing to say....sorry about the accident, you only lost an eye, could have been worse, your whole head! I won't be back. There are plenty of choices outside of WS. read more

This place is fabulous! 1). Employees identified themselves at the beginning of every contact I had with them. This really conveys a sense of professionalism and respect. It is so much nicer to hear "Hello this is John Doe from West Seattle Computers" than something like "Hey how ya doing? I heard you had a problem with your laptop". 2). Employee called me after I dropped off loaner computer to let me know that there are things that I can do with my own computer to make it work better and more efficiently based on what he saw on loaner laptop. Excellent customer service!! 3). When I tried to connect my repaired computer to internet I could not get a connection. I was on the phone with internet provider for about 1 hr with no resolution. The next morning I called West Seattle Computers and problem was fixed withing 20mins. The employee that I spoke with provided very clear, patient and professional instructions. Took my macbook in to have a diagnosis done on it. The machine wasn't booting and after trying all of the basic keypress sequences and trying to do a safe boot I was stumped. They charge $49 for a diagnosis which is fair. Unfortunately they had no clue why it was happening and instead told me it's working just fine. Ok, I can accept that. The problem arose when they asked me if I wanted them to clean the inside of the machine for an additional $60. I said "no, I can easily do that myself". To which they told me they had already done the work while the tech was inside the computer. They then said it would be $60. I agreed to pay and hung up. I called them right back though when I realized how dishonest it is to do work without getting consent and then charge for it. To top it off, the price of $60 for a cleaning normally covers the cost of taking the machine apart. Because they had already charged me $49 to take the machine apart, they were effectively double charging me for work they had already done. In the end they didn't charge me for the cleaning but I left feeling like they were really dishonest. I imagine other people get charged for this all of the time and either don't know better or are too shy to stand up for themselves. Shame on you West Seattle Computers! In addition, when you surrender your laptop and it's password along with all of the potentially sensitive files on your laptop to a tech, it feels really uneasy knowing that they are not 100% honest in their business practices. This place is great, I thought there was no hope for my laptop, I somehow damaged the screen so it was cracked! I just actually went in to see if they had laptops, which they do, but the guy asked why I was looking and after I told him about the screen he asked me to bring it in and he would look, for free, to see if it could be repaired/find a new screen!
