Extremely disappointed that after my dog had a dental cleaning on 8/21/20, she was not offered her 3 year rabies shot. Instead, I received a reminder less than 2 months later that her rabies was due so I brought her in on 10/12/20 for her shot. Imagine how shocked I was when they gave me the bill for $200 + for her vaccine saying that a full exam was required when administering the shot. This was LESS THAN 2 months later after paying $1000+ for her dental procedure/labs/xrays/ etc. Deplorable and obviously a very sneaky way to make sure they got more money. Apparently, an exam is required when administering a rabies vaccine...ok...then why wasn't that offered in August? I was told it just wasn't time yet for her rabies vaccine in August. A bunch a BS. They absolutely could have given her that vaccine in August. Very nice staff and really liked the vets but will not go back. read more

Reducing to one star. I took my new pregnant cat in to have a checkup and was hit with a $600 bill after they did X-rays without telling me how much it cost and if it was ok. All I wanted was to make sure she was healthy since she had never been to a vet. She had an ear infection...apparently a $400 ear infection... Now they are saying that they will need to recharge the exam fee when she gets her vaccines after the birth. Do not go here. Total scam. read more

We adopted a puppy in August and West Loop has taken great care of her. They are always responsive to my emails and phone calls when my puppy has eaten something funky or she doesn't seem herself. We don't live in the area but we happily make the drive there since we can count on good care. Their COVID protocols also make me feel very safe. read more

I have never met a group of people that show this level of commitment and care before. I don't think I have ever seen care at this level at a human hospital. They always call to follow up after every appointment. They show genuine compassion for you and your pet. They did a renovation/expansion of their space and polled their customers to ask what was important and what they would like to see. I don't always agree with their recommendations but they are open to having conversations about treatment plans and have been supportive of the decisions we make. They are not the cheapest option but I also feel that you get what you pay for here. read more

I would not recommend this vet for geriatric cats. I had two cats misdiagnosed. One died 5 years ago at age 10 after being diagnosed as behavioral but, it was pancreatic. I continued going until his sister was misdiagnosed at 13 years and is now treated by an internist who diagnosed small cell lymphoma after being on the incorrect meds prescribed by West Loop. I went to West Loop for 10 years and believe they are good for routine visits and younger animals. read more

I have had the most amazing experience at this Vet clinic! From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and warm from the receptionists and Vet tech. Dr. Holloway was super smart, knowledgeable, and patient with us while getting to know us and our puppy, Moshi. We previously went to a different vet but decided to switch to WLV strictly because of location - but I am so glad we did. They have really been top notch all around and I continue to be impressed with EVERYONE working here. I had an altercation with my breeder where she was threatening to sue if we didn't get Moshi in to be neutered at exactly 6 months. (Which was scary and completely out of line) WLC understood and took control to make sure We moved Moshi's appointment to as soon as possible so the breeder could settle down and take her threats away. I can't thank them enough for being so accommodating during such a strange situation. THANK YOU!! And we look forward to seeing you all in the beginning of January for Moshi's surgeries! read more

My dog (Dunkin) has been a longtime patient of West Loop. Recently, I noticed a small bump on Dunkin. I took him to West Loop and, unfortunately, it turned out to be mast cell tumor. Dr. Steve Larson performed Dunkin's surgery and found a second mass cell tumor. Both were removed successfully. Because Dunkin has an autoimmune disease, he has a specialist he visits once a year. When I took Dunkin to the specialist, she reviewed his surgery chart/results and said that she was "very impressed" with the results achieved by Dr. Larson. She said that many times, the surgeon is not aggressive enough with mast cell tumors, but that Dr. Larson did a great job getting good margins. Unfortunately, recently, Dunkin started having trouble breathing. Back to West Loop we went. The staff got us in right away. We saw Dr. David Gonsky. Dr. Gonsky took an x-ray of Dunkin's lungs and consulted with his specialist to develop a treatment plan. Over the last several years, I have always been so impressed with the care that the doctors and staff provide. It is apparent that everyone really cares. They always call to check up on him and he is always so happy to be there (he also goes once a month for a nail trim). I definitely recommend West Loop! read more

I have brought my dog here several times due to the convenient location of this clinic in the West Loop. I feel obligated to warn others about the shady business practices they engage in. The "compassion" or "concern" they show for my dog is a clever ploy for them to perform as many tests and studies that they can get away with. It's a shame I have to feel like I need to defend myself from being completely taken advantage of. For example, if I take my dog in for diarrhea, they will guilt me into paying hundreds (or thousand) of dollars for x-rays and blood work and expensive medications. This vet has a prime location right in the heart of restaurant row on Randolph street. They are paying their rent by charging obscene prices to perform unnecessary tests on animals with vulnerable and concerned owners. read more

West Loop Vet cares about one thing and one thing only - and it's not your pet. The TL;DR version of this is that you should take your beloved pet and wallet elsewhere (ahem four blocks away to GoodVets ahem) unless you want to be unnecessarily crying for your pet's health while they prey on your distressed state and rob you. And the worst part isn't the money; it's having to watch your pet get tested and treated for a quick a buck. They must have paid to be on all those "best vet" lists because I would sooner stand in line at the DMV on their busiest day of the year than go back to this practice. The longer version - for anyone still reading - is this. I adopted my dog in July 2020 and took her to West Loop Vet. Prior to knowing anything about my dog or even seeing her, they were on the phone with me recommending shots and treatment she would need immediately. I brushed this off and thought perhaps they were just being cautious since she's three and coming from a rescue. This behavior only got worse as they recommended more and more treatment due to recurring intestinal issues. They kept telling me something systemic was wrong with my dog, but didn't know what it was so we needed to keep doing tests to rule out certain conditions. At one point a vet of theirs called to tell me my dog's blood work was fine. Three days later another vet was telling me she might have cancer. Others have mentioned their inability to get organized, get on the same page, and get their act together so I won't even get into the admin nightmare that is West Loop Vet. I foolishly believed they were trying to help, they knew her history, and she was comfortable with them so I didn't want to rock the boat and take her elsewhere. But after a month of no answers, dozens of uncomfortable visits and thousands of dollars later, I took her to GoodVets - about four blocks away. The culprit of my dog's diarrhea, vomiting, and chronic eye infections? A f*cking allergy. The new vet deduced it in one visit and actually recommended I stop doing blood work and fecal testing for the things West Loop Vet alarmed me of because it's very common to see the same irregularities in dogs who have undiagnosed and untreated allergies. So we simply switched her food and conducted an allergy test, and she's doing SO much better already. The icing on the cake - GoodVets informed me that my dog's vaccination records stated that she needed the Bordetella shot every 6 months even though it's an annual vaccine. I am so happy my dog will never see the inside of West Loop Vet ever again. If you're looking for a new vet, skip West Loop Vet and go four blocks away to GoodVets. They took the time to look over 35+ pages of medical history thoroughly and even recommended against more testing when I brought it up. I liked them a lot for a while, and I went to them quite a bit, but there came a situation in which I was unclear about the rationale and purpose for an action they took. When I asked them what their standard policy was for handling those situations, they refused to tell me. I followed up, asking why they couldn't tell me their policy. They never responded to my question. That tells me they either didn't follow protocol or just didn't respect me as a client. Either way, it's not a place I would recommend taking your dog to. It's a shame, because I never had any issues until this point, and though we were in there several times a year, I think I was a really good and easy customer. read more

West Loop Vey is extremely expensive in the worst part is they try to upset you unnecessary procedures. The staff is nice but it is obvious that the veterinarians are consented to up-sell you services for your animal and used scare tactics because they know people love their pets. I was told that my annual checkup would cost approximately $200 and at the end of the check up I was given a bill of $460. They explained that I needed additional blood work which I therefore, felt obligated morally. Surprise, surprise there was absolutely nothing wrong with my animal and the tests all came back negative. I have spoken to over 10 dog owners at the West Loop dog park and they all have had the same experience. Disgusting. They also recommended countless over-the-counter medications which were drastically overpriced compared to stores. read more

This Vet Clinic is clean, the front staff people are wonderful and the vet techs are incredible! They know how to make a dog (and owner) feel welcomed and loved! My only concern comes from the feeling of being up-sold. I'm a minimalist but do what is necessary for my dog- vaccines, exams, etc. I realize there is a balance between offering all available services and selling those services- I couldn't shake the feeling from the veterinarian that she was trying to sell me health care for my pet. Warning to all Chicago Pet owners. Do NOT take your animals to West Loop Vet Care. They missed a giant hematoma growing off my dog's spleen (just removed and it was the size of a very large pomegranate). Dr. Sue at TLC animal hospital felt it within the first minute of examining my dog because she took the time to actually touch her before prescribing medication. Not to mention west loop had Oakley so over medicated on seizure medications she couldn't even stand up, it's a small miracle it didn't rupture. To add insult to injury west loop is highly over priced. I'm happy to pay for quality, I'm not happy to pay for over priced sub-parr service. When I complained, I got treated like I had money issues. Moral of the story stay far away from this clinic. Note my dog had been going to west loop since 2011 and Oakley had multiple visits a year. read more

Ugh. I've been dreading writing this because I'm forced to acknowlege that had we chosen Dr. Gonsky as our vet sooner, our dear little Carl might still be alive today. We adopted Carl and his brother Lenny almost 5 years ago- we had 4.5 years of two of the sweetest little kitties wrestling, chasing each other, watching the world together from the windowsill. Two little kitties curled up on either side of my head when I slept (I called them my purring earmuffs) and curling up in our laps when we lounged on the couch. Some of Carl's hobbies included: knocking off refrigerator magnets, putting various items in our shoes, chewing on lightswitches, attacking the vacuum cleaner and gently biting our elbows when he was hungry in the morning. A handful of times, Carl would get what we called "sack of potatoes"- lethargic, slow and just sort of out of it. It would last just a few minutes and then he'd be totally fine. The first time it happened we rushed him to the vet and they thought it was something neurological. Second time we rushed him to a new vet, they said he was asthmatic and gave us an inhaler. It happened a couple times more, we used the inhaler and within a few mins he'd pop right back into his old self again. A few months ago we woke up to find Carl on the ground, vomiting- my husband picked him up and he died right there in his arms. It was traumatic and devastating. Since then, nothing is the same- our elbows aren't being bitten, one side of my head is cold when I sleep, and that snooty vacuum cleaner is strutting around with impunity. And as for Lenny, he's crying for his brother and watching the world solo. I decide it's too hard to move Lenny (who does not travel well) so I call Dr. Gonsky to make a house call to check on him. He instantly develops a rapport with Lenny, and just takes his time letting Lenny get comfortable with him. He asks me about Carl. After I told him the story, he said in a flash that Carl had an enlarged heart. He said that x-rays and other tests would have missed it- they would have needed a heart ultrasound. Naturally, I'm now sobbing at this point but Dr. Gonsky is very sympathetic and understanding. He said had we known, we couldn't have reversed anything, but we could have tried medication to slow down what was happening and give Carl more time. Thus my statement that had I been going to him sooner, Carl might still be here. This guy is a class act. He's professional, he cares about animals, and he's sharp- he knew instantly what two other vets did not. I know all sorts of marketing campaigns try to make you draw the connection between loving something and doing something ("If you love your family, buy a volvo", "If you love your kids, give them Jif peanut butter") but no kidding: If you love your pets as members of the family, and losing them would put a hole in your heart, do not trust them with anybody but Dr. Gonsky. read more

Fantastic vet was recommended to me by my catsitter. They stay open very late (8 pm) and on Saturdays, which helps with my work schedule. I was initially worried that I wouldn't be able to find parking in the Loop, but there is reserved vet free parking right out front and no parallel parking needed! I appreciated the thoughtfulness of a separate entrance for cats vs dogs so that Mister Bug didn't have to pass by or sit by any barking pups. In the cat zone there are cubbies with rolled up blankets with feliway that you can use over your carrier if your cat is nervous. Once we went into the exam room the staff was very friendly and the doctor's exam was more thorough than any the Bug has had. Plus...I didn't have to hold him when they stuck the thermometer up his booty. They did bloodwork in house as well as x ray and I got the results right there. They offered me tea while I waited. Plus, they called the next morning to check in. So stoked that this is my new vet. Yippee! read more

Let me start off by explaining a few things: I'm an experienced dog owner. I'm an obedience instructor and the assistant manager of a dog daycare/boarding facility. I have strong opinions and have made many non-traditional choices for my dogs, many of which most vets disagree with/disapprove of. These include: At home vaccinations (except for rabies) Feeding a raw diet Leaving my dog intact (no spaying) I am, consequently, very very picky and a bit vet phobic. So when I say that I whole heartedly recommend Dr. Gonsky, I MEAN IT. First off, he was straight forward without being rude when it came to explaining his concerns about in home vaccinations. After we talked for a while, I put his fears to rest by assuring him that I handled the vaccines properly and would be happy to get my own records (and records from my breeder) to him ASAP. He was satisfied with this and did not pester me about it. Secondly, he was supportive of a raw diet! Again, just like with the vaccines, he wanted to know exactly how I was doing it, what I was feeding, and did if I knew the risks. Once I explained my dog's diet and assured I was an experienced raw feeder, he simply said, "Wow, so do YOU eat that well?" Haha! No trying to push any brand of kibble on me at all. Third, he had no issue with my choice to leave my girl intact, and in fact, when I explained that IF she is bred it would be following titling and health testing, he was downright supportive! No lectures with the "OMG CANCER PUPPIES AGGRESSION PYOMETRA" nonsense. He was excited for me, wished me luck in competition, and said they would gladly do my dog's health testing when the time came. Woohoo! Hooray for vets that support responsible breeding! I love love love that we discussed my dog's various risk factors and decided what to vaccinate for from there. He said he would NOT bother with Lyme if I use a spot-on and don't venture into Lyme heavy areas often. Love it! And he wants to titer test my dog for distemper rather than keep juicing her up. Awesome. The clinic itself keeps incredibly detailed records. I mean, they wrote down everything I told them. How much she exercises, her appetite, how often I feed her, etc. It was impressive. They also asked my permission to give her a non-raw treat, which was very thoughtful. Very thorough exam. The facility is beautiful and sparkling clean as well. Parking kinda sucks but it's the Loop, so you can't expect any different. It IS expensive, but you do get better service and a long, thorough exam. My dog's appt consisted of an exam, Rabies vac, fecal float, and Drontal dose (wormer) and came to $200. I could have paid $50 less somewhere else, but I really feel that West Loop was worth it to have a vet I like and trust. read more

I really do love West Loop Veterinary Care. Yes, they are pricey- but after working at an animal hospital in the past, I truly can say their quality of care is worth it. They are very thoughtful with how they go about their care/diagnosis and have the cleanest facility. My dog, Lucky, had Giardia and they quickly worked with us to clear it up fast. Even afterwards, the receptionist gave us some great tips on preventative care such as cleaning the paws after each walk. I brought my cat in since she was having some breakouts around her mouth and face. I feel this vet is not used to handling cats. When they were trying to diagnose her, they wanted us to run several tests that resulted in hundreds of dollars in testing. We never had a clear understanding of what was happening with our cat and I felt like the vet was playing a constant guessing game. Even when the vet took our cats temperature, she had to Google if the cats temperature was normal. Unfortunately, I had a poor experience at this vet clinic and I will not be returning. I did find another vet in West Loop that provides a better service with more confident Vet technicians at a much lower cost! read more

When your cat is old enough to see R rated movies (in human years) and well past a senior age (in cat years), you have to make some tough decisions in life, none of which you can ask your cat's opinion on. Case in point- I went out of town for a work trip, and left kitty at a friend's house where I knew he'd be happy, fed, warm and safe. Sadly, kitty was not thrilled with the litter box situation and elected to pee on my friend's son's bed. Three times. I'd been avoiding the inevitable vet visit where they tell me that it's time to say goodbye (and to my knowledge there was nothing wrong with him other than old age, but you never know), but I thought he might have a UTI. I was lucky enough to get in right away after my trip, and everyone was wonderful from start to finish. I had initially heard about this vet when attending Taste of Randolph and figured if the staff was that nice at a festival, it's probably a good place overall and worth a trek from the North Side. Yes, it was a little pricey, but he hadn't had a workup in awhile so he needed it. Other than an ear infection, nothing was terribly wrong with him, although his kidneys aren't doing that great (as happens with kitties- I lost another cat to kidney failure 4 years ago). They made some recommendations, but weren't pushy about "let's take your cat apart and put him back together to save his life" as can happen at vets. He's lived in 5 states, for crying out loud, the last thing he needs is kitty dialysis or other such nonsense. What made it great- a personal phone call with his results well after business hours and a handwritten thank you note. Only suggestion for them- in the follow up email with other recommendations- make sure his name is used all the time so it is personalized to him...and not the cat the form email was last written for. read more

It's not often that I'm in the mood for a 5-star review after spending hundreds at the vet. Dr. Gonsky deserves it. Ever snce she was a wee one, I've been bringing my pug Lemon to a big, very reputable practice. I never had anything bad to say about them until instinct (and Yelp) told me to try the much closer West Loop. Yeah, she's a strong, healthy pooch, but Dr. Gonsky gave her much more than the cursory once-over I was used to. He mentioned a couple things that we should keep an eye on -- things I'd never heard at the other practice. Now that my pup is almost an old lady, and it's time for awful-sounding things like "senior wellness checks," I know we're in great hands with West Loop. Oh, and you know what else I like? That they take blood and give vaccines right in the room. It always made me sad when Lemon was taken "to the back," only to come out 10 minutes later, terror in her eyes as she scratched and scrambled to get to me. It's so nice to see how gentle they are with her, and to feel all proud as she takes the needle like a champ. Go, Lemon! My one and only caution: Get out your calendar and plan ahead. The doc keeps shorter hours than most, and he spends more time with each patient. I promise, it's well worth the wait. read more

I recently moved to the city and was looking for a new vet for my cats. I was in love with my old Veterinary office so I have pretty high expectations, especially since my cats are part of my family. I found Dr. Ken Schwartz to be very impersonal towards me and my cat. I also felt like he thought the questions I asked him regarding my pet's health were stupid. He also suggested that maybe I didn't know of to read the measuring cup properly and that I was overfeeding my cat because of that. That is just insulting! I want to give West Loop Veterinary another chance because I've read so many rave reviews but will try a different doctor next time. ---Update--- After going back I have decided that I just didn't have a good first experience and was not a good fit with the first doctor I had. I have only had pleasant experiences since I have gone back. My only complaint is that I feel like I never see the same doctor twice. This could just be the times I am free, so it's no fault of West Loop vet. I have seen Doctor Gonsky, Dr. Kathryn McFadden and Dr. Mike Boling - all of whom were very easy to talk to and took excellent care of my cats. I also never once felt belittled by these doctors like I did with Dr. Schwartz. Dr. Gonsky even took the time to share information from a medical book with me so I better understood my cat's condition and made sure to ask me if I had any questions. I also like that the doctors provide you with an emailed outline of what was discussed in the appointment. read more

I have and still do, live with multiple rescue cats inside the home and manage outside feral colonies(all "fixed" and micro-chipped). In 2007 I moved to South Loop area and started to bring each kitty to West Loop Veterinary Care - Some of the kitties I care for have special needs or are FIV and symptomatic so doctor visits for them are not always a walk in the park...The doctors at West Loop have managed to calm my fears and the fears of each cat, while helping them heal. One thing I learned over the years working with stellar veterinarians such as West Loop is that they encourage good communcation between client and doctor. I realize that the doctor cannot always help an animal just by routine observation, running tests etc...Only I can provide and describe in detail the day to day information - the symptoms, eating, drinking, elimination, behavioral patterns, that I know from my relationship with each cat. All my input helps the doctor diagnose not just the cat's ailment but the cats entire state of being. I know that West Loop is an evolved practice for dogs and cats utilizing state of the art diagnostic equipment (which I have seen during an open house tour),conservative and holistic treatments. They rock- really. Each doctor at West Loop has unique qualities rounding out the personality of this evolved-very cool practice- Super friendly accommodating staff and techs to boot!! The cats I live with have seen Dr. Gonsky mostly and recently Dr. Boling. Dr. Gonsky is very straight forward and will offer me his opinion after discussing treatment options. Dr. Boling is the cat whisperer. He has a gentle voice which cats (and me) love, and also an awesome communicator- so he knows all he can about my cat and my relationship with my cat. I am not wealthy by any standard, so I put aside money for my cats care plus I have a Care Credit account which is convenient when I need to use it. I have high standards for the medical care each cat receives so I am willing to pay for it since West Loop delivers on that for me and the kitties. Kudos!!! Impressed is not a strong enough word when it comes to my experience, so far, with this place. I brought my 10 year old Pug (Bingley) here, for the first time, last week to have an ear infection diagnosed. Bingley has had multiple ear infections in the past, and when we were living in California, we would take him to the vet, they'd look at his ear, and say "yep, that's an ear infection, here are some drops, use them for 10 days and he'll be fine." Oh no, not so with WLVC. For the first time ever, the doctor suggested that it might not be multiple ear infections, but one nasty infection that has never completely gone away. They swabbed his ear, sent it out for a culture, and last night at about 8 pm (well after their office hours, I'm sure) the head vet gave me a call to personally go over the results and to discuss a treatment plan. I won't go into all the details of what he is prescribing, but let's just say we spent at least 15 minutes on the phone together discussing Bingley's health. During that time, the vet also noticed that we were charged for something that we did not receive, and credited our account right then and there. As for the facility itself, the location is super convenient for those who live in the Loop, it is very bright, clean, and pleasant, and the staff are all wonderful and friendly. Coupled with the quality of the vets, their demonstrated concern for the animals, and the honesty in billing, I have to say that this is quite possibly the best veterinarian experience I have ever had. I will be sad when we finally move out to the suburbs... although, we may end up bringing Bingley back here even then based on all of the above. One last thing. Having lived in Southern California for most of the last decade until recently, my perception of cost of living type issues might be a little skewed, but compared to the routine fees we paid out there for veterinary services, WLVC was very reasonably priced. Something I had not expected for an animal clinic located in such a prime location. If you live in or around the Loop and have an animal, take them here. That's all there is to it. read more

Dr Gonsky is amazing and he has built the perfect veterinary practice. The care that he and his staff show towards animals and their owners is second to none. It is clear that Dr Gonsky cares deeply about animals and recruits staff who are the same. I had previously used the Near North Animal Hospital and felt the vet there was very heavy-handed with my cat and lectured me as opposed to talked with me. The absolute opposite is true of Dr Gonsky - he calmly discusses treatments without making you feel like a moron/idiot/child and you leave knowing that his advice is spot-on. There is free parking at the front and if you don't have a car they will call a cab for you when you leave so you don't have to stand on the street and hail one. I need to update my review of West Loop to share a recent story. Sadly, I had to let go of my 16 year old cat ZsuZsa a few weeks ago. I could not be more thankful or lucky to have had Dr. Gonsky as a vet. Not only is Dr. Gonsky extraordinary in his field, but he is a master of dealing with people during the roughest time during pet ownership, the end of it. I love my cat dearly and went full tilt berserk in her final four days. We're talking not showering, not eating and crying until my right eye wouldn't open all the way anymore. Oh yeah, and whiskey, plenty of whiskey. When communicating with West Loop, I cried on the phone, I cried in the waiting room, I cried in the treatment room. And we're not talking some cute single tear movie crap, we're talking full on mess with more than just tears running down my face and inhuman, chortling noises. Dr. Gonsky could have called the psych ward on me. Instead, he was kind, understanding, caring and gently walked me through ZsuZsa's last 2 days, even providing a treatment for her to lessen her pain so I could spend one last day with her while I accepted the inevitable. The next day, when I had to let go of ZsuZsa, again Dr. Gonsky was an amazing support for me. I am so lucky that I went through this ordeal with him gently guiding and supporting me. My friend who accompanied me was blown away by Dr. Gonsky as well, saying he'd never seen a vet so caring. And to top it all off, a few days later I received a sympathy card from West Loop which everyone had signed. Amazing!! If you want a vet who is not only an amazing with animals, but amazing with people as well...see Dr. Gonsky. Original Review: I researched vets online and in depth for almost 30 hours and every second of it paid off when I chose West Loop Vet. Dr. Gonsky and Dr. pare seasoned professionals I completely trust with my cats. Dr. Gonsky removed 4 teeth and gave a cleaning to my 13 year old cat, Dusko, sent him home with a morphine patch and Dusko was fine the next day. I was TERRIFIED of having him put under for the procedure, but West Loop carefully watches all vital signs during procedures to ensure there are no issues. In under 20 minutes flat Dr. Pappas successfully diagnosed my cat, Lexi, with hyperthyroidism, which was confirmed by tests. Dr. Pappas gave me all the information necessary to get the treatment I need for my cat and worked with the other clinic (radiation therapy) in an effective and efficient manner to ensure Lexi was taken care of. What was amazing to me about West Loop was not only the level of expertise, but the understanding that the entire staff has about the relationship between pets and their owner! Technicians and front desk employees remembered my name and my cats named, asked me how they were doing, called me at home to check on the cats (and me because I was a blubbering idiot to be honest) and made me feel like I had taken my cats to a empathetic place where they would be cared for on each visit. My long-haired German Shepherd (Hudson) and I have lived in 3 different cities: Munich, Dubai and Chicago. Naturally, I've had three different vets, all of whom had been equally baffled by Hudson's medical problems. For the first two years of Hudson's life, he has had steroid injection after steroid injection, pills, ointments, powders, topical washes and creams - you name it, we've done it! Needless to say, I had finally admitted defeat. One sunny day, I was at the Bartleme Dog Park in the West Loop, and a really kind man approached me about Hudson. I remember thinking "here we go again... someone is going to point out all of Hudson's ailments and Im going to look like a hopeless dog-mum because I won't have any answers." Only this time, it was different. The man I had met was certainly no ordinary man, he soon became our saviour. In less than one month, Dr. David Gonsky had transformed Hudson without the use of steroids, pills, ointments and so forth. Furthermore, he had referred us to a highly reputable animal dermatologist for his other issues and we've been flying high ever since. I have also had the honour of meeting two other stellar WLVC Veterinarians: Dr. Boling and Dr. Yacker (who is our current Guardian Angel). What really has stood out in my experience thus far, is the consistency of professionalism amongst everyone working at the West Loop Veterinary Care; along with their high level of expertise, their passion, friendliness and complete devotion to their patients. I simply cannot begin to emphasise what an exceptional team they have. I trust in them explicitly and I will forever be grateful to them. From the minute we walk through their doors to the moment we wave goodbye, Hudson gets showered with love, hugs, kisses and even a cheeky treat or two. For the first time, I can finally say, I feel safe. I can't express how amazing West Loop Veterinary care has been. Recently I had a situation where we needed an urgent appointment - I wasn't a previous customer but they found some time for me within the next 24 hours. I was shocked by the kindness and attention both the vets and technicians provided my dog. I have a snippy Chihuahua who is not good with strangers, but by the end of the appointment he was help by one of the staff members without an issue. The doctor provided me realistic advice and cost saving options. I know this vet is a little more expensive that others, but I didn't think it was very bad. On top of everything, we unexpectedly had to put down one of our dogs. It all happened so fast, and was incredibly emotional. West Loop Veterinary Care helped us along the way in the best way they could. read more

I'm new to the area and just started bringing my dog here. She went in for her annual appointment and shots. We were seen right away when we arrived, the vet (Dr. McFadden) & vet techs were all very competent and the service was great. Dr. McFadden personally called the next day to see how Molly was doing after her shots & then they were very prompt with her test results after that. Full disclosure, I know someone who works here so that could make me biased, but I also know that behind the scenes they are clean, organized, competent & take great care of the animals that come in. She's worked at other vets previously where this is not the case and she would not recommend, so that says a lot to me. I've read other comments that they are pricey, but having recently moved to LA they seem competitively priced to me, but I don't know much yet about what Chicago prices should be. Parking on Randolph can be painful but patients can use the loading spots out front. read more

We do not have sufficient words to express how grateful we are to the West Loop Vet family, especially Dr. Gonsky, for making the extremely difficult experience with our one and a half year old cat Snowie much less stressful. Young Snowie started having seizures in August 2011. After visiting several local vets, a friend recommended we see Dr. Gonsky. It was love at first sight for us! Dr. Gonsky spent over an hour with us trying to understand and document all of Snowie's health problems and symptoms as it is very rare for cats to have seizures. Unfortunately, Snowie's condition worsened. Dr. Gonsky and his staff were extremely patient and kind when I called the office at least a few times a week with updates. Dr. Gonsky ALWAYS called us back personally, and made sure we understood treatment and cost options for each next step. Finally, the time came when we had to put Snowie down. It was an incredibly hard step to take, but Dr. Gonsky was right there, going through every step with us. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he treated Snowie and my family with respect, dignity, compassion, and understanding. We are heartbroken that Snowie is gone, but are thankful to have found a new vet! read more

I brought our new puppy, Remi, here just a week or so after we adopted him. Immediately upon entering he encountered a huge dog an nervously had an accident on the floor. I was prepared to clean it up myself, but in no time a staff member was there to calm Remi and quickly clean the mess. Once we entered the examining room, the vet assistant got on all fours and quickly gained Remi's trust and adoration. She stuck around for a minute until the doctor came in. She too, whose name escapes me, was very knowledgeable and completely put me at ease. I would highly recommend this facility. The staff was great, the facility itself was clean and open, and the appointment was quick and painless. 5 stars! read more

West loop veterinary care is absolutely wonderful. Parking is never an issue for me, the waiting room/exam rooms are always clean, and the staff are always very friendly and caring towards my dog. I've had to call in a few times with certain questions from home and have always had nothing but polite and helpful interactions. I can't say enough about Dr. Edwards too. She is an amazing veterinarian. You can tell she has a true passion for her job, not only from her knowledge about my pet but because of the attention and exceptional care she provides every time we come in for a visit. read more
