I have been bringing my dog here for a year, everyone has been so great and sweet to him & I the last new times my dog had a really hard time which was odd and the haircut was awful & it took over 4 hours. I will not be returning I was crying when I saw my dog, the lady told me some dog was bleeding my fiancé stopped me from calling to complain. I finally decided to give Petco another chance for a grooming appointment for my 7lb dog after being cancelled on four separate time. yes, four times! and always on the day of the appointment. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a terrible decision. When I picked up my dog after his grooming appointment, I noticed nothing unusual at first. However, later that day, I saw him licking his paw non stop. Upon closer inspection, I was horrified to find an injury with visible redness between his tiny toes. Petco never mentioned anything about hurting my dog, which made their lack of transparency even more appalling. I called them the next day (as it was late when I discovered the injury) and was told the manager wasn't available. The employee I spoke with said they'd need to contact upper management to determine what to do. A day went by before I got a call back, only to be told the same thing. I informed them I was traveling to Vegas, and they promised to let me know which vet I could take my dog to. The condition was that if the vet determined the injury was Petco's fault, they would cover the costs. If not, they wouldn't do anything--not even offer a refund for the grooming service. To make matters worse, they never called me back as promised. I disputed the charge with my bank, and now Petco is fighting the dispute, knowing full well they hurt my dog. This is not just poor service--it's outright negligence. I will find the appropriate channels to hold Petco accountable because this treatment is unacceptable. Do not take your pet here for grooming. They are extremely unprofessional and rude. It's impossible to make an appointment because they never answer the phone and booking online is not an option. There are much better "small business" grooming salons throughout the city. Do yourself a favor and go to one of them. Been meaning to leave review before now. As this is our neighborhood Petco we shop there at least once a week. Love this store. It is a bit smaller than the typical suburban petco being a city store, but it meets all our pup's needs. The staff are always friendly and very helpful! M, our pup, always insists on accompanying in store visits as she loves the staff and the treats too. Have not tried the grooming services as our dog had a terrible experience from a different non-petco grooming salon, but judging by other reviews we definitely will in the future. read more

Petco deserves -5 stars. My birthday is 8/28 and my husband said I could get some guenea pigs as an early birthday present. So I went and got the cage and all the food and supplies and finally got my two baby boys. I got then on 08/13/2020 and I went home with my boys. Everything was going well they were eating and playing and making little squeaky noises. Until 08/16/2020 one of my little boys had passed (Nibbles) on and I was told to deliver him back to the store to get my refund. they said he died of a stroke from a heart defect that was his since birth. So I did return his body. And after that I set up a vet appointment for the other. Just to check him out. I talked to a rescue to get him a buddy and they told me make sure he was a boy so I took him to a vet. They brought her back and my last boy was actually a girl (Tato) but she was vary sick and needed vet attention but their vet was out till Tuesday this was on 08/21/2020. I took her back to petco for them to take her to the vet as the 30 day claims they would have to take her and pay for her care. they gave me a refund before she left. I'd would have had to purchase her back after she was done at the vet. I was told I would get a call about what the vet would have to do. And at 11:40am on 08/22/2020 I received a call saying she passed away that morning. I dont recommend them for anyone who wants to get any pet. If tato and nibble lived it would have been a different story. But they're passed on now. Please do find a resue or a certified breeder to guarantee the health of your future pet. read more

Still keeping my review as two stars, but I want to further update the deficiency in Petco. I heard from another customer who was also caught in the same situation this past Saturday (where we had 8 am appts, but no groomer until 9 am). Apparently, Keila did call in at 7:30 am that morning with an emergency and let Petco know she wouldn't be in. Emergencies come up (we've all been there), so I don't fault Keila in that she did call in. However, I do fault Petco for a) giving me the impression that Keila just "overslept" and didn't hear the phone ringing, and b) not offering me more compensation for how much I was put out. Coupons that expire in one week don't cut it...especially when I find out the other customer got a percentage off her bill for her inconvenience. Petco completely handled the situation poorly and didn't try to make up for it. Obviously, the management at this store has greatly slipped since Bella left. read more

I feel the need to let the store manager and everyone know that Keila is so so so great! I love the way she handles my dogs with care and attention. Never seen her yell and use force at any dogs there. She is an amazing groomer as well. I always love to ask and hear her opinion how she will groom my dogs. I trust my dogs with her and almost want to only have her handle and groom my dogs. She and Pablo (i think that's his name) are both great! Now that I have moved away from that neighborhood I still drive a half hour to this store for my dogs' grooming because of Keila and all the petco staff in this store. This is one of the only Petcos I have encountered that does not reek of pet poop. I don't know how they do it but I appreciate the poo-free odor. Expect to see a lot of little pampered poochies in here with names like "Lily" and "Tobias" because it is a sneeze away from River North. I come here when I am at work and need to make emergency runs for Newman, my cat. Recently, I came up to the counter with seven different "pet boundary" sprays (Newman is having a field day with the leather furniture at home). The helpful employee told me which one was best and added that if it didn't work, I could always return it (this was all taking place while Tobias' owner impatiently complained behind me that not enough people were working at the register. I've put off writing this review for about a month now, but please be warned before taking your pet here to get groomed! I have a French bulldog with allergy issues. I usually wash him myself, but figured as I was traveling why not pamper my pet and take some grunt work out of it for me. We showed up early so I could discuss allergies and point out sensitive areas. When I arrived to pick him up I was double charged what they quoted me on the phone. I hesitantly still paid and started to shop a bit. Then I thought about it... These add ons were never explained as up sells. I was refunded for add ons. It wasn't until I got up the escalator and picked my puppy up in my arms. Beads of blood dripping from where his tear stains were!! They tried to scrub them off! They gave me a full refund, but about a week later I take a trip to the vet because of a bacterial and skin infection! Laid me back $250. In conclusion this was from a bath. A bath. I repeat a bath only. Never again, please think twice. Better training is needed. The general manager was very nice, but it seems a little too late. read more

This Petco's grooming salon is terrible - especially Lucia. It's her second time grooming my dog. First time she shaved him like an alien without notifying me prior. She told me my dog was matted so she had to shave him - understood but she did a terrible job even shaving. The hair was uneven for around the head where it was not shaved. I was super shocked and mad the first time but since this place is super close to my place I decided to give it another shot. I got couple ok ones so I didn't have much complaint. Second time I got her and I finally learned not to go to this groomer again. She told me my dog is a little bit matted on the butt which was totally fine. Later on she charged me $30 for dematting (I've never gotten this price for a dog that maybe has a mat on a butt area) and $15 for trim his face round. Plus the basic grooming for $50 it totaled up to almost $100!!!! $100 for a grooming that kept all the length w a bit trim around the face????? WILL NOT GO BACK AND NEVER EVER HAVE HER GROOM YOUR DOG. read more

I can't really complain about the rest of their store, but their grooming salon is terrible. Due to it being a new store and Petco's otherwise negative reputation as groomers, they have really slow business and don't keep a groomer there the entire time. They have one groomer two days a week, the rest of the time they have "bathers" who are highly untrained and potentially dangerous because they don't know how to handle animals. The store management mostly stays out of the grooming salon, and who knows what goes on in the back. Their bathers are untrained and unsupervised. You don't have to have any experience to be a bather, and as you know dogs can get traumatised by the experience of bathing and blow drying. The last time I was there there was one girl by herself who had been there less than 2 weeks. How do you know your dogs not being washed in scalding hot or cold water, getting soap in it's eyes, being pulled or pushed around while it's being dried or in transit? read more

This is our neighborhood pet store. Our dog loves to walk around and take toys from the shelves. We also attend puppy play time (which is free) every Sunday from 10-noon. Anita runs this group as well as our training group. She is great to talk to about dog's behaviors and needs. We always ask her tons of questions. **Hint for all football fans: bring you dogs here on Sunday from 10-noon and it knocks them out for the afternoon- allowing you to watch the games. read more

I don't think I would survive if this Petco wasn't across the street from my apartment. We are here every week, sometimes twice a week and the experience is always pleasant. I love the staff - they are so friendly and helpful and great with my dog. One time, when I first got my dog, we were in here and she peed in the middle of the store. I was so embarrassed and began looking around for paper towels to clean up and almost immediately a staff member was right behind me already taking care of it. I needed a new brand a food for my cat because he was getting sick on Iams and one of the employees spent 10-15 minutes educating me on the different types of cat foods, and what would be best for my cat in particular. They are SO GREAT with exchanges (my boyfriend accidently purchased the wrong dog food, and they took the opened bag back without any questions). They are very understanding if your pet doesn't like a food, treat or toy and you want to return or exchange something. I could not ask for a more convenient or friendly pet store across the street from me. A Petco is a Petco... all big box stores are the same. But this one is great because the staff is so attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. And, they groom my pomeranian and always do a great job! read more

As a pet supply store, this is a pretty typical Petco. They have good variety of supplies, helpful staff and a good groomer like many others. The value is good, and you'll always be able to find what you're looking for. What sets this particular Petco apart is the dog trainer, Anita. Back in August we adopted our 2-year-old Shitzu-Maltese and quickly realized that he may never have had a stable home before, much less training. He was friendly, but he was also fairly out of control. We signed him up for Anita's Adult level 1 class, and we have been thrilled with the experience and the results to the point that my wife and I have agreed to bring any dog we have to every class Anita offers. For starters, she uses a clear and easy to follow method of positive reinforcement training. There are no punishments, just learning the proper training games to work on with your dog and learning the exact steps to progressively teach your dog more difficult and complex behaviors. In every class, Anita is very precise while maintaining an impressively positive and fun attitude. You will have fun learning to train your dog and learning new commands with your dog. At the same time, Anita's deep knowledge and experience allow her to quickly come up with novel solutions for a dog that might not respond as well to one training game or another. She gets to know each dog and each handler to better understand not just how to teach certain tasks, but how to address anything that might need attention in the dog's life. In our case, we got some exceptional help on understanding how to handle other family members and their dogs as well as helping to train our dog in more general concepts like patience and restraint. To top it all off, Anita is a wonderful person to be around, and she clearly cares deeply for the dogs and the handlers in her classes. So here is a good way to summarize this place, and I hope anyone from Petco's execs are reading: Your people are your greatest asset. This being true in all businesses, is especially true in this location. It really is a neighborhood store, and it only takes a couple trips here for the staff to know you and your dog. They are also very knowledgeable and actually love animals and take a great interest in their customers. Also they carry more organic / holistic brands then Petsmart AND very important: 5 bucks back on every 100 you spend. Is this awesome? No, but it's better than nothing. Without this crew it would be a very sad place indeed because: Your store....like most Petco's is shabby. On a good day. Same shelves same old paint same old floor it looks like a brightly lit basement. Stop treating this like a cash cow and realize that there is a small community around it who shop here, and keep you profitable. I go to Petco and Petsmart interchangeably. I don't know who the marketing genius was who decided that both stores should have the same color schemes, but for me it makes them even harder to distinguish - get out the color wheel there are plenty of other colors besides red and blue! That said here are the plusses and minuses of shopping Petco: + There seem to be a lot more Petco's around, including one on my way home + The PALS membership club gets you coupons and discounts. Plus if you get 10 bags of food in 12 months you earn a free bag of food + They sell my cat's brand of Eukanuba and in really big bags plus the wet food I buy them too - They don't sell Fat Cat brand toys, these toys are funny and cute and like crack to my cats - Sometimes the sales online are just that online. If you go to the store to get the item and avoid shipping it will cost you more - booo! - The return policy. One day I brought an item to return complete with the invoice it was shipped with, but Petco wouldn't take it. Why? Because they needed the e-mail order confirmation - WTF! They wouldn't even settle for looking at the e-mail I pulled up on my phone forcing me to make a special trip back to the store. - The free bag of food program is tough to qualify for (imo) unless you buy the smallest bags of food possible, which price-wise are not the best deal. Plus those bags must be of the SAME kind of food, not just even the same brand. - There never seems to be more than one register open, which makes for slow lines Bottom line: It's convenient and it has what I need to keep my cats happy read more

Do you think that you are coming into a day spa with Enya playing or are you going to a place where some of the guests stop to take a piss on one of the racks because a previous guest has done the same thing? She's a total animal lover, with cats, turtles, a bearded dragon, etc. She loves pets, is extremely helpful and friendly and always offers my pittie Titan a squeaky toy at a discount so he can rip it up right in front of her. Some of the reviewers are completely correct about the Tobias and Lily mini pin mini chihuaha, mini what have you and their owners being there because of the River North factor. I lived in River North and with an 80 pound pit bull looking like a junk yard ghetto dog, we didn't exactly fit in. But, you just have to politely tell Buffy with her mini pin in the tutu to put her dog back on leash and when she giggles and says "oh she's friendly!" explain that your dog may not be, especially when he's on leash and her 4 pound pooch comes up to bite the ghetto boy's nose. I digress. It's a great petco. The staff have always been helpful, and they really bend over backwards to do whatever they can to assist the patrons. And yes, it's next to Ace which after many years of going out and putting my dog in the car, I have just realized I can bring him in the store. Bonus! This Petco would've gotten multiple stars until yesterday. Unlike PetsMart, they carry many gluten-free dry cat foods, which are best for my urinary tract-challenged boys. I went on 10/16 and saw that Natural Choice had a 'Buy 10, Get 3 Free' sign up for canned food (till 10/17). They have two types of cans, so I got 13 cans of the sale type and 8 of the non-sale type. I mentioned it to the cashier, but he was so busy talking about his weekend plans to me that he didn't give me the discount. (And I was so busy trying to fit the food in my carry-all bag that I forgot to check.) When I realized I didn't get the discount, I called and was told to speak to the manager when I bring the receipt in. I went yesterday and - lo and behold - the cans have all been switched around. It looks like I purchased 9 of the sale items and 12 of the non-sale items, according to my receipt and the placement of the cans on the shelf now; why would I DO that?! I wasted my time and money to go back because of THEIR ineptitude and I still don't get the 3 free cans. Petco Orleans: CHOKE on my $3.15 + tax, you unscrupulous morons! I liked this Petco. Quiet, uncrowded, clean, and super friendly staff. Several people greeted me and offered me assistance and even gave my puppy a little treat (after asking of course). They have a big selection of sweaters, coats, and dog toys as well as some seasonal stuff. They seem to have lots of special events too. PARKING - there is a parking lot, it's off of Illinois street (so turn on the street before the sign, if you go to the Petco sign, you've gone to far.
