I've been a customer for 2 years with 2 dogs. Pros: - Wonderful staff who cares about animals Cons: - Do not provide real solutions when dogs are sick - PRICE! - Availability of appointments I REAAAAAAALLLLLY wanted to love this place because the people who work there are SUPER nice and the care they show to make sure the pets are comfortable is beyond amazing. The treats, the calm and patient approach, cleanliness, processes, etc. It's great. However, when it comes to actually treating problems, and pricing, I have been extremely disappointed. Treating problems For three times now, one of my dogs had to be brought in for extreme diarrhea/vomiting and the bill was close to $800 every single time, but it was never discovered what is causing the issue. After explaining to the vet that I cannot afford to just spend $800 every time by dog is not feeling well, and that I need a long term solution, he kept on reiterating that sometimes they just can't figure out what is wrong, but that it is good that I spent that money because at least they were able to eliminate what is not wrong (nothing was eaten by the dog, no worms, etc). Basically I've spend over $2000 on my dog's diarrhea/vomiting, but the cause was never discovered. Pricing I think the story above says it all, but to give a clear picture of pricing when the dogs are not even sick. The appointments, vaccines, and treatments (Bravecto, and such) are about 20% more expensive than what I've seen elsewhere. As an example, I spent $250.56 fora 6 month supply for Interceptor and 3 month supply for Bravecto for my two dogs. For comparison, for the same items, I was quoted $175.96 elsewhere. That's about 40% less! Another reference: Annual examination is $80 for each dog, while it's $50 in most other places. That's a 60% difference. Availability of appointments Normally no appointments are available whenever I call (unless it's 2 weeks or more in advance), except for urgent appointments, which they charge an extra fee for. read more

I wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care you provided to my dog, Phife, during our recent emergency visit. When I brought him in feeling very stressed and distraught, Dr. Kuchay and the vet tech (whose name I unfortunately did not catch) made both of us feel incredibly comfortable and did their best to ease my anxiety. They came up with a treatment plan and reviewed everything with me prior to treating him. Emergency vet visits can be extremely stressful and expensive, I greatly appreciated their treatment plan explanation and breakdown. Their compassion and professionalism were evident as they continually called to check up on us and were always responsive to my questions after our visit. I was particularly touched by the small, thoughtful gesture of trimming Phife's nails without me even asking. This experience has assured me that West Loop Vet is the right place for us, and I will be forever returning for Phife's care. read more

I recently visited West Loop Vet and had an amazing experience! The team here really makes you feel comfortable and from the way they were talking to me and handling my cat, I could really tell they cared about helping my sick pet. I've been to other clinics and have never had this good of an experience before. The costs are comparable to other vets I've been to and I can say they are worth every penny! They not only explained in detail what they thought the problem was but also provided me options in between to help my cat feel better. Dr Gonsky also informed me next steps based on the next 24 hours with my cat and depending on his reaction to the meds what to expect. I took my dog here since I first rescued her, almost 4 years ago. In the beginning I absolutely loved this vet and then visit after visit I felt like they were taking advantage of me. I had to remind them time after time that my dog does not get the Bordetella shot and yet they continued giving her the shot. I did not feel heard whatsoever. I always felt like they used pushy sales tactics and tried to nickle and dime me. An interaction 4 weeks ago was the last straw. My dog wasn't eating or drinking, stopped having bowel movements, and kept throwing up. I knew right away something was wrong. I called in, explained the situation and requested to see a vet ASAP. Whoever I spoke to was extremely rude and told me they no longer do emergency visits. I continued on by mentioning that I have been coming there for 4 years, but you can't see my dog? If you can't squeeze her in I will no longer be going to West Loop Vet (No, I shouldn't have threatened her. I know my dog isn't the only sick dog, but she set the tone when she first answered the phone). She puts me on a brief hold and asks if I'm available at a later time in the day. I confirmed, and then acts as if she did me a huge favor. The fact that she spoke to me the way she did, she lost my business that second. After that awful interaction, my husband called GoodVets on Jackson to explain what was going on with our dog and they asked us to bring our dog in IMMEDIATELY. Did I mention, IMMEDIATELY! Long story short, my dog needed emergency surgery. To top this review off, I called back to cancel that appointment at West Loop Vet and mentioned we will no longer be going there. Absolutely no care in the world that they lost my dog as a patient. You would think the owner (Dr. Gonsky) would call us to see what exactly happened or ask how my dog's doing or better yet win our business back. But nothing...crickets. I too, used to read all the terrible reviews for West Loop Vet and thought that would never happen to me, BUT IT DID. Do yourself a favor and check out GoodVets, they are the absolute best and the main vet there called us every day my baby was recovering from surgery. read more

They do not push extra services, they recommend only what is needed, and they are just amazing Vets! We can't say enough good things about our experience at West Loop Vet. We've been bringing our rescue pup, Scout, there for four years and continue to do so even after we moved up to the far north side. West Loop isn't convenient for us, but it's worth it for the care they provide and we have never had an issue with parking. Scout has seen a number of different vets at WLVC over the years and they have all been wonderful. The staff is always very friendly and kind. West Loop was recommended to us by a friend of ours after we had a not-great experience at another vet in the city and we've never looked back. It may be a little more expensive, but our experience here definitely makes it worth it for us. read more

When we relocated to the city, we were anxious to find a new go to place for our two dogs, but we ended up truly lucking out with West Loop Veterinary. I do not share reviews often, but this one felt necessary. My four-legged lil boy had a severe, and extremely sudden, emergency and needed immediate (and compassionate) help ASAP. They were able to take him in as not only a new patient but understood this was a severe medical emergency the morning of my call and he was in their care within the next few hours. Dr. Esther and her team were nothing but wonderful and seeing how efficient, and confident, they were while caring for my dog helped ease my anxiety over a very stressful situation. After spending the day in their care and being given the much attention needed by the WLVC staff, my furball is back home and finally getting back to his energetic self. Larry will most certainly be going back for the rest of his time in Chicago and highly recommend you do the same! read more

This place is great and the staff is super friendly until you have a health issue with your dog. Aside from the cost being astronomical, they misdiagnosed our dog twice while refusing to listen to our input or ever follow up with us to see how the dog was doing. We took our dog to another vet in the area that is 1/3 of the price, they got his diagnosis the first time around, and could not have been more helpful. read more

Well, since August 18, 2020, there has been no response from the West Loop Veterinary Care management, save for the response on YELP to appease YELP readers ... no follow up, no contact to resolve the issues, in spite my message to Matthew, the manager. That is proof that the business is not interested in professional services but rather in hit-and-run-with-the-money services. Medical care for animals ought to follow the Veterinarian's Oath, i.e., "an oath veterinarians take to use their skills and knowledge for the benefit of animal health, animal welfare, public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge." WLV's vets may not have taken it? And, given our populated urban environment, evidently sufficient customers will come ---even when they go--- to sustain this business. I understand that there is no need from the WLV perspective to right a wrong. How gravely disappointing This experience, particularly the lack of follow up is what gives gentrification its many negative connotations. You will be happy with having your pet checked, nails clipped, and given anti-anxiety medication for such a visit at WLV where apparently free latte, upscale decor, and artsy thank you notes for pet owners supersede conscientious, informed, and thorough diagnoses and treatment. read more

I highly recommend them! My Siberian Husky had the laparoscopic spay done in May with Dr. David Gonsky and he did a fabulous job! My Husky recovered very well. She doesn't have a scar! I will never forget the kindness, the care, the love with which WLVC treated not only our beloved pug Bogart but us as well. We adopted Bogart ten years ago --- he had been arrested wandering the streets of Camden, NJ by Animal Control -- was sent to a kill shelter, then rescued by a rescue shelter, then adopted by us,. He was our son within moments. Then we moved to Chicago from New Jersey and found West Loop Veterinary Care. We felt like we had won the lottery of vet care. Every single person there, from doctor to vet technician, is so skilled --and so frigging compassionate. That mattered so much to us when we just had to euthanize Bogart. He was not in good shape and was suffering. We needed to give him the gift of peace. The WLCV team, led by Dr. Pingue, could not have been more informative, gentle, and comforting. For them to allow us to leave crying but at peace is a gift they gave us. And throughout Bogarts years long care they WLVC has been nothing but the best. 3/4: If I could give this place a no star I would. I've been here a few times, once over 5 years ago disliking it, and then again recently. I'm so disappointed with this Vet, and how many people in this neighborhood are obsessed. I brought my dog in who was suffering from severe diarrhea and vomiting. They couldn't diagnose what was wrong with her. After several blood tests Friday night, they decided they thought she had some extra rare disease and asked for more tests on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning when I called for the results, and had spent over a thousand dollars they told me the doctor was TOO BUSY TO CALL ME WITH THE RESULTS and tell me how to treat my very sick dog - I should just go to emergency care if I couldn't wait several days. The phone attendant wouldn't even read the chart to me, even though they had the results. These people are crooks. I took my dog to another vet nearby, and the Vet immediately knew that my dog was suffering from chronic pancreatitis, without asking for more tests. All West loop Veterinary Care actually cares about it money - why else would they have to spend so much money on marketing? Stay away from this place, there are better vets that actually care about your dog and aren't over priced. 3/17 update: My appointment was July 24th. I took my pup here for the first time about a month ago during covid. The way they handled the entire situation was professional and reassuring. They were clear with the process, gave me instructions, and did everything in a timely manner. They understood that sending my dog inside without me while he is sick can be stressful for us both and they were so good to him. We take both of our cats to WLVC and we are always super happy with the entire staff. Yesterday we had to take our little black cat there to have his eye removed and it was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do! The emotions were flowing knowing that we were taking away part of his sight. Courtney made sure to give us the tour of where he was going to be and show us around. When we picked him up after the procedure she was there to welcome us and patiently explain his after care and prepare us to see our kitty it a terrible state. She brought him in and we were both having a really hard time with it. She was patient and empathetic and made us feel like she REALLY cared about our whole family. This morning she called to follow up and I still felt like she was genuine in making sure we were all ok. Yes the prices are higher, but they also have state of the art equipment and services. I have never felt like I was paying too much for my cats care there. They also have an awesome loyalty stamp program. read more

Pros: - friendly Cons: - hidden costs and suggesting unnecessary operations - so called "annual" exam that they always try to charge for every visit - incompetent service I visited this hospital for the process of taking my dogs to another country. There were some unpleasant experiences and incompetence I noticed as I went through this process. 1. They wing their health examination process. I paid about $200 for it. I was told everything was fine with my dogs. However, I knew one of my dog had a minor tooth problem. The vet only noticed it when I told her. Also, they incorrectly measured dogs' weights by over 14 pounds, which tells me that they don't perform procedures with professionalism while charging you a lot for it. 2. They already charged me exam fees for our initial visit for getting rabies vaccine. When we visited again 4 weeks later for just blood sampling, they sneakily put this on the bill again. I reasoned and they took it off. They are charging this fee AGAIN for my next visit for the health certificate. What was the initial one for then? Ridiculous. 3. The final bill always includes a thing or two that will significantly increase your totals. E.g., when I called initially, before making appointments, I was told the price of traveling paperwork will be $270. Now, it is $732. To be fair, it includes costs that other parties are requiring. Still, they don't communicate clearly the fees you need to pay eventually. Always expect that you will pay more than what you were told over the phone. 4. Medical plan asked for over $2,000 for potentially pulling out a tooth. You know the story of American hospitals whether it is for humans or for animals. Criminally overpriced. read more

The facility itself is impeccably maintained - always clean and welcoming. There are parking spots just steps outside the front door specifically reserved for appointments. The staff here are very knowledgable, caring, and truly deliver quality service. Juno is selective about who she allows in her inner sphere and can definitely be distant and stubborn. Dr. Labak has the magic touch and immediately won Juno over with her kind demeanor and dog whisperer ways. Juno knew she was in very capable hands. Before bringing our dog home, the WLV team gave us a tour of the office and scheduled time for us to chat with one of the vets, Dr. Emily Yacker, who talked us through all our new dog-parent questions. Since then, Dr. Yacker has been the most amazing, comprehensive, and caring vet for our dog as well as a thoughtful partner to us in his care. She always takes time to fully explain things, answer our questions, and help us get to the bottom of any health concerns. If we ever need to come in for an urgent appt. and cannot get paired with Dr. Yacker, we are confident we are still in great hands with the entire WLV team. We give our whole-hearted two human thumbs up and Barkley's four paws up recommendation for Dr. Yacker and the entire WLV team! Some additional highlights: scheduling is easy, they are fantastic communicators before and after appointments (always call to check in on Barkley after an appt.), submit bills to our pet insurance company right away, and are just an all-around super caring and wonderful team. Ok, so I'll start by saying that the staff at West Loop Vet does care about animals. That's very clear. But a very close second to their love of animals is their love of money. I have never been nickel and dimed so much. They rapidly run through medications and treatments before the doctor even sees your pet (ie "Oh her ear hurts? That'll require X test, we'll go ahead and put in an order for that."). I leave every time feeling out of breath and I don't even have much of a chance to speak. I'll give you another example: I brought my cat in after he had been experiencing some diarrhea. The vet tech rapidly asked about symptoms, then Dr. Larson (who is a very strange person...) came in and told me conflicting info ("He's not dehydrated," then, "Let's give him something for the dehydration.") and the vet tech wrapped up by showing me a $600 bill and asking for payment without letting me really read the invoice. I pointed to a $275 blood test item and asked what that was for. She said, "At this point we can't rule out anything. If it were my cat, I would do it." Which is an unbelievably poor sales tactic - preying on vulnerable pet owners who don't want to look like they're too cheap to pay for their animals' care. I declined that test, gave him the anti-diarrheal meds, and he was fine within a week. Yesterday was the icing on the cake: I brought my dog in for her vaccinations. They stuck her with needles and by the last vaccine she was getting visibly upset - trying to jump off the table and snarling. The vet said, "I suggest giving her anti-anxiety meds and bringing her back in." I said, "We have some CBD treats that we've given her for her anxiety when we moved to a new apartment - we can try that." and the veterinarian just stared at me. Big Pharma is real in the vet industry, too, apparently. The vet left the room and we were left with the vet tech, who was pushing for this anxiety med and to bring her back in ASAP for that last vaccine they couldn't give her. Then she said, "Well she's actually not due for that until September (it's July...) but we figured we'd just get it out of the way. And she needs to come back for her heartworm screen - though I think you're not due for that for another year. You'll probably get an email reminder about it, but we have no idea what we're doing here, so you can just ignore that." read more

I've been with West loop for more than a decade, with three cats and a dog. They are paws down the best. Our dog looks is excited to go in to appointments, and they have helped us out in so many instances with last minute urgent needs or tricky scheduling situations. I have been coming to West Loop vet for 3 years for my dog. The vets and staff are friendly and personable. My dog is always extremely afraid to go in for his checkups, but the staff are always gentle, patient, and thorough. They always answer all my questions too. When my dog was sick a few times, they let me come in right away so they could see him. A few days after we came in and got medication, Dr. Pappas (who examined my dog) called me to follow up and see if he was feeling better. They really go the extra mile here and this is a place I am very comfortable taking my dog, who means the world to me. You can really tell they love animals with so much kindness and compassion. The hours are pretty good, and they are open until 3 pm on Sat which is nice when I can't get there during the week. read more

Pros:friendly staff AND CONS: I was quoted "roughly $200 " and I told her this has happened before and asked why so expensive. She explained that it was about $100 for emergency visit plus the appointment. She then said it would be more if they did a parasite test, I told her I did not need one that my dog has had them many times and this just happens sometimes, when I checked my emailed a receipt they had charged me for one anyway Almost $400 later we left... DOUBLE what I was quoted!!!! I did ask for a nail trim that was $20ish so I thought my bill would be around $220 at max I then called to tell them my dog was throwing up from the meds and they said I could bring her back for another Emergency visit.... they gave her the meds that made her sick and they want to charge me again!!! Sadly, I have to adjust my once 5 star review to a 1 at West Loop Veterinary Care. While their office/reception staff remains top notch, everything else has slipped and there is no consistency here anymore. The turnover rate for Veterinarian's at this location is alarming and is forcing us to consider finding a whole new practice. We have not had one consistent Vet since 2019 when Dr. Tierney left. Every time we make a new appointment, we are told that Vet has left. This has happened THREE times in ONE year. If our dog was 5 years old, this review would not happen. However I now have a 12 1/2 year old Pittie who is starting to have health issues in his old age. As I desperately am trying to maintain and keep him healthy for years and years to come. The care in his age right now is crucial. It is completely unacceptable to be at a practice for over FIVE YEARS and not have one Vet that knows his medical history and can assist with new issues and guide us confidently and accurately. For example: One vet told us their practice could handle the dental work he will need. Another Vet weeks later told us to go to a dental specialist and they wouldn't be able to do the dental care he needs at West Loop. Two completely different answers, same practice. We order our meds through Chewy, and the last conversation I had between West Loop regarding the meds was embarrassing. They had no idea my dog lives off a certain prescription even though it's in his file and they have sold it to us for FIVE years. Is there anyone in management who could reach out to us please and fit us with a Veterinarian at your practice who isn't going to be gone next time we come in? Match us with someone who will care about our Dog as much Dr. Tierney did? We come in multiple times a year and have spent over $30,000 alone in the past 5 years here on medicine and care. read more

Extremely disappointed that after my dog had a dental cleaning on 8/21/20, she was not offered her 3 year rabies shot. Instead, I received a reminder less than 2 months later that her rabies was due so I brought her in on 10/12/20 for her shot. Imagine how shocked I was when they gave me the bill for $200 + for her vaccine saying that a full exam was required when administering the shot. This was LESS THAN 2 months later after paying $1000+ for her dental procedure/labs/xrays/ etc. Deplorable and obviously a very sneaky way to make sure they got more money. Apparently, an exam is required when administering a rabies vaccine...ok...then why wasn't that offered in August? I was told it just wasn't time yet for her rabies vaccine in August. A bunch a BS. They absolutely could have given her that vaccine in August. Very nice staff and really liked the vets but will not go back. read more
