I was a client here for 5.5 yrs and had entrusted care for my pets there over this time. I called last week to have my cat seen and I was told there were no available appointments. So I informed staff I would have to take the cat elsewhere. I called back for a follow up with my cat this week but was told they would not see me because I had told them I was going elsewhere. I was then transferred to the Vet and during the conversation the call ended. I called back and she made some unexpected comments and I was told not to call back. I did not expect to be treated in this manner. I gave a one star because I couldn't give them a 0 star. For being a judgment-free environment I certainly felt very much judged unfairly!! read more

We have a Shiba Inue less than a year old that we got from a rescue. Getting him an intake and general checkup appointment was super easy and we were able to schedule something within the week. The staff is stellar and that's what makes this location so great. Reception is quick with communication and clear on what is needed for the appointment. The tech staff is also patient and kind in hearing our issues and prepping our pup for the vet. Lafave herself is all of the above and so great at hearing us out on all our worries and questions. She really listens and responds to everything we wanted to talk about with our boy. I trust her judgment and recommendations. The building itself is clean, modern and overall a good atmosphere. They do have a small parking lot. I would recommend this location for anyone with pets in the area. I'm truly glad we have quality pet care in Bridgeport with Urban. read more

I cannot say enough about Urban PetRX. Dr. Lafave is truly amazing. She always takes the time to listen, and takes extra time to explain the situation. She also has called me to check up on my pets. I have 13 cats and trust them all with her care. Its hard to find a vet that has compassion. I truly have found one. There is only one question for me when looking for a vet "Do they have my pets best interest to heart?" When it comes to Urban PetRx, the answer is "Yes". The staff is friendly, kind and seem to really care about my cats. Even when they are busy, they seem to always have the time to talk to me about a concern that I have, and will fit me in for an appointment if needed. For that I am truly grateful. I'm really disappointed that I had such a terrible experience here considering the other reviews were so positive. I would give them 1.5 stars rounded up to 2 and those are just because the front desk staff and vet tech were amazing, and the facilities are nice. Unfortunately my experience with the vet herself was very negative. She stood over me the whole time and had a really condescending attitude and acted like every question I asked was stupid. The ironic thing is that their paperwork makes a point of saying they are a judgment-free vet and when I saw that before the appointment I remember thinking it was kind of odd and that when choosing a vet, worrying about that would never have crossed my mind. Well, after the condescending treatment I received here, it will definitely be at the top of my mind. Another thing that really bothered me is that she refused to give an opinion on things. Specifically, she recommended several different treatments for one condition and I asked if one would be more likely to help than another or for a general idea of the likelihood of these (expensive) treatments being beneficial (for example- a lot of dogs see some improvement on this, this works really well for some but others doesn't help at all, etc.) and she just flat out refused to say even when I assured her I knew nothing was guaranteed, I just wanted a general idea. It's not very good practice to recommend a treatment and say you have literally zero idea if it will help. I also realized after the fact that she didn't discuss whether their were any risks to the treatments she recommended or side effects to watch out for. They also didn't ask to schedule a follow up visit when I checked out and I realized afterwards when I looked at the papers that--per their own recommendation--he needed to return in 3 days, and then when I called to make the appointment they acted like they were doing me a huge favor getting me in? Lastly, when I looked at his discharge papers they had his breed and age completely wrong. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I definitely won't be returning. I know everyone has off days and perhaps that is what happened here but my experience was really disappointing. read more

I recently took my cat here for his annual vaccines and they were thorough to look through his history, went over any concerns with me and made sure my cat was comfortable. The facility is extremely clean and doesn't smell like animals at all (which is a first for me). Added bonus: each room has an Alexa that you can connect to and play your own music if you'd like. I saw that a new vet opened up in Bridgeport (with parking!) and of course had to check it out. My cat was due for his annual/shots and the receptionist on the phone gave me a quote so I knew what I was paying ahead of time (pricing was reasonable in comparison to other vets I've been to). Along with welcome forms, they emailed COVID procedures so I knew to call when I got to the parking lot for further instructions. Dr. LaFave and the vet tech were very professional and answered all the questions I had. The annual + shots were quick and I was out within 15 mins. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was so quick because there was no bloodwork done. Previously, I've only done vet annuals at Banfield and it's a whole process where you leave your pet all day and they collect multiple samples - glad I didn't have to leave my poor kitty trapped in his carrier all day but I immediately called the clinic back to see if my cat needed that for his annual and if we missed it. The receptionist let me know that bloodwork is separate and they only schedule it upon request. I asked what the vet's recommendation was on bloodwork and she let me know that my cat is considered young (7 years old) and doesn't require bloodwork for his annual if everything else during the annual was fine. What prompted me to write a review though, was that Dr. LaFave heard that I was concerned and called me back after I had spoke to the receptionist to clarify any misunderstandings or concerns I still had. She said for senior cats older than 10 years old, she would recommend bloodwork but not for a healthy young cat that has no weight, eating, or pooping issues of any kind. She let me know that if it would give me peace of mind, we can certainly do bloodwork but that she didn't bring it up because he didn't need it. I appreciate that she wasn't trying to schedule tests that my cat didn't need just to make money. I love when people take the time to answer your questions and I felt much better after her callback. It shows that she really cares and I knew that I made the right decision going to Urban PetRx. read more

Everyone was great and super professional. I had to unfortunately take my dog to be euthanized due to his age. A very sad moment for my family and I as he had been with us for almost 16 years. They took us through every step of the process and reassured us he would be under no pain. They gave us the time necessary to say our goodbyes, went over cremation services thoroughly and offered their condolences. A few days later we received a beautiful card from the staff again offering their condolences with a personal note from each. We received the urn today and could not be happier with it. We are glad to have him back home with us and would like to thank Urban PetRX for everything they did. read more

I was so pleased that this vet opened up near my home. They were super professional, kind, accomodating, and caring with my cat, Guapo. He got his necessary shots and they even gave me a sample to help with his upper respiratory problems. Guapo has extra thumbs on his front paws, and they trimmed his nails as they can be problematic. I'm very pleased with this place. I hope I don't have to go back until next year for shots. If I do, I will do so with confidence. Highly recommended. read more

Dr. LaFave and her staff is wonderful! I had taken my dogs to Dr. LaFave at her previous clinic. She managed the autoimmune disease my Fiona had perfectly. She was there when the time came to put my older dogs (16 year old, Fiona and a year later my 17 year old, Hamlet) to sleep. I'm pretty sure I could see tears in her eyes through my tears... When she left that practice I was devastated! I didn't know where she went. I continued at that practice but was never really happy with them. And, then I found Dr. LaFave! Needless to say, I am now taking my 2 dogs and 2 cats to her once again. The clinic is spotless and the staff is so gracious and accommodating. I appreciate the fact that Dr. LaFave doesn't "nickel and dime" you to death. When I had to bring one of my dogs in for a booster, the vet tech gave the booster and therefore, the charge was less. Needless to say, I am thrilled I finally found her again and will continue to take my pets to her for as long as I am around! read more

Dr. LaFave did my french bulldog's stenotic nares surgery and neutering together. I was super nervous because these procedures are a bit more danger for frenchies due to the anesthesia and their breathing issues. The staff had stated that the vet had done multiple surgeries in frenchies which eased my nerves. Lemme tell ya... She did a PHENOMENAL job. Both surgeries were completely successful. His nose job (lol) really did help with his breathing issues & his nose looks great! It did take almost two months for the stitches to fall off, like the vet had said, but I had no issues during that time period. After about a week or two, my dog's neutering stitches were basically healed. I did, however, follow all the instructions the vet gave me. What I really appreciated was that Dr. LaFave personally called me the day after the surgery to check up on my dog. Overall, they do an amazing job as far as regular check ups, surgeries, and customer service. They truly do care about your pet and the pet owner concerns. read more

I can't even tell you whether this place is good for my pet as I couldn't believe the intake process. READ EVERYTHING THEY GIVE YOU TO SIGN. What a negative experience! They give you about a dozen pages to read over, initial and sign before they will treat your pet. Basically it says, no matter what happens, everything is your fault, nothing is our fault. Nowhere does it say we will do this for your pet, or you can expect that. In addition, one of the items says they have to treat your pet without you in the room -- and then they expect you to take full responsibility for what happens in that room? This is not the way to start a business relationship. I'll travel farther to go to my old vet. read more

The BEST vet in the city of Chicago. Dr. LaFave has cared for both of my boys for about a decade. Prior to finding Dr. LaFave I had good vets, but when you find a honest brilliant caring vet you stick with them. It is also not easy to find a vet that understands the unique needs of German Shepherds. My guy was abused when he was a pup by a vet and he was cool as cucumber with Dr. LaFave. More importantly than me approving of her was my boy truly loved her from the get go. My dog was due for his yearly shots and this office just opened and is just a few blocks from where we live and seemed like a good time to switch vets. I filled out my registration forms over email ahead of time so there was less back and forth with physical materials in light of coronavirus. Dr. June LeFavre and all staff were nice, helpful and accommodating. They told me exactly what was happening came back with a quote before proceeding with shots so there was no surprises when the bill came. As for prices they were reasonable and comparable, if not a bit cheaper than some other vets I have seen in Chicago. read more

Dr. LaFave and her team have been helping our dog navigate his condition. He has mast cell tumors on his skin, several in places from which they cannot be safely removed. He's otherwise healthy and energetic but his illness is likely to progress to his internal organs at some point. We tried chemo with a previous veterinary oncologist and quickly realized it wasn't worth affecting his life quality with harsh treatments. With Dr. LaFave we are taking a more holistic approach designed to slow the progress of his condition as much as possible, which is really the best we can do for him. She's been very helpful in discussing best dietary practices, supplementation, and all strategies to nourish his body and immune system and depriving nutrients from his cancer cells. We have been very satisfied with her and her team and our dog seems to love them when we take him there for check ups! read more

Dr. LaFave and the staff here are wonderful. When they opened up, my senior dog was near the end of her life. I brought her in for a check-up appointment, knowing that she already had some health issues. At every visit, I was offered a few options for testing or treatment, but never felt any pressure at all. They were really up front about cost, too. Other vets have pushed tests or treatments for my senior dog that were expensive and seemed unnecessary given her life expectancy; my experience here was absolutely different and completely positive. There was absolutely no up-sell or guilt at Urban PetRx. Dr. LaFave and Melissa in particular were very supportive and kind in every visit when I struggled with how to help my dog at the end of her life. They clearly know how hard it is to have a very old dog and how sad it is to make decisions at the end of her life. Urban PetRx is a welcome addition to S Morgan St and fills a big void left for pet care no longer available at Bridgeport Veterinary Services, conveniently up the block...in a remarkable transformation of Emil's Auto Body property, another iconic neighborhood business, into a first-rate health facility for our pets. I took my two-year old dog for his annual check up, need for tic-flea prevention, and remedy for what was identified as skin allergy which itched and which my dog scratched especially around his snout and eyes. Dr LaFave was thorough and took plenty of time with me not only to listen to circumstances, but also explain her observations and offer remedy options. She obviously luvs her work with pets and their owner. He got a shot and sent home with oral antibiotics. Within 24 hours, my dog was itching much less and the inflammation and scabbing around his eyes and snout were noticeably subsided. Now three days later, he's almost back to normal with his healthy appetite, tons of energy, and good poops!! Great support staff, reasonable rates, and parking can't be undervalued!! read more

I'm so thankful to finally have such a wonderful vet in Bridgeport! I have been taking my cats to Wheaton for vet care because I haven't liked any vets we've seen in Chicago but we are now switching over. I took my boy in for a visit about a week after the office opened and the Dr was so kind, caring and thorough despite having to basically do the entire visit with me over the phone due to covid-19.
