When we decided to have a pool built in our backyard, we had discussions with and received quotes from multiple builders (and you should too). Peter was the most transparent and down to earth of them all. He did not offer us the cheapest quote but he also didn't try to gloss over the cost of the project, he explained every step and seemed to really know his stuff and he's local, so we chose him. Peter jumped started the process right away for a small pool, spa, deck and even a new retaining wall to expand our backyard. I was very nervous about starting such a large project but Peter handled every detail, including our city's painful permit process and listened to all of our concerns...and we had a ton. The full process did take longer than expected due to delays in permits plus this was done in 2020, need I say more. Our new backyard is now so inviting! ***FINAL REVIEW*** PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS REVIEW COMPLETELY!!! Werth Builders has done EXACTLY what they said they would do and it is what we agreed to get done over the course. But I am going to use Yelp for which it is intended a true review and experience. I am not going to take away from the workmanship of the pool and deck with the exception of the pool bottom. I had to re-drain the pool and was disappointed to never have heard from Peter to follow up on his subcontractors and check on the bottom. I now have to complete my own repair on the botched acid wash job from excess acid not being rinsed away and the black bottom is less than expected....but this final is more about their process and communication and Peter's lack of. I want to liken my experience with Peter and his business as successful but like going to the dentist.... you will get fixed, AND it will be better, but the road to getting there runs the risk of pain depending on how you get numbed up. The final product is beautiful except the bottom (stay away from dark bottom and quartz), however iron out the details in front of you! Get a scope of work even if generalized (unless it doesn't matter and you just want to jump in when it is hot) There are all kinds of choices for equipment, pool plastering and trades involved. I was not a fan of Alex over the course... he started strong but the mess and questions that were left in his wake daily got to be unbearable and unsanitary .... i will simply leave it at that. Memo and his team were the fixers... which they did and were clean and respectful of the property. The communication was less than desirable myself and Peter had a few less than pleasurable conversations but the professionalism bled through when needed and we were able to push through. Too many people that were involved that didn't have the authority to make the needed correct decisions or provide the expectation... Peter is the business and has a responsibility to update the owners of these projects as things change and spot check his guys. As a homeowner/customer on a project this size and (at least to me a considerable sum of money) i want to know what is next and what i am to expect, so if it is not as expected we can address and move forward. If the details are ironed out and you know exactly what you are getting he is your man- if not plan on being involved and asking a lot of questions. Things that can bite if not addressed: This is with any contractor so not strictly a Werth issue... BTW Werth did not gouge me for this, it was like the dentist hitting a nerve then realizing he needs to numb that spot. work out deck colors, textures and finishes and make sure they are qualified to do what you are asking (remember that concrete is VERY different than what you see on your ipad this in light of my concrete background and everyone needs to know) make sure the final set of drawings is what gets used and get detailed drawings of your vision who is paying for pool fence? who is paying for permits? who is paying for the pool start up? who is paying for equipment programming if any? what additional alarms are needed and when? get setup with a local pool supplier and have water tested prior to accepting your pool from your contractor I want to thank Peter but believe that there have been takeaways for everybody from this project. Would I recommend Peter for another job? Yes with the details clear ***START OF ORIGINAL REVIEW*** This is going to be a diary review. For the next 120 days we will be in a relationship with Peter and so far the intro, follow up and flexibility has been 5 star... as we progress the ratings will be based on the phase of the job at that time! My suggestion is to let our research be your gain! We interviewed quite a few contractors to do our backyard and can say Peter was very competitively priced and was an amazing partner through the entire process. Our project included removing a large area of grass and some concrete and replacing it with a fire pit, seating wall, bbq area with a bar and a patio cover. Peter also had the idea to add a planter wall, which we had not thought of and he was right...it looks amazing. At first I was skeptical because I like to see line item details, blue prints and have it all tie together. Peter stated he could provide those but it would take some time and add additional costs. He stated if I were to trust him we would see he will deliver exactly what we want on time and on budget. Well, we decided to trust him and are so glad we did. We did not pay a dime over what was quoted, the project was completed early and we are extremely happy with the final outcome. We met with Peter of 4th of July weekend on a Saturday morning. Within an hour after that meeting to our surprise Peter and Alex returned. Peter wanted us to meet Alex as he is the foreman of the team and would be the one we would see daily if we decided to move forward. Alex and Peter took us to the backyard, walked through what we had discussed and drew some painted lines around to help us visualize it. We were sold and signed up. (We had done a lot of research prior so we knew the price he had offered was competitive and we had not met anyone who worked as quickly as this) The next day, a Sunday on a holiday weekend, Alex and team showed up in the morning and by noon they had our backyard demo completed and were ready to start building it back up after the holiday. We were very clear we didnt want to lose the whole summer with no backyard and the agreement was they would be done in no more than 4 weeks. We have had a lot of contracting work done on our house and my wife was not very happy with a lot of their attitudes towards her if she were to ask questions or ask to make a change. Unfortunately we have found you dont know you want a change until you see things being built!! It is impossible to understand exactly what things will look like..in all other cases any time she wanted something changed there was a corresponding charge. NOT with Peter and Alex. The awesome part of working with them is they partner with you!! They actually asked for her opinion on things before they do something and if there needed to be a change...they made it...NO CHARGE! This included our decision to shorten the patio roof area and enlarge the BBQ space which I was certain would have cost extra...but nope...they just made the change and moved on... I cant say enough about Alex as the foreman. He and his team were on time, hard working, polite and always went the extra mile. They did little things I would have never expected such as took out and brought in our trash cans at the end of the day, spent time hand watering our front yard because the sprinklers had to be disconnected as they did work in the backyard and at the end of every day they would sweep, hose things down and kept our yard orderly during the entire process. I could keep going but I think you can get the picture. The last thing I will emphasize is the job was completed by the end of July...beating the agreed upon time! Let's start with the new pool...it's amazing! In every way! When my husband and I look at it, we can't believe how beautiful it is, and our kids don't want to get out! It was finished last month, and now it's late November and we still go in it every weekend. I love that we can stay home during the weekend and just hang by and in the pool! The project was a remodel. The original pool was built in the 60's and was very deep and very long. No heater and all old equipment and plumbing. We had been planning on remodeling it, but once an expensive piece of equipment broke we decided it was time. I got 5 quotes from pool contractors in Orange County. 1 quote was low, 1 was high, and the others were in the middle. Along with price, we were also looking at the contractor's work, attitude, and practices. We liked Peter Werth from the get-go. The pool is finished, and is generally OK. But working with this company was a nightmare. They started the project without getting city permits, and we received a "stop work" notification from the city. It took another 6 weeks before work was resumed. Throughout the process we heard countless complaints about how our city (Rancho Palos Verdes) was making things so difficult, despite an original claim that Werth Builders worked in RPV all the time, and was familiar with the requirements. All together, it took a full year for the project--a pool renovation with the addition of a spa--to be completed. Much of the delay was due to the lack of communication from Werth Builders. We were not aware of many of the fencing requirements until the city inspector explained them to us--these are standard requirements, why wouldn't the pool contractor let us know about them? If we had known earlier, we would have made sure the proper fences were in place for the inspection. As far as the finished product--the colored concrete around the pool is blotchy, and the computer interface that is supposed to use an app to control the lights, heating, and pump simply doesn't work at all. We have not attempted to have Werth Builders remedy these problems because we do not want to have any contact with them ever again. There were many other issues along the way, as well as a fair amount of belligerence and disrespect from the contractor, that made this a thoroughly miserable experience. read more

We had recently remodeled the house itself, but had an old dated pool that needed to be redone, along with the pool deck and driveway. Right from the start, Peter had a great vision that helped us transform our backyard. He had great recommendations as far as a layout and helped with drainage issues we had. As with any huge home improvement project, there were some hiccups. Peter and his project manager, Edgar (who was great) always kept us in the loop and ultimately delivered on his promise to get us what we wanted. You can definitely tell that Peter takes pride on the job getting done correctly. He threw in a lot of drains in our backyard and a couple of electrical outlets. He also made sure that all of residual damage that comes construction was taken care of. Another thing you could tell is that Peter really isn't in the business to nickel and dime you and really just wants to make you happy. The job was done way faster than I had initially thought. It's been a little over a month since our pool was built by Peter and we love it so much, especially during these time of the pandemic. Peter was great. I had changed my mind shortly after signing the contract to not have a concrete top for my built in BBQ and went with another contractor for a granite countertop. Peter was great and finished the surface perfectly for the granite installer and instead threw in finishing the base of my spa with matching rock. It was more than a fair trade and Peter's crew were extremely professional and left my backyard spotless! The BBQ is amazing. The spa is now perfect. He also fixed a major problem that System Pavers left ... I had contracted with System Pavers for a fire pit with a matching rock finish (same as on the spa), but they were only provided a stucco finish though I contracted for rock. It was horrible. But Peter was able to finish the fire pit and it looks amazing. Will post photos as soon as I get a chance to take some. PS Werth builders is so good, when I build up funds, I'll have them redo my front yard. read more

Let me start by saying that everyone I spoke to before we decided on a new pool had nothing but negative things to say about their experiences. We went into this prepared for the worst... dust, filth, poor communication, false timelines etc. I have to say our experience was THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE! When I first met Peter (the company owner) I immediately got a good, honest vibe from him. He was very upfront and explained to me EVERYTHING I needed to know with zero expectation of me hiring him for the job. He gave me a very reasonable price for a large scope of work (In my eyes). He broke down the whole process to me, and walked me through it week by week. He was very attentive to my questions and concerns and always either answered my phone calls or promptly returned any missed calls. His guys that work for him were always so respectful to me and my family. Sweet to my kids, and even would take my trash out for me. They were good to my dogs, always cleaned up after themselves, and made things very clear before and when any changes were happening with the project. They even fixed a sprinkler for me! Peter went above and beyond for us. Throwing in extra drains and other pluses here and there just to make sure he completed the project to the best of his ability. I feel very fortunate to have come across Werth Builders for the job. We now have a beautiful pool and back yard, and happy kids and dogs! Oh, and WE ARE THRILLED as well. We screwed up pouring concrete counters outside and called Pete to come to the rescue. Luckily he was a me to squeeze us in and fix it. His crew was great again. They were careful with our patio and cleaned up after themselves. They worked super hard and efficiently.
