This is quite frustrating. The front desk staff is friendly, however it seems that there are many issues causing everyone to wait quite some time. Today I received a text that I had "scheduled" a payment for $421 that was going to post to my debit card in 6 days. When I called their office they claimed my insurance is refusing to cover the urine culture and claimed that when I signed the paperwork at the time of the visit I "authorized" them to charge my card for whatever they want. I don't recall signing any such paperwork beyond authorizing the initial copay. I was able to cancel this charge but it feels sneaky that this was not disclosed to me at the time of my visit- I would have waited and seen my GP who doesn't gouge me for lab work and doesn't have sneaky billing practices. I regret going here and I don't want others to make the same mistake. Furthermore I called my insurance today and was informed that they ran a bunch of unnecessary tests which ran up my bill. I knew exactly what was wrong because it's a chronic issue, and only needed a standard urine culture. Why as $800 worth of tests run without my consent for a standard UTI visit? I've been in this situation countless times before and was never taken advantage of financially this way by an Urgent Care before.

In the process of changing to a totally different network outside of UIC. This specific location…read moreis a total mess. Ive been going back and fourth to the doctors more recebtly in the last few weeks for myself and my daughter. Their comminication is non-existent. Last week I had an appointment with Dr Rios. after waiting there 1 hour a nurse comes out asking for people to raise their hands who are currently waiting to be seen by Dr Rios. Mind you about 4 other ppl besides myself raised their hand. The nurse then goes on to say well she is running late and will be here soon, she currently has 2 patients in the back inside the rooms waiting and you all are after that. My appointment was for 9:45am. So you neglected to make this announcement earlier, thus giving patients the option to decide if they wanted to wait or reschedule. I came back 2 days later for an appointment with Dr Alvarez, she sent me to Urgent care, gave me the wrong address and hours. I got there at 10am and urgent care didnt open until 11:15am. One small area to sit in that seats 4. So I had to stand on a fractured foot all that time, while another gentleman had a bad back was slumped over trying to stand in excrutiating pain. On top of that I was told Dr Alvarez should have let me know I didnt have to be seen by Urgent care staff I was supppsed to go to radiology which didn't open until noon. So that was another wait. After being seen in radiology I went back to uic back of the yards milesquare to obtain my Xray results since radiology stated that it only takes 2 hours for the doctors there to see the results in the system. Well Dr Alvarez informed me that the results still werent in. I was told to make an appointment with another doctor to follow up. Mind you it made no sense as she was the one I initially seen for this issue. I come back 2 days later can't remember the name of the doctor I seen this time but she told me she didnt know why Dr Alvarez didnt schedule me with her because she doesnt know me or the issue and she should have been the one to follow up with me. They gave me a referral to podiatry which was not cocered under my bcbsil hmo insurance trying to keep me within uic when I told them I had a podiatrist I wanted to be seen at that I verified accepts my insurance. All in all no one communicated or did their job to provide clarity to one another or me the patient. Today I took my daughter in for her shots. I talked to a nurse on the phone over the Weekend on Saturday who told me I needed to say I was there for the lab area. Sit there 40 minutes only to find out that no I needed to make a nurse visit. They redirect me and put me in for a nurse visit. After 2.5 hours of waiting I was finally seen for my daughter to get 5 shots which took all of 5 minutes to do. All of this couldve been avoided had they given her the shots back in March when I was there for her appointment and clearly asked the nurse wasnt she supposed to receive an mmr shot, varicella and pneumonia shot. I was told no she only needs to have her blood lead screening. Again they told me the wrong information and my daughyer pcp had the orders in since that time for my daughters shots. The whole system at UIC is outdated, out of touch and unprofessional. We wont even go into the blood on the floor in my daughters exam room in which I brung to the nurses attention and she didn't even acknowledge me or the problem.
