Very bad customer service and care. Not responsive to patients. I was ignored and dismissed.

Maria Reyes and her team are incredible. I had a review from 9 years ago and felt the need to…read moreupdate it. She genuinely cares about her patients and is patient and understanding. Both she and Dr Goldfarb used to work in the same women's practice as Janet Cudahy. When Janet retired, the two of them moved over to work at rush. Both are incredible internist doctors and wonderful humans.

SUMMARY: If you're looking for a Primary Care Physician in Chicago, you really can't do better than…read moreDr. Reyes. TLDR: Yelp says that 5 stars means, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" and in this case, I could not agree more. The office itself is great. The staff are nice and seem pretty organized, and I book my appointments online without issue. I am also usually able to get a spot within a reasonable period of time (not 6-8 weeks out like so many Chicago doctors). However, the real reason for the 5th star is Dr. Reyes. Dr. Reyes has the best bedside manner of any doctor I've ever seen. She actually takes the time to listen to your symptoms, concerns, and history. Dr. Reyes also seems to genuinely care about my health and well-being as much as I do, acting sympathetic toward even seemingly minor complaints. Miraculously, she is able to give this much attention to her patients and STILL her office runs on time. I don't know how she does it--I've never waited more than 5 minutes for an appointment. I first saw Dr. Reyes in January 2014 when she was with the Advocate group. I was disappointed when I called later for another appointment and they told me she was no longer there. The staff had no information on where she was practicing or how to contact. I was forced to try other PCPs, and it was only when I needed a check-up in 2017 that I finally found Dr. Reyes again. I was thrilled and relieved (and clearly, my positive memories of her held up). If there were ever a doctor worth tracking down, it's Maria Reyes!

I was really pleased with how easy it was to set up an appointment on the app. I uploaded my insurance information on the app and presented it again to the receptionist when I arrived for my appointment. I saw the doctor and was pleased with my care. However, I needed a prior authorization for a prescription and everything went downhill. Long story short, I contacted One Medical three times by app (as instructed) to request the PA. The app has read receipts, so the staff saw my request. I never received a response. A week before I was going to be out of my medication, I was finally able to get in contact with a customer service rep at their corporate office. She was very apologetic about the issue and had the office manager reach out to me. The office manager told me they didn't take my insurance and that they would not do the PA. I felt like the office manager was blaming me for the issue. However, my insurance company assigned One Medical to me, said One Medical was a participating office when I called, and had them listed online as in network, so I didn't appreciate the insinuation that I did not do my due diligence. One Medical had multiple opportunities to let me know that they did not accept my insurance, but chose to ghost me until I reached out to corporate. I was left without care and with an empty prescription. It was difficult to find a new provider on such short notice, so I had to go without my medication. Had One Medical paid attention when I booked my appointment, showed my insurance card to the receptionist, or during the 3 times I reached out about my PA, I could have started the search earlier and found a new doctor. One Medical is careless at best and negligent at worst. With so many other options in Chicago, I could not recommend One Medical in good faith.

The receptionist then said that the lab wouldn't open until 1:45pm. Not sure why it differed from what is listed on their website but I said ok since no one was in front of me. 2pm came and I still wasn't called so I left because I had to get back to work. Total waste of time, really glad I spend $200 a year for this superb service.

After a week of coughing and sneezing I called Dr Suh's office prepared to beg for an appointment that day. It turned out I didn't need to do much begging...there were able to fit me in with their Physician Assistant an hr later. Hurray! I don't take pleasure in visiting any dr, but this office is the exception. Everyone (and seriously everyone) is sooo nice! Friendly receptionist, super sweet nurse and Sharon the Physician Assistant was wonderful as well! I didn't feel rushed at all because Sharon, who sounds eerily similar to Ellen Page from Juno, spent a good amount of time chatting with me how I was feeling. After a blood test and confirming I was full of mucus (lovely, I know) she prescribed a z-pack to make me all better. Oh, how I love antibiotics. I left without even seeing Dr Suh, yet it was another 5 star experience!

tl;dr: Dr. Suh is the best doctor I've ever had, hands down. And if you have trouble with contact,…read moreuse MyChart (mychart[dot]nm[dot]org). Dr. Suh is attentive, simultaneously both friendly and professional, doesn't rush you out the door, asks the right questions (she doesn't wait for YOU to mention that weird mole or why you've been refilling your xanax more frequently or whatever...), she's good at sensing/reading that there's something you want to ask but about which you might be afraid or embarrassed (I got over that long ago, but was a big help when I started seeing her about 9 years ago), and if you have test results, follows up with a phone call even if they're normal. And here's a big one - she treats you with respect. I've seen a few doctors in Chicago who have treated me like a child (one who did that recently was almost certainly younger than me) or an idiot (I'd like to think I'm not - I read a ton about medicine and science in general out of sheer curiosity, have a background in chemistry, and come off as well-spoken and intelligent [so I've been told]). I've seen a lot of reviews here complaining about the office staff, perhaps at the old location on Washington. They weren't without flaws, but I've seen MUCH worse (*ahem*women'shealthconsulting*ahem*). I think there might be a completely new staff at the Delano location, but I'm not sure; I've only had one visit there. The one complaint I have from my only visit to the new office is that, although I was quite early & Dr. Suh was running a little behind, they didn't offer to draw blood or get a urine sample while I was waiting (it was an annual exam - they ALWAYS do blood & urine). I probably could have asked though, or maybe there's a new protocol or something. Not the end of the world, for sure. If you have trouble getting in touch due to the Northwestern bureaucracy, I'd highly suggest using the MyChart portal to send messages to Dr. Suh, schedule appointments, ask for refills, etc. It really does work, I've never had a problem with it at all. Sadly, I'm moving out of state in about 6 or 8 months, so unless I get sick between now and then (fingers crossed I stay healthy this winter!), my most recent visit with her will be my last.
