Dr Konstantelos is thee best doctor in the whole world. He doesn't just throw pills at you and say "see ya". He is so intelligent he remembers details about your life in congruency with your care plan. He always has a plan and goals and back ups. The woman on the phone spent five minutes or so going through my insurance and taking all of my personal information. I was then informed that the doctors first available appointment is in February 2021. I guess I'll never know if he is as great as everyone here says. I am updating my review for Dr. Konstantelos with real reluctance. There are many admirable things about Dr. Konstantelos and his practice: he is obviously quite knowledgeable and competent, he is usually extremely punctual, he is incredibly quick and reliable in responding to messages I leave for him on Northwestern's MyChart system, he's exceptionally accommodating with finding space for an appointment if I have a serious health issue. So I am genuinely sad to amend my initial review of him. As with all doctors these days, it seems, Dr. Konstantelos is always in a rush. In a typical appointment, he dashes in and immediately sits down in front of a computer. Almost at once, he begins typing. His examinations are quick affairs. I have taken to audio recording my appointments because he talks so fast that I often feel as though I can't keep up. Like I said, I suspect Northwestern Medicine is responsible for the frantic pace of appointments. My guess is that Dr. Konstantelos would look up from the computer and take a moment to chat if he wasn't under so much pressure to see patients on a schedule. My main concern, however, is a little complicated, and requires a bit of explaining. I have had an emotional and complicated relationship with food/eating for decades, involving yoyo dieting, emotional eating, etc. It is an issue that is rooted in trauma. I am getting a good amount of help for it, but will, in all likelihood, have to negotiate with it, for better or worse, for the rest of my life. I absolutely appreciate that there are a host of adverse health outcomes that come from yoyo dieting, obesity, etc. Heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea...the list is long and serious. However, I also know, from decades of experience, that behavior modification that is driven by shaming and fear of being criticized by others DOES NOT WORK for me. In my experience with Dr. Konstantelos, there has, literally, never been an appointment where he hasn't commented on my weight, be it in passing that I look like I've lost weight and "look like a model" (which he absolutely means to be kind, but isn't at all appropriate), or, much more concerningly, he has lectured me--sometimes in a way that is deeply upsetting and shaming--about how I am killing myself with my weight issues. I am not stupid or lazy, but this has been implied in his tone and approach in these conversations. He has demanded to know what I eat on an average day, gone so far as to tell me exactly what I should be eating for breakfast and lunch, and told about how big a serving of protein, vegetables, grains, etc. looks on a plate. Dr. K has mentioned that his father has a complicated relationship with food, and that it's been exasperating for him, so my guess is that the way he communicates with me is informed by his own upset and frustration. It has gotten to the point where I have chosen not to pursue treatment for legitimate health problems because I am so fearful of his lecturing. And I know, for a fact, of several other patients of his who are in the same boat. It is with a heavy heart that I've begun the process of looking for another GP. If you struggle with issues of eating/body weight--a huge percentage of America certainly does--you may want to look for another GP. Behavior modification isn't something that happens in a straight line upwards, contrary to the things that garbage tv like "The Biggest Loser" suggest. read more

I wound up seeing Dr. K. on accident one day when I had a terrible sore throat and my existing PCP (Dr. Boholst) was out of the office. Wow - what a stroke of good luck that was in the end. First off - I've always hated doctors. They make me nervous, hate the smell of doctor's offices, etc. (you name it). I have never felt so comfortable speaking to a doctor in all of my life as with this guy. So much in fact that I switched to him as my PCP and have never looked back. He keeps eye contact, writes down everything that comes out of your mouth and gives you plenty of follow up instructions as you depart the office. I never feel rushed in an appointment and wind up getting to "check in" on any issue I'm having with my body without feeling as if I'm wasting his time. He remembers minute details about my medical history and personal life as well. As a gay man, I can talk openly to him about dating, LGBT related items and he has a great sense of humor (sidebar - any LGBT person should see him or Boholst at NMPG -amazing guys). As a matter of fact, we both broke out into a chorus of "It's Raining Men" while talking about dating one time...you don't get that anywhere else. When it came to actual medical issues, he's totally on top of his game. I had blood work results back the next day, referrals to COMPETENT specialists at NMH, and best of all he will personally badger any colleague who is prolonging getting me test results. This guy's on your side from the beginning and I cannot speak highly enough of him. Send all your friends to him - definitely one of a kind. read more

This time of year there are tons of people way more sick than me waiting to be seen but Dr. Konstantelos never makes me feel like a number or just another patient, or like I'm wasting his time. He is a wonderful, caring and compassionate doctor who truly seems to care and listen. He always goes the extra mile to help me, to really listen and try to come up with solutions and do more than is required to get me better than new. He even looks at all the vitamins I bring in! He is very easy to talk with and he remembers things about me like where I work, what I do and even where I've gone on vacation. He is so very personable and friendly yet very professional. Dr. Konstantelos is the kind of empathetic yet solid doctor that you would hope to have if you could. I feel lucky to have him as my GP and on my side so to speak medically. I'm one of those people who avoids doctors of any kind. If I'm feeling good - why go, right? Well, a) I'm not that person anymore, and b) ok so perhaps there are things you can't tell by how you feel that you need someone to tell you about. As for "a", a big part of my change in approach to doctors is because of Dr. K. He's great - very real, friendly, easy to talk to, talks to you like a person and not a patient and generally makes you feel completely comfortable throughout the visit. You never feel rushed or that you're "taking up his valuable time." While I'm sure his time _is_ valuable, so is mine and he's very considerate when it comes to making his appointments on time - or close to it. He is concerned to make sure you get a chance to speak; to ask your questions. You don't feel like you're in a factory where you're on an assembly line and if you don't speak up before you're on to the next slot in the process you lose out. I really am so glad I found him and he has helped me already in many ways. It's actually not so bad anymore to go to "the doctor" when one should. read more

I decided to see Dr. K because my PCP was booked. I love my PCP so I didn't know what to expect. Well since that initial visit, I have gone back about 3 times! He is usually available at the times I need. He is very personable. He has you sit down in a chair next to him while he types all the info(symptoms) on his computer. He has excellent eye contact! He is very thorough and I feel like I can ask any question( silly or not). He has referred me to other great Doctors for other health issues. An added plus is he is a graduate of a Chicago Public School which I am too and it makes me feel good to see a successful CPS student in medical field...and a fabulous one at that!!! I started going to him in December of 2010, and I won't need a new doctor until he retires. :) He is thorough, he takes his time, he doesn't rush you, he allows you to ask questions, he makes you feel comfortable, and he is just all around great. I'd been in Chicago for about 9 months, and the doctor that I had chosen near where I work was not good. I got the idea that he was racist and homophobic, and is idea of a physical was to listen to my breathing. I was frustrated and my friend told me that he had the best doctor in the world, AND that he was gay too. I made an appointment to see Dr. K and I have to say I was not disappointed. He is a very caring doctor, willing to discuss anything with you. He has a patient portal where you can discuss health concerns with him and his PA, and they will generally answer you within a few hours. One time, I was Dr. K's last patient, and he was on his way to the airport for his tropical vacation. I had a piece of glass stuck in the bottom of my foot and couldn't get it out. Even though he was in a rush, he spent a full 20 minutes trying to retrieve it. I told him multiple times he could go, but he wasn't satified until he tried everything to get it out. When he wasn't able to get it out, he sent me home with some supplies to do it myself and instructions to get it out, and i was able to remove it myself. Dr. K is very candid and open about discussing the health issues facing homosexual men, so it's such a comfort to go to a doctor where you feel like you can talk about anything and have your questions answered to your satisfaction. Dr. K is the best doctor I have ever had, and I will follow him if he ever decides to go elsewhere! read more

Dr. K has literally the perfect personality for a PCP. He covers all of the bases every single time. You are going to leave that office knowing that he has thought about every single organ system, your mental health, your sexual health, etc. He loves having quantifiable data about your health and isn't one of these doctors that will only sporadically run bloodwork or take samples. Let me assure you, if it can be tested for and prevented or treated, Dr. K is ON IT. You will know more about your health (and have the metrics to prove it) than you have ever taken the time to think about. Immunizations? He's way ahead of you. New treatment option available? You'll know without having to ask. Sexual health and/or LGBT-centric questions? Dr. K is all over it -he is a gay man and relates so well. His visits are actually fun. I like leaving the doctor feeling like every last question I have is heard and a concrete treatment plan is in place, as needed. You will NOT find better preventative and primary care anywhere in the world. I promise you'll never see another PCP in your life. read more

I have been visiting doctor for the past 11 years and I never ever had a bad visit with him. He is the best doctor I have seen and will keep visiting him no matter where i am as he is so caring. He is so compassionate and walks the extra mile with you to help you in your health journey. I am fortunate to have found him to be my doctor. I've been seeing Dr. Konstantelos for over 5 years now. Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable; all the things you'd want in a doctor. But he also goes above and beyond to make you feel like he truly cares about your health and overall well-being. He listens and remembers pretty much anything you say. I've never had a doctor before that I've been so comfortable with. Minus the fact that I'm usually sick when I'm there, it usually feels like I'm just going to hang out with an old friend for awhile. How good is Dr K? We are moving to the east coast and we are sincerely considering flying back once a year to see him for our annual check ups! When changing insurance - he is the only non negotiable. My husband found him first and had such an amazing experience, I started going. I have since referred a few friends. He is so smart, and a great listener. He remembers things you told him years ago without looking at the chart. He genuinely cares and takes as much time as needed to take care of your stated issue as well as give you some tough love. He is supportive in a way no other doctor has ever been. My husband who has several tough medical issues actually sees him quarterly just because he feels Dr K is so invested in his health journey. He is great at responding to emails. Probably half the emails I send him get responded to within 30 minutes. All within 24 hours. And he actually responds. Most NW doctors have their nurses reply and sometimes it takes days. Recently my husband had routine blood work done and dr k was so concerned about what he saw he called my husband from his house at 6am! It woke my husband up but it's just another example of how much he cares. He didn't email the result. He didn't wait until later in the day. He called him from his house before he got his day going! Last, I don't understand 1 star results from people who thought he was accepting patients but wasn't. Seems silly to be. Disappointed that he's not accepting patients? Don't give him 1 star - you can bet NW is letting him see as many patients as physically possible. Bad information in NW website? Blame NW! read more

The overall group is first-class - all the basics you need to do are in the same facility and this was the most efficient, on-time medical experience I've had in a LONG time. I moved from Oak Park a few months ago and liked my Dr. there, but decided to give a local doc a try. I chose him mainly 'cuz of the Yelp reviews - and I like that he's affiliated with Northwestern. Amazing doctor!! About ten years ago I had a sore throat and happend to have an appointment with Dr. Konstantelos and never looked back! He has been my GP through marriage, pregnancy, motherhood and hopefully into old age! He is awesome! Very friendly and genuinely cares. You would think you're his only appointment of the day because he takes his time and listens really well. He really goes above and beyond. He knows I am a total hypochondriac and delivers lab results with speed and is happy to email, call or message them through relay health. Speaking of relay, I can send him a message and he replies quickly which is awesome! He is now at the Belmont location and it's really, really nice! i have been going to Dr Chris since his first year of taking patients (6-7 years) and have followed him through the last 3 locations of practice. i have a chronic condition and he is the first to make me feel normal and assist me in ways to do everything and anything to my fullest. i would easily think i do not want to share his attention with anyone, but i also know how hard it is to find someone like him, so i happily share his info with friends and co workers. he has become a topic of regular conversation with my family and friends because he is so relatable, unbelievably intelligent and well versed on ANYTHING, and just a good person. if you are looking for someone who really cares and wants to make your life easier, go see him. he responds to you electronically and or his nurse Joy will be on the phone with you same day. they are an amazing team and i will never go to anyone else but him for as long as he will have me it also helps that he is so adorably handsome:) read more
