I enjoy the friendly customer service here and they do not add additional stress you my time to get thru an annual exam. What else I like is they always ask if you need parking validation and make sure all your questions is answered. I have been coming here for over a decade. Avoid Dr. Amy Kissinger like the plague. I went to her three months ago with constant head and neck pain and she blew me off saying it was migraines and wrote me a prescription for some very expensive drugs. No tests run, didn't listen to most of what I said. A month later I returned because the headaches hadn't gone away. She didn't even examine me and gave me another migraine medicine. Last week I went to another doctor. She ordered a cat scan first thing. Turns out that I have a severe sinus infection... never mind that this was one of the things I suggested to Dr. Kissinger on my original visit, which she promptly dismissed. Gee, I wonder if it was as severe THREE months ago when Dr. Kissinger should have caught it to begin with!? If you want a quality, thorough doctor, try Dr. Anne Suh (also reviewed on yelp). She's at a different practice in the loop and is VERY thorough and willing to listen and get to the bottom of the problem. read more

I just had my last visit to Northwestern Internists. I made an appointment earlier in the week for a cholesterol test and to see my doctor to get prescribed a medicine recommended for an upcoming trip. When I arrived at the office there was the usual confusion in the front office area that I have become used to, but overlooked in the past due to the quality of the physicians. However today they could not find my appointment and told me I would need to reschedule. I explained my disassisfaction with that option and also shared that I would be out of town the following week. However they continued to only offer me appointments for the following week. I had to ask to speak to a manager to see if one of the other Doctors that I have seen before could assist. The Manager told me all other doctors were full and could not assist and again offered me an appointment for the following week. The combination of the front office team always being disorganized and now flat out rude and unwilling to assist one of their patients has left me with no alternative but to seek a new practice. Think twice about visiting this practice! read more

This review is for Dr. David Fox. I am a 67 year old educated female with multiple medical issues. I have spondylolisthesis (dislocated lumbar vertebra), osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chemical sensitivity syndrome, restless leg syndrome, and am a 14 year cancer survivor. I have seen many, many doctors since having cancer in 2000. I'm recommending Dr. Fox if you have chronic conditions where you need opioid medications to manage the pain. In my case, I take Norco (hydrocodone/Tylenol) to manage back pain and to avoid spinal fusion as long as possible. Unlike most doctors today, Dr. Fox is comfortable prescribing these medications because he understands how they work, makes absolutely certain you are not overdosing by checking your prescription refills (yes, these are all available from ALL pharmacies in a central prescription-refill database), and searching for the best dosage patterns. In my case we tried to substitute fentanyl patches, but they played with my mind and made me afraid I would jump out of a window. We tried Zohydro, a time release hydrocodone, but it was less effective than Norco. I tried acupuncture several years ago and it was ineffective, so he did not push it on me to try again. He is knowledgeable about these medications, helped me take them responsibly, and did not criticize me for wanting to avoid surgery. read more

Well, now I am underwelmed. I finally got through to Dr. Primer about his staff and it is several days later and it appears that there is a blue line in place. I am switching to Rush and their doctors where it appears they are actually far more personal and being treated like a person rather than a number is not a surprise. I went to my first doctors visit 1725 West Harrison Street SUITE 318 Chicago, IL 60612 IT ROCKED -- the practice group I saw was Dr. Scott Palmers. Palmer and Zavala. His group is located in the hospital so if they need anything it is right there - but HERE WAS THE KICKER - aside from him being listed as a top doctor - his practice is run like a personal practice. Unlike Northwestern Internists, the 5 doctors in the practice were right in the waiting room getting their patients to come in the back. I was not escorted through a large waiting room to another back waiting room back to a room to wait for the doctor, instead they come out and get you. The staff is about 6 woman up front and they actually smile and are more worried about seeing to your needs than making sure they have every possible billing item in place. The nurse who drew blood did it flawlessly and wonder of wonders I made the appointment only the DAY BEFORE as a new patient. In other words they treated me like I would expect to be treated by a doctors office. The doctor spent almost half an hour with me personally to do my physical. I never saw the nurse until after he was done. It was the exact opposite of the treatment I had become used to over the past 6 or so years. Oh and finally - for those of you who hate to park in winter and walk blocks to the doctor or who dont like paying $25 for self park. At rush, the valet who was super busy took a whooping 5 minutes to get my car and give me a ticket. When I was done - literally another 5 minute wait for my car and the price for this white glove touch - $13.00. I am sold. read more

This review is for the horrible staff not any of the dr's because I was not able to get in to see one. I made an appointment way in advance between two trips I was taking and I call the day of my apt to make sure I had the time right because I had to fly out that day. They tell me that I was not scheduled that day but for a day that I had a wedding and there was no way I would have booked an apt. OK, being uninsured and somewhat in denial about how blurry the need-professional-care line is, this place is awesome. From my experience, they can normally get you in between 1 and 3 days if you don't specify a particular doctor, which is incredible--sometimes even during the same day if you've got something that sounds frightening. A funny tagline minted by my boyfriend after he overheard making an appointment: "For when you have a $200 rash instead of a $2,000 emergency room rash."* I've tried a few doctors here and can give a big thumbs up to Primer in terms of listening and not seeming rushed like some of the other doctors here. Although my boy goes to Primer exclusively and was a bit miffed that he sent him on an expensive test that did nothing but confirm the symptom reported, I love this place. Ellen Ross is also a good one. Everyone I've seen was professional, they accommodate the uninsured masses, and they can get you in and out pretty quickly. Plus all the doctors are part of Northwestern across the street, so if you need any actual hospital stuff done they'll be right there for you. Rawk on. *Not that I'm saying you should use this place as a cheap emergency room or anything. I'm allergic to everything and rash prone, so this place is great. But if you're going into anaphylactic shock or the like, an emergency room is the only place for you, K? read more

As a preface to my review of Dr. Amy Kissinger, I usually don't accompany my wife to doctor appointments unless it's a new physician or health care provider. Being a physician myself (neurosurgeon), it can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable for the physician I'm about to grill on behalf of a loved one. As such, I make it a point not to divulge my occupation, however, given the technical path my questioning instinctively takes it tend to raise eyebrows. When I sense this, I'll simply say, "Eh, I read a lot." And leave it at that. Dr. Kissinger is a consummate professional. She passed my pre-exam inquisition with thoughtful and accurate responses. Dr. Kissinger knows her specialty well and through my own research also discovered that she is connected with top quality specialists and peers within the local medical community that recommended her. Dr. Kissinger's bedside manner is equally impressive. My immediate impression was that of being approachable and comforting which transfers to the patient, which in this case was my wife, who felt quickly at ease with her. It also doesn't hurt that Dr. Kissinger ahs a good sense of humor, too. Northwestern Internists is a busy practice and with all large practices the initial impression is can be disappointing. But it's beyond the front desk and the waiting room is what's most critical. I'm satisfied that my wife will be in good care; most importantly, my wife feels confident and comfortable to be in Dr. Kissinger's care. read more

These 5 stars are for Dr Brandt. I went to see him as my Primary Care Physician based on reviews from Yelp and I'm here to say they're 100% true. I've been seeing him for 6+ months now and am thoroughly pleased. Not only does he have one of the best bedside manners of any doctor I've been to but he's also sharp technically. He gave an awesome referral and also prescribed me a specific compound rx that knocked out horrible symptoms from another drug I had to take. He looked at my symptoms and said "hold on" I think I've got something; it was a specific cocktail based on what his colleagues in the oncology unit had noticed. I tell you all of that to say you're not only getting his sage intellect but you're also reaping the benefits of the collective knowledge of one of the best hospitals in the world in Northwestern! Also, now that this group is part of Northwestern, they use the online MyCharts system for patient communication and I love it. Northwestern Internists is a pretty popular place to go so I find it easier to do things online than call their phone. read more

I have been seeing Dr. John Glynn here for many years and am always impressed by how well he remembers me and not just based on my medical files. Despite some other patients claims, I've NEVER had a problem getting a same day appointment and as an asthma sufferer, nearly all my appointments end up being same day. He's also not stingey on handing out perscription samples which really helps me a lot too since my insurance situation has been kinda violatile after getting kicked of my parents policy and also saves on a trip to Walgreens! The front office can get a little busy and hectic but thats somewhat expected with such a large practice. Overall, very pleased with this place. read more

My husband and I visit Dr. Brandt, and he's great! He listens to everything you have to say, works with you to fix any issues you're having, and really takes his time to explain what's going on with you. I also love visiting him because if they have samples of medication you're on, he'll give them to you! Saving money? Yes please! I'm also terrible afraid of having my blood taken, but he and his lab team (I had Erica and she was great!) really put you at ease and take your mind off the lab work. This is the first place I have not passed out at during my lab work. The office is usually busy all the time, so be sure to arrive 15 minutes early if you have an appointment after seeing the doctor. I recently began seeing Dr. Brandt. I went in for issues with my breathing and swelling. Dr. Brandt didn't make me feel rushed or like his time was any more valuable than mine. Spent the first appointment ordering a number of labs and listened to every question and concern I had. Unlike a lot of doctors, who will refer you onto a specialist when the first thing they thought was the root of your issues was wrong, Dr. Brandt has kept digging deeper and deeper to find out what is the cause of everything going on. He shows a genuine interest in your challenges and truly wants to figure it all out. I also love that he is more on the conservative side when it comes to prescribing medicine, especially given my young age. He put me on as little as possible which in turn doesn't make me feel like a groggy mess. To top it off, he was super helpful and gave me a couple of samples from the office so that I would not have to pay an arm and a leg. Total score for a youngin' like me! Besides Dr. Brandt being awesome, the nurse I've seen has been great and remembered all of the small details from my prior visit. I also love that they have the patient portal where you can see all of your lab results, Dr's notes, appointments, submit questions, etc. I wouldn't choose to go anywhere else! read more

Dr. Amy Kissinger is phenomenal! I have been a patient of hers since 2006, and I have now referred 7 of my best friends to her for primary care. Dr. Kissinger takes time to know each one of her patients personally, and she always makes you feel comfortable talking with her about health concerns, even when sensitive. She respects your intelligence yet spends time educating you on all possible outcomes. Each one of my friends has appreciated her bedside manner as well, many with rave reviews. I have been consistently impressed with Dr. Kissinger's willingness to work with me in getting me into the office immediately when I am sick by seeing me over her lunch hour or offering another Physician. More importantly, Dr. Kissinger pays attention to your particular insurance and prescribes medication that will meet your needs while working with your insurance and budget. On several occasions, I have been in between insurance providers and needed antibiotics for a sinus infection. Dr. Kissinger provided samples and inexpensive generic medication that would do the trick to help me during these times. About 9 months ago, I went to Dr. Kissinger with extreme pain in my lower back with no indication of the cause. Not only did Dr. Kissinger work me into her schedule 4 times in 3 weeks, but she went above and beyond to run every test possible and rule out every possibility. As it turned out, her hunch was correct - I had a kidney stone. She followed up with me after each MRI and each surgery to see if she could help with pain medication, etc. This is true patient care. I cannot imagine having a better physician than Dr. Kissinger. Sure, the office staff is not always as friendly and proactive. But, knowing that I am in good hands with Dr. Kissinger makes me value my experience at NWI. read more

Dr. John Glynn is AWESOME! I highly recommend him - a great Internist and a very cool guy. I have to update this because I've just been back to see Dr. Glynn and he actually mentioned seeing this review so I thought I would check out what I wrote and give a little update. Anyhow, Dr. Glynn is still a super great Internist and I still TOTALLY recommend him if you are looking for a general doctor. I went in today with a cold and he gave me enough samples for a LONG time - VERY nice. No one likes a trip to the Walgreens if they don't have to make one. Also, Dr. Glynn is the first and only doctor to take me seriously enough to hook me up with the Center for Sleep Medicine who diagnosed my Narcolepsy. If it wasn't for that diagnosis, I would probably be unemployed and very unhappy these days. ALSO, he has done an incredible job of corresponding with my sleep doctor and other doctors when necessary through emails and phone calls. You've gotta appreciate that. These 5 stars go to Dr. Brandt and the lab staff. I had been experiencing frustrating problems with my digestive/GI system and wanted some answers. It felt like I waited a long time for him to come into the room, but once he did he was very friendly and personable and listened to what I was saying. He gave plenty of options for me to try over the next couple weeks and to then see him for a follow up. I had never given blood before, and when he said I needed to give him a sample, I got a headache immediately. I told the lab staff that I was very nervous and they were nothing but super sweet and accomodating. Very pleased. read more

We're relatively new to the city still (been here a little over a year), but for that entire year we've been patients of Dr. Jason Primer. Dr. Primer is awesome. Every review on here is spot-on. He's extremely personable. A great listener. Not one to just write prescriptions for no reason. He truly takes his time to listen to what you're saying and tries to help find the true root of the problem. I've never felt that I was just another number and that he was trying to rush through to meet his daily quota. The only reason I would give them 4 out of 5 stars is because sometimes it's hard to get in to see him right away. Not that he can do anything about that. I had a pretty urgent need to get in to see a doctor and called their office at 8 AM to schedule an appointment. Based on some reviews here I was hoping it would be in the next day or two. But, by 9:20 was in the waiting room. The staff were absolutely incredible, gracious and accommodating and incredibly efficient. I saw Dr Brandt and have never felt so comfortable in a doctor's office before. He gave great attention and concern, and was able to get me in for necessary lab work the same day and called me back with results the next day! After being laid out sick for a few days after vacation, I called Northwestern Internists on a Tuesday afternoon and they were able to get me in (even as a new patient!) the very next day. The phone staff was super friendly, understanding, and helpful. I saw Dr. Ellen Ross based on a recommendation from a friend and couldnt have been happier with my experience. She is absolutely lovely. Kind and easy to talk to, but matter-of-fact and straightforward. She listened to my list of qualms and questions, and did a thorough check-up. She offered practical advice, and didn't make me feel rushed. I appreciated her willingness to prescribe only the necessary medications -- definitely not the kind of doctor that just writes prescriptions and leaves. I have been struggling with my blood pressure for the last 7 years and have seen many doctors and no one could really help me fix the problem. They suggested that i loose another 10lbs get fit and drink less. Yes I have been doing all of those and I am so close to my ideal weight its just 5lbs away. I visited here for the 1st time for an annual checkup because my fiance said I should. but why i care I am fit, strong and healthy. well eventually i gave in to come have myself checked out. Dr Brandt was assigned to me and I guess I have struck gold as he made me very comfortable and we discussed all my past ailments, illnesses et cetera. Most importantly he put me on this new meds that immediately brought my BP down to normal. WOW I am impressed but I think i need to get off them sooner or later I think they affect my libido. well nobody complained yet :) The nurses in the lab are fantastic and had me calm, yes I hate needles but i don't faint or pass out I just don't like blood work being done on me and I must say before I knew it they were done and I did not even feel anything, very impressive. I have a hard time when they draw blood because i have hard veins to find. So for those who hate needles or have a hard time, ask to go to 2nd floor, Phlebotomy Dept. Thats all they do! They are wonderful! A quick one-time stick with the needle and voila! I have been in docs offices where i have been stuck several times and to no avail. So go down to Phlebotomy and its easy peasy! When Dr Julie Brandies left the practice, I was devastated. I am an extremely healthy person so my need to see a doctor is limited to just my annual checkup. I am also not an avid fan of doctors in this country. I feel that it is primarily about profit and the patient's healing and well being just secondary. What tests can we subject them to, what meds can we push, what types of charges can this patient incur so that we can make the most money out of this visit. Yes, I said it, most doctors are not out to find a cure but instead put a band aid so that they can relieve you of your illness temporarily but not really getting into the root cause to eliminate it. I spent 3 years having blood in my urine and saw 3 specialists in Northwestern who are in network with my insurance and they put me through tests and even want to slice me up . I saw a different doctor out of pocket and guess what it was all about? Aspirin! I was angry with these doctors. I am not saying all but I can say most. I would rather spend my money eating and living healthy than dropping a penny to any form of medical expense. That is why I love Dr Brandies, she combines western medicine with holistic treatment. I went to see Dr Orders, she was ok but not really impressed. This year I tried Dr Brandt and I really like his personality and the fact that he answers all your questions patiently and doesn't rush you. He even responds to online messages after you see him for follow up. He gives you his time and attention which for me is very important. Most doctors these days just want to get you in and out so they can make the most patients for the day. I did not feel that with Dr Brandt. The worst front and back office staff I have ever encountered. It took them four days to return a call to our pharmacy for pain meds my husband needed. I have called every day this week for a refill, and not only have they not called it in, but when I tell the front desk about the issue, they have attitude. I am unimpressed by the doctor we met, and the practice's staff is the laziest I have ever seen. We are never returning. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Brandt for a number of years now. I give him 5+ stars. He has great bedside manners and really explains everything to you in a language one can understand. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Primary Care Physician. My biggest complaint has been the support staff, especially as of the last few months. I don't know if this has to do with the changes going on over there but it has gotten so bad that I've considered changing doctors but haven't because Dr. Brandt is that good. There use to be a few really good people over there but now I feel 9/10 times I call, I receive major attitude. Having to go in to see a doctor normally isn't something someone looks forward to, which is something anyone in a doctors office should understand. Why is it so hard to be polite and nice? If things don't turn around over there, I do see myself researching other options in the future. read more

The "customer service" was so poor both times I called to make an appointment, that I decided against pursuing an actual appointment. I feel somewhat badly giving this practice a 1-star rating based on the receptionists alone, but perhaps one of the doctors at this practice will read this review, wise up and look into improving the individuals who interact with us patients prior to the actual office visit. The front desk staff is rude and incompetent. They NEVER let you make a same-day appointment despite their claims to be able to do so. They also won't let you see another Dr. if your Dr. is unavailable that day. What's the point of a multi-Dr GP practice then? Their billing system is horrible- I am currently being charged for appointments I never made that they made in my name instead of someone else's and they refuse to admit that this is even a remote possibility. I saw Dr. Beverly Calub several times and was very underwhelmed with her bedside manner. She is very abrupt, spends as little time with you as possible, and is consistently running at least 30 mins late. I wanted to switch to Dr. Primer as my husband sees him and loves him, and the office had to ask Dr. Calub for her permission to do so. I never heard back about whether or not she "agreed" to it and husband and I are both going to take our business elsewhere. read more

Dr. Royston is my PCP. She is awesome. My appointments are quick but thorough. I have been seeing her since 2009 and have never had to wait very long for my appointment, and she usually can get me in quickly if I have an urgent problem. I get quick results my mail and online to any labs that get run in the office. She keeps great notes on all of my health issues. I've had anxiety, UTIs, systemic poison ivy allergic reaction, pinched nerves, IBS, and menstrual issues -- she has helped me with all of these problems! Highly recommend. The office staff is nice and were also very helpful when Blue Cross Blue Shield screwed up my insurance information. read more

I moved to Chicago less than a year ago and when it was time for my annual check up I started looking for a doctor. Northwestern Internists are just across the street from my office and the reviews on here were good, so I decided to give them a try. I am glad I did! Dr Primer is fantastic. He is very attentive, knows how to listen and is willing to explain everything in lay terms without sounding condescending. Appointments are easy to schedule, the staff are are polite and efficient, they do most if not all tests on the premises. I would highly recommend this practice to any of my friends. read more

Always tries to find the least invasive solution to any problem I may have. I usually feel better about myself after I have seen him. Very encouraging to me to take control of my medical issues. Always makes me fell that I was not rushed. Willing to prescribe emergency medications to take on foreign trips. Easy to see when I have a pressing problem. Has a very gentle touch. I have never had a better primary care physician, and I feel like I trust him with my health and life - which given my past experiences with many a doctor, is quite a feat! Doctor Brandt never makes me feel rushed, always spends as much time with me as I need him to, never makes fun of my hypochondriac moments, offers complete and easy to understand explanations, and most of all gets results by giving effective treatments. His best ability is to listen to me and understand the history of my problems, the current state of things and the results that I need to get. I went in here hoping to get squeezed in for an appointment. I was worried about getting a random doctor because my primary care physician was out of town but I was given Dr. Soglin. She was a breath of fresh air. She is the type of doctor who runs tests and x-rays to rule things out or make sure she isn't overlooking anything, which I appreciated, because too many times I have left other doctors' offices wishing they had done more. This was my first visit to Dr. Brandt, I went because of recent stomach issues. The exam itself was fine, it is what occurred today that is troubling. I was given a medication to try and after an hour of my first dose my entire face was tingling and numb, I was dizzy, lightheaded and obviously freaked out. I called my husband at work, crying, so he could come home to care for our 2 year old, I couldn't stand up. I called the office and explained my issues and asked if maybe I needed a lower dose or an alternative. A nurse called me back and promptly told me the side effects I was experiencing had nothing to do with the medication, when I objected and reiterated how awful I felt she reminded me they were a doctors office, they know what they are talking about. I hung up the phone feeling defeated and with no sound advice. It has taken me 14 hours to feel somewhat normal, I cannot comprehend the irresponsibility of Northwestern Internists. Even if my test results warrant another visit I will not be returning to this practice. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Ross for about 5 years and recently decided I absolutely need to change primary care physicians. Bottom line if I had a major illness I do not have confidence that she (or the network she refers to) could figure out what was wrong with me before I died. Seriously. I've had 2 common issues over the past 5 years that took much longer to diagnose than they should have taken. The first condition was extremely painful on a daily basis and it was 4 years before I decided not to trust her referrals (one of whom told me I just had "sensitive tissue") and went out on my own to find a real expert. After years of her being treated like the symptoms were in my head, I was complainer, just depressed, I just needed to learn to live with the pain, the list goes one... I found my condition required surgery. Now, no thanks to her, I'm better. The other issue was frequent congestion. When I asked why I felt congested so often she asked "well do you think something is intrinsically wrong with you?" Still not sure what that meant but I didn't like the sound of it. Must agree with the fabulous reviews of Dr. Ellen Ross below. Am a very fussy, fraidy cat patient, was referred by one of Dr. Ross's long-time patients. Very pleased with quality of care received by Dr. Ross, the nurses, the front desk staff, and the lab techs who painlessly drew my blood. Kudos! read more
