A few miscues. Heis a good Doctor at times but not with the best bedside manners. He also did not get me medication based on my high cholestrol and in March 2025, it led me an expensive hospital visit. Additionally, the payment system alignment with Advocate Care has been terrible, I was directed that all my bills will be lilsted on the Live Well app, but the app does not list all bills and now I got a call from a collection agency. I have paid the amount in full but it just caused me an extra incovenience. read more

The rating would have been higher, but like others I was disappointed with Dr T's affiliation with Advocate Aurora. Also, I saw Dr T for years after doing a search for gay doctors in Chicago, including Yelp where Dr T (today March 21, 2025) shows up second as a gay physician. He also usually shows up in Google searches as gay. He is NOT. He's certainly gay-friendly, but he doesn't specialize or have that much experience with gay- or trans-specific medical care. For example, when I first asked for a prescription for Truvada, he referred me to an epidemiologist. He is not a fan of hormone therapy under any circumstances even if your hormone levels are abnormally low. He's a fine Primary Care Physician. When I told him he showed up as gay in internet searches, he had no idea why. Again, good doctor, but if you're looking for LGBT+ specific care, he's probably not the one. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I'm writing this in hopes that Dr. T. will make some changes, because as a doctor, he's the best. He's always friendly, great bedside manner, and he takes the time to ask the questions that help you get better. He cares. You can tell - it's palpable. He's a good human being - the kind of person you want as your doctor. Everything else about this place is so sub-par that I have to rate this a one. The help in this place is bad. There are some very rare exceptions, but by and large the admin people there are rude, ignorant and dim. I gave my birth year as "76" once and one of them said "NINETEEN seventy six?" No, 2076 - I'm a time traveler that's decided to come back to 2025 just to waste my time at a doctor's office. Worst of all is his new affiliation with Advocate Healthcare. It used to be you'd just call and one of the receptionists would answer right away. They were still rude and dim, but you actually got a human. Now you have to wade through some automated system and a 20-minute wait just to make an appointment. Worse than this is Advocate's policies, which are nothing more than transparent cash grabs. I have a condition Dr. T. diagnosed me with a couple years ago that requires a yearly ultrasound to check up on something to make sure it's not turned into cancer. He told me "you're going to want to get this checked every year with an ultrasound." So it's been a year, I need another ultrasound. I called the ultrasound place and they require a referral. I phoned Dr. T's office (waited 20 minutes, of course), explained my situation and they said they'd get the referral over to the imaging place. THREE DAYS LATER I get a call back - "you have to come in for an appointment." So, now I have to waste three hours of my day (and I get paid hourly so that's hundreds of dollars) just so you can get your money? HE ALREADY TOLD ME I NEED THIS ULTRASOUND EVERY YEAR. He does NOT need to see me. I was told that it's now policy that he MUST see you once a year. So even though EVERYONE knows I don't need to come in, the new policy insists I do. This is a blatant cash grab by Advocate. So, at the end of the day, rather than try to help me find out whether I have cancer, Dr. T's office and their affiliation with Advocate INSISTS I come in and waste my time and money so that they can get paid. This is what you can expect at this place. DO NOT GO HERE. Again, Dr. T. is great. If he ever goes anywhere else (not affiliated with Advocate), I'll be his first patient and give him a 5-star rating. But for now, avoid this place like the plague. read more

After a return move to Chicago, Dr. Tenhundfeld became my GP again. I had some issues filing a claim with an insurance carrier that needed a doctor's evaluation. Dr. T helped me fill out the carrier's paperwork not once, but twice and I got the result I was looking for. He's among the very best! read more

Doctor Tenhundfeld really saved my life 8 years ago. I have been seeing him ever since. My old Doctor retired and I needed to refill a prescription. Another doctor friend of mine recommended Dr. "T", and I scheduled an appointment. In the first 5 minutes he proceeded to give me a full physical and detected potential Prostate Cancer. He provided me with a referral to an expert and scheduled some hospital tests the same day!! Funny thing was I can not remember the last time a doctor had performed a full physical - maybe in school? Long Story Short - After Further biopsies it was determined that I had "Significant & Aggressive" cancer - stage "3" / Gleason score "7"!! I was only 54 and had always heard that this type of cancer was an old man's disease. I continue to meet with my Cancer Doctor for follow-up tests. I am still cancer free, but my Cancer Doctor explained to me this week that I had a very aggressive type of cancer and that if I had not caught it in time, I would have died, It was like I caught it just in time. So Doctor "T" actually saved my live. He is serious and he listens, but in this case, I had NO SYMPTOMS. I had no idea. I was very pleased with my doctor visit yesterday. In a city with countless physicians, I rely partly on research and partly on referrals. I found this to be a great choice, all things considered (office, staff, PARKING!!!!, and of course, the doctor). I don't look for a doctor who just prescribes me medicine and gets me out the door...I much prefer someone who gives me an individualized assessment and care. Dr. Tenhundfeld sat with me for a while, listened to my symptoms, and provided a diagnosis that fit. He also provided me with great life advice, as well, which was well-received. I felt that he was able to relate to me. He accepts UHC, and most other major health plans. If you're needing a doctor, I would suggest scheduling an appointment. read more

Dr. Tenhundfeld was another person I found by using Yelp.com, and I was nothing but impressed. I actually was looking for doctors by my apartment, and found Dr. Tenhundfeld on Google, but listed with the wrong address listed. The address they had was just steps away from my apartment, but it turned out he was actually in Lincoln Park on Diversey. After reading Yelp I decided it was worth the drive, and I am very happy that I did so. When I contacted Dr. Tenhundfeld's office I told them I was in need of a check up because after moving to Chicago I hadn't seen a doctor in a while. I had a family doctor back home in the suburbs for YEARS, but after living in the city for a while decided that I didn't want to drive an hour home to see a doctor. I told them that I was looking to establish myself with a doctor in Chicago that I could be comfortable with. I've had seen a couple REALLY bad family doctors in Chicago, and didn't really want to deal with it again. Dr. Tenhundfeld was really the right decision. He is extremely friendly, and actually funny each visit. He is the type of person you can be completely honest and open with, and he will answer any possible question you have. I was extremely impressed with the amount of time he took while I was there. He didn't rush you out like most doctors do, which is hard to find. I had come into the office with a couple different concerns and he took time to ask several questions and take extensive notes throughout my chart so he could get to the bottom of each one. He explains everything to do in easy ways to understand, and you feel informed leaving the office. After one visit with him he made many suggestions, and some prescriptions that had me feeling better right away. He also made a great referral to a specialist for me to see, and it worked out great. What I found most impressive is that he didn't mind that my fiance was in the room the entire time. We are a gay couple, and my fiance wanted to be in the room to ask a couple questions as well. I had been having some bad stomach issues, and my fiance wanted to hear what could be wrong. I was a little nervous at first what he would think, but he was actually more than gay friendly. He went on to treat us like two friends that he knew, and made us both incredibly comfortable. I can not say enough how much we both appreciated it. It was a step above professionalism that you don't see everywhere. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly as well. I've never had a problem while calling the office, or when I'm in the office. I've also never had to wait more than ten minutes to see the doctor as well. I heard someone on here complain that she had to wait a very long time to see the doctor, and I've never seen that happen in the office. I will say this though, I would wait to see this doctor considering how much time he takes with each one of his patients! Dr. Tenhundfeld will definitely be my doctor for a very long time. In fact he is worth the trip to Chicago to see him even if I move away to the suburbs at some point. If you're looking for a doctor in Chicago look no further than this man! read more

I found Dr. Tenhundfeld at random, but I love this doctor. my first time seeing him, he sat down with me and went over a few of my past medical problems, one of which being depression. I told him it had gotten under control, and told me to make sure to let him know if I ever had problems with it again. I felt like it was genuinely sincere. when he learned that I was on birth control, he asked me if he could see it because he'd never heard of the brand before. after looking it over, he pulled out a little book and looked it up. I was extremely impressed and comforted by this; it's nice to have a doctor who knows he's not perfect/ doesn't know everything and is always willing to learn and try to understand. Hate to write a bad review about anybody, but this dr is awful. Went to him with the worst sore throat of my life. His aide wanted to do a strepp test but he told him not to, as he could take a look at my throat himself. Told me I just had a bad cold/flu and to ride it out. I got a second opinion and sure enough, tested positive for strepp and had to take 10 days of antibiotics. Not the kind of Dr people should ever pay to see. read more

I have an Updated review. My wife and i liked this guy at first (first 2 visits) But... He has put my wife in a place health wise that she was at 10 years ago in our opinion. I am sure he thinks he has good reasons for this but.... She had been on the same meds for over 10 years and that was fine with the doc at first but all of a sudden he starts trying to mess with amounts and types of meds. Now mind you, these meds have worked wonders for her. They are not meds like Vicodin or oxycontin or stuff like that. They are meds that help chemical imbalance and to help her with sleep and as i said she had taken the same kind and same dose that have worked great for 10 years after much searching for the right ones for her. Her Doctor 10 Years ago spent months and months to get the meds right and he knew that. Within 3 visits its all changed and my wife is right back to square 1. He seems like a good guy and all and is very nice but maybe if he listened to his patients better their care would better and that would in turn make their health and Lives better. Her condition now that he took her off a couple of the meds and added different ones and changed doses has gotten bad again. We are very dissapointed and will look for a different doc which is a pain. read more

I made an appt. to see Dr. Tenhundfeld at least a week in advance (no emergency, next available) and when I got there they said that I would be seeing the nurse practitioner. I was not told this, I specifically asked for an appt with Dr. Tenhundfeld. This is the second time this has happened. I chalked it up to miscommunication the first time. Not so much now. I love Dr. T and the Nurse Practitioner Wendy. I mostly see Wendy when I go in and they always get me an appointment right away. I never wait long to go back and I never feel rushed. Wendy is so sweet and also very insightful. They will do bloodwork in office which is so great. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that some of the office staff is not very friendly. The only slightly bad experience is a male nurse that is on staff is sometimes rough when he takes blood. read more

This is the review I wrote for Lincoln Park Family Physicians Group. Since Dr. Tenhunfeld is the practicing physician there, I thought it would be appropraite to post under him as well. I've only been there once... but you know what they say... you never get a second chance to make a first impression... So my first impression - Appearance - The place is nice and clean and comfortble. Parking - They have it for free, and there was plenty available. Receptionist - Below average. She was breathing like she had just run a marathon, but she was only working on 3 customers. This must have been too much for her. She also needs to work on her people skills. Instead of "thank you please have a seat" she would say "ok... oh... you can sit there are others in front of you". At least she tried to smile. Time - Was called on time. There weren't too many people in the waiting room but everyone was called quickly while I was there. While in the room I only had to wait a couple minutes for the doc to come in. Doctor - Dr. Tenhundfeld looked and acted professional. I have no reason to believe he is not a very good doctor. I felt comfortable the entire time. Follow up - I received x-rays, and had to call their office 1 day after and 3 days after to get the results. Twice I was told that St. Joseph's did not send them over. I don't know if I believe them. Overall - the doctor is good, which is most important, but they need to work on some other details to become a better clinic. I'll be back, but will be looking for improvement. * UPDATE * - I have since gone back to see Dr. Tenhundfeld twice. Each time I waited close to 40 minutes after being called to see the doctor. Although I believe he is a good doctor, that is just unprofessioanal and way too much time to wait to see the doctor. Based on this I have lowered my overall rating. read more

I recently switched to Dr. Tenhundfeld and am really impressed. He was very thorough in going through everyone's history and listening to all of my concerns - all of them. I can't remember the last time I had a doctor spend this much time in a visit, usually they are rushed and ready to get on to the next patient. He was also really good at interacting with my special needs kids and communicating with them on their level. The medical assistant was wonderful, too. She had a very gentle and sweet demeanor that is so rare and it made the whole visit even more pleasant. I'm really happy with my choice! read more

I have been a patient here for several years. When I first met Dr. T he was attentive and seemed to be an above average doctor. That has changed dramatically in the past year. He is no longer attentive. He is even rude and seems disinterested in helping me or listening to my requests. The staff doesn't seem like they want to be there. Guys and Gals, if you 're looking for a new doctor, this is the guy to go to. I just moved to the area, and needed to find a new PCP. I've had some nightmarish experiences with doctors, so my search for a doctor came with a jaded eye. The problem I have had with Doctors in the past, is that most of my experiences involved Dr's talking over me, trying to shuffle me out the door, and getting irritated when I asked questions. There is a reason they are highly compensated, but in my experience, that was more of a right than something to be earned. Dr. Tenhundfeld was the polar opposite. He communicated with me in terms I could understand, using analogies and metaphors to paint a clear picture. He took his time listening to my symptoms and my experiences, asked follow up questions, and allowed me to respond. He allowed me to ask questions and voice my concerns. If there was a treatment option I was not comfortable with, I felt like I was encouraged to voice my opinion. Some doctors take that as a slap in the face. Dr. Tenhunfeld just explained his reasoning behind that course of action, and why it was the best way to proceed. I appreciated that. As far as the other issues listed on here... didn't experience any of them. Called yesterday, had my appointment today. He was early for the appointment and the staff was friendly. For someone that has had some really bad experiences, this was an unbelievably refreshing experience. Good doctors are hard to find. Do yourself a favor, don't look anymore. I saw Dr. Tenhnundfeld several years ago upon a referral. He is definitely made for the young crowd; laid back, easy to speak with and has a lot of charisma. As a practiconer, I can not recommend him however. On one hand is the face of youth but on the other - controlling and it is going to be his way or the highway. It was very difficult to get an appointment and I found the practice to operate like a bank with quite strict opening and closing hours and too bad if you are really sick. I always had the feeling he was thinking about his nightlife perhaps more than his professional life. I left him within a year and have been now very happy with my current doctor for 7 years. read more

The problem is he uses blanket approaches to treating his patients rather than actually listening to them and using his medical expertise to dig a little and find out what may be wrong with them. Dr. T is quite a impressive physician. He has an immediate warm presence, and gave me confidence in his abilities. He asks a lot of questions and patiently allows me the answer completely. He didn't appear rushed, though his office looked busy. He explains thing in a clear and concise fashion that always appears very logical. I have followed his instructions which I believe I have responded well to. I know, of course, getting "better" doesn't always reflect the quality of a physician, but in this case I believe it has. Dr. Tenhundfeld has been my doctor since I moved to the city around 9 years ago. Every time I go in, he is always very laid back, matter of fact, and just a cool guy to talk to about anything health-related. He knows what he's talking about and makes you feel comfortable in the process. His N.P. Wendy is very friendly and good as well. To be honest, Dr. Tenhundfeld is a decent doctor...if you can actually GET IN to see him! I've been sick with mono for almost 2 months now. When I first got sick I thought I had strep throat and I wanted an exam. Since Dr. Tenhundfeld was the only doctor I'd seen in Chicago, I gave his office a call. His nurses/office staff said he wouldn't be able to see me until a week later. I was in a lot of pain, and I asked if I could just have a nurse give me a test. "No, Ma'am. Only doctors are allowed to administer strep tests." Well, needless to say, I kept calling back and asking to speak to the doc, when miraculously, a day later, I was given an appt. Who gave me the strep test, you might ask? A nurse. The test was negative and I was sent home. A week later, I was still in terrible pain, so I went back. Dr. T told me right away I had mono. He was personable during the check up, but again, his staff was less than helpful. About a week after getting diagnosed, I developed an incredible pain in my spleen. I called his office, and once again, they said Dr. T was busy and couldn't see me for a week. I asked if he could just call me and talk to me. They said they'd try to deliver the message. Five days later I got a phone call from the nurse saying he wanted me to have an ultrasound. By this time, I had already gone to an office down the street on Diversey and been seen by Dr. Arons at Park West Family Physicians. Things cleared up for a while with my mono until yesterday when my spleen started throbbing again. I called Dr. T's office at 9am and spoke to a nurse. At 11am I was in so much pain I was nauseas, so I called back. The nurse had no idea who I was, even though I'd called a couple hours earlier. I told her my previous experience of waiting 5 days for the doctor to call, and I asked when I could expect a callback from him. She laughed at me, and said she didn't believe I waited that long. She said I'd hear before the week was over. Well, I did hear back yesterday...at a quarter to 5pm, saying to call back before the office closed at 5pm. I missed the call, didn't get the message until 5:15. So that's that. Like I said, Dr. T is an alright physician, if you can actually get in to see him. And his staff (like so many people have commented) is still terrible. read more
