I'm about to ask Dr. Johansson for a group discount because I've sent many mommas to him! We met Dr. Johansson when I was pregnant and had to pick someone out of Swedish. While we had a pediatrician lined up, we were so impressed with his candor and expertise that we decided to switch to him. His assistant, Danielle, is such a lovely person. She's quick to return calls and has always squeezed us in when we had a concern and wanted Dr. Johansson to take a look. When you're a new parent and uncertain of everything, this is gold! My daughter had a bout of catching everything under the sun and we ended up in the hospital twice in a month. He was compassionate and thoughtful while we were sleep-deprived and upset. I'll forever be grateful that he advocated for us when we were having some issues with the hospital policy. read more

Very interactive diagnostician more interested in healing/treating patients than insurance regulations. Listens and explains; energetic and honest. One of the best doctors around. read more

After moving back to chicago after college I returned to northshore/Swedish as that's where my pediatrician was previously located. Since then I've seen only two primary care doctors (one- two times each if that), choosing them only because they had the earliest availability, not because I had a good connection with them, actually quite the contrary, as one suggested against a routine culture as I was sexually active but not showing ill symptoms. Anyway, I have an appointment for a procedure at a medspa next week and before moving forward with it, I wanted to meet with a new doctor to get a second opinion. I already paid my deposit with the medspa but have 72 hours to cancel it if need be. My primary care doctor (I've only seen once) was booked until September and I was looking to switch anyway. I booked with Dr. Johansson as he was the only doctor who had availability before my med spa appointment and had good reviews. I then received a phone call from his receptionist saying he couldn't take me. I asked why not. She said because "he's the doctor and he said so" and couldn't give me a reason. I was honest and said as long as there's availability with him online I'm going to continue to book until I have a valid reason for cancellation. I'm a paying customer with insurance. When I pushed for an answer, she said one can perceive my actions as 'doctor hopping,' which doctors don't like. I informed her that I had yet to speak with a licensed physician about this concern, as my record can reflect, and that I was just looking for a second opinion not necessarily a prescription. I previously missed an appointment regarding the same issue but the record reflects that I never met or spoke with a doctor. I haven't seen any doctor about anything since April. There was no "I'll let the doctor know" or "I'll have him follow up," it was a complete disregard for patient care. Pretentious, I have the power attitude, and cares more about being right than understanding not everyone situation is black and white. I understand there are patients that 'doctor hop' looking for a certain result but doctors should have the decency to hear a patient out. Patients should have a right to switch to doctors they feel comfortable and safe with, just like patients can switch therapists. Looks like not being able to schedule with him was a blessing in disguise. read more

We have had Dr. Johansson as our Doctor for years now and have never been disappointed. I recently called his office looking for a referral to a specialist, and Danielle was quickly on the phone back to me with exactly what I needed. Dr. Johansson treated my daughter for a sports injury and she has healed perfectly. He does a vigorous sports physical to ensure she was okay to play sports. I have never had a problem with Dr. J or his group and I will continue to take our family to him if we need medical care. read more

I have been with Dr. Johansson for over 5 years now and I cannot describe what great bedside manner he has. Some people forget that good doctors need good patients and I think that might be the problem with some of these reviews. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. J and I don't go too often because I am quite healthy. But when I do go, he does remember me and is always very kind. He listens carefully to my symptoms and has referred me to a wonderful podiatrist when I had to remove a bunion. He is also my "gyno" and has never made me feel uncomfortable and has been very patient and kind when performing whatever tests he needs to do. I have never had a negative experience seeing Dr. J nor have I waited in the waiting room for too long. I hope to one day bring my future children to him and I hope to have him as my Doctor for as long as possible. I am now privately insured and the number one issue was that Dr. J was covered under my plan. read more

I still love Dr. Johansson, but since he moved back into Swedish Covenant I seriously can never get an appointment with him. One of the reasons I started going to Dr. J ages ago is that he has Saturday hours. Those appointments are ALWAYS booked. It doesn't matter that I've been his patient for over 10 years, I just can't get in. Looks like it's time for me to switch, and I'm really bummed about that. read more

Dr. J is our family doctor. He is always nice and honest with us. He does not BS and is not pushy about his beliefs about vaccinations or anything. He has seen our family through so much and I travel far far far to see him. Totally great doctor!! After YEARS AND YEARS of going to Dr. J we had to move out of state and I've NEVER found another doctor like him. We came back to visit and my son got sick and we were able to get an appointment right away to see him and he welcomed us with warm hugs and great advice. He's really a one of a kind doctor. read more

I'm not kidding - this "doctor" almost cost me my life! I was 8 months pregnant, high fever, sore throat, and this "doc" tells me that my body is telling me I should be at home, not working, and resting for motherhood. Then suggested the fever was just "hormones" and the sore throat was just reflux because of the baby. I was too weak to smack him, but three days later when my NWMH doc came back and I was able to go, we found out I had a sinus infection, oh and pneumonia. I was on three rounds of antibiotics before I was better. If I could stand outside this moron's office with flyers not to go there I would. read more

The best doctor and best practice in the north side of Chicago! If you are looking for a quality doctor this is the place to go. He is knowledgeable, has excellent communication skills, and focuses on making sure your visits are as pleasant and helpful as possible. I would never see another doctor. read more

He does it all for us, a great family doc. Available, honest, competent, encouraging.

I read the two reviews that gave Dr. J a one star, and you must have issues of your own because I don't understand how you can find this man anything other than incredibly kind. Other than being a fantastic doctor he is a wonderful person. He genuinely cares about how you are doing. He has been my one year old's pediatrician since she was born. He is the only doctor who has taken the time to sit down and talk to me about any question have about Eden. I feel like he is one of the other midwives at Swedish with how attentive he is to us! Me, my husband, and Eden will be going to him for care forever unless we move out of state! He is also very accepting of people who want to take a slower approach to vaccines or does not want to vaccinate at all. He is very open minded. I highly recommend this doc!! read more

My 15 month old has seen Dr. Johansson from birth and he's always taken excellent care of her. When I was hesitant about vaccinating, he came up with great alternative schedule and he's always been open to us asking questions. He has excellent bedside manner and is great with kids. I would (and have) highly recommend him, read more

Dr. Johansson is awesome. He has been my pediatrician since I had my daughter in Feb. 07, and has now become our family practicioner. I like him because he won't BS you about things and he will actually spend time with you to answer questions. He is also not one of those doctors that throws a prescription at you and sends you on your way. His approach is practical and not "preachy". He's great with kids, and always makes time to call you back right away if you're concerned about something, but you're not sure if you need to make an appointment. read more

Hopefully Jennifer P. wont discourage anyone from trying this wonderful doctor! I have had a number of doctors in my life and Dr. Johansson is by far the most compassionate, and intelligent. I am able to get an appt. whenever I need it. No waiting weeks of months like some practices I've been involved with. I feel the best way to describe him is as a "non-alarmist" He is very thorough in his practices and his conversations with his patients. he is very conservative in his treatments and distribution of antibiotics, which I find refreshing. I have recommended numerous patients to him and he is the doctor to my entire family of 5. Out of all of these people, about 15 in all, I have never heard one complaint or anything close to the experience this one women has had. In fact the adjective sexist made me laugh out loud. Women, see for yourselves, you won't be sorry. read more

As an inpatient pediatric nurse (through 2012) I worked with many amazing pediatricians and family practice doctors (and a few that were less impressive). I've always valued wait times over quality providers, but with my firstborn on the way I suddenly care a lot. After a few hours of internet research on pediatricians in my neighborhood I felt discouraged. It is so hard to choose a physician from the internet. Then a lightbulb went off: Dr. Johansson! I have such respect for the way he cares for patients: wise medical decisions, excellent patient education, calm listening. I love the things he says about his patients behind closed doors (he always speaks highly of every patient... even the notoriously "crazy" ones). I love the way he treats the nursing staff: when I was new he took time to teach me so that I would learn, and so that his patients would be guaranteed safe care. I love the way he adores his wife and children. Great doctor, great role model. I have a few adult friends who see him for primary care and have only wonderful things to say about him. I hope this helps any parents (or adult patients that care) to trust that Dr J is a great choice. read more

This doctor is a business man. That is his main concern. To make money off of you! Why would a doctor prescribe a med that isn't covered by your insurance? Especially a med as common as a muscle relaxer! To meet his cuota with the pharmaceutical?!Very disappointed by his manner and his lack of follow through! He needs a dose of reality! FYI: don't tell your patient to call you later bc you are in a soccer game! It's insensitive and ridiculous. If you can't follow through with the call, don't answer it! Also disappointed with his office staff. Forgetting to put pain meds through to the pharmacy and taking their sweet time to return calls and put referrals through with no apology! Unnecessary and negligent. read more

We chose Dr. Johansson as our son's pediatrician because he came recommended from the Swedish Covenant midwife team, and we needed to pick someone within the Swedish Covenant system for our son's birth. It's clear Dr. Johansson is a good doctor if you can actually get his full attention. We, unfortunately, did not. Our first appointment was cancelled a few days before, but we didn't learn this until we arrived at his office the morning of the appointment. (It was blamed on a miscommunication on part of the midwife team.) Our next two appointments began a half-hour and an hour late, respectively. In what turned out to be our final appointment, he misdiagnosed our son's tongue tie and an infection my wife had developed after giving birth. By that point, we realized we weren't getting the care we needed, and sought second opinions elsewhere. We've since switched physicians, and are getting the care our family needs. read more

Trust myself and my family to this man for several years now. He has been there for us, coming in early in the morning, fitting us in just before he has to leave town (just a most recent example of his dedication...) He is truly a genuine, sincere and caring doctor, cannot conceive how anyone could possibly see him otherwise. Am aware that he is not as willing as other docs to prescribe medications but i will not hold that against him - most of us have abused our bodies and destroyed our immune systems by overuse of antibiotics. If you want a good 'old school' doc, Dr J. is your man. If you want someone to comfort you and send you off with a stack of prescriptions then look elsewhere! read more

Dr. Johansson is one of the best doctors I have ever met. I had great time learning from him during my medical career. He is not only very knowledgeable in many fields of medicine but also always is very kind and respectful towards patients. He definitely spends more time with patients than I expected. I have never met a patient who would not express kind words about Dr. Johansson. He is very much liked by other physicians, residents and medical students. I would highly recommend him. read more

I have seen Dr. Johansson for 2 years. I have had a few medical conditions including one that now requires a CPAP machine. I have had a bad elbow for 4 months and could no longer tolerate it......Dr.Johansson took the time to figure out the problem which was TENNIS ELBOW. He reccommended a treatment of Steroid/Cortizone shot right in the injury. It worked ...Wow....i thought I would have to go see every specialist an so on.....Keep up the great job. J Hicks read more

I can't speak to the negative reviews, since I've only had great experiences with Doc. Johansson over the last 4 years. We went to him as a pede when our son was born and then I switched to him myself because I liked him so much. My wife is not crunchy-granola, but she is into attachment parenting/alternative vaccination schedules/drugs & antibiotics-only-when-necessary and wanted someone who would be respectful of that. He is. My son had a hereditary blood condition and Dr. J set us up with a hemotologist on a non-emergency basis so we wouldn't be meeting them in a crisis situation. His pro-active approach was not only thoughtful, but ended up avoiding a major crash for our son when the hemotologist ran some baseline tests in that meet-n-greet. My wife and I ask tons of questions and not once has he been condescending or rushed us. In 4 years, we've only been kept waiting once and that was when he got caught up in an emergency at the hospital. He's accessible by phone and has Saturday hours. Back when swine flu was new and almost no one had vaccinations in supply, he literally ran all around the hospital and professional building to scrounge up a vaccination for my at-risk pregnant wife who had been exposed to it by my son. Seriously above and beyond the call of duty, and it kept my wife from getting it, which could have been very serious for our unborn daughter. (I got it and my son & I spent a miserable week together in quarantine away from her.) read more
