He has been my Dr. since I was a kid, but I've noticed as I've grown older, the office performance has drastically declined. My last visit I sat for about 2 hours waiting in a room with 2 others. That room of 2 and me, eventually came down to just me waiting for the last 45 minutes of the 2 hours total. I sat in the room waiting for the Dr. another 30 minutes, totaling to 2 hours and 30 minutes just for a physical. I usually have to wait 30 minutes to an hour for the receptionist answer my call just to make an appointment. I'd say if you have kids, they're great at 1st, but eventually you'll need to find another Dr. that respects your time more. Like I said, he's good with kids, but neglectful with adults. Don't know why adults get treated worse than kids, but just find another Dr. He's been mine most of my life and I am unsatisfied. read more

When my employer switched insurance plan which meant that I had to search for a new doctor and everything that goes with switching of insurance. After doing researching on various doctors and the hospitals they are affiliated with, I decided on Dr. Murphy. I was able to make an appointment via phone for a yearly physical. The receptionist was very pleasant. Luckily, I was able to have an appointment the next morning. She had advised me about what I need to prepare for the examination. The office is very convenient since the location is on several bus lines stop and offers parking. The office is very basic. The check-in was very routine. The wait for the doctor was minimal. After being taken into one of the examining rooms, the RN took to vitals. About 15 minutes later, Dr. Murphy entered the room. He was very engaging before he had reviewed my past history. From there, the exam started. About 30 minutes, I was done. Dr. Murphy followed up with me couple of days regarding the results. After the results, he wanted to know if there's any concerns or questions. I had few other questions regarding other shots that were past due.... nothing urgent. I have scheduled another appointment via the Amita Healthcare's website which is very user friendly. So far, I would recommend Dr. Murphy. read more

Dr. Murphy was recommended to me by my OBGYN, who is with Presence Health. I love my OBGYN and have been seeing her for years, so I trusted her recommendation. Big mistake. I came to Dr. Murphy because I'd had a sore throat for *months*. I had been treated for strep, tried OTC and home remedies, and nothing was helping. I was about to lose my health insurance and I was scared--I wanted to get it taken care of before the end of the month or at least know if it was nothing to worry about. I don't know if this is because I am a young woman or what, but Dr. Murphy completely ignored everything I said to him. He was dismissive and didn't concern himself with my throat issues, focusing instead on my slightly elevated blood pressure (I have a history of "white coat" syndrome which was worsened by his terrible bedside manner). He told me to come back in a few weeks if my throat still hurt. I explained that the few weeks were already past--I had been in pain for months and was scared. What if this was something serious? Still he dismissed me. Later that week, I went to the Walgreens clinic down the street. The healthcare associate there, who is not a doctor, actually listened to me and showed concern. She figured out that my throat issues could be from acid reflux and recommended an OTC to help along with some preventative practices. Turns out she was right--after following her advice my throat was better immediately. This was a simple fix that she was able to spot simply by *listening* to me. Dr. Murphy, try listening to your patients when they're in pain and scared. This was solved by a Walgreens clinic associate in five minutes, when after waiting in your office for 2 hours all I got was a wave goodbye. read more

Dr. Murphy has been my doctor since my son was born, yes 31 years ago!!! Having a primary care physician is about building relationship, building trust and having the one go to for your medical needs - he's a phenomenal physician who wholeheartedly cares for his patients. In moments when I needed urgent care, Dr. Murphy always managed to accommodate me regardless of his filled schedule. Needless to say, he doesn't believe in feeding his patients with unnecessary medication, which is greatly appreciated. Now that he has switched to Advocate Medical Group, I will certainly follow him there. read more

Quite dismissive of my concerns and very rude. He also does not reach out to clients in a timely manner and is very difficult to contact.

Immediately cancelled my follow up appointment after this horrible first time visit. He was very dismissive to my concerns, declined to put me on a new med for my diabetes, after I expressed to him that my current medication used alone and not in conjunction with anything else simply does not work. One of my former diabetes meds is no longer covered under my insurance, instead of being gracious and attempting to assist me, he states, BCBS is just like the ACA, and people that work for BCBS are lucky they have a GED. Dr. Murphy, if you do not want to accept BCBS, then don't accept it. It's that simple. Do not take it out on the patient. Finish your contract with your chosen insurance carriers, then promptly decline any further dealings with insurance companies you choose not to. Simple. I will be contacting my insurance company and lodging a complaint against Dr Murphy. I will say that his nurse was very good. Office staff was decent. Off to find another provider.... read more

Doctor Murphy was recommended to me by my brother who unfortunately passed away a year ago. (I'll get to that later). I was actually looking forward to seeing him since I had heard nice things but I had a few hesitations due to all of the medications he had my brother on. Eight to be exact. Granted, my brother had several issues, but it just seemed like he was put on the "pharmaceutical conveyor belt" since he had insurance. He became a walking zombie and died less than a year later due to all of the medications and complications. I recall hearing that Dr Murphy showed little concern over the amount of medications my brother was on. Despite my hesitations, I decided to move forward and make an appointment with Dr Murphy for just a routine wellness exam. I would have been a new patient. Well, my hesitations must have been right because what I experienced while trying to make an appointment was downright shocking and unprofessional! I called right after they re-opened after lunch (1:00 PM) which might have been my first mistake. I reached Angela B. (There are two Angela's so I want to be clear) and it was obvious by her demeanor that she was either having a rough day or was overwhelmed by phone calls from others calling in. I set up an appointment but she was immediately impatient when I asked some questions and even put me on hold a time or two to answer other calls and put them on hold. My cell phone reception was very poor at the time so I had a hard time understanding her. When I repeatedly said I couldn't quite understand she abruptly said, "Sir, are you okay?". A little off put by her reaction I responded, "I beg your pardon?". She rudely said are you okay because you seem to be getting excited. I said, I'm sorry, my phone reception was bad. She then said, "look, I have two people on hold and I don't have time for this." I did ask her the same question she asked me... "Are you okay, because it seems like you are the one a little excited." At this point I found the unprofessionalism very unsettling and said, I think I may look for another physicians office. Her response was, "that sounds like a good idea" and hung up on me. I called back and spoke to another receptionist who was the complete opposite! We will just call her the nice Angela. She was very professional, pleasant and happily helped me and answered my questions. I wanted to confirm that my appointment was set up and it was in fact removed! She tried to set up a new appointment for me but was not able to because Angela B blocked the ability to set an appointment for me. A manager was not available to speak to because I was told she was on leave. I was given the managers info and most certainly will be following up when she returns! If this is how clients are treated by the front house staff, then there is no way I would ever want to be a patient. It was a sign that I should have listened to my gut and followed my hesitations. *Note to doctors and management. You may want to offer some sensitivity training to your employee, Angela B, because I'm sure I will not be the only client you will lose due to her unprofessionalism. read more

He is a very nice doctor, punctual, friendly, and has a staff that represents those qualities. He has been treating me for about a decade now and has helped me out when family members visiting from out of town needed care. His office is clean and is located in a nice building in a great location. I have been fortunate enough to not have any life threatening illnesses, but still see him once a year. He has been an all around good family doctor and I've recommended him to my children and to my friends. read more

Quite possibly the rudest doctor I've ever visited. If you need to choose a doctor for primary care with your HMO, avoid Dr. Kevin Murphy and you'll be much happier. On the HMO note...If your company gives you an option between an HMO and a PPO, go with the PPO(it's worth the few extra dollars for more options and less headache). read more

I wish there was a way to give no stars at all. I have never had a more tardy, rude, disrespectful, and self-entitled doctor than Kevin Murphy. He routinely makes snarky comments that are belittling and wholly unprofessional. In my office visits he talked down to me, did his best to make me feel inferior and stupid. When he's left messages for me he's defensive and belligerent. When I've actually spoken with him on the phone he is no better. He always gives the impression that you are encroaching on his time. He actually told me once that he'd take time to "school me" on how things in his office operate. His office staff is no better. Medical professionals, especially the office assistants, nurses, etc, are not supposed to be combative and argumentative. One more than one occasion his staff has wanted to engage in arguments with me. When a person is in the waiting room, that person is to be considered a CUSTOMER. Once inside, then that person becomes the PATIENT. Both are to be treated with respect and compassion, none of which Kevin Murphy or his staff do. I cannot recommend Kevin Murphy. If you're considering him, do yourself a favor and keep looking. read more

I will start off by saying that Dr. Kevin Murphy is as good doctor and he makes me feel comfortable during our appointments. I cannot negate the fact that he has helped me which has improved my health. The only reason I gave him a 3 star rating is because of the communication that I am not receiving in a timely manner. Communication is very important to me in a professional setting so when it's not done properly it's concerning. I was told that the doctor would contact me by a specific time frame regarding a prescription and unfortunately I am still waiting for the call. My situation has been discussed with the medical staff, once by my surgeon's staff and the second time I contacted the staff. This has been going on within a 3 week time span. I feel that after my situation has been expressed on multiple occasions that I at least should have received a phone call by now. My situation is thankfully not life threatening, however, that is no excuse for the lack of communication. I hope moving forward it gets better. read more

I have been going to Dr. Murphy for over 18 years. He, as well as his staff, is professional and very personable. It is a great feeling when I call his office to schedule an appointment and they ask about my children and my mom by name. I never feel rushed with my visits and I never have any difficulty getting a call back from him when needed. In fact, on several occasions, when he hasn't seen or heard from myself or my family, I have received "how are things going" phone calls. His skill as a physician is exceptional. I have never needed to go else where seeking a diagnosis or alternative treatment. I have seen him during pregnancy on several occasions and he was always willing to coordinate with my OB to insure the best treatments for me and my baby.
