At the Lonsdale shop, one orders and receives a delightful smoothie of one's choosing, then walks up to the till at the front of the store to pay. Another wee difference is that this store has no seating. To compare the two shops a bit further, I found the North Van location to be a bit more laidback than the Victoria's on Hornby. I'd imagine that the Hornby shop also sees a ton more foot traffic and that, too, could make for a less relaxed atmosphere. I came for the smoothies, but for the vitamin/supplement head, this store would seem to have all you need. (If not, then there's a competing health food store just down the road & across the street.) Visitors from Vancouver: take the bus from the ferry terminal straight up the hill, or, if you're feeling particularly spunky, walk!

For someone like myself who practically refuses to go to the doctor, it's important to me that health food stores have staff who are highly knowledgeable about the products and have some naturopathic background. Often I walk into these places and it's just a random person working behind the counter who suggest things to you, because they use it and, i'm certain, don't even know why they use it. Or, I get the pushy type that suggest 7 different things I've never heard of and convince me that there is something more wrong with me than I originally thought. Once I went in for some Vitamin C and Oil of Oregano for strep throat, and I left with almost 100 bucks worth of stuff . Most of which I couldn't pronounce and had absolutely nothing to do with current cold. Luckily I now have Nutraways. They offer sound advice and recommend items only when asked. They aren't pushy and their prices are pretty decent. They also have grocery items such as beauty products, canned vegetables, cereal, grains, local honey etc. I like picking up things like barley groats, cane sugar, kefir mix and even cough drops from here. All of these items are impossible to find anywhere else. Nutraways is a must for anyone who needs some advice on both daily supplements and treatment for more life affecting ailments. Side note: They have the best Moody Bee Honey Vanilla Peppermint lip balm. It's a must have.

And for a small organic market this really tells you something about the owner. He cares about the planet!!! I always enjoy talking with Jeff about these products and just how important it is that we all use natural bio degradable soaps and cleaning products. Unless of course, you like your fish tasting like mercury :) p.s. try experimenting with just how little you need to clean your clothes, it all goes in the ocean.
