I had a recent service visit for a ceiling fan that stopped working. The technician inspected my…read morecircuit breaker panel and removed the plate on the wall switch. After that inspection he refused to continue diagnosing the problem unless I paid either for an annual membership (over $300) or a one‑time diagnostic fee (over $200). I declined, the technician called his manager, and the manager instructed him not to proceed. No fees were charged. The technician apologized that this policy was not disclosed when I scheduled the appointment. This was unprofessional and felt like a bait‑and‑switch. A diagnostic visit should not turn into a hard sell on the doorstep without clear disclosure up front. I will not use Chesapeake Electric again and I would not recommend them. They were a huge waste of time.

BLUF: Easy to schedule, friendly and communicative electrician and work performed as expected…read more I loathe hiring anyone to do anything because people are so unreliable. But frankly, I am a former DIYer who has gotten really lazy so when it came time to install a junction box and ceiling fan in a guest bedroom I called Chesapeake Electric. Phew, much to my relief, Chesapeake Electric was great to work with - scheduling the job was easy, the electrician showed up on time, he was very communicative, the work performed was great and it was easy to pay. Also, the electrician did a great job cleaning up and hauling away the trash from the ceiling fan. It feels good to finally have a ceiling fan in our guest bedroom and to have a reliable electrician in our contacts.

Super nice scammer. Kent Island Electric was a subcontractor…read moreto an addition. The sole worker was the owner Harry Langway who is really nice and his work passed inspection. Then his true colours came out. He claimed the contractor did not pay him because I did not pay the bill and he was filing against me. It was proven to Mr. Langway that $5k had been paid to the GC before it was due for the explicit purpose of paying the electrician. Mr. Langway was all friendly saying the contractor was terrible and at fault, and then he filed a Mechanics Lien of $4k against me. He stated he needed the money to pay bills. He played the pity card and it worked. Since I could not pay him directly as that would be giving money away, I decided to let the case go to court so that I would have documented proof from the courts that the Gen Contractor had not paid Mr. Langway. Since Mr. Langway stated the lack of payment was causing him financial difficulties an initial good faith payment on the Mechanics Lien of $800 was sent to him and immediately deposited. The case went through no contest, total amount awarded of $4k +$74 fees. Mr. Langway came to the house to collect the remaining $3274 after the initial $800, and said it was not enough. The $800 did not count and the full judgement had to be paid. At this point I realized the super nice Harry Langway was scamming me. Being a disabled vet alone in my house with someone def. stronger than me, a check was given to him for $4074 so he would leave. He was told it would take a week to borrow the money so do not cash it yet. He left and tried to cash it, no good for him. Trying to put an end to the game and pay the remaining $3274 I paid for a courier to deliver a cashier check. He realized it was from me and rejected it again. One would think if he was legit in his claim of more being owed he would take the money offered and still say more was owed, here is the proof. But he realized I would have proof he had been paid the full court amount, and he could not attempt to claim I owed him interest. I could finally see he is a professional in this game. Enough was enough, I emailed the business that I was filing a motion against the judgement, and I provided the reasons the court would see his scam. All professional and courteous with details so he would be prepared with what I was going to present at court. He responded back that "This is cyber bullying." Um, trying to inform him of what is happening on a legal level is cyber bullying how? Oh, he is trying to make me look like a bad guy. I am looking forward to court this time. I made a point of most all communication being via text or email so there is a great deal of documentation to prove the game he is playing. But confidence can be a killer, and I realize now this guy is a pro, so everything will be documented and very publicly shared. So based on my interactions with him, Harry Langway presents as just a really great guy, down to earth, the type you want to meet for a drink and laugh about the day. But if a snake oil salesman does not seem great and trustworthy, he won't make any sales. If you douse him, don't fall for the friendly, and try to make most communication trackable via text or email.

I explained the job to the two techs that came out and they were super receptive and professional. We discussed the job and options were great. Then I was quoted a job that was assessed at greater than my houses square footage with a job that was not at all what we discussed. I understand being careful and thorough, but I felt like I went to a Toyota dealership and was only quoted Maserati prices. Inquired regarding modifications to the quote and the answer I was given was "this is why my boss told me to tell you". I called another company who is a master electrician and is doing the job they quoted me 12k for 3k. I was bummed because electric is something I want done right and was hoping to give this local company business but will never recommend them.
