Choosing a hair and makeup artist in unfamiliar territory from across the country was one of the scariest wedding tasks I had to do. Though I had spent many summers living in Newport, I always had my hair done in Connecticut, therefore never establishing a relationship with a Rhode Island hair stylist. And, since I was living in Arizona while planning my wedding, it wasn't easy to jet back and forth for trials. Based off of reviews on Yelp and WeddingWire, I chose Wedding Tresses. Their estimate was not outrageous and they were flexible to come do everyone's hair and makeup in the hotel suite that the bridal party was getting ready in. As a person that doesn't regularly wear a lot of makeup (mascara & blush on the daily if I'm lucky), I was worried about having too much put on. My makeup artist kept it as light as possible (wedding pictures call for more makeup than I'd ever used), and I loved how she made me look. I absolutely loved my hair too. I truly regret hiring Wedding Tresses. They were the sole source of stress on my otherwise unstressful wedding day. The biggest problem was the makeup artist, who was extremely rude, unprofessional, rushed, and unskilled. Most of my bridesmaids ended up removing the makeup she put on, as did I. I have been trying for over a month now (unsuccessfully) to get a response from Jacki, the owner of Wedding Tresses, about how terrible of an experience this was. She has been completely unresponsive. Highlights of the evening: 1) Without warning, the makeup artist was NOT the one who did my trial, nor did she have the notes from the trial (for which I paid a lot of money!). 2) The makeup artist had a serious attitude and immediately upon arrival started bossing people around. 3) She made nasty comments towards my bridesmaids, mother, and grandmother. 4) She did a bad job on almost everyone's makeup, and they had to redo it themselves. 5) I, the bride, was given exactly 15 minutes of her time (I was supposed to have an hour), and when I wasn't happy with the results, she said in a clearly upset voice, "Are you telling me I have to start all over again?!" 6) She left without notifying us or giving us a chance to get touchups and was overheard saying to the hair artist "I'm going to leave before anyone asks me to do anything else". Looking at the other reviews posted here, it's clear that sometimes Wedding Tresses has done a good job, and sometimes they have not. We had a horrible experience with Wedding Tresses at my friend's wedding. The makeup artist was incredibly rude to nearly everyone in the room, especially the bride who was in tears on her wedding day due to the manner of the mua, the lack of professionalism, and the poor output quality of makeup. She ended up taking off the makeup applied since it was so poorly done. All in all, not a day of pampering but unwarranted stress. And expensive. There are many other options! read more

My friend just got married this past Saturday, and Jacki did her hair/makeup at the house while the maid of honor and I had ours done at a salon nearby. Not only did she make my friend look AMAZING (almost brought me to tears when I saw her), but she also touched up both my hair AND the maid of honor's hair. The salon did a decent job on us, but in both cases it was rough around the edges and we weren't really satisfied. Jacki saved me from almost undoing the whole thing! Wedding Tresses provided me with worst experience of my wedding planning process. I ended up terminating my contract with them and paying the full amount as their contract demands this. Wedding Tresses was recommended to me by two people. Both had, had their makeup/hair done by Jacki when she was first starting out..read-when she may have cared more about her customers. Because I reached out to work with the company so far ahead of time before my wedding they suggested I sign a contract and do my trials later. Doing this, I now realize, was not smart and an oversight on my part. Ok, here is the experience breakdown: -Hair and Makeup Trials cost $125 EACH. That's $250.00!( +tip) -My makeup trial was awful, both in experience and looks. The woman was very unfriendly to me and my mother in general. I wanted false lashes. She told me this was unnecessary and she would make my eyelashes look great. She proceeded to make them look like two clumps on each eye and then was visibly annoyed I didn't like them at all. She took the eye makeup off smearing it on my face and put some false lashes on poorly done with glue she needed to borrow from another makeup artist there. -The hair was OK and the woman who did it was sweet. -I booked a second makeup trial (which I was expected to pay another $125.00 for). The trial was set for 9am on a Sunday. At 5:45am I got a text saying the trial was cancelled and we would need to reschedule. -No one reached out to me to reschedule. I reached out to them on more than one occasion to reschedule with no response. The last of the unprofessionalism I could take. At this point I was left wondering if they would even show up for the wedding day and decided to terminate the contract. -After writing the termination email and asking for the address to send the final check Jacki left me a voicemail. She said she'd been 'meaning to call' to offer her own services for my day. Much too little, too late. Do not use Wedding Tresses and do not pay anyone $100's of dollars for trials! There are so many awesome, talented, professional vendors out there who have a bride's best interest at heart. read more

Avoid this service at ALL COSTS ... a complete scam. If you are considering hiring Jacki Norrie to be your hair and make-up artist for your big day, please take the time to read this review in order to avoid a huge and costly mistake. When I first met Jacki, it was for my trial run in February, several months before my wedding. She was not exactly punctual, but she was congenial and proved to be talented at hair and make-up. She created a gorgeous look for me as well as my mother for my wedding day, and I felt confident that things would go as planned for the big day. Boy, was I ever wrong. On the morning of my wedding, Jacki texted me with some confusion regarding the hotel room I was to be getting ready in. After a brief correspondence with her and all details straightened away, I arrived at the hotel room at 9AM only to discover two women I had never met before in my life standing in for Jacki. This was a complete surprise, as she had failed to mention in her texts only moments ago that she wasn't coming. The new hair and make-up artists claimed she wasn't coming due to circumstances beyond her control. To say that I was upset is an understatement. During the trial run (which by the way, is an entirely separate cost apart from the service and must be paid in cash ... in other words, a complete hoax), Jacki wrote down all the products and colors she had used for my make-up and had taken 360º views on her iPhone in order to replicate the look for my big day. None of this information was passed on to the other stylists. I texted Jacki again and asked her to send me the pictures she had taken of my updo. NO response. Because of all this, it took much longer to get ready and achieve the look I wanted. The new stylist didn't even have the same eye shadows I was anticipating to be used, and the only saving grace was that I had a few photos of my updo on my phone that we used as a guide to create a similar look. Getting ready on your big day should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience. This, however, was not. I was irritated and frustrated that I had been cheated, and having to reexplain and try to describe what I wanted all over again to someone new was infuriating. Why even have a trial run with someone who won't even show? Scam. On top of all this, I noticed through social media that Jacki's so called "circumstances beyond her control" was another wedding. She posted pictures on her Wedding Tresses Facebook page of another bride she had done the very same day I had booked her (7/25). Appalling and downright unprofessional. Not to mention that when the final invoice was sent to me, the initial $500 deposit to secure her for my day had not been deducted. Luckily, I was well organized and caught the mistake, but instead of apologizing, Jacki distastefully blamed a former employee of hers for the incorrect invoice. Just another made up story I'm sure. Please avoid Wedding Tresses at all costs. It will save you money and a lot of unwanted stress on the morning of your big day. read more

I recently got married and was incredibly fortunate to have Jacki do my hair and makeup. From the get-go, Jacki was an incredible professional, assuring me that she would be there on the big day and soothing my nerves. Two days before the wedding, I counted my lucky stars that Jacki agreed to work with me, because I walked into a car's side mirror and destroyed the right half of my face. None of the scratches and bumps were noticeable after Jacki was done with me - it looked flawless and yet, not caked on. This woman works miracles! In addition, she was a blast to hang out with on the day: her positivity affected everyone around her. I am not one to spend much on my appearance, but trust me, Jacki is worth every penny. My friend got married a week ago and Jacki did an incredible job making her look as gorgeous as she is. That's what's so wonderful about her - everything she did was to bring out the bride's natural beauty. When some of the other wedding party members came back from getting their hair done slightly damaged from the rain or u happy with the appearance of their hair, she took the time to really fix or redo their hair out of the honest-to-goodness kindness of her heart (she also smoothed my frizzies). I scheduled Wedding Tresses to do hair and makeup for myself and my bridesmaids for my recent wedding. I was getting married in a different state from where I live, so I didn't have time to do a trial run. Jacki didn't mind, and her reviews were excellent, so I decided to go for it. Jacki (hair) and Sam (makeup) were professional, talented, and fun. They arrived on-time for our early home appointment. My bridesmaids ranged from one who really likes makeup to one who wanted a natural look, and Sam listened to all of us and followed our requests. Jacki's hair-dos were beautiful (especially an intricate braided updo she created). What really impressed me was that when I looked in the mirror at the end of the reception, my makeup still looked fresh and my hair was in place - quite a feat after a night of dancing, eating, and drinking. Jackie of Wedding Tresses came to our house to do our daughter's hair for her special day and she did a phenomenal job. She was so easy to work with and very professional. Our daughter's hair came out exactly how she wanted it to and Jackie was able to incorporate the headpiece she had selected. Wedding Tresses did my friends wedding's hair and makeup. In my opinion they were too expensive for the treatment they gave. The bride paid $500 for services. After the bride gave a deposit the customer service went sour. She received no response from the owner before the wedding when she left voice messages, emails, and regular mail. The bride paid for a trial in which they did a great job and took pictures which they assured her they would bring on the wedding day. On the actual wedding day, the makeup lady did not bring the picture and could not remember what was agreed on. Further, they did not keep track of the time. They told the bride that she should be done last and started her almost 2 hours after she was supposed to be finished. The bride missed pictures and had her guests waiting out in the heat for 2 hours. Moreover, the mother of the bride's hair was not finished but she still had to walk down the isle with it partially done. She was in tears and the bride was in tears when she realized how late she was. The quallity of work they performed was so so. Our makeup did not really show well in pictures and our hair was ok. read more

Wedding tresses was recommended to me by 3 different people so I was really excited to work with them. Unfortunately, their customer service was so terrible in trying to get them to commit to booking my wedding that I ended up not going with them. They took over a month to get back to me when I submitted the online inquiry, and wouldn't call me back when I left a message at the salon. When they wrote me back, I responded with questions and they took ANOTHER month to get back to me; then they responded to me as if we hadn't already had a correspondence via email. When they finally did call me back, they clearly hadn't seen my online inquiry. Overall it was just really poor customer service and it made me feel like they were not going to be dependable on my wedding day. Do not let Sam do your wedding party's make up!! Jacki and Shannon the hair stylist were amazing but Sam was ridiculously unprofessional, offensive, and obnoxious. Our bride did a trial with her she wasn't completely comfortable with and requested Jacki for her wedding day. The moment Sam showed up for the day she went straight to the bride and " thanked" her for how sweetly she fired her and thanked her for still thinking she was good enough for the rest of the party. She also told a bridesmaid that she wasn't doing 2 of the other people's make up because "they were difficult too" she then went on for 10 minutes about her health history and trash talked her most recent wedding for how awful they were and how they all hated everything she did. She argued with every one's make up choice and fought with the mother of the groom about her choice being too dark. She then purposely made her eyes totally different from the photo which the mother didn't like and literally said "i told you so..." What she did looked nothing at all like the picture and she fought with everyone in the room about it. It couldn't have been more obvious that she purposely messed it up to prove a point. She made the entire party uncomfortable the entire time. Jacki and Shannon were great, the hair for everyone was absolutely amazing, just make sure you don't get Sam. read more
