I have only taken a few classes from them so far, but I like the bright and cheery lobby and the clean and spacious studio spaces (one up friendly stairs that are not too steep). I have enjoyed the Restorative Yoga and the Gentle Yoga classes, and leave feeling like I have had a massage! The teachers I have met have been very welcoming and kind, and passionate about supporting their students' yoga journey. It's 1-1/2 hours and suited just perfectly to my lazy ass, since you spend a good amount of time meditating or laying on the ground LOL. The Holistic class does have some great asanas so you get a workout but the best part was the chanting and meditation. Nicole is knowledgeable and funny too. Plus she has a mini-harmonium so she gives you a great drone to chant to. Nothing like real sound vibrations from a real instrument, as I always say!

I normally watch the clock toward the end but I didn't feel like I needed to for this class, just reverted to child's pose when it felt like too much. It was ~$20 for a class which wasn't too bad. The only thing is it's all the way in El Cerrito which is a little too far for my liking. Anywhere further than my gym is a no-go for regular classes. My only exception is tennis (: but I digress, it's a good class and I recommend if you happen to be in the area.

Just being able to move my body with instructors that cater to your own individual way your body feels to you instead of rigid "this is the way it's supposed to be" type of practice is my kinda yoga practice! Been doing this for a year and a half now and I feel like a new man after every session with Chris S. He has a soothing voice, expert instruction boundless patience. I have to tell you last time I did this and then played golf, I was 9 over par with a double bogey (cause my cart partner lost my ball and I had to take two strokes). Aka I was so loose fluid and smooth, I looked liked Freddie Couples out there! The dojo is getting popular and the classes initially 17-20 now 25-30 folks, mostly our vintage, stretching those limbs, using the core, working on the breathing. A full one hour session that each time works on different parts of your body. Chris and wife team Ellen say "wow, we noticed your curve in the spine is so much better in your sucassena." Using bolsters, ropes and gravity, we work it to our limits. Folks are getting there earlier as parking in PT Richmond gets hairy that time of morning. I feel like a million bucks after each session!!

I loved the mix of conversation/support, meditation and yoga. If you're looking for a more vigorous practice, this might not be your cup of tea, but for me it was perfect. As someone who was fairly new to the area at the time and in need of a community of new mothers, I really appreciated Jessica's connections. If you need anything -- massage, acupuncture, a midwife, etc. -- she knows someone or several someones. She is also a great listener, a kind voice of support and extremely knowledgeable about pregnancy, birth and parenting. A lovely person to know!
