As other reviewers have stated, their prices are incredibly high. Expect 30-40% markup on parts and absolutely RIDICULOUS labor charges. My recent visit there quoted $1,500 in labor charges that "could be completed today". They were all minor work that likely would have taken a couple of hours tops. They did manage to "get me" though by charging me for a small replacement part that I did not approve. Oh well, just another place not to go to again. True, Trish is very friendly and told me about her father, how she took over the business, etc. I told her I wanted to support a small business rather than a dealership, where I usually took my car. Similar stories from other reviewers...After my standard oil change, I was handed a $3k quote for "needed" work done! I'm always diligent on maintenance for my car. I initially had a good experience at Wayne's (oil change). I appreciated the in-depth inspection that was provided, but was surprised at how much work had been recommended on my car. My previous mechanic was not a salesman; during my last visit with him, he hadn't brought up any of the issues that were presented at Wayne's, so I was startled to receive an estimate totaling over $1,000. I use my car often for work; I transport adults with disabilities and was willing to spend the money if the work was necessary. I assumed trust so scheduled an appointment to have all of the recommended work done. Wayne discovered other issues with the car during service and my total cost came to over $1,600. Not knowing much about cars, Wayne was happy to show me what issues he discovered and why the total was so much. I'm not sure if prices were comparable. I left feeling as though my car was "in good shape," and was told that it would be a while before I would have to do other maintenance other than regular oil changes. This was in April 2017. I scheduled an appointment not long after to have new tires placed on my car. I keep a pretty busy schedule at work and drive people to medical appointments, so asked (multiple times) before the appointment how long they would need to keep the car for. I was told that service would be no longer than an hour, so stayed in their waiting area. Service actually took 2 and 1/2 hours. This was frustrating because people depend on me for transportation - to medical appointments, to work, etc... - and if I had known that I would need to be out longer I would have rearranged my schedule prior. Immediately after having my tires changed, I noticed throughout the day that my TPMS light blinked on and off. I searched online and saw that it was possible that it was just "adjusting" to the new tires. It wasn't fixed by the next morning (I was starting a road trip to Buffalo, NY) and I decided to pull over during the trip and have another repair shop check to see if there was an issue/if it was safe to drive. My tire pressure was normal. I called Trish and explained what the issue was and she said that I needed to reset the TPMS manually - I didn't know how to and she said that I could "Google it." She offered this without any apology and without any follow up. While searching I read that most often when a TPMS light malfunctions the day that a mechanic replaces tires, the mechanic has most probably damaged the TPMS sensor. Also, it isn't possible for me to reset the TPMS sensor manually. When I came back to town I called again and scheduled an appointment for an oil change and for service for my TPMS sensor. I scheduled an appointment for today at 8AM. I asked how long it would take and was told that it would be an hour and a half. I decided to go home (I live under 5 minutes away). Trish said that she had no one available to offer me a ride home (something she had told me that they offered in the past). I understand that things happen so I took a Lyft. By 10AM I had not yet received a call, yet had already expressed to Trish that I was hoping to head into work immediately after the 1 and 1/2 service time estimate. I took a Lyft back to Wayne's. When I got there at 10:05AM, I saw that my car was ready. However, there was no one there to check me out. A mechanic came in and said that Trish had "stepped out." I waited for another 40 minutes when Trish returned with other customers who (it seemed) she had transported to Wayne's. That's great, except I was told that she had no one available. Trish said that they had performed a diagnostic on the TPMS sensor and that I indeed did need a new one. I already knew that. She also said that she wouldn't be able to tell if they were responsible for it until they had gotten a chance to take a look. I reiterated that it had malfunctioned the day that they had changed my tires. She again said that still, the TPMS sensor could have just reached the end of its life. I asked if it seemed more likely that this was not the case, considering that this was an issue only exactly after they had changed my tires. She seemed to reluctantly say that she would put the TPMS sensor under the warranty for next time. Also, of course, included with this visit was another estimate of work totaling $1,100. I wanted to love Wayne's because my friends recommended me (I don't discredit the good experience that they have had). I've experienced, too often, a lack of respect for my time. Also, from a customer service perspective, if you offer discounts (AAA), make it your responsibility to ask your customer if they are a member. I forgot to present my card this past time around and so did not receive the discount even though I have presented the card in the past. Also, I have zero interest in fighting to make my case over something as obvious as the issue with my TPMS sensor. And, if I have to take a Lyft, yet you are offering rides to other customers, what gives? read more

We've had good experiences at Wayne's in the past but our perspective on their honesty has soured. I would like to note that the employees in the front office are incredibly nice and just doing their jobs. My wife uses our secondary car strictly for work and times have been extremely tough during the pandemic, especially with 2 children under 3. I called up Wayne's and asked for the absolute bare minimum to be done to pass inspection. They came back to me with a minimum of $2700 worth of work. Not knowing much about cars, going here in the past and with my wife's safety in mind, we relented. After keeping the car over the weekend, they called to say that in fact there was one more item needing fixing (rear bearings) that would need to be addressed before it could possibly ever pass inspection. They claimed they were "screaming" loud and it would cost an additional $1,000 bringing the total up to $3,700. At this point, I couldn't imagine that we needed to pour 4k into a 2012 Subaru Forestor with 115k miles on it just to be driveable. I went and picked up my car, paid the $2,700 for the work that had already been done and decided to get a 2nd opinion. Not only would the bearings not cost $1,000 to be replaced, they didn't need to be replaced yet and they didn't need to be replaced to pass inspection. Within a few hours, another auto body had my car back to me inspected with no issues. He informed me that their prices were incredibly high and some of the other repairs they deemed necessary for inspection were in fact, not. I hate writing bad reviews, and I truly valuable small businesses, but me and my family were gouged just as we were hoping to have enough money to give our children a decent summer in the waning days of the pandemic. Very Very overpriced. Parts and labor are doubled of what you would pay in going to another Machanic shop. They tried to charge me $777 for replacing wheel bearing for both sides that came up to 1400$. Rear pads and rotors and left side caliber was $1015 plus tax. Changing spark plugs damn near $700. This is the best mechanic shop I've ever been to. First of all, they could clearly tell I knew nothing about cars but didn't try to gouge me, and they explain things to you very clearly, in non-mechanic terms, when you don't understand them. Beyond that though, I brought in my car when a check engine light came on, and they said, "Oh, we'll just have a look." And they had an entire check of my car done in 20 minutes, and came back and told me that I had to check my emissions, but I could get that done in a while, and I had to go to a dealership. I went to pay and they refused to accept money because they insisted that they didn't do anything. They're also very polite, and there's one quiet TV playing in the corner, so if you need to get work done or read, you can do that too. read more

I need to let off some steam. I looked for a car mechanic a few years ago and decided on Wayne's because of their seemingly high recommendations on yelp (check out the filtered reviews). Wayne seems very nice, but his staff can be condescending and passive aggressive at times, and I really want to support a family run business but I'm tired of always feeling punched in the stomach after taking the cars in. I get it - I have a 2000 Camry: it's an old car and it has old car problems, and could use some help now and then. But it really seems that every time I go in, for something simple like an oil change, I get recommended $2000+ repairs. That's barely the worth of my car! This time, I got the complimentary service check that recommended $4000+ on my car! I mean, come on. Are all those necessary? It's like going to a doctor who'll check every lab possible and do a full body scan ad tell you a whole list of things that you have to fix. I don't know ... I'm frustrated at their ongoing ridiculous quotes and I'm frustrated at their attitude. Michelle sneaks in some major condescending remarks behind that smile. I don't need to feel worse, after you've already given me that enormous quote! Those little coupons for $10 or a free oil change after 4 are going in the trash - not worth it. I'm going to keep my business with East Side - they are reasonable, reliable, honest, and respectful. The people at Wayne's are down to earth and very friendly. They're willing to explain things to you and it seems like they're truly looking out for your best interest. They're honest with you about what needs to be done with your car and if it's urgent or if it can wait. I've been there twice and I've loved my experience. When I read all of the marvelous reviews on Yelp about Wayne's Service Plus, I was naturally a little skeptical - it seemed too good to be true - but I made the call nonetheless, and booked an appointment for a complete brake job. From the moment I walked through the door of Wayne's Service Plus, I felt instantly comfortable and confident. These folks know what they're doing, and, of equal importance, they are incredible professionals. When I met Trish and Michelle, the service manager and service consultant, THEY BOTH SHOOK MY HAND AND LOOKED ME STRAIGHT IN THE EYE! When, in this day and age, do you encounter that??? I work in corporate marketing communications, and some white collar professionals don't possess the business skills that I encountered upon entering Wayne's. Michelle entered all of my information into the system, asked me great questions about what I had experienced with my car, and then explained to me their diagnostic process. I signed the work order and was prepared to work from their comfortable waiting area, complete with beverage service and WiFi. They brought my vehicle right in, and let me know that I had let things go too far, in terms of the brake condition. It would be a comprehensive brake replacement, which wasn't a shock to me. I pulled into their lot, braking metal on metal. Michelle and Trish suggested that I might want to consider a one-day rental, which made total sense to me. Within ten minutes, they had a Hertz rental agent on-site, with a nice, clean car for me, at a preferred rate for Wayne's customers. INCREDIBLE! I had never before experienced such convenience from an automotive service company. I signed for the car rental and was on my way. Within about an hour, I received an email from Wayne's with a comprehensive and detailed estimate of all of the work that my car needed. It was right in line with my expectations and there were no surprises. When I called to authorize the work, Trish let me know that my parking brake had needed replacement, as well. Again, no surprises, there, but what did surprise me was that Trish said she would photographically document the condition of the parking brake, so I could see for myself its unsafe condition. She did this on her own initiative. Amazing! I picked up my car, the next day, and, sure enough, Trish showed me the pictures of what my poor, old e-brake looked like before the repair. They collected the keys to my rental car, I paid for my repair, and Trish shook my hand and said to me, "Thank you for your business and for trusting us." I was absolutely blown away by that. Who does that, nowadays!?! What an incredible professional! It's been a couple of weeks since my experience at Wayne's, and, thankfully, everything has been great. My brakes are perfect, and I couldn't be happier. Additionally, I am relieved to have found an amazing, trusted resource for all of my future automotive repair needs. Wayne's is a good, honorable, auto repair shop in the sea of untrustworthy, inept mechanics. It's a small place (3 bays and a minuscule waiting area) but the staff are all very knowledgeable and do a great job of educating you about your car and what may (or may not) be wrong with it. When repairs are required, they tell you first, and then explain the price and how soon you should get the issues fixed. They also will mail you coupons for various routine services (oil change, tune-up). Why do I think Wayne's is a great place to take your car? Here's a story to illustrate my point: I called Wayne's to schedule an appointment to have my car's alignment checked. Wayne asked me why I thought I needed that done. I told him that when I tried the "straight line" test on the highway, that the car was veering to the right. Wayne then said that yes, it could be an alignment problem, but that I could also just need some air in my tires. He told me to stop by at lunch time and he'd look at it. Sure enough, all I needed was air - which was completely free. The labor prices at Wayne's aren't at a super discount, but it's cheaper than a dealership. The only drawback is that they don't offer evening or Saturday hours. However, if you work/live in Providence, they will provide you with a ride in the morning when you drop your car off. read more

After living 8 years in Providence, I've finally found a mechanic I trust! Sadly, I will be moving to DC next month, but I made sure to bring my car in one last time for an oil change. Wayne and the rest of his staff are all very friendly and courteous, and you never feel like you're being cheated. Their prices are fair, and they won't recommend unnecessary repairs. If you live or work near the shop, they also offer free pick-up or drop-off. Last year, I brought my car in because of a strange scraping noise coming from my front right tire. They took it out for a test drive, brought it back to the garage, and found a loose panel, which they fixed all within 15 minutes. And best of all, no charge! There have been a couple of times when during a routine check while getting oil changed, a few problems have come up. Each time, they called, explained the problem, and gave their professional assessment of what should be done before starting any work. Bringing my Honda Element in for service at Wayne's was a great experience. They know Hondas and did an a bang up job. Customer service was excellent. They kept me in the loop, called my cell to discuss things, and were clear in their descriptions. They nailed the main reason I brought it in, a rattle from the rear-undercarriage, which turned out to be the sway bar bushings. Now, not a peep! Fast turn around, good prices...but they did two things that really put them over the top: 1. They detailed the inside of my car. I drive an Element, its a beach and gear car for me, which means it was full of sand, leaves, etc. The inside was shining and spotless when I got it back. This may have a limited-time, special bonus type thing...so I'm not saying its going to happen for you. 2. There was a minor issue with one of the things they did and they really took care of me...totally made it right. That I'd say, you can expect from them. Anyways, I'll be going back. Trish is really nice but their prices are outrageous. She quoted me $6,000 for an engine job I am having another shop do for $1,500. I brought my car there for a blown head gasket and they tried to tell me a boat load of other stuff was wrong with my car. My suggestion to improve service would be to provide accurate quotes. If a part fails that you installed, do not charge labor to replace a defective part. Specialists in Honda, Acura and hybrid cars! I called on Monday to bring in my 2007 Civic Hybrid for an oil change, and even from that moment, I knew I would love this place. The person on the phone told me exactly how much it would cost, what other services they would provide and generally what to expect when I came in on Wednesday morning. When I got there, I was reminded about what to expect, and I was also given updates on when they would get started with my car, when they would be finished, etc. So the aspect of their service I was most impressed by was their excellent, excellent communication. Michelle, at the front desk, kept me informed every step of the way. That's what made it easy to trust what they say, even when they strongly recommended that I replace my almost-dead battery. They also gave me an estimate of services that they highly recommend I do in the next oil change or two to extend the life of my car and tires (rods, brake pads, etc.). I was surprised that the total was over $8k, but Michelle took her time to explain everything and told me and didn't push me to have it done that day. At the end of my service, I was handed a AAA survey card to fill out if I wanted (they are AAA approved) and of course I marked "excellent" for everything. But I was glad to see this kind of accountability with a larger organization, further solidifying my trust in this business. Tips: - They offer FREE pick-up and drop-off service! I've never been to a better mechanic! As a college-aged girl who doesn't know much about cars, I'm always wary about being taken advantage of at mechanics- they could say almost anything and it'd be difficult for me to know that it was dishonest. I've had only the best experiences at Wayne's and have recommended it to several friends who have also had great experiences. The first time I went, the check engine light was on and I didn't know what was wrong- they spent about half an hour checking everything and realized it was a really quick fix- something was partially unscrewed- and didn't even charge me! I was expecting to have to spend a bit to get it fixed and was so pleasantly surprised that I've sent three other friends to get big projects done. The staff are unfailingly pleasant and communicative- a big plus when dealing with a subject that is unfamiliar to many of us. When my friend brought her car in for a big repair, they called her regularly with updates, which was much appreciated. Highly recommend you check them out! read more

DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE EVER! I took my car there and they did a pre-inspection. They gave me an estimate of over $1300.00 of work that urgently needed to be done. Including my rear brakes fluid needed to be flushed corrosion needed to be cleaned and my emergency brake needed to be adjusted. I had my brakes done not 6 months ago. I took my car to a trusted family mechanic today and had him look over the whole car especially everything listed in the estimate. He just called me there is NOTHING wrong with my car. Not a damn thing. My car passed the state inspection with no problems at all something they told me it would not do. They are crooked and out to take advantage of people. I only gave them 1 star because it doesn't let you give no stars. If I could I would give negative stars. read more

After doing some research on local mechanics, we decided this would be the best place to have my girlfriend's car's front breaks done. My dealings with the staff were always pleasant. They were more than happy to call and provide an estimate before doing any work. The work was done (as best I can tell, satisfactorily) and at a reasonable cost. Now, jump forward six months. The car is making this interesting clicking type noise at low speeds. I call and they say to bring it in after lunch. Guy behind the counter says it will cost a minimum half hour service to diagnose ($40 for the half hour). I say, no problem (you have to appreciate a place being upfront). A few minutes later, I see two people take off in the car and come back after a bit. An hour total probably passes and the lady comes in tells me some shim in the front brakes shifted and caused the noise. That since they had done the front breaks, there wouldn't be any charge at all to fix it. And then they fixed it. You have to love any company that will stand behind their work without even being nudged. If I ever find myself back in the Providence area in need of a car repair, I would certainly go back. read more

After being underwhelmed by service at an unnamed shop named Monro, I took to yelp to help me find a more decent (i.e. more honest, more human) shop. The reviews for Wayne's struck me as almost "too good to be true"...and I often wonder how many places of business write their own reviews... Nonetheless, I needed to go *somewhere*, so I thought I'd give Wayne's a whirl. I don't write many reviews, so the fact that I'm even taking the time to do this right now speaks a lot to my experience so far at Wayne's ('so far' includes three separate services on two vehicles). Long story short, the service is prompt and well done; the staff is not only courteous but outright warm and friendly, helpful, honest, transparent, and complete. They didn't make a fuss when I asked them to use third-party parts to fix up an old minivan (i.e. less expensive than factory parts) - they simply explained that doing so would limit the warranty to "labor only". Fine by me in order to save $300 on a 14-year-old van. And when i brought a sick car in for some diagnosis, they spent nearly 2 hours on it even though they don't do any work on that particular make/model; but they did provide me with a list of recommendations on who to go to. Bottom line: this is the type of shop we all wish for; the type of shop that doesn't leave you wondering if you're being had. As long as I live in this area, all my cars and my only recommendation to friends and family will be pointed toward this place. read more

Very rarely do I have such an amazing customer service experience as I did today. I was told by Pep Boys that my struts needed to be replaced. I had emailed several mechanics for quotes. Wayne's was the first to respond. The young lady I spoke to had me describe the problem to her and told me it wasn't my struts, however she'd have to look at to know for sure. She offered me a free estimate if I would like to make an appointment. What was so outstanding? 1) Her ability to explain to me mechanical concepts that I did not understand 2) Her honesty, it would have been easy for her to book me for such a costly repair, and I would not known better. She was right. A friend tested my struts and they were perfectly acceptable. A much less costly repair, my bearings needed to be done (which he was able to do). In my experience, Wayne's Service is an excellent, Rhode-Island-style (in the best sense of that term) business: small; friendly; attentive to your particular needs and situation; honest; and competent. If you express a concern, it's almost immediately addressed by the staff, often including the owner, Wayne, who always seems to be around and willing to address and explain any issue. Wayne's offers the antithesis of the experience at a big dealership, where your vehicle disappears into the garage and, a couple hours later, a salesperson explains what was done; Wayne's is more like bringing your car to a neighbor who's a skilled mechanic and hanging out with his affable family for a couple hours. Small, interested, capable businesses like Wayne's are increasingly a rarity: it's great to see that some still survive. One wish: that Wayne's was open on Saturdays (but I understand that a small business like this, where all or almost all staff are present every working day, needs a couple days off each week). read more

I've been going to Wayne's for two years now and am so happy I found them! They are thorough, honest and will take the time to explain anything to you if you're feeling on the fence about something. I recently took my car in to get the oil changed only to find out that I had read my mileage sticker wrong and the oil didn't need changing after all! Instead of not telling me and doing the work anyway (and charging me for it), Michelle let me know that the oil change was unnecessary and that I could come back when it was time to get the oil changed. I was forced to find a new mechanic and chose Wayne's after reading some online reviews. I was very glad I did. I took my truck in for a state inspection. After a very thorough check, they pointed out some problems that were very obvious but I would have never known about had they not took me under my truck and shown me. They provided me with a quote without pressure. In fact, they emailed it to me later so there was none of that awkward 'so, you gonna make that appointment now?" feeling. Be ready to be taken for a ride when you go there. There are so good at making you believe you need repairs that after you get ripped off you'll shake their hands and say thank you. Super Crappy service! Dropped the car off 4 days ago and were told that they were ordering a part and the repairs were to be done on Friday. Now we are told the part arrived broken and are now waiting in the ether til god knows when for yet another part to arrive. Manager was rude and condescending. Plus they are charging us $1000.00 for this service.....To think I referred my girlfriend to this horrible place. WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER GOTTEN! read more

It's really great to find a place with experience servicing Hyundais that is friendly and reasonably priced. I love the immediate photos and diagnostics available. I have an older car, so I'm comfortable ignoring some recommended services that don't seem worth it from a cost/benefit analysis, but I know they will tell me if something really needs to be done. It's important to me to have issues I don't understand explained, and I've been satisfied so far. Plus, Megan and Trish are great to work with. I didn't feel silly asking questions and Trish gave me a ride to work, even though I smelled like gas and probably stunk up her car. read more
