My sister was dating someone who worked at the garage at the time, so they decided to give them a try. The Chevy would randomly stall when braking on a highway on-ramp, or making a right hand turn. They had had it to the Chevy dealer a few times to no avail. The mechanic at Shaw's diagnosed the issue as an electrical short in the driver-side rear tail lamp -- I know, right? -- charged them for his labor (an hour or two as I recall), and we've been going there ever since. BTW, the Chevy never stalled again. The place has been in business at the same location for a wicked long time, so it ain't pretty, but it is clean (as a garage that old can be), and the people there are great, treat you fairly, and know their stuff. I've never had an issue with them, or had anyone I recommended to them have a bad experience either. For example: I had this contracted consultant on my team at work for a short assignment. She was not from the area, but was having issues with her Nissan. She brought it to a local Nissan dealer and they told her she had two problems and gave her an estimate of close to $2,000 to repair it. I was hesitant when she told me about it (frankly, she was a pain in the arse), but I recommended she go to Shaw's. She told me that Jim Shaw looked at her car and gave her an estimate of about $600 to fix one of her problems. When she asked about the other issue, Jim told her it would be about an addition $1,000, but she didn't need it. Thinking the Nissan dealer knew better, she told Jim to just go ahead and fix both issues. She told me that she was shocked when Jim told her "No," that he wouldn't "fix something that didn't need fixing." She went ahead with the one $600 repair and drove away happy, with her car running great. I'm writing this because my son is now buying his first car, and it had me thinking about how Shaw's has kept the beater that we bought for him years ago going with minimal pain to my wallet. These days it seems I have to fight a battle anytime I make a sizeable purchase, or hire someone to do work for me -- just to get what's due to me. You gotta love a place like this; one that you can really depend on to do a good job and treat you fairly, without the hassle.

look. im a very short woman. so when i walk into any business involving cars, its inevitable that…read moresomeone there will start talking to me like im the biggest moron on the planet because i look like i'm 16. it's incredibly frustrating to be spoken down to because i have the audacity to depend on other people for help with specialized knowledge and tools that don't fit my teeny tiny little hands. it sucks when i have to pay someone for belittling me. there was not a single moment i was here where i was treated like anything other than a normal human being. and they went above and beyond what i cynically have come to expect from most businesses: for less than $300 total and within 48 hours, i had my car inspected, an oil leak found and fixed, and the car passed for inspection. i have no complaints at all. that's so ridiculously reasonable and thoughtful (im an artist! im broke!) that it spurred me to come on yelp and write a review. thanks to everyone involved from the fellas at the counter to the crew in the garage.
