My first memories of the suburban deli or snack bar was going to the bottle recycling depot as a kid, cashing in our bottles, and then getting a treat from the proceeds from the deli down the street. Sherbet was my favourite reward. As I have grown older and wiser my fondness for the deli has slipped. They tend to be dirty, dimly lit and sell four core products: cigarettes, newspapers, meat pies and coke (I should include Picture magazine too).
Waymouth Cafe is very similar to the deli I use to visit as a kid, but is a bit more grown up. Gone are the aisles of lollies and chips. In are comfortable tables and chairs and cooked-to-order food. It's standard snack bar fare: burgers, chips, hot dogs... rise in the cholesterol level... Not my thing. That's why I come for the coffee. Man they do a good coffee. And I am grateful they're open on Saturday mornings when all the other cafes in the area are closed.
Should you check out Waymouth Cafe if you're in the area? Yes, if you want coffee or something to cure the mid-week hangover. It's one of the best in the West.
++++ VEGAN FRIENDLINESS -- They have soy milk and know how to use it. Food wise, they've knocked me up some nice veggie sandwiches and rolls before. read more
