Inexperienced in such cafe terminology, I stare at him awkwardly for a brief moment. "Okaayy," I say, "Yeah....I'll have it short." Dagger eyes straight towards me. I just stand there waiting as he hurries off to the back. "I'll bring it out to you!" The barista says out loudly... "Oh....thanks." Barista didn't laugh at such an intense situation... Coffee was brought out to me, as he said. Awkward as hell. And the Americano was strong and shot quickly down through my body. Dunno if this short Americano is any good for me, but it was worth a try for my first time.

Is consistently great and quick service, and if you want your coffee in a certain way (ie. small amount of milk with your Macc), then they're happy to pour it out in front of you and seek your feedback. Am slowly building up store credits on my Cibo card.. This coffee is always consistently good, across most stores, which means you know what you're going to get. Well stocked with newspapers (AFR, Australian, SYDMH, 'tiser), which always really helps. Hutt Street is my weekend Cibo store.. It's big and across the road from a good laundromat. They'll even give you change for the tumble dryer so then you can wait out your 40min session. My saturday morning cibo vice? The capocollo piadina.

There are many dairy free/gluten free options and organic too. Rasberry and coconut slice was absolutely delicious, moist and tasty AND gluten free AND dairy free. Hot chocolate mix isn't dairy free as they mix one dairy hot choc powder with a non-dairy powder. Not sure if they do this regularly but they were lovely and opened the non dairy choc to make me one :) Comfy booths. Nice layout, outdoor area. Its a small cafe so expect the ability to pump out a huge variety on the menu. Instead expect made-with-care salads and cakes with yummy drinks on offer.

We originally visited here as part of the Rendezvous markets, but that has unfortunately now closed. The upside is that Crossant D'Or Bakery has now decided to open every Saturday, which is great if you're looking for cheap pastries and coffee ;) My favourite is the almond croissant - full size for only $1!! That is not a typo - it's really $1. We also love the tray of 12 mini croissants (6 almond and 6 chocolate) for only $6, and a bonus is the good coffee (not sure if they stock soy milk - I had a very good long black). Croissant D'Or supplies cafes and the Central Markets, so is not really set up to be a stand-alone cafe - this is why the produce is so cheap, and why the seating is a bit daggy. It's a shame the Rendezvous Markets weren't sustainable, but I think this is because they concentrated more on the produce itself rather than the ambience ... and although this sounds shallow, ambience is a very important in making these sorts of markets popular. All in all, I think we will be frequenting Croissant D'Or quite regularly ... good for my wallet, but not necessarily for my waistline ;)

Then…read moreagain, Croissant D'Or Bakery is more of a 'working bakery' than high-end patisserie cafe, with the majority of their product ending up at local eating establishments. And probably being sold on for some considerable mark-up. This is one of these hidden jewels of the south, where you can grab a delectably flaky almond pastry and creamy latte for a fraction of what it will cost you at one of your more fancy establishments. It's worth seeking out this place early on a Saturday morning if only to grab a $6 tray chock full of croissant-y goodies; plain, chocolate and almond. And of course, you need to get one to eat then and there as well! The only downfall of this place (besides it's slightly difficult to get to location), is the general atmos. As I mentioned before, this is a working bakery set on an industrial estate. There are seats outside, but they are few and far between. The view is of the surrounding warehouses, with some old cracked cement pots with a few token plants for greenery. The music is also of some questionable taste at time - you'll have a few charming Parisian cafe tunes, but then mysteriously Zamfir will suddenly bust some panpipe moves. You can't help but think that with a little more careful planning, some more care taken with the outside decor and keeping up with the oh-so-French-chic musique that this bakery could become a real trendy hit with the Southerners. However, until then, I will continue to go for the amazing pastries, great coffee and friendly service. It's worth the trip through the sea of industry, for the best croissants in town. (Probably the same one you've just bout for triple the price at your local cafe!)

These are exciting times! The first thing that caught my attention is that this barista knows what a magic is and has it on his menu. Tick! Then he also has a mean and handsome Slayer at his command to make your brew. Tick! Then a arrangement of cold drip coffees and different blends to choose from. Tick, tick! Again, why do I live so far away? The owner here is so super friendly. Greeted me with a smile and was so very happy to have a chat about his business, produce and passion for all things Caffeine. He obviously has been experimenting with different techniques and has devised some highly potent caffeinated mixes that come with a health warning. Hahaha he has named it (quite appropriately) the Ass Kicker. Designed to keep you perky for a very long time. What did I order? Magic of course! A larger one than usual, but I am not complaining at a cost of $5. Awesome! Taste was bang on and at the right temperature. Very easy to drink blend. As for the rest of his lovely café, well he offers some lovely biscuits to pair with your coffee. I also hear rumour of a coffee slushy machine for the summer. How amazing will this be to walk along the beach with a cold brewed slushy coffee! Love to meet people that are so passionate about what they do! Onya!

It's in the unlikely location of Christies Beach (on the beach end of Beach Road), and since that's only about 15-20 minutes from where we live, we thought we'd make the trip down. Well, I wasn't really expecting Viscous Coffee to be quite this good!! The staff are very friendly, and the owner was impressively knowledgeable about coffee, (and the effects of coffee on the human body - I'm really going to have to try the dangerously high-caffeine coffee, the Adelaide Ass Kicker, heh heh), as well as being excited about trying different blends of hot and cold drip coffee - what a maverick! I was sitting there making a mental list of all the coffees I will be trying there in the future :) There are a few sweets that you can have with your coffee (few in number, but high in quality) - I especially recommend the HUGE melting moments, and Miss 8 loved her Oreo cheesecake-type sweet. Viscous Coffee doesn't have traditional individual tables, but bench seating along the side and one single lounge chair. When we came here it was fairly quiet, so the bench seating was perfect - in busy periods it may be better to get takeaway and head off to the beach or nearby park. I will definitely be coming here again ... probably next weekend, in fact! :)

The place is decorated in a minimalist style, simple tables and chairs, some booths, couches, benches and basically anything that will fit more people in to this always packed brekkie and lunch cafe. If the 5m long menu board isn't overwhelming enough for your taste buds make sure you DO NOT LOOK at the food cabinet on the way up to making your order as it will just confuse you more. The first time I went here I was distracted by so many things on the menu that I went for the safe eggs and coriander on rye option. A bit disappointed at the cost versus size of the meal my experience was slightly tainted. But as I sipped on my Ginger Zinger drink that was like star anise and gingery lemon jesus juice in a cup I looked closer at the menu and at what people were eating. It seemed that their big pancake and their roti wraps are the way to go. Upon my return to give this place a second shot I ordered a vegetarian twist on a bacon and egg wrap and, despite a bucket load of sauce and a fair amount of oil, I was impressed. As Laura said though, aside from the Ginger Zinger, the other highlight here is the bowls of coffee they serve. Yes it is a bowl and it is filled with smooth, creamy coffee goodness for you to dip your whole face into. Also don't go past their gluten free desserts here! Their lemon curd cake is delicious.

I visit sleepy Semaphore quite a lot, as the old parent-shaped people live that way, and it was only relatively recently that I stumbled across this haven of Scandinavian delights. And I'm not just talking about the cute mustachioed barista. Complementing the birch tree wall art and Viking paraphernalia (I'm a huge sucker for Viking paraphernalia) is a tasty menu of baked goodies that are fresh, sweet and plentiful - as well as Swedish-inspired specialties like elderflower drinks and traditional waffles. Any country that has a TRADITION of waffles is all right by me. They seem to be undergoing renovations at the moment, but the place is still very cute, with kitschy Swedish accessories, some chandelier action, as well as the aforementioned radical Viking stuff. There always seems to be a queue here which is also a good sign - and, super importantly, the coffee is solid. ALSO: THEY SERVE COFFEE IN A BOWL. A bowl, people. Further evidence that this is my kind of place.

However recently I have developed this hankering for going into a random cafe for breakfast (which probably came about through my time in Melbourne) and when I was in Adelaide recently I decided to make this place my first stop. I must admit that I was quite impressed. The big breakfast was not only cheap but pretty filling as well. The staff were really cool, and they made a pretty good pot of tea as well. Okay, it isn't all that fancy, but for a quick bite on your way to work for a decent price, it isn't all that bad.

Quite a large interior and really tastefully decorated in a modern yet quirky kind of way. They sell everything from tea cups to small box's of chocolate to have when your drinking your tea at home. So adorable. Obviously their tea range is huge, with a vast variety of flavours. I especially love their green tea range. The staff are fantastic and friendly, and if your a regular...they'll remember your name! The only downside of the location is finding a park. If your a tea lover, T2 is a must visit. They also have a membership program which you can earn points every time you buy something in store or from their website. Recommended.

Its black exterior, red logo and dimly lit interior gives it a somewhat artsy, dark feel. Not to say that it's bad, of course. It's something different, which is always interesting. Seemingly, T2's take on tea (try that for a tongue twister) is trendy and current, with a wide range of teas all marketed with a modern twist. And since many of the food trucks provide foods other than beverages or sweets, than the existent of Coffee & Crepes can be pretty meaningful, especially when it appeals among those food trucks, after enjoying a big meal you might want to have a coffee. You can get all regular coffee like other coffee shops at here, the regular size is $3.5 and large is $4, by ordering a cup of homemade iced coffee for only $4.5, I should say they give a generous size of beverages. And the owner happily accept my request for 'less ice', which make the coffee taste just right, great combination between milk and espresso, silky but not watery. The crepes menu they have contains sweet and savoury, from banana & nutella to ham & cheese, but I won't expect for a 'Le Carpe Diem' quality crepe since their crepes are priced $6-8. But still, by watching others buying, you get the crepes hot and fresh warped well in paper and tissue, for a $6 snake? They've done pretty well. And mostly I see them in the early morning, would be a nice breakfast on the go too!
