They should do better. Based on the burgers, I would have rated this a 4. However, service and the cheesesteak bring this down to a 2 star review. Fresh lemonade was available - sitting on the counter, but we were served the dilute lemon water residue at the bottom of the machine. This wasn't pleasant, so I wanted to replace the lemonade with some water. We waited patiently for 10 minutes for someone to return from the back. We then realized one of the staff had been sitting at a table with friends the entire time. To their credit they did get up as we approached the counter. A picture is worth a 1000 words. Although, I only need one to describe the cheesesteak....SAD! Came in close to closing was told the system was not working and orders had to be placed on line because the system wasn't working. I am technically challenged so I had a difficult time placing the order. I got the order checked it in the car had a bag of pickles and the burger and no fries. I knocked on the door and the young lady seemed agitated. Well I get home after asking for a burnt burger and got something totally weird looking meat. I'll enclose several pictures. The pickles seem to be fried in old grease they were dark and soggy unlike the pickles I had purchased months ago. Placed an order through the Wayback Burgers app and showed up well before closing -- only to find the location completely shut down. Handwritten sign on the door said "online only," but the lights were off, kitchen dark, and clearly no one had been there for a while. Tried calling multiple times -- straight to voicemail that doesn't even accept messages. No call, no email, no refund. Just took my money and disappeared. And to top it off? It's super nice in here considering that this is in a shopping complex. It's got a modern diner look and everything is clean. It's also very nice and bright. Some other review commented that it was too quiet but they now play background music. I would have been fine with it being quiet or with the soft music playing. My burger was delicious. I just got the one single meat patty cheeseburger, onion rings, and a drink for under $10 and they have a military discount. I didn't care for my onion rings. Confused about this place. The potential is there but ive been here 4 times and it just kept getting worse. The last two times it was unbelievablely hot inside. I don't think they have proper ventilation for the grill, or they are skimping out on A/C. The burger is a sold 4/5. Nothing to write home about but a sold burger when you're craving one in a fix. They are always out of stock of items. Last time I went, they were out of milkshakes, fried pickles, anything cajun, all chicken items. The time before all the fries were undersalted, no big deal I added some salt. This time they were way over salted. Didn't even ask for it to be fixed. Just left. We stopped in for lunch on the 4th of July. The team working was unbelievably kind and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and so were the shakes. We had the chocolate brownie and the strawberry shortcake. I have to say we thought the strawberry shortcake shake was the best ever! The bourbon cheeseburger and cheesy burger were excellent. A lot of food! The restaurant was absolutely spotless! I have never been in a place that was so clean. I have never been a fan of the saying "so clean you can eat off the floor". We finally made it to Wayback Burgers, just down the road from home and in the heart of the four corners of Bandera and 1604. We've seen a lot of good and bad reviews and wanted to form our own opinion of the upscale burger joint. We went on a Friday night around 6 pm and the place was packed, but we happened to find an open table in the small eatery. Because it was small, there really was no social distancing and there were a lot of kids running around. The line to order took us 15 minutes to get through. Most of the orders seemed to be to-go orders which make sense due to the size and the line. The menu is pretty to the point with burger and chicken sandwiches along with hot dogs. Sides consist of variations of fries, onion rings, tater tots, and house-made kettle-style chips. Once ordered it took exactly 30 mins to get our meal. I know it was busy, and a Friday night, but this was really pre-rush time. I am curious if the wait is shorter on a weeknight. My husband and I both had a double cheeseburger with bacon and no tomatoes. I guess the cooks decided for us that we should have the tomatoes after all. So we picked those off. We had our come with "o-fries" which is a combo of their onion rings (you get 2 onion rings) and fries. We really should not have had more, but we did. We ordered large tots. We were stuffed when we were done. The burger was good but not outstanding for the price. It was very greasy. I'm talking Five Guys greasy. I wrapped my burger in 3 napkins and the grease-soaked completely through. It was a thick burger and made perfectly. So I will give props there. We did not care for the onion rings. It was the batter that we didn't care for. The fries were good and hot but lacked salt. The tots were partially overcooked. They didn't look like they all came from the same batch and they had no seasoning or salt whatsoever so they were bland. We ended up taking most of the tots home and I reheated them with seasoning and cheese. Meh. The place was clean, including the bathrooms. I was impressed with that with it being crowded. The staff seemed pleasant but focused on getting orders out, but they also seemed a bit slow. It was also very loud, mostly due to the kids. That's typical, not a complaint, just know that it's a family establishment and small so the noise factor will be high. We spent about $40 between the burgers, fries, tots, and a soda each. For the price and the taste and the experience, we likely won't make an effort to go back. The problem with the location is that there are so many burger joints in that area that an upscale joint like this usually doesn't last. Up either road is two of the best locally-owned burger restaurants in SATX that are both cheaper. I'm not opposed to eating here again, it just won't be on the top of my list or even in the top 5. It is an okay place to check out if you have the time and price is not a factor. read more

We used to love Whataburger but the Patties are paper thin now so we have been trying new Burger places. A combo was about $15 and you get a load of fries and double Patties! We also got the spicy cheese curds and they were on point, this was the large size, too much for 4 people. The burgers are made to order and you can hear them sizzling in the background. We had been told the bugers here were pretty good and since we were in a burger mood we wanted to give them a try. The place was not busy. Only one table was occupied and they already had their food. Two people in line so we were golden, or so we thought. The first person in line got through with their order and the person taking the order proceeded to step away from the counter and start making several milk shakes. This seemed to take an inordinate amount of time but we could see they were short handed. Just 3 people workiing with 2 on the grill and one behind the counter taking orders(and makiing shakes). The next person in line, after waiting quite a while seemed confused about what he wanted to order. After waiting plenty of time he did not really know what he wanted. He kept looking at his phone. Apparently he was there to order for ten people with a number of different things that evidently confused him. This seemed to take longer than it should have. Oh well now it was time to order. Before we could open our mouth the counter person said our order wouldn't be ready or started for 25 minutes. 25 minutes for burgers? We had been there at least 15 minutes already. Nope, we left without tasting anything and probably never will. It is a shame that businesses can't seem to find reliable help or any help at all these days.
