In what would have otherwise been a 5 star review, I am giving Wax-On a 1 star because of what happened to me AFTER I waxed at Wax-On. I have waxed at spas in and around Seattle but wasn't super happy with the service. I was impressed by the reviews for Wax-On and wanted to give it a shot. I had an appointment with Athena last Saturday (12-7-13) at their Belltown location for a full arm and full leg waxing. To be noted that I was specifically getting waxed for my birthday which falls on 12-12-13.
Athena did a really good job with waxing my hands and legs. She was interactive, and made sure I felt comfortable. The ambiance was decent and Saturday is probably one of the best times to go to Wax-on as there were no other employees and the place was silent. I told her about my previous experiences at other spas where I found patches of hair after coming back home. So, she ensured I had time to take a look after she was done with each arm and leg. She gave a good massage with Shea butter and I was very happy with the quality of her work. I was so impressed that I asked her if she had time to wax my face (brow, chin, lip, sideburns) and she gladly accepted. To be noted that this was NOT the first time I was waxing my face although this was the first time I was waxing my eye brows. I usually go for threading and wax other parts of my face. I also scheduled ANOTHER appointment for next Saturday for waxing my back and stomach.
Athena had some trouble with getting my eye brows to look the same (the right brow became too thin compared to the left one) although she was patient enough to fix it after 3-4 joint attempts where we tweaked hair by hair. But that is not what made me give them a 1 star. After she waxed my cheekbone, I started feeling a BURNING SENSATION and she tried applying some gel which dint help much either. She asked me to relax and not touch the spot where it was hurting. Just then she had another client come in, and Athena being the only person at Wax-On Belltown on Saturdays, had to attend to the other client. I was charged $155 (excluding tips) for all the services. I asked her once again before leaving what I should be doing if the pain continues. She asked me to not do anything, and leave it as such and it will subside soon.
Soon after reaching home and showering was when I realized that a portion of my skin WAS SEVERELY BURNT on the cheekbone. I don't know how to describe this injury- I am not sure if the skin was ripped off, or burnt, or something else, but I was and still am in pain due to the injury. This experience has hurt me so bad- physically as well emotionally as I am 3 days away from my birthday with a sizable scar on my face which is shown very well.
I know Athena did not intend to do this to me, but the damage has been done. The irony is that I paid $155 and am left with a scar on my face for my birthday. I am not sure how long it ll take for this injury to heal, but until then I will REGRET my decision to go to Wax-On every time I look at the mirror. Also, I called them and cancelled my appointment I scheduled for next Saturday. The very thought of going through such an injury at other sensitive areas of my body freaked me out. I don't know how Wax-On management is going to make me feel better if at all they care about their clients, but I ll keep updating this review post until the injury heals. read more
