I've never made a Yelp review... that's how much I liked this place: We recently moved to Durham. I have tried several hair salons and hadn't found a good fit yet, that is until I found Wavelengths. I wasn't sure what to expect as I had never seen the place before but was referred by a friend. The staff was friendly when taking my appointment and they were gracious upon my arrival, offering me tea or water as I briefly waited. The ambiance is nice, creative and not the sort of "cold trendy" vibe you too often get these days. However, it wasn't old school either, just a unique and positive vibe. -I immediately liked it. Dani cut my hair. She was enthusiastic, nice to talk with and very welcoming. You can tell she really cares about what she does, she considers it an art-form. But none of this matters if your haircut is not good. Thankfully, I'm happy to report that I received the best haircut I've gotten since moving here. I think I've finally found a place I can continuously go to in Wavelengths and a stylist I trust in Dani. I highly recommend it. I also would suggest requesting Dani, she's got skills. read more

Do not go to this salon! The only good thing about this salon is the receptionist because she is kind! Sherry cut my hair, and she is very distracted and condescending, not to mention a very bad stylist!!!! She cut my mother's hair, my daughter's hair, and my hair, and none of us are satisfied. She does not listen to what you want done, and does what she wants, most of the time nothing, covering up the fact that she is a bad stylist by using a ton of product. She left my daughter under the dryer for way too long, while attending to another client. This after waiting for 45 minutes after our appointment time. She is very distracted and disconnected to her clients. Not friendly, please do not go to this salon!! Very overpriced for what you get; worst haircut I have ever received! Take your chances anywhere else please!! I am a very kind person and this is this first review that i have ever posted. Please do not go to Sherry at this salon!!! read more

I have been living in Durham for a long time, but had not found a place I trusted with my curly hair. On a recommendation, I went to Wavelength's and had William cut my hair. He did a fantastic job. It looks great and I am very happy with the haircut! My only word of caution is don't go there at a time when you are busy or on a tight schedule. I was the first client of the day and although William was there on time, the lady who opened the doors was 30 minutes late and we had to wait for her. William took his time with me and did not worry that he had other clients coming in, he just focused on me and gave me a wonderful cut. However, I was glad that I did not have somewhere else I needed to be and I had the time to wait! He gave me a complimentary deep conditioning to make up for it, so I'm giving 5 stars, but I did just want to warn people about not going when you are in a rush! read more

I've hesitated on posting this review, but here goes: I had a haircut here back in August 2013. I will say that my stylist had some talent and seemed to know her stuff. But she also told me she didn't want to talk to me because I was her last client of the day, she was tired, she had had a bad week and just couldn't wait to get off work. Yup- she really said that to me. She did take her time on my hair but I was so uncomfortable that it didn't really matter. I then noticed that someone pulled a woman who I believe is the aside and they were not having a pleasant conversation. The decor is eclectic and fun but it is also a little dusty. Finally, when I went to check out, the receptionist told me you couldn't put a tip on the card. Really? Even after all of this, I think this salon has potential. If Tabitha came and helped them get their act together, I'd definitely go back. read more

I can't wait to go back! From the moment I got there I felt extremely safe (went during covid). They took my temperature everyone had masks. We were well spaced out and they were constantly wiping down everything. I had the honor of Niamh doing my hair. We had talked a few days before of what I was looking for. From the second I sat in her chair we clicked. We had great conversations, I felt like she knew what I wanted before I even told her. We did a lovely balayage and she recommended some curtain bangs something I was thinking of doing but never had mentioned. The finish look was absolutely stunning, I've been getting comments from all over asking where I went. Overall I cannot recommend wavelengths and Niamh enough. Such a sweetheart and genuinely amazing person and hairdresser!!! read more

After searching high and low for a hairdresser that was able to deal with my very long naturally curly hair I found Sherry Clayton:-) I first met Sherry a couple of years ago when I went in for a Ouidad cut. OMG, my polynesian hair and I love this woman so much!!! Thanks to Sherry for the first time in my life, I have learned to embrace and love my 4 feet of thick naturally spirally curls. I have also had the pleasure of sitting in Megan Walter's chair when I wanted a spur of the moment color change, Megan is the Queen of balayage!!! If you are a curly girl or if you are looking for some amazing color and cuts, give them a call. Ask for Shannon at the front desk. She is super helpful, patient, sweet and very knowledgeable about the services and products offered at Wavelengths. read more

I'm so happy with my new haircut! Meghan is so so talented and totally understood my vision and helped me get exactly the results I wanted. We chatted before the haircut and she was super honest and gave me some great advice on what she thought would work with my face shape and which length would be most flattering, which I appreciate a ton because it really shows how much thought she puts into every cut. Besides her amazing hair-cutting skills, Meghan is also the sweetest and you'll have a blast chatting with her during the appointment. I'm obsessed with my new hair and so happy I found this salon after having had some bad haircut experiences in the past. Incredible results, great price point, and the friendliest staff, I couldn't be happier to have chosen Wavelengths! read more

I came to Wavelengths quite by accident. I met one of the stylist Alex through a mutual friend. I had been going to the same stylist for almost four years she recently moved and I needed to find someone else. I scheduled and appointment with Alex and am very happy I did. I can be quite annoying with what I am looking for and she definitely got it. I was looking for everyday but with an edge and she did exactly that. Today the day after the haircut I received so many compliments! I have officially found my new salon and specifically my new stylist Alex!!! One tip bring cash for the tip you can not put it on your card. I never carry cash so this is something will need to remember for my next appointment. read more

After years of $12 hair cuts, my wife finally convinced me to let her hair cutter, Mariya @ Wavelengths, cut my hair. Sure, it's a bit more expensive, but well worth it. Mariya's cuts look good and stay looking good for a long time. She's a natural at it and knows how to handle any head of hair so it looks goods and meets whatever the customer desires. What's best about Mariya, however, is her honest desire to give you what you want. She has infinite patience and a fun attitude. She now cuts my hair, my wife's, and my curly haired daughter, and I recommend her to anyone in the area and beyond. read more

I was looking for a good hair stylist and I have found one! I usually opt for highlights, and it's not easy for my type of hair to get a desired result, sometimes I end up having highlights in yellow color, or red, instead of sun-kissed highlights. The results here, at Wavelengths were excellent from the first visit! I got a gorgeous highlights, and a great haircut. I'm completely satisfied and plan to come back in the near future. My hair stylist was Carrie Song and she is an expert in what she does. I'm so happy my friend has recommended this place! read more

I have had three facials at Wavelengths with a professional, experienced, GIFTED esthetician by the name of Pushpa. She is gracious, refined, intelligent, good-natured, and she is excellent at her profession! She made me completely comfortable and relaxed and then she worked her magic on my face and neck. She finishes off the facial by doing a brief, tension-breaking massage of the back of the neck, the top of the shoulders, each arm, and each leg. She is unrushed and has always given me the full time I was scheduled for. I recommend her highly! read more

Great job by Meghan! This was my first time at Wavelengths. I brought in pictures of what I was hoping for, but she clarified for me that those styles would be a lot of work in the morning which was not what I wanted. So she suggested something fun and easy that would be a good summer look for me. I appreciated the fact that she could picture what would look good on ME. She also did not push additional products on me. She did make a suggestion about adding highlights to my hair in the future (which I have never done) so I am considering that! read more

Love this salon. Not only are they a wonderful neighborhood salon with talented professionals, they have become my friends! Not to mention they carry the best hair products for all hair needs! Sherry did my hair for my wedding and it was perfect- exactly what I wanted. She worked with me to get it just how I wanted it and nailed it! Meghan does my highlights and cut and she is amazing at making it look completely natural. I've referred clients to this salon who are now devoted customers. read more

I got a Ouidad cut with Sherry. I have very curly hair, and she took the time and care to cut it just right to avoid the dreaded triangle hair I came in with. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Sherry is very friendly and easy to talk to, and she listened to exactly what I was looking for. Everyone at the salon is very professional and welcoming. I couldn't recommend Wavelengths more highly, especially for anyone with curly hair! Two enthusiastic thumbs up. read more

I have been living in Durham for almost four years and in that time I had yet to find a decent establishment to cut my hair. Never did I have this problem in New York or Los Angeles. Recently, on a recommendation, I went to Wavelengths. Was totally surprised. After to mis-fires, because the people who cut my hair left, today Brittany Rich, got it right and not only right, did an incredible and wonderful job. I highly recommend this salon. read more

I just moved to Durham a few months ago. I was so scared to try a new salon since I've only had the same woman do my hair for years! I scheduled an appointment with Dani for my color and cut. When I came in, she sounded like she really knew what she was talking about in our consultation (very reassuring). When my hair was styled and finished, it looked gorgeous!! I'm so happy I found a stylist that perfected my hair on the first try! read more

I have been on a quest for someone who can deal with my thick, wavy, unruly hair for years. It has to be razor cut usually which most stylists are not confident about. Finally a friend recommended Sherry Clayton at Wavelengths. She is a Samurai with that razor! She really knows what she's doing and has introduced me to options I had never known or thought about. She's fast, professional, and talented. read more

I am thrilled that Nick has joined Wavelengths! He truly is the best when it comes to highlights and cutting edge haircuts! I have been going to Nick for almost two years and am so glad that he has moved to such a beautiful AND FRIENDLY location! A tip line would be a nice addition to the CC receipt because few women keep cash on hand. read more

I love Wavelengths! I have been getting my hair cut and highlighted by Nick for a couple of years now, and he consistently does a fantastic job. I am always happy when I leave; Nick somehow manages to transform me from feeling like a dowdy housewife to looking my best every time. I highly recommend this salon!!! read more
