Lobster dinner
Karen S.

This restaurant is located on the Halifax waterfront. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Great atmosphere. I had the lobster dinner and it was delicious! My friend had the fish and chips. The fish was huge. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable for fresh seafood.

They have thirteen kinds of fresh oysters, but the prices are quite high. The lobster costs $65, but everything else is ok

Very friendly service and delicious food. My beer was excellent. There were four of us and three ordered fish and chips. Served up pipping hot with crispy batters. I had the seafood chowder and there were more seafood than vegetarian. It very thick and creamy and scrumptious.

We were able to walk-in without a wait during the lunch rush on a weekday. The servers were super busy, but still did a great job. The lobster was delicious and the menu mentioned they were alive in a tank up until you ordered them. The door was open, they had high ceilings with cute oar decorations and I believe the stove/heater was on. Great place. I'd recommend it. :)

Lobster roll

Lobster roll was just amazing! Great service! Coffee was the best in town. Right on the waterfront!

Decent food, decent drinks. Cool looking inside though. It's totally giving waterfront

We went to this restaurant hoping it would have some higher quality seafood as many reviews were positive and the price was higher than other restaurants. When we got there, it was a nice big space with some nice decor and the service was great. Unfortunately the scallop ceviche was subpar with the lime juice tasting like it's out of the bottle, pineapples from the can, and scallops that were frozen with no fresh flavor. The lobster poutine was ok but the fries were mediocre and the lobster was dry. The fish and chips were a decent portion but still expensive with the fish being dry and flaky, the coleslaw wasn't amazing, and the fries were mediocre again. Maybe the market price seafood options are better but I won't be returning here.

Outside patio

Great outdoor patio that got busy. Craft beer selection pretty good. Bacon wrapped scallops were amazing not fishy, had to be super fresh. Very inviting inside. My wife said she would hangout there on a rainy day.

It is a large lounge style restaurant on the waterfront. Nice old style nautical decore inside. Booth seating. Kind of dark inside. The fresh lobster and the seafood chowder were excellent. I liked the potato salad. The place is quiet in the off-season so I don't know about their other dishes. They have decent beer selection. Service was OK. Service will be much slower during the tourist season so go during off hours in summer. Most restaurants are expensive on the waterfront so you cannot avoid it.

Okay sometimes I think Yelp should have two ratings one for food and one for service. Because I find that I often the rating I give isn't a fair one. So for this restaurant: 1 star for service (if that) 4 stars for food and atmosphere There was a MASSIVE line outside because the hostess was absolutely the slowest and most incompentant person I saw at the job. She spent so much time standing around chatting with servers. It took us 15 minutes just to get in which should have only taken 2. And when we left the line outside was even bigger even though there was plenty of seats available. I understand staff when they are overwhelmed and trying their best, but this person simply wasn't doing her job. Our sever was slow too but at least you could see that she was trying and she was friendly although we had to ask for water, ask for menus, ask for a beer etc. etc. The place itself was lovely. Nice open atmosphere, right off the waterfront. Decorated quaintly and very clean. Food was the standard seafood fare with some land lover items. When the food finally came out it was tasty. Really enjoyed the scallops. Definately fresh and well cooked. Sweet and tender, i could have eaten the dozen myself. Lobster roll was tasty. I spent three weeks in the East Coast. This was my first lobster roll, I probably ate about 20 on the trip. This one was decent but not standoutish. It had a decent amount of lobster. I am not a huge chip fan and these were bland. All in all I would go back for the atmosphere but not if that hostess is running the ship.

Great atmosphere but the food...lobster bun tasted like a tuna fish sandwich made yesterday. Chowder was on point.

Not very tasty, pathetic portions, and expensive.... Don't bother. It's disappointing.

Chowder was awesome. Fish and chips were epic. Server was average. Hostess took forever to show up to seat me.

My wife had the Dublin Pastie - which was a puff pastry stuffed with chicken and a bunch of other yummy stuff. The waiter was very good with suggestions on favourites. He made sure to check in on us, we never felt rushed or ignored despite the many people in the pub. While the roll itself was small, the lobster salad mix was fresh and tasty. While I generally prefer fresh lobster off the shell with melted butter for my lobster rolls, the one I got from the Old Triangle Irish Alehouse was not bad at all. The Caesar salad, on the other hand, was absolutely phenomenal. I love how every piece of lettuce was well covered in the dressing, served with some of the tastiest croutons I've had. I did not expect that at all. The server was friendly. I also really enjoyed the live music.

Charlie's is a pretty chill place to go hang out and have a few beers…read more The crowd can be a little rough around the edges but I guess the university throngs have pretty much pushed the average drinking man out of every other bar in Halifax. Pool tables are a nice addition... I wasn't really sure what the $2 cover was going towards besides upkeep? A grungy/funky spot in the North End that's for sure!

This is not a tourist bar, unless you are a linoleum architecture tourist, or a $2.75 tequila shot…read moretourist, or a tourist of watching tight knit groups of locals sit around in circular formation. Charlie's is where you go when you want to go to Cheers. (Not the Cheers on Grafton St., the Cheers on TV according to your 6 y/o mind, which is really just the the theme song, fuzzy visuals, and conflating real life people with Cliff and/or Rhea Pearlman.) In short, it's where you go when you come home nostalgic and want to see all your old friends, enthusiastically buy each other drinks like it's a genuine gift, dance to one of those weird new electric blue jukeboxes, shout and pontificate around a pool table, and generally have a back slappin, squeezey hugging, chortling little time. The decor is like any affordable house, only the door has a key code and a woman sits at a table with a guest book when you come in. This does not make you feel cool, but it does make you feel like life is funny. The bartender is so used to over-friendly drunk patrons that nothing can melt him. I imagine that deep in his core is something more kind than anything I have ever known, but it is too precious to be shared. The last time I came here, someone apologized for asking me to dance when I turned him down. Apologized. For my rejecting him. A dark little mineshaft to the salt of the earth this place is, lemme tell ya.

A couple came in, sat at the table beside us and someone came over to get their drink order. We still waited. I was getting pretty annoyed at this point and was about to count to 10 and leave when the waitress came over and grabbed our drinks. The other waiter came over and apologized. He said he thought someone had already taken our order. All was good! My white hot restaurant rage slowly drained from my face. I was happy again. The reason it was just Okay was the super loud bros in the back, screaming about their weekend. I mean they were screaming. I felt like these guys might be regulars the way they were so comfortable here. I mean, I don't even scream in my own house. I'm never that comfortable. A lot of other tables were glaring over at them as well. Hello? Do you live here? Are you that confident that everyone in here wants to hear your conversation? Because I will bet my hard earned money they don't. They couldn't have been drunk, it was only 1pm on Sunday. Maybe they were drunk on VLT gambling. Who knows. All I know is, this place was full of regulars, at the bar, at tables, in the VLT room and I was uncomfortable. The Jenny burger was definitely worth all the uncomfortableness though. I added fries and coleslaw for only $3.50! This has to be one of the best pub burgers in the city. Although I'm raving about it, I honestly will probably never go back due to the high likelihood of screaming. I can't comfortably do anything while people are yelling around me. Sorry Jenny's Place. I will give you one more shot though, when I need a big greasy breakfeast!

Standard but nice atmosphere with green walls, large wooden bar, a few booths in the front, sectioned off tables in the back if you want a bit cozier and darker feel. Friendly staff. Good selection of beers. For food, I tried their 'Requisite Nova Scotia Pub Nachos' - 'freshly fried corn tortilla chips, herbs, salsas, good cheese, veggies' their words - $19. They are definitely pretty and colorful topped with shaved radish, cilantro, some kind of hot saucey drizzle, splash of sour cream, few chunks of perhaps feta? Good portion size where I was full, and appreciate that they are meant to be different than your typical nachos, but didn't blow me away. Nothing wrong with them, just left me craving the more boring standard nachos with tons of stretchy cheese on it, peppers, tomato, etc. My friend had the 'Very British Pie' - roasted chicken potpie $16. It was good, rectangular shaped, burnt a bit on the corners, tad watery inside, simple but satisfying enough. We debated trying dessert but were actually full from the beer and entrees. I'd still go back here anytime and try something else on the menu.
