This is the best food I've had in Catskill. This is the best Asian food I've had in the Hudson valley. This is not a run of the mill Thai restaurant with goopy pad Thai covered in peanuts (I don't hate it, but basic) the flavors and dishes at Wasana are authentic, fresh, subtle. We were seated almost immediately at 7pm on a Saturday. There was only 3 other parties in the establishment. The service was just okay but I attribute it to being seated in the elevated stage corner (we liked the privacy actually). We ordered the spring rolls and chicken satay as appetizers. The dipping sauces were great. Chicken was juicy and the spring rolls were good too! The chicken pad thai didn't taste like your standard pad thai but it was still yummy. The Pad See Ew was great--a good level of sweet and spicy. My friends' dish was extremely salty, almost inedible. However, overall most of us were happy with the meal! read more

I hope to have a late lunch here today. This restaurant is an unassuming hidden gem. Consistently for well over a decade the husband and wife team have been creating home cooked authentic Thai food. What a wonderful hidden gem this place is! From the outside it doesn't look like much, but I promise that it is worth it. The place is owned and operated by a husband and wife. The husband is a friendly and funny guy who runs the front of the house. The wife is the chef of some of the best Thai food I have ever had. In conversation we learned that they try to source many of their ingredients from local farms and their own garden. The prices are reasonable, too! I will definitely be returning here any time I want Thai food (and I live about 30 min away). If their very large menu is overwhelming, you can't go wrong with the Green Curry. read more

Most incredible, authentic Thai food I've ever eaten. We found ourselves up in Catskill and a local recommended this restaurant to us. Almost the entire menu is Gluten Free, and everything is amazing. We met the 81 year old grandmother who opened the restaurant 25 years ago and was sitting inside crushing peanuts while we were there. For food we had the Chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce, wonton soup (incredible), chicken pad Thai (don't think I can get this elsewhere ever again) and a curry dish I can't remember the name of. 5-star service and everything was delicious. Came with my daughter for her 21st birthday. We had never been to the area but were pleasantly intrigued by the cat feline figurines. Looking at them reminded me of my childhood stray friend that I would feed out of the drive through window named Bandit. Seeing this, I had immediate high hopes for this town renowned, boat recommended cuisine. Unfortunately after picking up the order, I was immediately let down. I can only equate this feeling to seeing bandit get hit by a driver who cannot Parallel park. The blandness reminded me of the diversity at my school; speckles of seasoning. The experience was enhanced by a Minecraft player and a "lack of chicken." You know what that means. Despite all this, I do want to say, they gave it their best shot. Enjoyed the Pad Grapow with Chicken (2 heat stars) and my husband had the same with Beef (4 heat stars). Both of us plan to up the spice next time. I'm not sure why this place got a 3.5 average rating because the food was delicious and the service was great. The server was friendly, accommodating, and easy going. My friends and I rented a house in nearby Athens, and were delighted to find a Thai restaurant after a weekend of burgers and hot dogs. We placed a hefty takeout order. This was easily the worst Thai food I've ever had. The pad thai noodles were still white, with no hint of sauce or flavor whatsoever. The pad see ew noodles looked like fettuccine. The larb was bland. Spring rolls were the only redeeming food item of the whole order. Ordered two thai iced coffees that never made it to us. I was missing an order of dumplings, got someone else's summer rolls. They called to say they'd give us a credit for a future order. Ha, no chance on that, so I guess it's my loss. And I'm pretty sure we overpaid or they got the bills mixed up because it came to an absurd amount. I can't even verify what the total should have been because when I asked what the total would be the guy said "I'll tell you when you get here to pick it up." But my husband went to pick up, and paid blindly assuming I'd just ordered a lot of food. Terrible experience. read more

In the mood for Thai last night and decided to try Wasana's in Catskill. It was quiet, with only a couple occupied tables when we arrived. The menu was pretty extensive and had good options for both vegetarians and omnivores. We tried the wonton & tom kha soups, shrimp wraps, fried rice and a curry. Food here is made by a Caucasian man. So you know the food here is not going to be good. I ordered the drunk man noodle and it had a weird wok taste. Probably haven't cleaned it in forever. My husband ordered the masamun curry and I've never see a curry mixed in with the rice. I guess when you have a Thai restaurant in the middle of nowhere, the locals won't know the difference. read more

This place isn't much to look at but don't let that fool you. The food is amazing! I happened to wander into it while browsing Main st and I'm glad I did. The food is cooked to order and doesn't take long for them to prepare. They have meat salads, curries, stir frys, soups and more. I've had a stir fry and two curries-pad ped and tanang. Both were outstanding as compared to another place I went to. They will spice it down for you as their spice is no joke. I love the at home feel to the food. That being said, they only thing I don't care for is the atmosphere. The owners don't seem to want to talk, you have to get them talking. In fact if it wasn't for the food being great I wouldn't have gone a second time. But being that I went a third I'm hooked! A must try. read more

we 3 went to Catskill( from western mass) on monday to see the wonderful cats. we came for lunch a little after 11:30, being the first customers of the day. we shared spring rolls, duck egg spring rolls and tom yum soup to begin. they were all delicious. we then had 2 entrees-bamee pad(egg noodles in a sauce with vegetables) and gla doog moo( marinated spare ribs). the flavor of the first was good but very few vegetables. the second was tasty but some of the meat fatty. server friendly and accommodating. 3 stars for food 1 for ambiance. curtains old and cocked in window, place needs new coat of bright paint, lighting very poor, things hanging on walls cheap and tacky( get rid of), bathroom very uninviting with a board suspended over the tank...the restaurant floor is really quite nice. with some minor relatively inexpensive changes this place could me more welcoming to its' customers. read more

Being fans of Thai food, my husband and I headed here. (My honey had come up with a list of places to see/do/go/eat at before we left home.) Parking in much of this area is no problem on weekends apparently and the meters are free the whole time of Saturday AND Sunday. This is a kinda small place by my terms, but well kept with interesting local art on the walls. It felt family owned and operated to me when I stepped in the door. Our server was polite and friendly with the most interesting short pink Mohawk hair I've seen in a while. The menu was not extensive, 2 pages, which meant a focus on doing what they offered well. I applaud that. I got a house Thai salad and the chicken wings app. My husband had a steak and veggie spiced dish with Jasmine rice. ( I forget the actual name of his dish.) I asked the server if they had tried the wings. "Of course, I've tried everything!" was the enthusiastic reply. I was told the wings were quite good. Our food arrived relatively quick (10 mins?) and since it was only us and a table of four down the way, I'm guessing it was effort put into the cooking which took that time. The wings were, I admit, some of the best I've had. Not oily AT ALL and a light crisp to them in every bite. The meat was juicy and tender. The serving of 5 was also plenty since these were some of the largest pieces I've ever seen in an order of this size. Sadly, the salad was another story. It was mostly iceberg or romaine lettuce and the dressing was mostly oil with crushed peanuts on the bottom. Not the style of dressing most places will provide. My husband will give details on his, but the piece of steak I tried was cooked to medium and tender enough. My only small qualm was the demonstration of ego the server gave. I'd said I thought it was delicious when asked how everything was. The reply I got was "Of course it's good!" (Much of the ego I felt, was in the tone of voice.) I should have read the reviews before I went though a friend had said good things. The first thing that comes to mind is that it is truck-stop Thai food, and yet maybe truck stop Thai food might be better. It is tasteless. I took a curry and a pad thai as takeout and I had a little and will throw out the rest. If you have never had Thai food this might work for you, but this isn't even mediocre. Very good Thai food in downtown Catskill. About 7 tables available at the present time it was no problem getting a seat on a Friday for lunch. I had the Tom kha soup which was excellent. Followed that with pork with red curry sauce which was very good. Lots of interesting things on the menu which I haven't seen elsewhere. A place to return to. read more

When we moved to the village of Catskill back in 2011, we found this place and would get take out on a pretty regular basis. We have since moved out of the area but when we are near the village, we try to stop in and get a take out. While I have never had a bad experience with the taste of the food, this last time, Oct 2020, left a 'very bad taste in my mouth'. I called in the order and when I arrived, none of the 3 people doing the cooking and the food prep had masks on. The young woman who took my money had mask on but that was it. In NY, masks ARE still required ESPECIALLY for those who are doing the cooking and handling food! It sadness me to say that we will NOT be returning! I had said that if I ever came across this type of thing that I was just going to walk out and not even pick up the food, but because this was a place that I once loved, I felt bad doing it. Holy disappointing. The food at this place has plummeted over the years. In the past, this was one of my road trip jaunts to get Thai food, as decent thai is scarce in upstate NY. I've had many meals there, and in the past, it was tasty decent and CHEAP thai. NOT ANYMORE. Last night, my son and I stopped in on our way home from a northern road trip. I was excited for what I thought would be a tasty cheap and yummy thai dinner. WRONG! First... the place is FILTHY! There was a plastic string in my son's water glass, a filthy dustpan and broom sitting by my table, dust and cobwebs all over. Dust and grime on the window sills and the table felt sticky. I mean, really dirty. My food was served to me on a Christmas plate which gave me some weird vibe. We ordered two of my 'safety' dishes. My son let the waitress know that he's trying the green curry for the first time. He's a little kid... wouldn't she talk to him about the spice level. My experience of green curry is that it's usually pretty mild. His was SO SPICEY even me... the fan of indonesian and other super spicy foods found it inedible. I got the pineapple fried rice which showed up more like a mushy risotto (gross) with canned tomatoes and canned pineapple that was sticky and mushy. Where's the cashews? Nope, none in this dog food looking slop of a plate. The chicken in both dishes was really overcooked and chewy. I mean, what a bummer. My son and I kept switching plates to try and sort him out with something to eat. We left more than half our plates over. When the rather remiss waitress came over and asked us how it was... and I was like, "well... erm, eh... " she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. The owner came over and said, "sorry she's new, took the filthy gross dustpan away and didn't realize we were displeased" What else sucked? Their prices went WAY up with the quality of the food plummeting. Our takeaways... Bad Service. Filthy Joint. Icky bad food. Since we didn't get food poisoning, I'm giving it two stars instead of one. Pretty much no way we'll go back out of our way for that place again. Yuck. read more

Compared to Thai food that I have had in other areas (NYC area) it is not very good, but again for the area, it is really a gem to see a Thai restaurant. BYOB the last time I was there, this time I did not inquire but it looks about the same. Asked for my food extra spicy, and it was indeed extra spicy. I was heading up north on the NY Thruway and wanted Thai food for dinner. Called to preordered for pickup and gave them one hour to pickup my food. I gave them one hour because they said they were very business when I called earlier. Arrived at the restaurant and food was ready. The staff was very friendly but I had a feeling this meal was going to suck. My order was a noodle dish and a papaya salad. They put the salad on top of the hot noodles and made my cold dish hot. My ice coffee was warm and most of the ice melted. I'm pretty sure they made my dish a drink as soon as I hung up. That means my food was sitting on their counter for about 45 minutes. When I finally opened my dish it did not look or taste anything like pad thai. The noodles were all broken and did not have that sweet and tangy taste. I love eating at a place where the owner loves the food that he cooks. Just ask the owner of Wasana about ghost chilis and he will tell you whether he recently got the shipment in of even hotter peppers that he was waiting for (!). You can tell he is very into authenticity and has visited Thailand more than once. Even the spiciest of their food is flavorful, and all the flavors are different. I've had a sampling of their dishes and each one of them had a different character to it. Just be careful of asking for "as hot as you can make it" because he can make it hot enough to melt your fork. Their space is kind of funky, like a hole-in-the-wall place off a side-side road in NYC. I haven't been there during the busy part of the day, so I can't speak to their service, but whenever I have gone, the owner has taken our orders and served us himself. If I didn't have to cross the river to get there, I would go a lot more often. read more

I sure wish I could give a better review. But we were a little disappointed when we tried this restaurant. The atmosphere was definitely lacking in any sort of set up. Randomly there were hung on the walls (years ago). Looked very dated. Dark in some corners dimmed in others. Anyway apparently they were short wait staff and the chef was taking orders and kinda expressed he doesn't care for it. We asked about the Thai red soda and he had no explanation other than how would you describe coke. Huh? What the heck. I had heard that Thailand famous for its red green and yellow soda. So anyway I ordered the red soda thinking I'd get a bottle of it. But apparently he opened seltzer and added either grenadine or red flavor. Way to sweet. Never getting that again. We also ordered a bubble tea. Blue butterfly pea tea with small tapioca and brown sugar bobo it was ok the large bobo was a little warm inside still and slightly under cooked. Other than that it was ok. The spring rolls with salted duck egg was ok. I love duck so I had the crispy duck with rice and veggies. It was ok had some honey ginger anise flavor. Way over cooked. And the bones were black. Frozen at times I supposed. Also had ordered the chicken with rice and veggies it was kinda plain. So the whole time we were in there we heard a few comments from the behind the counter and from the kitchen. the owners were complaining about things Like if this keeps up I'll have to close I guess the shortage of staff etc. No one ever asked us how our drinks and food were or if we needed anything else.
