I would describe my experience here as something straight out of an SNL skit…read more While going through some old boxes, I came across a few magazines from when I was much younger--an old 1979 Spider-Man, Hulk, and some 1980s Cracked and Mad magazines. Curious if they had any value, I brought them into the store to see if they might be interested in buying them. I walked in with the magazines, and was immediately greeted by five employees behind the counter looking at me like I had just walked in carrying something from another planet. I explained, "Hey, I came across some of these old magazines and thought I'd stop by to see if there's any value in them and whether you might be interested." The five of them chuckled, looked at each other, and eventually one employee reluctantly flipped through them. In a tone that made it pretty clear what he thought of the whole situation, he said, "I'll give you $2 for all of them." Cue another round of chuckling among the five employees. At that point, I honestly had to laugh. Watching the whole interaction unfold in real time was so absurd that it felt like I had wandered onto the set of an SNL skit. I couldn't wait to tell my friends about it. I certainly wasn't expecting a fortune for a handful of old magazines, but a little professionalism and courtesy would have gone a long way. Good luck!

It's a large store, which is good for their in-store events (it looked like they have a MtG night, at least; not sure if they have a board game meetup as well). They had a display of Ticket to Ride in the wind wand though I know there are plenty of board gamers who turn their nose up at that one I am a fan. I've been wanting to add a copy of the France/Old West version to my collection because that one has my hometown on the Old West side of the board and I was happy to find multiple copies here so I snagged one. I was with a friend who hasn't really played board games all that much, but she picked up a copy of TTR Asia to try sometime too. The guy running the shop was pretty friendly, and had an extended conversation with another couple in the store and was helpful when I had questions about another game or two I was looking for. This soup is open later than some of the others in the area too, which makes me think that they must have at least a few events that take place throughout the week. We were first stopped just inside the door by one friendly associate who welcomed/greeted us and recited a long menu of store specials and their back to school sale, and if we need help she's right over there at the counter for us. We were like, ok, got it, thanks! I knew what I needed and just wanted to see the colors I was buying in person, so I start shopping. Less than a minute later here's another associate, another WELCOME here's ALL our sales and our BACK TO SCHOOL SALE and if you need ANYTHING we're right over HERE by the counter! Okay, I said, thank you, that's great. I smiled and again I tried to start shopping. Another thirty seconds and here's another associate who gives me, AGAIN, the welcome/sales sales sales/we're over HERE by the cash register if you need anything! (Where ELSE am I going to go look for assistance? The deli next door at Whole Foods?) Unable to concentrate on selecting my paints, I went to give my husband the three things I had managed to pick up and was stopped by another associate who gave us both the same sales speech AGAIN. It was as though the entire shift was actively preventing me from finding the materials I was there, cash in pocket, struggling to buy. Yes, I did start getting terse and snippy when I was just repeatedly approached with the very same canned spam sales pitch by multiple ridiculously aggressive associates, because it was incredibly annoying. Maybe they thought I was shoplifting? One associate who had already given us the sales speech and apparently taken offense at my manner then approached me when I was by myself (of course) still trying to look at the Goldens. In a voice dripping with contempt, they slowly and deliberately gave me the same speech yet again. That's not creepy or confrontational, is it. Refusing to make eye contact with them, I squinted at the tube in my hands and said again, great, thanks, got it. We were in the store for maybe five minutes, seriously, for all of that. The contemptuous confrontational person came to the door while I was outside waiting for my husband, and stood with phone in hand, watching me with a little smile, seemingly texting. So on top of all that I'm sure I'm the new Karen on some sad social media site somewhere. And then we drove to the Schaumburg Blick, which is awesome with associates who are allowed to speak normally to customers and let them shop, and I bought all the rest of my paint there.

I called for a quote to have several thousand dollars in items framed. I asked about a Prisma frame…read morethat I wanted to use on the pieces. First, the woman sounded put out that I just asked for quote and didn't guarantee she would be my choice for framing. That would be based on best possible price for the money I am going to spend. And, second, told me she would have to have the Prisma company give her a quote because they are handmade frames - her answer ... "ummm, I don't..." that was enough. If you are put out by providing the services you are listed to provide : "FRAMING", then maybe you should be in business. You just lost over $5,000 in framing.
