Great hobby shop one of the last good ones left. Always helpful always has stock. Sad to see all the people who lack basic life skills complain. They have always 100% supported,taught and given good advice. I'll always shop at leisure hours. There's no better place in Chicagoland. For the cry baby's if you can't read a manual and locate a part number don't buy a remote controlled car. Teach the kids some life skills and have them build a parts list and know the components. I had an older RC car that I wanted to get running again. The store was busy and I assumed that I would have to leave the car there to be evaluated. To my surprise I was helped right away. 2 guys went over my car and had it running within 15 minutes. Sold me a couple parts that I needed and did not push anything else on me. Price was more than reasonable and the employees were super friendly and eager to help out. Went with son and a friend to look for some RC plane parts. Guys there were very helpful and fun. Readily showed us items we were looking for and took us around isles to open up casings for items under key. Also, they were buzzing through the isles with their mini quads. I was introduced to Gaming since there was a tournament going on behind a partition. Emcee of tournament invited me "in" and explained this new, cool past time. Pricing competitive. I've purchased 5 airplanes from Leasure hours hobbies over the last year, and countless repair parts, batteries, chargers, etc. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The first airplane I purchased was a Flyzone select scale cessna 182 rtf. A few days later as I was learning about this hobby, I discovered the airplane I purchased must have been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years. The one I bought came with an fm radio system, even though I paid the same price as the 2.4 systems that had been out for more than a year and a half. Out of the 5 airplanes I purchased, I did ask them to price match one of them, and they were happy to do it. Tonight, I wanted to purchase 3 airplanes that Horizon Hobbies had on sale. I called the store before driving 45 minutes and asked if they would price match. I was told that if it was a Horizon Hobbies deal, they would price match. When I arrived and tried to make my purchase I was told that they couldn't match the prices. I said that I had called to make sure. I was then told that if the prices were "reasonable" they would have matched them. I asked if they recognized me because I am in there a lot, and the guy said, "yea, you're always having me price match stuff". I'll be returning the items I purchased there last week. The whole reason I go there instead of ordering online, is for customer service and to support my local hobby store. I see no reason to do that when they have no problems lying to me on the phone, and complaining about me wanting to pay the manufacturer's sale price. I'm done. read more

Today me and my son stopped in to pick up some parts for my husband and 2 other sons R/C trucks ...while asking for parts the guy behind the counter got really rude with me because I didnt know the part number, when he has a part book and could look it up.... I put my phone on speaker so my husband could tell him what part he was needing, and the guy told my husband to Google the part number and let him know what it is!!!! Really, I'm sorry he had a book open right in front of him and couldn't look it up for me himself??? Then when I asked for a whole axel kit for a 2 wheel drive slash he brought me 2 axels I said sorry this isnt right so put my husband back on speaker and the guy got really rude and said look it up and order it yourself because I dont know what your talking about so my husband told him the part number and he just walked away came back and threw the part down at me..... my husband then said I'm sorry to make you have to do your job and look something up, the guy then half laughed rolled his eyes and made a loud psst noise and gave me a really dirty look....the gentleman next to him mouthed I'm sorry to me and I then went to the front counter to pay because by then my 19 year old son was ready to tell the guy off!!! I have never been treated so POORLY at any place of business considering in the last 2 weeks I have spent over 700 dollars at this establishment!!! My son was going to buy a new slash while we were there, needless to say he decided to order it because of the way he saw I was treated!!! Just last weekend we bought 2 new cars, parts, batteries, and a brand new drone for my other son with new blades for it because after we spent over 200 dollars on the drone he then came up to us(same guy who was horrible today) and said by the way you might wanna buy a pack of blades because they are known to fly off right after the 1st use and you will need to replace... then why did he tell us this is a top notch mini drone for my son to race and then wait till after purchase and tell us by the way it breaks right away ... for real????? I definatly will NEVER step foot into this place again, time to find a new hobby store that treats there customers like humans instead of garbage at the bottom of there shoe!!! read more

My interest is building plastic models. I've given LHH a fair amount of business over the years, and while I understand that costs go up, I find it unconscionable to price a 1/350 scale military ship anywhere from $170-$350. It's just a plastic mold. If I were an owner I would seriously consider not selling plastic models because I could not justify to my customers charging them that kind of money for a box of plastic. And that, of course doesn't include glues, paints, and various other tools needed to reconstruct the project. Having said this, they are not alone. Nearby Walt's Hobby Shop is much the same although their paints and cements are slightly less expensive. LHH's new location, although a bit inconvenient for me, is beautiful, and this place has everything you need for almost any kind of hobby. My middle-of-the-road rating is primarily based upon their pricey costs. I would add a couple more $ signs at the top. All in all, if you're not impatient, you can find the same products online less expensively. Good business, but far too expensive overall. read more

I've been shopping here since 2003 back when they were down the street from the current location. The service has always been hit or miss. For the most part the employee are helpful and cordial however when they miss they miss drastically. I won't go into detail of why I believe certain types of people like myself are treated differently as often here so instead I'll just discuss my most recent visit on 2/4/17 approximately 3:30pm. I brought my Slash truck in for a $1.25c bearing. While I was using tools that were scattered on the counter in a manner as if they had been here since the morning to remove a wheel... one of the employees came over and said "naw, these aren't community tools..these are my personal tools". He gathered his tools, placed them into a case then to took the case and place it behind the counter then walked away. I guess I was naive to think that hobby shops were comprised of a community of enthusiast who shared experiences, fixes, stories of hobby debacles, and even tools. Ok, to finish it off the other employee who helped with the bearing felt it was necessary to walk me to the front to make sure I pay for a $1.25c bearing after I told him I'll let the guy up front know that I have a bearing on the truck that I need to pay for. Maybe that's his job but in light of the previous event this type of treatment doesn't make your business feel appreciated when you've spent thousands here and at times upwards of $1000.00 in one visit several times. When options become more feasible like Amazon, Good ole Boy places like this will be taken out of my diet. read more

I used to go here all the time and all the guys were fairly helpful and nice and knew about their products. Just went in there to buy a battery for my RC heli. Wow have things changed! Unless you are in there to buy a $500 RC car, they could care less about you. The staff was rude to me. The guy I asked about the battery didn't know anything about the one I was looking for and when I asked him about upgrades for the heli, he gave me a blank stare then asked another guy who gave me an answer I found out was untrue. He had me go search for the battery and upgrades myself. I mean, in a way its cool they let you pick out the stuff you need but come on! Learn a little about the products you sell! Also, they are a little overpriced compared to HobbyTown USA. They have a ton of products and spare parts but this last experience makes me not want to come back. I thought only HobbyTown had rude staff, well apparently Leisure Hours is just another HobbyTown. read more
