This year when I walked into In Focus of Branford I had reached a complete level of frustration…read morewith other doctors and a small optical shop in Guilford that had much difficulty creating a workable pair of glasses for me. I was given an incorrect pair of glasses by the Guilford shop and told to wear it, until I got use to it. No kidding!! I was seeing the world through a fish-bowl. The In Focus people suggested I immediately make an appointment with Dr. Bowen who would start anew and write up a new script for me. Dr. Bowen did evaluate me and her script was perfectly accurate and very different than what others had erroneously written. Instead of trying to steal me away, Noelia an employee of In Focus shop called the shop in Guilford and explained to them what they had to do in order to give me a workable pair of glasses. It took weeks if not months before I would receive a pair of glasses from the Guilford shop. I decided to order my 2nd pair of glasses from In Focus. Within days I had the pair and by comparison the process was wonderfully smooth and without difficulty. I could see like an Eagle. No more fish bowls for me!! The people of In Focus know their business. A special thanks to Noelia for all her efforts to help me. I got to know everyone on a first name basis: Stacy, Boh, and Herb are all top notch in my opinion. I switched over to Dr. Bowen for the future. Some other points to mention: The prices for glasses at In Focus were reasonable. They were able to complete my order in a few days. They did not make any mistakes. In the future I will only go to IN Focus. I wish I could give them 10 stars!!

He's super knowledgable and attentive. He's also one of the first optometrists that is sensitive enough not to make me feel bad about my vision but suggests ways to protect my eyes. For example, he suggested that my husband gets glasses that filter out blue wavelengths (since these tend to be the ones that are most harmful to vision). The last time we went, we were rather rushed because the only available time slot was the morning when my father was due to arrive at Bradley Airport. Never before had I felt so much like a demanding customer, constantly rushing to see if we could either wrap up early, or prepay so we wouldn't have to pay after the checkup. I felt badly, but also didn't want to keep my father waiting at the airport! Dr. Hochberg and his staff were as considerate and patient as can be. He didn't cut any corners despite my attitude and ensured we got a full checkup before departing.

As politely as I can say this.....never, EVER again!!!! Last 6 months have been so difficult…read more Insurance issues. They never bothered to submit to insurance (never told me) and when I was due to pick up glasses they told me I could get the frames now and the lenses in a year! Of what benefit is that? It took an entire day for ME, without their help, never disclosing they failed to submit to insurance and were deceptive about ordering glasses three weeks prior, to straighten this entire mess out. An unbelievable nightmare. They finally submitted to insurance and immediate coverage of course but I had to wait an additional three weeks for glasses to come in for a total of six weeks unable to see. They never offered to expedite. Then the glasses come in and I can not see a thing through them. I was told to keep wearing and get used to them. Could NOT see. Had horrible headaches from straining to see. Then the final visit for a lens prescription change when the frustrated doctor changed the exam lenses so fast that vertigo was brought on snapping at me "which one you see better" and my ability to answer because I could not either. I just guessed to stop him from snapping at me. Finally I could not take it anymore, gave up, left in tears NEVER to return EVER again! They were good upon initial opening. Now it is incredibly difficult and I truly do not want to leave this bad review but hopefully the Dr and the VERY, VERY rude staff will understand there is very real problem that needs to be addressed. Customer service is horrendous. Horrendous! Now I know why. If the doctor is snappy of course the staff would be the same and incredibly incompetent as well. I hope they can fix their issues, I truly do. As long as nobody messes up they are adequate however if there is an issue you are in for one heck of a long, impossible nightmare.

Dr. Scanlon's exams are thorough and her "bedside manner" is affable. She was able to quickly diagnose my father's condition after he had already been to three other doctors who had overlooked it. That is why i have been seeing her for about 9-10 years, maybe more... BUT to get to Dr Scanlon you have to get passed the trolls. The customer service in the front of the vision center is some of the worst I've ever experienced. I'm surprised these women still have jobs here with the way they treat and talk to people. Rude, short, snippy. They act as if you are bothering them. Whenever you walk in, most times you are made to wait a minute or so before you are acknowledged or helped, even when there is no one else there. Standing there is awkward. One of the trolls is worse then the others, but the others seem to follow suit when she is there. And on this last visit I noticed cleaning practices slacking. I watched the main troll put dirty glasses that people tried on right back on the display without cleaning them. How unsanitary... I decided to get glasses elsewhere. I'll be back in a year or two for Dr Scanlon, but if she wasn't so amazing I would never recommend this place. My advice, Just get your exam and then run far away from this place...

The plus side: The office is very friendly especially the woman at the front desk. They had a great selection of frames including Coach, Versace, Calvin Klein, Ed Hardy and a few other designers. Prices were a lot better than your Lens Crafters or Pearle Vision stores. My appointment was at 3 and they took me at 3:02 so there wasn't a huge wait. Dr. Conrod was extremely personable and polite and explained my many options for eye care. The negative: The tech or whomever that I first saw was really rude and possessed the listening skills of a toddler. If I have to explain to you multiple times in a five minute conversation that I mainly wear glasses and rarely wear contacts and I want to wear contacts daily and use my glasses as a back up, you really are not listening to me at all. It's frustrating to be a new patient with a new provider and have the staff treat you like you're stupid and you wouldn't possibly understand your own eye care or eye health. In a similar vein, the woman at the front desk gave me the fifth degree over my insurance plan, corrected what I said and then ended up being wrong. However she, unlike the tech or whatever, apologized and corrected her mistake. Honestly? LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS! If it wasn't for the doctor himself, I would have gone elsewhere. I'm hoping that when I go back to for my contact lens follow up, I have a better experience.
