I have been going here for over 20 years. The most recent visit my glasses were wrong 4x! (2 pair times 2 incorrect lenses=4 trips). I believe the problem is the labs they use to make the glasses. Also the non-glare is not non-glare at all. It has a blue tint to it and your glasses will reflect if having online meetings. I left and went to another place who measured the glasses and told me that the glasses K&P gave me did not match the prescription. In addition the bifocal area was not level. K&P did refund my money. The response I got was, "We pride ourselves in getting it right." Yes, but clearly you do not get it right. Very disappointed. I like Dr Flor and think she is a good doctor. A year ago I had an eye exam and bought a pair of glasses. The eye doctor told me I didn't need progressives, which I had had previously, I should have questioned this. While shopping for a pair, the technician helping me redirected me away from the top of the line, expensive glasses and offered several less expensive options, from which I chose. Within a month of wear, the hinges on the glasses went loose. Upon bringing them in to be tightened I was told, 'all glasses do this, ask anyone'; none of the previous glasses I have worn have ever done that. Gaslighting. Then, because I didn't have progressives and needed to take the glasses off and on, I sat on them. When I returned to the store, they told me I could have gotten progressives. I sure wish I had questioned them originally. They patched my glasses back up. They reluctantly offered a small discount in order to purchase a better quality pair but I couldn't find a pair I liked, and I resented needing to purchase another pair of glasses due to their selling practices. So. Question the doctors. Check the quality of the glasses you are shown. Or better yet, go elsewhere. I ended up going to Warby Parker just a few blocks away. read more

This place has been great for me. I bought glasses and prescription sunglasses here, and I am very happy with them. The staff was very patient when I was indecisive and wanted to keep trying on more and more glasses, and they were good about giving advice and making recommendations but also letting it be my decision. One woman made a very good suggestion for me about taking a particular pair of normal glasses frames that I liked and making them into sunglasses, and they look fantastic. They were also very clear and knowledgeable about the pricing, different lens options, and impact of insurance, which I appreciated. They are always very nice about tightening my glasses on a walk-in basis. I also saw the optometrist here for two regular eye exams and for a problem with my contacts, and I thought he did a good and thorough job. I purchased 8 years ago a pair of Lindberg eyeglasses from the New Haven store. A year ago retired and moved to Charleston South Carolina. There are no optometrist that carry Lindberg eyeglasses in South Carolina and you can't purchase the eye-pads for the glasses online. Figured paying more would get me good service and glasses, spent 1300 on 2 sets of glasses that i could get for 1/3rd that price at other stores. Ended with constant problems and but the lack of effort to fix it was what really bothered me the most.. One pair had a lens that kept popping out and had to bring it back multiple times to offer to even do a permanent fix. Other pair had the nose protector fall out as well as had lenses that were never in focus. They never fixed the root cause of the nose protector failures either so i had to keep going back which took up alot of limited free time. As for the lenses being out of focus, they kept telling me the glasses were normal and i needed bifocals although i bought 2 pairs in one day and the other pair worked right. All around, there is a lack of effort there, they are more interested in making new sales than fixing problems with ones they recently made and I think this is why they never fixed the root causes. Overall 3 problems nevermind 3 extra reoccurances with 2 sets of glasses over a few months is too much. When the statistics work like this, with this many problems , all buyers should beware. For me, decided to take the loss and ordered new glasses at my old shop. Really cant afford to keep dumping time into a lost cause. There is no agenda with this message, dont want anything for free, no exchange, I can afford to pay more so people do it right the first time, nevermind the first 6 tries but made a mistake here. So here's the scoop: I went here for an annual eye exam and the eye doctor was excellent. I was pleased with the entire experience and would have resulted in a 5-star rating had this review been done right then and there. I was in an hellish semester at the time, and didn't get to the review. It was fate. A few months after my eye exam, I called to ask if they could look up the exact date of my last exam, and had a few other random questions. The person who answered the phone was without a doubt, the single most rude, awful, distasteful person I've ever encountered. She was downright hostile. I was shocked, because here I am just asking a few simple questions about my last visit! WTF?! I'm not exactly asking her to split the atom by 5pm of I'm offing her family. I have a lot of friends in New Haven, and unfortunately I will never recommend this location to any of them. It's a shame, because the docs are great, but not if you are going to receive that kind of treatment when making appointments, asking questions, or stopping in to look at frames. read more

The good: when I was away from home and needed my RX info in an emergency, they we're responsive and kind. The bad: I've gone in twice recently to look at frames with the intention to buy, but was unable to. First time, all the salespeople acted like they couldn't see or hear me. The other time, one salesperson grumpily opened a case for me, and then all 3 disappeared into the back without saying a word. I waited around for a long time - even refilled my meter - before leaving. I felt like Pretty Woman in that Rodeo Drive shop. (Except that neither of us is that special.) I cannot say enough about the great customer service here. I lived in New Haven for 3 years before relocating to Boston in August of last year. I used K&P for all of my eye exams and contact lens scripts. In the beginning of 2017, I purchased a new pair ofKate Spade eye glasses that I loved! Unfortunately, my spring broke and needed to be replaced. I called K&P where Jennifer took my call and told me the piece was under warranty and had me mail her my glasses for repair. Not only was the repair free of charge but they sent my glasses back, priority mail with a little eyewear kit within a week! I was shocked to get everything done so quickly, Jennifer even called and left me a nice voicemail letting me know they were on their way back and emailed me the tracking. They are now making my third pair of glasses. The last frames were problematic due to manufacturer's design, and they readjusted them many many times for me over the three years I had been using them. All at no cost and done with a smile. My last script needed to be changed within a year of getting the new glasses and they replaced the expensive lenses: trifocal graduated, light weight, coated, and transitions, FREE of charge! Yes the frames are expensive, but you can usually get a 20% discount for asking. If my new glasses are perfect I will come back and make this a 5 star rating. read more

I went here once for an eye exam and to order new contacts. The doctor was very nice but told me that my eyes had gotten much worse in the past year since I started grad school because of all the work I was doing on my computer. He gave me some advice on what I can do to prevent my eyes from getting worse (since he knew I had 4 more years left of grad school). I ordered the new contacts; they were more expensive than when I buy them online, but that was expected. They have a nice selection of glasses and sunglasses, but the ones I looked at where a bit expensive. One time I went in to ask them if they could tighten my sunglasses and told them honestly that I had not purchased them there and would understand if they could not, but they were so nice about it and happy to help. read more

I had my eye exam and purchased eye glasses from Kennedy & Perkins over a year ago. I was pleased with their expert care and making of my glasses. At the time I also thought they were on the higher end of the cost scale, but not drastically so. In time I needed an adjustment to the frames, NO CHARGE. Today I visited the New Haven store, was cheerfully greeted and every effort was made to satisfy my request. I asked if they could fit my existing lenses into new frames I purchased elsewhere. They said if I could wait a few minutes they would see what could be done. After a few minutes I was fitted to MY new frames. I fully expected to pay for this service (although the lenses were an exact fit) as it took their time and expertise to make the swap and fit them for me. Again, NO CHARGE. Now looking back, it is a case of "you get what you pay for" ... Kennedy & Perkins delivers consistent great expert care, products and service. For what amounts to the cost of one time dining out, Kennedy & Perkins additional cost is well worth it. read more

Decent exam, friendly service. They did not contact me when there were delays in the lenses. I was told they would be ready, on Friday. After driving down and spending $2.00 just for the privilege of parking. They then let me know that they didn't know when they would be ready. I guess they don't care about repeat service. My script is not that rare, and they have my number. It doesn't take almost two weeks to get a pair of glasses. Not satisfied at all. I should have taken it as a warning when I saw a customer stormed out the day of my eye exam. I am this close to canceling the order all together. I also had an excellent experience here. Not only great advice about frames (i've never gotten so many compliments about my frames), but they gave me new lenses when the bifocal was not adjusted just right. I've been wearing bifocals for almost 20 years and it was the first time that the optician cared enough to be sure that it was adjusted perfectly for my needs. The initial eye exam and service was OK, but I have to say that everything that came afterwards makes me name this place the worst opticians I've ever been to. The appointments are never on time, the service is slow. The stuff don't call to remind about the appointment, don't call when the glasses are ready and don't call back if you ask them a question they don't know the answer to and promise they will call you back once they find it out. And since when it is impossible to change the diameter of the lens by 1 mm in a semi-framed glasses? Unless you want to pay $400 for a pair of glasses you are not happy with in the end (as stupid me have done), don't go there! read more

My experience with Kennedy & Perkins on Whitney Ave is bad. I went there because I needed new contact lenses. They asked me if I need an appointment with a doctor to get a prescription. Since my insurance does not cover the doctor, I asked in advance how much it will be. They told me it would be around a total of $40. That did not sound too expensive to me, so I got my appointment. On the day of my exam, they made me sign a paper that I would cover the cost of my examination up to $150. Smart move, because after the exam they charged me $140! I was quite surprised and asked if that includes already the lenses. It didn't... I immediately told them that their original estimate was about $40, but it was pointless. I was pretty surprised about such a cheap tactic! Needless to say, they insisted on $140. Reading the other reviews, I am glad that I at least took the prescription with me! I will surely buy the lenses elsewhere and won't come back to Kennedy & Perkins! read more

Terrible service: I have had contact lens fittings here (because Yale Health Plan does not do this) and while making an appointment for my next fitting, I asked if they might do a PD measurement as I really like a pair of frames I found online. The person on the phone said that was fine. I go into the store and request the measurement. Person starts to refuse and I explain situation, noting that I have an appointment for a contact lens fitting in less than a month. The person helping me (looking annoyed) asks my first and last name and then disappears for 15-20 minutes; she emerges with records from my last exam and curtly explains that "there was some confusion." She adds that they release for eyeglasses customers only, and in that case they have to sign a liability release form. I say I'm happy to sign that form. She says "she does not know me" and refuses. This is ridiculous. Teenagers routinely make this measurement at eyeglass chain stores. Others use a credit card and their webcam. It takes 15 minutes and would have been a kindness to a customer. I know this will have no effect, because they are one of the only places in New Haven that offers glasses (and have a referral program with Yale). I have to believe that's the only reason they are consistently ranked highly. The frames are overpriced and the salespeople are rude. You could do a lot better. read more

The best optician shop in Connecticut. I have been going here for years, and I know what I am talking about. The selection is very good and always stylish (but expensive, prepare to pay). The service is very professional and they will give good advice and opinions about which frames look nice on your face (and which frames do not). This shop is better than the ones I have been to in Manhattan. I am mostly in Manhattan these days, but go out of my way to get up to Kennedy Perkins in New Haven. Highly recommended. read more

I will never walk into the New Haven store again! They are rude, arrogant and not the least bit concerned with helping a long time customer. My (very expensive) glasses frames have broken several times and needed to be repaired each time. They cannot do the repairs on site and have to send them to CA. They have no regard for how long it takes them to be repaired and do nothing to expedite that process. Each repair has taken between 10 and 15 days until I got my glasses back. This is unacceptable customer service when my livelihood depends on being able to see! The staff doesn't feel that helping to expedite the repair process is important or worth their while. They even told me not to call the store to check on the status of my glasses. They were quite rude on the phone and in person, each and every time I dealt with them. read more

My initial visit with the Dr. was very nice and pleasant, However, everything after that was horrible. I needed to chang the brand of contacts and was told that this would be easy. It was not, it was a nightmare I could not get the Dr. to return phone calls. Speaking to the staff did not help. When I finally did reach the Dr. I was told to come in pick up the prescription the following day. I went in and it was ready but he had forgotten to sign it. I was not pleased. I was told to come in the following morning and it would be available. I drove into New Haven and it was still not available. I let the staff know that I was unhappy. One specific staff member was on of the rudest, most beligerent, nasty people I have ever encountered. Certainly not what I expected from an upscale establishment. I had to ask someone to get me someone else to deal with. The manager apologized for the staff members outburst but it was not enoughIt was unbelievable. The fact that I had to call several times and go in several times without getting what I needed and being yelled at by staff, not worth it..especially at their prices. I moved to the Connecticut shoreline almost two years ago. One of the hardest transitions in moving is replacing all of your go to's....doctors, dentists, optometrists etc. As soon as I stepped into Kennedy & Perkins in Old Saybrook I was greeted with the best customer service and knowledge that anyone can want or need. Found a pair (or so I thought) of perfect glasses only to find out after I got home that I didn't really feel 100% comfortable with them. After a few months, I decided to go back and visit the store just to see if they had any advice. After all glasses are not cheap. Advice they had! They went completely out of their way to work with me until I was happy. BTW, the issue was not with the frames or prescription....it was completely personal and they still went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. Who does that??? Not many in this day and age but Kennedy & Perkins didn't think twice. I am very picky and in my honest opinion, if you are in the market for new glasses or an eye exam RUN don't walk to Kennedy & Perkins in Old Saybrook!!! First time I used this company but in a different location. Employees were pleasant and courteous but I don't feel they were helpful in helping me select frames that were suitable to my face. Just kept putting frames in front of me. Glasses came in sooner than expected. Very pricey. My insurance gave me limited options to go to in my area and I just can't believe they would use such an expensive place. Eyeglasses that I chose they told me would normally cost $1100.+. With some discount and my insurance I paid $656. Which is still much more than I previously paid at my eye doctors vision center which was now not covered by my insurance. I asked what this $450. discount was and all they said was I had a really good insurance. But this is not what my insurance paid. My frames cost $230. But when I looked on line they were $185. Quite a markup on everything. Not sure I will use this place next round. read more
