Went for a quick lunch while staying at a nearby hotel with our kids. Very friendly service, great food and drinks. I had the chicken mole and my kids split the carnitas tacos. The salsa was tasty with just the right amount of heat, and the guac appetizer served inside a small bowl made of a taco shell was delicious with plenty of onion, tomato and seasoning. I tend to add salt when my food lacks flavor but had no need for any of the dishes served. Great meal! read more

We sat outside with a group of 8. Old metal table with very uncomfortable chairs. We received chips and salsa, but no one came to take our drink order for about 15 minutes. After we received our drinks, another 15 minutes before someone came to take our dinner order. Food is priced at average $12 to $16 for entrees, but when the food came, the entrees were very small. It took about 20 minutes for our food to come after we ordered. Had a bottle of beer, should have asked for price before hand, but did not, was charged $7 for a bottle of beer. Then because of the group of 8, we were automatically charged an 18% service charge, which normally would be OK if the service wasn't so bad. read more

Stay away! We were hoping for a cute hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, what we got was rotten food and we were charged to use the bathroom! UPDATE: I have a credit card receipt that proves we ate there two weeks ago (I will post a picture of the receipt if you continue to insist on calling me a liar). The 1 and only chile relleno that came as a main dish was tiny and the lettuce and tomato accompanying it on the side were slimy and rotten smelling. To be fair they had really excellent flan but what I'm really most upset about with how I was attacked by the owner I tried to use the bathroom. His rudeness and bad attitude even comes across in his reply. This town is full of restaurants and the first rule of business is to treat your customers with respect. read more

Wapos is such a cool place! Very clean and a great vibe. The servers are sooo nice and I've always had unbelievable service here. The chips and salsa are great. The outside patio is fun. I like this restaurant because it is very laid-back, and is not pretentious whatsoever... That is something I always look for when I look at peoples reviews... I hate an upscale Mexican or Asian restaurant! I feel like it takes away from the fun for some reason! For the first time at this location in Boulder, we FINALLY have a delicious Mexican food restaurant...Wapo's!! My wife and I have been big fans since they opened last year. The revamped menu is filled with varied and delicious fare -- great layers of flavor, fresh ingredients, and something for everyone. Their vegetarian options are very nice for those of us in the crowd who don't eat meat. I would recommend the Pregnant Burrito (it's FANTASTIC) and the Organic Margarita for sure...and make sure to get your relleno crispy. Trust me, the food and the staff make the long trek up to North Boulder very worth it. The owner has also said to me several times that he has plans for live music out on the patio once it gets warmer this year. I really want to like Wapos. I love the idea of a cool hole in the wall Mexican place in a sea of super expensive restaurants in Boulder, but it disappoints every time. I recently went in with a large group (15) and waited 2 hours for food, we're talking melted cheese on tortillas and some beans, nothing fancy. Don't even get me started on drinks. After waiting way too long, a few of us tried ordering from the bar (sounds like a reasonable idea, right?), and were turned away, told that we could only order through our server. The owner completely ignored our table, never once came and apologized, nor gave a good reason why it was taking so long. I even saw him bark at his servers a few times, not cool to do this in public. Two members of our group showed up an hour after we sat down and were told that they could not order food (at 8pm) because they had run out. What kind of restaurant runs out of food? The food was fine, but by the time we got it, all we wanted to do was leave. read more

This is starting to become my go to mexican restaurant in Boulder. While the location is a little out of the way I have never been let down by the food (The shredded beef crunchy tacos are amazing!) or the amazing service and fast! So far everything that I have had there has been great, free chips and salsa too! Most every other place always seems to charge a couple dollars for that. We come here for quick (and strong) margaritas and always enjoy sitting outside, which has more seating and is a great place to drink as the sun sets. It's a smallish, family-run establishment and the waiter guy always seems as if he's doing 20 things all at once. Despite seeming flustered, he's always gotten our orders right! The last time we were here we ordered Carnitas tostadas and OMG the carnitas reminded me of late nights eating Carnitas burritos in the Mission district of SF. They were yummy! Food: Absolutely delicious. I haven't had anything that I thought was just "eh" or subpar. Having eaten here a few times, I have enjoyed everything I've ordered. The Pregnant Burrito is amazing, chile rellenos are great, the salsa is dang good with what I think is a perfect amount of heat, the veggie burrito is killer, and the quesadilla primavera is a must have. Margaritas: Excellent and well-balanced. They don't use that crappy sour mix so commonly found at cheap mexican restaurants. This is good to go!! Prices: reasonable and affordable. Location: it might be a little hard to find/see as you're driving in (especially in the dark) They've improved the signage but it could use a little more. The ceviche I had was INCREDIBLE. Jalapeños in the ceviche were awesome! My mouth is still on fire. I also liked the skinny margaritas are only a 153 calorie and very tasty. There wasn't an option to check in at Wapos when I was there, so I'm checked into Si Senor which is what was there a few weeks ago. (According to a friend, the man who owns Wapos was an employee at Si Senor and decided to buy it from the previous owner when it went out of business. This place is just great. The food is delectable, the staff is super helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is comfortable and homey. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but worth the drive. This was my first time there, so I can only recommend what I had: the carnitas. They were truly outstanding. Smothered in green chili and bursting with flavor, they came with some delicious guacamole, salsa, rice, and refried beans (which were exceptional; all refries beans have tasted the same to me before this; these were particularly flavorful). Props to the waiter for his recommendation. In addition, everything tasted super fresh. Truly, truly awesome. The only piece of advice (and slight negative) was that the room temperature was a bit chilly. Admittedly, I'm the kind of person who gets cold, but I'm also not usually cold inside restaurants unless the doors are open. So if you're like me and tend to be cold, make sure you bring a sweater with you. read more

The service was excellent, the waiter was friendly and accommodating, even though our group was not easy (one each of: paleo, vegetarian, low-fat, preggers, and just plain picky) and made a lot of substitutions. The food was okay. My enchiladas were lukewarm, which was disappointing because the sauce was pretty good. The chile relleno was good (and hot!), as was the pork green chile. My husband (paleo) enjoyed his fajitas but the beans on his plate were cold. My friend on the low-fat diet also enjoyed her fajitas, my veggie friend loved her cheese enchiladas, and the picky eater ate almost all of her plain burrito. I'm torn about whether or not we'd go back. The flavors were good and the prices were right, but too many things were cold. The salsa was meh. The chips lacked salt. Overall, the food is overpriced for the quality. I ordered 2 chicken fajitas , guacamole and chips and salsa to-go and it came up to about 40 dollars. This seemed expensive after I looked at my food. The chicken strips lacked seasoning and were swimming in a pool of oil with mushy veggies. After reading other reviews, maybe I should have tried the burrito instead. I don't recommend the fajitas. I ended up trashing the fajitas and going to Rincon for empanadas. The guacamole was good though. The staff is friendly, but on the night I came in they lacked management direction. When I complained to staff about having to drive back for the tortillas they forgot to include in my to-go bag, it became awkward. The individual in charge for the night avoided me to the point that another junior staff member felt the need to step up and address my concerns. All in all, the situation could have easily been resolved if senior management was on staff that night. It was a Friday night during dinner hours so I'm not sure why there was not anyone available. This was honestly awful. I ordered the vegetarian burrito and the vegetables this supposedly Mexican restaurant chose to put inside were broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. These flavors just do not go with Mexican flavors and do not belong in a burrito. It was so inedible I had to throw it out. I have to give an updated review. I want to still keep my 5-star review up from 2 years ago because that was an important review to me. Since April 2016, I have gone back to Wapos at least a dozen times. Out of those 12 times, I have experienced a lack of quality in my food. I talked to our waiters the past few times, and they said they are under newer management and have had staff changes. As a result (in my opinion), the attention to detail in the cooking and service has been below par. I write this review with utmost hope that it is read by Wapos and they kick it back up a notch! The food could afford to be a little more moist and less burnt. I am a fajita addict and am specifically referring to the steak fajitas. I very very very rarely send food back, and the OMG burrito had to be sent back because it was lacking meat and only had beans, cheese, and 2 tablespoons of ground beef. This is my partner's favorite dish and he gets it every time. It didn't even look like the OMG burrito. In this case, I was most disappointed that the waiter didn't recognize that it didn't look like the actual dish, and when we called it to attention, he still did not acknowledge that it was a very half-a$$ed burrito. I am going to take a year off of Wapos (my once-favorite Mexican restaurant of Boulder) and hope that by summer 2018, it is restored back to its glory days of authentic, delicious food and attentive, polite servers. :) I have hope! read more

Last night may have changed how I view Wapos from now on. I remember the first time coming to this restaurant last summer (2017) my friends and I had a great experience I was really loving the food and the margaritas and the beautiful outdoor patio. I definitely wanted to come back. As of last night though, 3 out of 4 of us had to send our plates back. One friend of mine ordered the chili relleno plate. The relleno was in the shape AND size of an eggroll. To me it looked like a small flour tortilla wrapped around the pepper and fried. (You dip the peppers in a batter and then fry it) She had complained that the taste was very off too. Our other friend ordered a chimichanga. Was not even very fried, super soft still and also the taste was off as well as the size. The size of her chimichanga, which management explained, is a 10 inch tortilla folded IN half then stuffed with chicken. The size of the burrito had to have been maybe 3 1/2-4inches long. My plate was the tamale plate. I didn't even get a full size tamale. It was served to me all broken up as if someone took 3 spoon fulls of "mashed tamale" to the plate and topped off with cheese. Yes, management handled everything. Did not charge us for those plates. We stuck to our drinks and chips and salsa. I have never experienced this at any Mexican restaurant before especially not at this one in the past. This establishment/new management is not being fair to their customers. That or they need to get rid of the cooks in the back who don't care to dish out better quality food. read more

Where do I start...this place is a hidden Gem. Coming all the way from Massachusetts I came across this place through yelp. It's a family owned and operated and that is what makes this place boom. The fresh ingredients used are shown in just the few moments to you their since they bring you a home made salsa and tortilla chips to start off with. My fiance and I ordered two different things that were not of the norm from what we usually ordered. I was so surprise with my dish it had shrimp. Knowing this I said I want to try it! If you are a person who loves quick easy and tasty this is the place for you. These guys know how to please there crowd they spend no time on platting there dishes and all the time on how they taste.
