This review is exclusively for the bubble tea. Overall, the bubble tea I had here was acceptable. It was respectable for an eatery that does not specialize in bubble tea, but in my opinion, it does not compare to bubble tea shops that only do bubble tea. I got a small original milk green tea with tapioca ($4.42 plus taxes). I love that you can get it with soy or oat milk at no additional cost. I chose oat milk. I totally forgot to tell them only a quarter sweet, but either the man read my mind, sized me up accurately, or we are kindred bubble tea sweetness spirits because it tasted just right to me. I would say that the majority of the populace would have felt that the drink needed more sugar, but I do not like things too sweet, and the sugar level was comparable to when I order my drink a quarter sweet at mainstream bubble tea chains. I enjoyed my drink. The tea flavour was good, not too subtle, but less potent than I like. The tapioca were soft and chewy, I just wish that I had received more. Service was efficient. While I was there, it was a one man show and there were 2 couples dining in and waiting for their food. The man managed things well from what I could see. The eatery is inside the Byward Market Square complex. It has an entrance from the interior of the building but also an entrance from the exterior from the street. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The space is small so looks a bit messy. I'll update if I return for food. Street parking or paid parking lot parking only. read more

I got some of the best bubble tea here. I got the taro slushie with boba and it's really well prepared. They do take a little time to serve you so be patient. Everyones pretty busy and they are super helpful with giving recommendations It's in the middle of the market so you can either sit and eat there or take your stuff to go and walk around the stores. Sad, sad, sad... so sad! Very hungry and despite the reviews, we gave it a try. Wouldn't do it again! Just look in the window first. Egg roll was fried, and refried again and again to get this brown roll of can't tell what was inside. Everything is old and leftovers just reheated. I love Wang's bubble tea and consider it to be the best in Ottawa. They were my first ever bubble tea experience, so that might play into it a bit. Their mango slush bubble tea with boba is my favourite to order whenever I go. My friend got the watermelon version and also liked it quite a bit. Their prices are very reasonable considering they are located right in the Byward. They have lots of different flavour options as well as boba and jelly. I haven't tried any of their food yet, but I always see lots of people enjoying different yummy-looking dishes. It seems popular among both locals and tourists. Don't let the look of the place deceive you. Delicious food, generous portions. Asian comfort food. Mr. Wang was doing everything by himself: taking orders, cooking, making drinks. His prices for the Byward Market tourist area are SUPER inexpensive; so much so that I feel bad for him. $17.70 to get a giant dinner platter and any bubble tea drink with any add-ins! We got the chicken leg on rice and fried pork cutlet on dry noodles (could have had soup noodles instead but the weather was too hot). Came with egg roll or spring roll and veggies. Definitely a hole in the wall. But good place to go if you're looking for something non-descript, cheap and tasty, this is the place! When you first go in, it looks like an old diner (or a cafeteria) and you have to seat yourself and order and pay. After your food is finished, you go up to the counter to get the food. I ordered the wonton soup with noodles and my friend ordered the hot and sour soup. Both of us paid around $11 for our meals. Not really any service there so don't expect anything too much. The wonton soup was okay, not amazing. It had about 5 pork wontons (they tasted home made which was awesome) and they had udon noodles. The only thing that made me a bit disappointed was that the veggies they had were from a frozen veggie bag. My friend's hot and sour soup was pretty good, it had a very nice kick to it! Might go back there again to try the popcorn chicken but wouldn't go back for the wonton noodle soup. The people who worked there were pretty nice so no issues with service. read more

My wife and I stopped in here for a snack while down in the market. Disclaimer, she is ethic Chinese and immigrated here to Canada in her 20's. She appreciates good Chinese food so when I suggested I give this place one star, she said "I don't mind." To be fair we only tried a couple of dishes and we only ate there once. We had popcorn chicken and a plate of dumplings. The dumplings were over cooked, soggy and tasted like grocery store frozen dumplings. Not that there aren't good ones, but these were not. Ottawa has better much options for good fresh dumplings. The popcorn chicken was just over loaded with salt and almost unbearable. They also took a rather long time to prepare a small order. The location is nice, especially in the summer, but we're not motivation enough to try again. Sorry Wang, we won't be back. read more

I've come by here twice and both times the food wasn't that great. The noodles were mediocre for noodles let alone Taiwanese noodles. For the life of me I can't remember what sides I ordered from here! If you don't really like this place, please don't let it sway you from trying Taiwanese cuisine as they have some fantastic food. I felt the quality of things that ended up in my bowl extremely cheap and it really lacked flavour. Nothing to write home about. This is a very casual Taiwanese eatery in Byward market, with about 6 or 7 tables. You order at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready. The turn around for food seems to be quite fast, although I was here on a quiet and snowy Sunday night - not sure what it is like during peak hours. I had the wonton soup with noodles ($11). Portion size was just right but I do think there could be many improvements made. The pork wontons had soggy skin, several of which fell apart in my soup. The thick udon like noodles were also soggier than I'd like. And lastly for $11 (which in my opinion is not particularly cheap for 5 dumplings in soup) I am expecting more. However, the soup was hot and the vegetables were crunchy. If I am ever back, I would probably order something else - the BBQ chicken rice and Taiwanese fried chicken looked better. read more

I tried this place because they were in the Byward market which I visit fairly often. The lunch special seemed like a good deal, so i gave it a try. I went for the BBQ chicken and the noodles. Overall the chicken was well seasoned but the portion was relatively small. The rest of the plate wasn't very special: the vegetables were as bland as they could be as they were just a bit boiled, the noodles weren't flavourful and the sauce wasn't evenly distributed. It's a Taiwanese noodle house inside the Byward market. I used to studying in the Second Cup on Rideau St. and always saw a retired librarian sitting in the café and sketching cartoons. One time he came over me and asked me whether I know Wang's Noodle or not. I quickly realized that it must be a Chinese restaurant near by. He told me that he always grabs something to eat there every two or three days after his retirement. This story was the reason that I decided to have a try. I love the sea-tangle there and beef with rice or with dry noodle. The owner is a mid-age Taiwanese male and he is always very friendly. Ordered wonton dried noodles. Got a plate of plain steamed vegetables with noodles covered in soy sauce. Absolutely no flavour whatsoever. I just don't understand how you can serve plain steamed bean sprouts. I would definitely not recommend this place to people looking for a Taiwanese experience, they advertise authentic Taiwanese food but this is western baby food. Dumplings are frozen store bought and taste like dog food, we each tried one and couldn't touch the rest. They also put a baozi steamed bun in one of the soups because they ran out of frozen wontons. My honest opinion? Don't eat here if you want authentic food. My lunch special - bbq chicken with noodle soup was barely decent. The chicken seemed to be cooked in a slow cooker which destroyed the texture and flavour and made it dry. The noodles seemed like pre-packaged noodles just boiled and dumped in soup.
