vegetarian noodles

This place was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! You can tell all their ingredients are fresh and made right to order. The staff is very friendly and nice! They are quick on their toes and very on point with the service. Don't worry... you will never go thirsty either, as they will always come by and top off your water cup every 1-2mins. I enjoyed this personally as i drink a lot of water so it's nice not having to ask for a refill constantly. The vibes and ambience of the place was awesome! You can literally see them hand pull all the noodles and cut the meat of your choice fresh right there behind the glass. Everything was flavorful and cooked with passion and love. I highly recommend anyone checking this out!!!

Always order the same traditional Lanzhou noodle Kuan when in Ottawa and little spicy.

Beef noodle with Joye noodles and spicy

Broth was very tasty! The house made chili oil very good! The homemade hand pulled noodles had such great chew to them and a seriously large portion. I had the Joye noodles. I like the wider noodle. So good over all! Great staff as well

The noodles are so yummy and hand pulled. You can see them making it which is super fun. As someone from the GTA and a predominantly east asian town, this feels super authentic and right at home for me. Their chili sauce is really tasty. A size medium is a HUGE portion easily for two people or two meals! Even if you bring a big eater they wont be disappointed The inside is very clean with comfortable seating. In a low key spot in the byward market. Staff are attentive and are english proficient :)

Traditional Beef Noodle Soup with Three XI Noodles

While I love Chinese food, I would usually not choose to go to a Chinese restaurant if I was in the Byward Market. But a friend told me that this place has hand pulled noodles that were pretty good, so I had to try it. I had the traditional hand pulled noodles with beef, as that seemed to be what they were known for. I got the small size with the "three xi" noodle which is apparently the most popular noodle. It's a little on the thicker side which I prefer. The small was quite big! The noodles were so chewy and had the perfect texture, and the beef was so good! It was sliced beef brisket and it was tender. The dish was really simple but I enjoyed it. What made this even better is that the service was excellent. I didn't expect this to be honest, especially because I'm so used to Chinese restaurants in Markham where the service is mediocre, but expected. They came by often to refill our water, make sure we didn't need anything else, etc. It was super friendly and I really enjoyed my meal there! It's too bad they will be closed for dine in for the third lockdown. I hope more people will check this place out and support a local friendly small business.

Braised beef tendon noodle

Wasn't planning on eating, but walked by (before the lockdown) and it looked good. They pull the noodles right at front, so you can see how they do it. Ordered the braised tendon(?) noodles, and a "chinese burger" which was a bun stuffed with your choice of meat (pork or beef, I chose pork). For the other noodles you can also choose the thickness of the noodle, ranging from a vermicelli-like, to a thick ribbon-like, but for some reason you can't for the one I ordered. The noodles I got were pretty good, the soup was deep and flavourful. The bun was okay. It was nicely packed with meat, but the bun was a little dry and crumbly for my taste. Service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful.

My husband was particularly excited about this and he was very pleased with his beef soup. I want too hungry and got their mushroom side that was delicately flavored and seasoned. Their hot oil is particularly good and made in house. I spiced up my mushroom side with the delicious hot oil. My husband's noodle soup quantity was insane and he could barely finish a third of it. We needed two containers to-go and it took him 3 meals to finish eating it. If you're in the area craving for some good noodles and are really really hungry, this is the spot. They also have veggie options. Too bad I wasn't hungry enough to order one but next time I'm in Ottawa, I would love to try it!

Traditional Noodle with Beef

I've wanted to try this place since I first came to Ottawa! I've walked by it many times and was always so interested by the people hand-pulling the noodles right in the window! I went today with a couple of my friends and we all got the traditional noodle with beef. Portion sizes are huge-- we all got small and none of us finished. I love the difference in noodles. I got the Joye and my two other friends got Three xi and xi. I never realized how much the shape of a noddle effects the taste of the dish. The dish itself did not have too much flavour, the broth had a subtle taste. I added lots of chili oil to mine and it was soooo tasty that way. Service was fast too. Like, really fast. I expected it to be slow because they were hand-pulling each dish but the bowls came out quickly (perhaps because it was nearly empty when we went). I would definitely recommend going!!!

Hand-pulled Noodle with bean sauce & meat

These are some huge portions and some great hand-pulled noodles. I got the traditional hand-pulled noodle with beef, Joye thickness, medium. I have a pretty large appetite but even though it was tasty (especially with the recommended chili oil) I had to tap out with about 15% of the noodles left. The broth has a clean flavour that gets more tantalizing as you mix in the amount of chili oil that you want, and most importantly the noodles have the right amount of chewiness. They're more rustic since it's handpulled, so don't expect everything to be the same size. The hand-pulled noodle with bean sauce and meat was also a standout. Mixing everything together along with some of that aromatic and delicious chili oil really makes you want to take bite after bite of noodles. It's a good balance of savoury and sweet from the meat and spiciness and crunchiness from the chili. What I like a lot about Le Mien's chili oil (you may have noticed me mentioning it multiple times) is that it's not too spicy, but it gives you enough kick along with some smokiness and crunchy bits. Even if you're not great with spice I recommend at least trying to add a bit -- really adds character to the dishes that I tried.

This place serves soup noodles that barely resembles the vaguest idea of Chinese soup noodles. Portion is generous though.

Delicious noodles and meat but huge portions. Couldn't finish my bowl as it was too much for one small person but food did not disappoint.
