The food was ready when I arrived, smelled oh so good in the car on the way home, and was a huge hit with everyone, including the little kiddy-wids who are picky eaters. The last time I ate at Zaky's was many years ago when it was called Zaki's with an "i" and had 3 locations throughout the city. It was fantastic, but then all the locations closed. Then one location reopened and was renamed Zaky's with a "y." I believe that there was a change in ownership (the other 2 locations became other businesses). I'm happy to say that the food is still as good as I remember. The only thing is prices have gone up, and it's not just inflation. I got the Family Feast ($45.49) and the 15 piece Broasted Chicken Family Meal ($40.99) because no one is going to leave hungry on my watch! The Family Feast consisted of 2 ground beef shami, 2 ground chicken shami, 1 beef tikka kebab, 1 chicken breast kebab, naan, rice and salad. The 15 piece Family Meal consisted of 15 pieces of broasted chicken, fries, naan, dipping sauces and pop. We were 6 adults and 2 kids. There were leftovers, lol. The meats in the Family Feast were very flavourful and well marinaded. They were tender and juicy and not dry at all. My mom felt that the beef tikka was a little tough, but I thought it was fine. Maybe it was just the piece she had. The rice was long grain basmati and very fragrant (it had lots of warm spices in it, tasted like nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.). I liked that the rice was not oily. The salad had cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and romaine lettuce with spices on top. Dressing was on the side, which I appreciated so the salad didn't get soggy. I didn't have any of the naan, but everyone else liked it. The biggest hit though was the broasted chicken (chicken fried in a pressure cooker). So crispy, yet not greasy or oily. My dad said "this is better than Popeye's and KFC" and then asked "is there a location near my house?" Lol. The fries were seasoned but not battered and the kids loved them. They were a little soggy by the time I got home with them, but I think that is unavoidable. I'll need to eat in sometime to see how their fries are fresh. Their BBQ and Sweet and Sour dipping sauces are store-bought, but their garlic sauce and yogurt dressing are made in house. Cilantro-hating husband tasted cilantro in the dressing, so be warned if you also dislike cilantro. The person who took my order on the phone and who served me in the store (I'm pretty sure it was the same person) was quick and efficient. They said the food would take 20-25 minutes. I said I would be there in 30 minutes, and when I arrived it was already packed and ready to go. The place looked clean. It's in the same complex as the big Walmart, Bai Du, Mucho Burrito, and Sally Beauty Supply. Lots of free parking. If you like fried chicken, give their broasted chicken a try!

The Short Version: Food truck selling Thai cuisine located…read morein the parking lot of The Apple Saddlery. Pad Thai was good but had too strong a fish sauce smell for my liking. The Long Version: I think this food truck is relatively new (as of 2026). They sell Thai food and don't shy away from the use of pungent fish sauce, lol. This likely means the food is more authentic and the place doesn't tone down it's flavours and aromas to suit local palates, which I always commend, even if the authenticity is sometimes too much for me, lol. My dad loves Pad Thai (actually all noodles, but especially Pad Thai, and also Japchae, but that's another story), so while he was fixing my car, I took his car (with his permission) and went out to Thai Lotus to pick up some Pad Thai for him. The food truck is very modest-looking. They have a branded sticker but the menu is hand-written and taped onto the truck. It's definitely not like those fancy food trucks with colourful and eye-catching designs all over the truck. I got a chicken Pad Thai ($15) and also 2 pieces of Taro Coconut dessert for my mom ($2 per piece) since she loves taro and it sounded interesting. Even though it was a Friday and the menu said they only have this dessert on Wednesdays and Thursdays, I asked about it's availability anyway and luckily for me, they had some! It appeared to be a one-woman show, and the Pad Thai was made to order, so it was a bit of a wait. The dessert was assembled to order so that also took time, but it was all worth it! My parents absolutely loved the food. And of course they shared it with me so I had a taste so I could write a review, haha. The Pad Thai had good flavour and wasn't overly greasy. The smell was too pungent for my preferences but the taste was not fishy. The portion was a good amount, but there wasn't too much meat in it. The tofu pieces were too hard and chewy for my liking. However, my dad loved it so I was happy. The Taro Coconut dessert was a scoop of boiled and mashed taro inside a small cup made of banana leaf with coconut milk poured on top. I rarely see this dessert on any Thai restaurant menu. My mom loved it. I had a tiny taste and it was great. The taro was coarsely mashed so it still had nice chunks of taro in it. The dessert was not too sweet, which I appreciated. It was my first time having this dessert but I would say it's very similar to the Vietnamese dessert called Chè Khoai Môn except without the sweet glutinous rice or sago. They only accept cash or debit. No credit cards. They are parked in the Apple Saddlery parking lot along with a few other food trucks. Lots of free parking for customers. I'm thrilled the food was a huge hit with my parents. I will definitely return to treat my parents to some more of their menu items. Review #100 (2026)

I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). It's a place that sells rice bowls with international fusion flavours. The bowls are a bit on the small side for my large appetite, lol, but they are big on flavour! I like my flavours bold and potent and that's what the flavours are like here. The bowls are colourful, lots of different textures and the taste is excellent. Their meat bowls run $18.99-$19.99 and their vegetarian bowls are $14.99. They have smaller lunch portions that run $12.99 which includes a drink. Staff were courteous. It's exclusively a takeout spot, no dine in. There's free parking in a shared parking lot with neighbouring businessese behind the restaurant. He cooks an amazing west African recipes of spices over a special variety wood chip fire. The result is an incredible mixture of taste sensations. It's almost like he has a recipe or cooking style that has been lost to humanity. It takes him a little while to make your order, but it is definitely, and I mean definitely, worth it. It's a small informal setting usually with some African regulars watching soccer on his TV etc. Not a sit down place but it's the best chicken in Ottawa hands down.
