This is why Walt gets FIVE stars: As my 2007 Lincoln MKX approached 100K miles I thought it might be a good time to have it checked out. When I called my regular mechanic and he suggested a complete service and inspection which included dropping the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replacing the fluid. I already knew that the MKX transmission did not even have a transmission pan and it became clear that he knew nothing about the type of transmission in my car. That's when I decided to find an expert. I called a friend who is on the board of directors of a classic car club and he recommended a shop where some of there members take their prized show cars - Want's Transmission and Auto Repair. When I called Walt and told him about my car he told me about the type of transmission I had, it's unique features and his experience working on these transmissions. He recommended a service which included draining, filtering and replacing the fluid, scanning the onboard computer to see if there were any transmission related errors and a test drive. (no pan to drop, no filters or gaskets to replace) The price he quoted was half the other mechanic wanted so I made an appointment with Walt. When I arrived I found a clean, well organized and professional operation. Walt clearly knows his transmissions. I brought my older Grand Cherokee in for a transmission service, and I told Walt that it was shifting hard going into 4th gear. I was fearing the worst - that the transmission was on its last legs - but I hoped some fresh fluid might keep it going a while longer. Walt immediately said, "oh yeah, there's a spring in that transmission that always breaks. That's probably it." Sure enough, when he opened it up he found the bad spring and replaced it. Here's the great part: can you even GUESS how much it cost me? Twenty five bucks. He charged me the regular rate for a transmission service (which was quite reasonable) and tacked on $25 to replace the broken spring. When is the last time you got ANYTHING done at a transmission shop for TWENTY FIVE BUCKS?? My gearbox is now shifting like new, I'm very satisfied, and it's all because I was lucky enough to find the right shop. read more

My car was making the craziest noises, like my engine block was cracking in half. Another mechanic told me it was my transmission. I had JUST dropped $3k for a ton of other work and suddenly my transmission dies? I wasn't buying it. I finally brought it to this shop and Walt drove around with me. I took my wife's Saturn Vue for what appeared to be transmission noise. I took the car in and he said it could be the hub bearings and or the transmission. From his experience he suggested the hub bearings first. Sure enough that was the problem. He could have taken advantage and sold me a transmission, but he was honest.
