All or maybe 95%+ of the work (we had some quartzite added in hearth and needed some hardwood floor repair) was completed entirely by The WCFP team. They were on budget, on time, and did great work. We needed to replace our faulty, 25 year old gas fireplace. We thought it would be a straightforward job but it turned complicated when we discovered that the firebox that housed the insert had been incorrectly altered during a family room remodel, and was unsafe due to potential fire danger (yikes)! We thought we had to tear out and rebuild the granite surround and mantel in addition to buying a new insert, but Ryan, the manager, and Julio, the installer, who both came to our house to inspect, offered a much less expensive option of removing the unsafe firebox materials, and adding brick to frame the surround. John, the mason, completed that job masterfully, and Julio did a great job installing our lovely new Regency gas fireplace insert. The fireplace itself is so nice. It has a modern, streamlined look, and although we haven't used it yet because of our nice weather, when we tested it after installation, we found that it emits lots of heat and looks so pretty with the flames and the lighted up embers. From start to finish, our experience with Walnut Creek Fireplace was excellent! Ryan was very helpful as we were trying to figure out our plans and what fireplace would work for us (he even came to our house twice). And we were so grateful that Ryan, Julio, and John figured out how to save our existing surround and mantel (saving us lots of money). I had them replace my fireplace for a more modern one. I read many of the reviews here on Yelp. From my experience I can say that I experienced many of the positive and negative aspects that they describe. I will sumarize my experience here for others. Good: - Owner and the crew were responsive. - They were reasonable to deal with - They did care about making things right and doing a good job Could be better: - Design, there was not real design. Everything is adhoc, but at least they are flexible. - Planning, my install was planned out 3 months, and start was delayed another month, then they outsourced a good chunk of the work to a general contractor they work with. - The outsourced folks people were nice and easy to work with. They were somewhat disorganized. They quality of work was good but not great for example things weren't exactly centered, the walls were Not flat, paint matching was bad. To be fair, these are not noticeable unless you really look hard, however, it will cause issues for me later if I try to put up shelves etc. Advice for others: - Be prepared to closely manage the project and the folks and keep track of everything to ensure you get what you want. - Create your own design diagram and double check all measurements. All of ours was done in their shop, but they did not write anything down, so it was all forgotten. So you will need to do this. - don't expect everything to be smooth and expect multiple delays - communicate frequently with the owner Damon once your project starts. This place is the best. Damon is so helpful in literally every aspect of his business. He demoed and redid a fireplace in one of our living rooms and the whole experience was really great. He came to my house and gave me a bid that didn't change (always appreciated haha) at the end of the job. John came and did demo and hauled away our old fireplace very quickly and left the house clean after he finished. I debated long & hard about whether I wanted to write a review for this business, especially with it being family owned/operated... I was going to stick to the childhood rule, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all" BUT with the mantle almost rocking off the wall after attempting to put up our Christmas stockings this year, I could not stay quiet! We had problems from the beginning with Walnut Creek Fireplace. 1) No contract/scope of work documents. My fiancé & I have both been in/around construction work all of our lives & I was appalled at the lack of professionalism. Everything was communicated via text or phone call, including payment. Which leads me to the next problem... 2) Even the employees were not given the CORRECT information about our install. Damon (owner/manager) never showed up to our home for even 5 minutes to mark out the measurements or give direction to his team before starting the project. If I had not been home during the day to watch the progress & call my fiancé to come home from work immediately, our fireplace would have been the completely WRONG size & the whole thing would have had to be ripped out & re-stoned. By the way, the one star I am giving is for the workers & the way the fireplace looked in the end. They were stand up gentlemen that were very friendly & helpful through everything. It was not their fault at all that they were not told/shown by management the scope of work that was promised. 3) They tried to "cover up" a shortage of material. Damon ordered the stone surround we selected, but did not double check to make sure it was all accounted for. The workers RAN OUT of the corner pieces & just started "making" corner pieces from what they had left! We noticed it about a third of the way through & told them to stop because it looked sloppy. At this point we called Damon & he rush-ordered the rest of the corner pieces to be finished on another day. This should have been a one day install that ended up dragging on & on! 4) Last but not least, the mantle... Beautiful now! But boy, was it a struggle to get there. Damon was supposed to bring the option of stain colors for our wood mantle at 9AM on a weekday. He was a no-show. I took the morning off of work to be there so I could pick it on the spot & then could be stained that day, but it was a waste of my time. He ended up leaving samples later that afternoon when I was already gone. Then we asked for a matte clear coat finish. (The clear coat they had was much too glossy for our rustic wood look in my opinion). Damon told us that there was no such thing as "matte" which is simply not true. We ended up buying our OWN matte clear coat of Minwax for them to use! Finally everything was done, but honestly it was not worth the headache. Plus I just noticed that the mantle is not sturdy. Just putting stocking hangers on it made the entire thing lean forward. Luckily my fiancé was able to drill it securely into place himself. It's disappointing because we were very excited to work with them after reading some of their wonderful 5 star reviews, but apparently we got the short end of the stick on this one as far as customer service goes. read more

I have to be honest, I'm pretty disappointed in WC Fireplace. Damon is very personable, was amazing on the sales day and responds to most texts. We paid 18K for a 60" cold panel linear fireplaxe bc we have a special needs daughter we can't trust not to touch the glass, and we were told it's cold, kid safe, and without the screen that most of the cheaper units require. We had some issues on timing and color but were all fixed in reasonable time frame and no complaints there with follow through. While it looks great, we had a different $8K unit picked out at a different local fireplace but were concerned about the temp of the glass (it required a screen in addition to glass) and the look. So, we were super happy to learn of a cool touch option. That said, after install, it's beautiful but it's burning hot to the touch and this is the response we got below. We were never told additional contractor work would be required or anything or any reason why it's not cool to the touch. WC fireplace did the install themselves. read more

We just got ours installed and I must say, the insert exceeded my expectations. We went to the showroom back in February and got a quote. There was an initial sticker shock due to the additional cost of having to hire a plumber/electrician to run the gas/electricity to the fireplace (that ran us around $2k alone). But actually WCF's prices seemed reasonable when I looked around. Their responsiveness and professionalism are excellent. They always got back to us quickly. And they were incredibly efficient when it came to the installation. I booked a time with one of their electricians (thanks Peter!) who helped arrange a plumber with experience in gas installation as well. They came in the morning and the fireplace guys came in the afternoon. By the time I was home, the insert was there -- no fuss, no muss. And best of all, it looks great. I was reluctant because our fireplace is so big that the largest insert they have still left a good amount of space around the perimeter. They had a guard that helps cover the gaps so you don't notice and to my relief it looked fine. We're excited to put it through its paces this winter! read more

I tend to rarely give out 5 stars due to most of the time due to most places are rarely perfect, in this case some of the slight issues were so minor that it was basically a blip on the screen because this company was beyond timely, quick, fast and efficient and overall courteous. I'm definitely glad I'm a surveyor of yelp and I might have missed this gem of a company. I originally wanted to go more closer to home and find something around the tri-valley and 1 was a close call, but I wasn't fond of paying for an inspection albeit it could have been deducted if we went through them. It's money so I found Walnut Creek fireplace on yelp and scheduled an appointment at the house, Damon was very quick and stopped by within a few days. For me, the absolute bonus but I can see being a negative thing to some is the txting. I love to get fairly quick responses and updates via txt instead of trying to call or maybe even email. So sometimes I would get a txt stating he was 30 mins out or he'll be in the next day at 9am. Upon agreement, he gave us a general idea on square footage on the tiles, sort of a homework project since we were the ones that had to chose the style or design of the tile. His assistant Julio is in my mom's words a extremely hard worker and conscientious of making sure everything is done cleanly and properly. The project itself was roughly 4-5 days and it was one of the quickest and easier projects that we handled so far. I am giving this one star for the lack of scheduling and communication from the owner and his workers.Communication is so essential with clients/customers when you own a business. It says a lot about you as a person and a business owner with the lack of empathy and communication.My sister got two fireplaces from this company, and she loves them, so my husband and I wanted to get our gas fireplace from the same company since she was raving about them.The owner came by and seemed friendly. He measured the fireplace and told us what we needed to do before the fireplace was installed.My husband and I went to the showroom store to look at the mantel and the mantel colors. We chose the mantel and the color we wanted, and the women at the front told us to text the owner what we wanted. We then texted pictures of the mantel and the mantel color to the owner. We paid for both the fireplace and the mantel in that visit. When the company called to schedule the installation, my husband had asked if the mantel would be installed on the same day. The person on the phone seemed confused and said that the mantel was not ordered. So we had to re-order it. I thought us texting the owner what we wanted. He was going to put in the order. The fireplace and the mantel eventually got installed on the same day. The mantel was supposed to be pre-cut to fit our brick fireplace, and it wasn't. The worker then glued the mantel to the brick instead of screwing it into the 2x4. When my husband got home that night he noticed that the glue was pulling from the brick and the mantel was angled downward. After the fireplace was installed, the worker said that someone would come by to show us how to use the controller to the fireplace in the next couple of days. No one ever came by, and we never heard from anyone. My husband then texted pictures to the owner and informed him of the issue. The owner said he would have someone stop by, and he needed to look at his schedule. We never heard back from the owner. On a Sunday in the middle of the day, unannounced, the workers came by to look at the fireplace. It would have been nice to know that they were coming by. My husband called the owner and addressed his concerns with the lack of communication, and the owner wasn't sorry or sympathetic. As a business owner, I would have been embarrassed, apologetic, and wanted to make things right with my customers for not having someone show up to show us how to use the controller, the unannounced workers, and the absence of the scheduled appointment. The worker told my husband and me that he would be by that Monday at 8:30 am to fix the mantel. I waited all day and no text or call to my husband and me with an update on when I should expect them. My husband contacted the owner, and the owner seemed confused about why they weren't here in the AM. Again, at 3:30 pm, unannounced, the workers came by to fix the mantel. Later, when my husband came home, the workers told my husband that the owner had sent them to another job that morning, knowing they were supposed to be at our home finishing the mantel. Again, communication is everything, and it would have been nice to be informed that they were flaking on our job, and I should be expecting them later. No one said anything. The following few days, we found sharp screws scattered on our carpet. Mind you. We have a one-year-old who plays in this room. We picked up all the screws we could see. The following few days, our one-year-old picked up one of the screws and thankfully brought it to us. That is so dangerous and irresponsible that the workers just left a mess, and our one-year-old is picking up random sharp screws they left all over the floor. Then, my one-year-old picked up a would piece with a nail sticking out of it. I am sick and so angry that the workers would be so careless to pick up their mess. We are a paying customer, and it is not our responsibility to pick up after a job that you finish.We again sent pictures to the owner of the screws and the wood with the nail to inform him of what was happening and that our one-year-old son found some of them, and he responded with "sorry, thank you." If I heard that happened to someone, I would be mortified and apologetic, but the owner doesn't care. No call, nothing to try and make it right. The experience that you give a customer is everything. If you are too busy and need scheduling help, hire someone specifically for scheduling who can help you stay organized and help keep customers informed. The owner seems to lack both. Do we love our fireplace? Sure, but our experience has been a massive headache through this process. We are the paying customer, and you should want to make our experience with you as seamless as possible. There was no communication from the owner or his workers. If my customer/client called me with so many concerns and hiccups, I would want to make it right to make the experience with the company better, but the owner could care less. read more

I have a fireplace insert from another store that I absolutely love, it is so quiet and can heat my downstairs family room, bedroom and bathroom on winter nights. I decided that I wanted one for my master bedroom and bathroom. Walnut Creek Fireplace's quote was a few dollars cheaper, but I wish I had gone with the first fireplace provider. I had a fairly large fireplace in my master bedroom, but the insert that I got was only about 2/3 the size of my fireplace. I would probably been okay with that except that the insert is nothing like my first insert. The remote control did not do much to limit the size of the flame. Even at its lowest setting, the flame reached the top of the firebox. The blower is noisy and has a hum that I find irritating, so much so that I don't use the blower except when I'm not in the bedroom. Even turning it down doesn't help. If I'm sleeping and the fan comes on, it wakes me up. I called Damon and he came out and said that's how the fan sounds. So no resolution and now I'm stuck with an insert that cost me well over $4,000 and doesn't meet my expectation nor can I benefit fully from the heat generated because I seldom turn on the noisy fan. read more

I now have a beautiful gas fireplace with a marble tile surround, and a custom walnut mantel that my dad and I built. The fireplace insert is remote controlled and has a variety of flame, heat, light, and blower settings. I love it so much. This should really be a 4.5. My job was more difficult than most because I was redoing the bulk of the fireplace - the face and the hearth as well as a gas insert. So there were many pieces and they did all come together in the end to make a fabulous centerpiece for my living room (I am going to try to get a before-after photo up here, because the change is amazing). You never really see the lead (Damon) except at the beginning and end, which is very common these days, but not so desirable because you are constantly wondering when people are coming and what the work staff will be like for each piece - the mason, the electrician, the gas insert people, the tiler, the mantel-maker. The plus was that almost everyone was terrific, especially the father-son team of Fernando and Fernando Jr. and Justin from Ken King electrical work. The mason had a tough job with demolition of brick, no doubt, but there was a lot of dust left and he chipped the wood floor. No contract/scope of work documents just a verbal quote on the spot which was odd but I still wanted to work with them. Advised me to get tiles and let him know when ready. I ordered the tiles and let him know it was going to be 6 weeks. The tiles arrived and I contacted him immediately and he said he was busy but need to order the gas insert which will take about 2 months. Are you kidding me?! Why didn't you tell me that when I placed the order for the tiles. What a waste of time but it all worked out for the better, I ended up getting the same work done elsewhere for 1500 bucks less. read more

We had the best experience with WCF, and specifically working with Ryan. He was awesome, super responsive, respond to all my questions quickly and did a lot of communication via text vs phone or email, which I totally appreciate as a working mom with a lot going on. We just moved into our new house and wanted to get the fireplace installed before we moved it, about a two week turnaround and Rylan was able to schedule an electrician and fireplace install right before.
