I called RD's in December in hopes to have our first fire in our fireplace on Christmas. Not knowing the condition of the firebox/chimney, I felt better having it inspected first. I dropped the ball a bit in the midst of the holiday madness, and didn't reach out until the week before Christmas. Every other company I called was unable to come inspect our chimney except RD's. Despite being their BUSIEST season, Bob was so very accommodating and squeezed me in for an inspection. Let's just say it's a good thing we thought first before lighting a fire. Turns out there were some serious problems they found. After the inspection, when Matt first showed us pictures of what our situation was, the problem seemed intimidatingly severe (I remember even thinking this is going to cost a pretty penny!). He then gave us the estimate and described how easy of a fix it would be and told us it could be finished in a matter of a few hours! I was shocked at how reasonable and fair RD's quote was compared to some of the other sweeps we had called in the area. Estimate and cost was on the high end, but Dias has experience although he has his apprentice and young guy do most of the work. The work done seems alright so far, but he has problems communicating and is not as honest as other contractors we have had. He makes great promises for embellishments to a project which he forgets about or pretends to not remember. He will jump your back and act like he is going to have a heart attack if you bring up what he forgot to do. But as chimney contractors are scarce, you could do worse. read more

Hired Bob and his assistant for 1 job to fix a rental. Their estimate was a bit higher than a couple of other bids; but given their reviews on Yelp, I hired them. The quality of workmanship was satisfactory but they started the job 1 week after the scheduled start date and only notified me of the delay on the day that they were actually scheduled to start. Since every other contractor needed a minimum of at least 1 to 2 week's notice, rather than starting from scratch, I proceeded to go along with them. Nevertheless, I had to compensate a tenant, since - due to Bob's delay - the place was not ready by the time of the tenant's arrival. As a brief summary of the matter, I wasn't timely notified of Bob's delay, had to compensate a tenant, and didn't receive a discount. Do not waste your time and money with Bob. read more

Other than a few loose bricks, our fireplace looked fine. After Bob Dias inspected it, he pointed out the breaches in the mortar that presented a fire danger. He rebuilt the fireplace box, moving the rear wall farther back and enlarging the opening to the flue to ensure better air flow and safer fires.. I did my homework about chimney repairs and kept on coming back to Bob Dias. He and Brendan work together as a team. Let me tell you there are not too many masonary contractors out there. I have a chimney that needs to be torn down and rebuilt. I got three different bids all at different prices but knew Bob was the most knowledgable. He learned the masonary trade from his father and has had over 40 years of experience. He is passionate about his work and makes sure the consumer knows what work needs to be done and the process of making your chimney safe. He has C-20-C-36-C-29 licenses. He is able to pull a permit with the city when many other chimney repair companies cannot do that because they're not licensed. Along with the chimney repair, he connected and installed my gas log sets! There was a gas line already installed in my firebox before I moved to this house but I know Bob can install gas lines as well. I cannot tell you how many times I've called Bob with questions and he is so patient with all of my questions and concerns. Just had our chimney torn down and rebuilt by Bob and Brendan. VERY impressed all around. Very knowledgeable and professional/courteous. Gave us a fair estimate and even made every effort to coordinate with our roofer to get the job done in conjunction with our roof job. Even after we had paid him in full for the work noted on the estimate, there was about another hour of work that came up at the end to plug some other voids that became apparent on the last day. They spent additional time sealing those up to make everything safe and never asked for additional payment for the extra work. Left everything clean and tidy. Even when our inspector came to inspect our roof job- he noticed that we had our chimney done by Bob and told us that it was a good choice. He knew Bob over the years of being an inspector and said he did good work. When the work is related to your fireplace and chimney that could potentially cause a fire if not done right, you want to feel very confident in the people doing the work. Overall, very glad that we used Bob and will definitely call him again with anything related to masonry. Will probably even call him to get his opinion on contractors to use for other jobs.
