We had a damaged chimney and found Bob through word of mouth. After giving him a call, he came over to our house to give us a free estimate and some options on how to fix it. Bob is a licensed mason, knowledgeable and honest on the pricing and work schedule. When Bob and Matt came over to repair the chimney and fireplace, they were very professional. This was during summer time, so they were working while some days were in the triple digits, and crawled through the attic to add earthquake safety straps to the chimney. Overall it was a great experience working with Bob, and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs any fireplace or chimney related work done. read more

I called RD's in December in hopes to have our first fire in our fireplace on Christmas. Not knowing the condition of the firebox/chimney, I felt better having it inspected first. I dropped the ball a bit in the midst of the holiday madness, and didn't reach out until the week before Christmas. Every other company I called was unable to come inspect our chimney except RD's. Despite being their BUSIEST season, Bob was so very accommodating and squeezed me in for an inspection. Let's just say it's a good thing we thought first before lighting a fire. Turns out there were some serious problems they found. After the inspection, when Matt first showed us pictures of what our situation was, the problem seemed intimidatingly severe (I remember even thinking this is going to cost a pretty penny!). He then gave us the estimate and described how easy of a fix it would be and told us it could be finished in a matter of a few hours! I was shocked at how reasonable and fair RD's quote was compared to some of the other sweeps we had called in the area. Throughout the entire process Bob had been so accommodating and knowledgeable and his honesty made us feel so comfortable with our repairs. He even came back after everything was finished to install our glass doors! Than you RD's we love our new fireplace! read more

Bob is nothing short of amazing! We had a consultation done with Bob about our fireplace. He was prompt , friendly , extremely knowledgeable, transparent and he was able to give us a wealth of knowledge and reassurance that our fireplace didn't have to be touched. That being said if we are ever in need of an expert mason, Bob would be the first person we would go to in a heartbeat! read more

Bob made some major repairs to our fireplace and chimney and it's better than ever. Safe to burn in and we love our new gas log set. Very skilled and highly recommended read more

Bob and team were fantastic! They worked with our schedule, we're prompt and very tidy. After they left for the day it looked as if they were never there. Our chimney base had dropped and the lower half of the chimney bricks were lose, inside and out of the house. Bob is so knowledgeable in his field and is happy to explain what's happening, what to expect and was available for all questions. I wish there were more contractors out in the world like Bob and team. read more

Bob and his team did a fantastic job repairing my chimney. They are professional, thorough and honest.

I can't say enough positive things about Bob and the work he did for us. He is a true professional and expert in his field. He came out of his way to help us out and was super efficient and got the job done in only 2 days so that we had it usable for the holidays. He was v genuine, honest, and was a pleasure to talk to and I'm happy to have met him. Would definitely recommend his services to anyone. read more

Bob Dias and crew helped us tear down our old, unstable chimney and replace it with a new one. Weeks later, we had a leak in our fireplace due to water seeping through the shoulder of the chimney. So why 5 stars? I'd like to think that this was a rare occurrence for Bob and crew, given the other Yelp reviews, and how every inspector and contractor I spoke to during the home buying process spoke highly of Bob's work. But more importantly, he is an honest contractor with A LOT of pride in his work. When the leak occurred, while he was reluctant to take blame, he promised to come out to my house free of charge and help investigate. He ended up coming to my home maybe 5 more times trying to find the leak and fix the leak. All without asking for a penny. Everyone makes mistakes, but I really appreciated the honesty and his desire to make things right, even without knowing that the cause of the leak was from his work. read more

Called RD's Service Contractor for an inspection when I noticed water marks inside of my fireplace. I wanted a fireplace mason because I also lost a brick on the exterior butt of my chimney. Bob came (on time, when scheduled) to inspect the fireplace. He promptly showed me his company's insurance coverages (which I had already researched on the CSLB) and sent me an estimate via email for repairs. I scheduled the work. Bob and his team showed on the scheduled day and completed the repairs in a quick and competent fashion. Bob even completed a couple of "honey do" projects my husband wouldn't tackle...so, I gave him a tip!! I have a rental unit I will be calling them for in the near future for firebox repair. Very satisfied. read more

Most contractors are like toddlers that missed an afternoon nap. They whine, leave crap all over the place, and always want more. Bob and his crew are the complete opposite. They came in on time, under budget, and left our place immaculate. They took our 50s era, non-working fire-hole and turned it into something we can rally around and enjoy. We're now getting cozy around glow of our remodeled fireplace! I highly recommend him. read more

In today's fast paced, technological society, it's rare to find an honest contractor that is a master of a specific craft. Bob Dias is that guy. He's passionate about the work that he does and it shows in the quality of his work. He is a 3rd generation mason specializing in chimneys and fireplaces and a vietnam veteran. He really does care about his customers. His customer service is impeccable. He always showed up when he said he would and always called or texted to confirm. Great communication! We have a home that was built in 1925 and the chimney was broken at the roofline. We had just about given up hope at having it repaired when our roofer recommended Bob. Last night we burned a fire in our fireplace for the first time since we purchased the home 4 years ago! We are beyond happy! Thanks Bob! Highly recommended! read more

Our chimney suffered damage after the earthquake on October 16. We called a few companies and decided to go with RD's Service Contractor. Bricks had shifted and the chimney looked like it was in danger of falling over so we needed someone to come out right away. RD's immediately came out and evaluated our situation, it was as dangerous as we thought. They stabilized our chimney and began repairs. The job was pretty big but they were fast, tidy, and made our chimney earthquake safe. They are a very professional and great crew. We were surprised and happy with the cost of this big repair, we thought it would have been much more than we paid. We highly recommend this company. read more

We had Bob and Matt repair out chimney and install new fire longs. They offer the best costumer service and the quality of there work is outstanding. I can recommended both Bob and Matt highly. John C Orinda read more

Estimate and cost was on the high end, but Dias has experience although he has his apprentice and young guy do most of the work. The work done seems alright so far, but he has problems communicating and is not as honest as other contractors we have had. He makes great promises for embellishments to a project which he forgets about or pretends to not remember. He will jump your back and act like he is going to have a heart attack if you bring up what he forgot to do. But as chimney contractors are scarce, you could do worse. read more

Hired Bob and his assistant for 1 job to fix a rental. Their estimate was a bit higher than a couple of other bids; but given their reviews on Yelp, I hired them. The quality of workmanship was satisfactory but they started the job 1 week after the scheduled start date and only notified me of the delay on the day that they were actually scheduled to start. Since every other contractor needed a minimum of at least 1 to 2 week's notice, rather than starting from scratch, I proceeded to go along with them. Nevertheless, I had to compensate a tenant, since - due to Bob's delay - the place was not ready by the time of the tenant's arrival. As a brief summary of the matter, I wasn't timely notified of Bob's delay, had to compensate a tenant, and didn't receive a discount. Do not waste your time and money with Bob. read more

Reading some of the other reviews it seemed as though they were talking about our experience with Bob Dias. Bob and his crew were fast, efficient, professional, and very knowledgeable. We have an old fireplace that needed work to make it safe & usable ~ another company had told us it was impossible and gave us an estimate of $4k for an insert. Bob and his crew are amazing!!! They are efficient and professional; all my expectations were surpassed! I highly recommend them!

We had a 5-star experience all around with Bob Dias. He came out within two days to give us an estimate, made extensive repairs to our fireplace two days later, stayed on budget and did high quality work. He was professional and he and his partner left our fireplace clean and neat. He came when he said he would, called when he said he would, and honored the estimate he gave. He also spent time with us to make sure that we understood the principles for getting a really good fire going (how to start a wood fire, where to buy the best wood, etc.) In this transaction, there was no room for improvement - we were very pleased with all aspects of his work. read more

Most of the time with contractors people leave 5 star reviews and it just means "It wasn't to bad". (See other posters comments about toddlers who missed a nap) Bob conducts himself, and does his job in a 5 star manner. We are on the end of a home addition and I have had dealings with a lot of contractors. RD's hands down one of the good ones: he shows up when he says he will, does everything he says he will, and does it in the time frame he initially gives you. He reminds me of the contractor I worked for a number of years ago, a rare gem in a sea of mediocre performance. Seriously if you need fireplace masonry done he is the man. read more

We had our fireplace cleaned by Russo's who recommended we call Bob about repairs that needed to be done. We called Bob and he gave a us an estimate. My husband wanted another just to compare and that person even recommended Bob. I can see why...the guy is first so nice and comes when he says he is going to, he was clean and quick and knew everything about the problem and just how to fix it. The job was done quickly and I was able to have a fire on Christmas Eve (he came 2 days before) . I had an appointment and had to leave and felt totally comfortable leaving he and his co worker at my home. When I came home he had fixed my Christmas lights on my porch and also cleaned out my gutter!.. How many people would do that as well...Loved this guy and would sooooo recomend him to anyone read more

Of all the contractors we've hired since we've moved to the East Bay, my husband and I agree that Bob Dias is our favorite! He was a recommendation from our realtor and we couldn't agree more. He showed up when he said he would, he was neat, his estimates were right on, he was very knowledgable, and his work is terrific. I can't wait for it to get cold so I can use my fireplaces!!! Called Bob Dias to see about rebuilding my firebox or what options are available to reduce the draft from the fireplace. He mentioned every possible solution & the cost involved with each whether he was the contractor or not. I felt that Bob was the real deal honest & no BS. He is passionate about his profession & freely shares information. One thing he shared & was adamant about homeowners should NOT pull your own permit when requested by a so called contractor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whether or not I use Bob now I would highly recommend read more

Hired Bob to repair the fire brick and install spark caps on our chimney and found additional problems with the chimney. I'm certain that other contractors wouldn't have been as diligent as RD's and likely wouldn't have discovered the faults in our chimney system. Bob's workmanship is excellent and his responsiveness was great as well. I've met very few people who care about their craft as much as Bob and I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

I didn't know they made people like Bob and his crew anymore! They are delightful, friendly, responsible, knowledgeable, considerate...and they LOVE their masonry!! Bob took care of everything, and then a bit more, all for the original quoted price. He came when he said he would, called frequently, always returned calls promptly, and counseled us on related issues above and beyond the actual work he was doing. It is so, so rare to find people who take such pleasure and pride in both their work, and the service they provide. I got a new (beautiful) chimney, and a shot of faith and joy in my fellow man. That's a lot for the price of some brickwork!! read more

Other than a few loose bricks, our fireplace looked fine. After Bob Dias inspected it, he pointed out the breaches in the mortar that presented a fire danger. He rebuilt the fireplace box, moving the rear wall farther back and enlarging the opening to the flue to ensure better air flow and safer fires.. Bob worked us into his schedule effiecently, so we could enjoy our fireplace this season! His partner, Brendan, was as courteous and professional as Bob, and our living room was left clean and shiny. Extremely professional and competent, we're glad we found him! We would highly recommend his services to anyone! read more

We had our broken chimney fixed by Bob and Brendan. What an excellent job from start to finish. Bob has 40 years experience and he certainly knows his stuff. The work was done with a building permit and Bob explained every part of the current code. I did my homework about chimney repairs and kept on coming back to Bob Dias. He and Brendan work together as a team. Let me tell you there are not too many masonary contractors out there. I have a chimney that needs to be torn down and rebuilt. I got three different bids all at different prices but knew Bob was the most knowledgable. He learned the masonary trade from his father and has had over 40 years of experience. He is passionate about his work and makes sure the consumer knows what work needs to be done and the process of making your chimney safe. He has C-20-C-36-C-29 licenses. He is able to pull a permit with the city when many other chimney repair companies cannot do that because they're not licensed. Along with the chimney repair, he connected and installed my gas log sets! There was a gas line already installed in my firebox before I moved to this house but I know Bob can install gas lines as well. I cannot tell you how many times I've called Bob with questions and he is so patient with all of my questions and concerns. If anyone needs masonary repair on their chimney Bob is your man! read more

Just had our chimney torn down and rebuilt by Bob and Brendan. VERY impressed all around. Very knowledgeable and professional/courteous. Gave us a fair estimate and even made every effort to coordinate with our roofer to get the job done in conjunction with our roof job. Even after we had paid him in full for the work noted on the estimate, there was about another hour of work that came up at the end to plug some other voids that became apparent on the last day. They spent additional time sealing those up to make everything safe and never asked for additional payment for the extra work. Left everything clean and tidy. Even when our inspector came to inspect our roof job- he noticed that we had our chimney done by Bob and told us that it was a good choice. He knew Bob over the years of being an inspector and said he did good work. When the work is related to your fireplace and chimney that could potentially cause a fire if not done right, you want to feel very confident in the people doing the work. Overall, very glad that we used Bob and will definitely call him again with anything related to masonry. Will probably even call him to get his opinion on contractors to use for other jobs. Thanks, Bob! read more
