Fantastic Service! Used them for dryer vent cleanout -the pipe goes about 15 feet from the side of the house to the dryer. Excellent clean out, even took the back off the dryer and cleaned out any dog hair that got out of the pipe into the unit. There were gaps in the mortar, the damper was rusted half open/closed and could not be budged (I tried everything). Diablo chimney removed and replaced the damper and repaired all of the mortar. They even added some bits as improvements. It looks great! They were here for most of the day working on it, but it was still a great price! Let me set the scene.... .....my wife and I bought a beautiful Valor L1 fireplace to replace a cheap inefficient fireplace insert. We had absolutely horrible experiences with trying to find a reputable contractor to install and finish the whole project. Take a look at the pictures....not a big space, but a space that had to be thought through from start to end. Every one of the contractors seemed inexperienced and bid the job off the chart. To keep costs down, I did the demolition in 2 hrs - one contractor wanted to charge me $6K for it. I also hired an architect to produce conceptual drawings with sufficient details for the contractors to bid the job correctly. Needless to say, we struck out multiple times and my wife was going to haul me to divorce court if the project didn't get started. I don't blame her as she stared at a giant hole in the wall for a year! Out of desperation, my wife got a referral to Robert Winters. We contacted Robert and and he stopped over to take a look. After talking about the project and what we needed done, we began to really calm down and trust him. We put a plan together and an a estimated cost. He was extremely busy during this time, so he could not do the project on a consecutive basis; however, that was fine with us. It saved me a trip to divorce court (c:= Robert is highly experienced with fireplaces, ventilation, building code, etc. He does not cut corners and does things right. We really enjoyed working with him and his team. They always clean up, show up on time, are open minded and not judgmental of homeowners that don't know any better. He helps guide you through the decision making process, and we really took a liking to how he handled things. He was able to follow our architects design concept, and he roughed in the complex infrastructure to allow for a very nice finished look. It was a puzzle that many contractors would of screwed up; however, he did it!!! He actually came over to oversee the fireplace installation from the company we purchase the Valor L1 from. Thank god for Robert.....he made sure the install was done right. All I can say is, I plan to hire Robert again....even if he tells me "no thanks" or tells me he doesn't do fireplaces anymore. I will not let say no to us. That is how much we like working with him. Robert is also small businessman with a lot of integrity. Do not screw him around, because he does not deserve it. Called to schedule a cleaning and inspection of a fireplace stove insert that was billowing smoke out into the room, and I was asked what kind of liner the chimney had. When I said I didn't know I was told that I would have to go climb up on my two story roof, remove the chimney cap, and peer down to try and determine myself what kind of liner it was, and that it would be hard to tell. Additionally I was told that unless I could do this they would not be able to help me as they were too busy for people who could possibly have a chimney set up that they do not want to service. Here's the thing...I'm guessing that most of the people who call a chimney sweep company are doing so because they lack either the technical expertise or the physical ability to perform these services themselves. I lack the expertise for sure, and I certainly don't feel like buying a huge ladder just to climb up on my roof and take my chimney cap apart to inspect it myself, all while trying not to fall off the roof and kill myself. This had to be self evident to a degree even as this information was being conveyed to me. If you can get to actually booking an appointment, the reviews on here clearly indicate that you are highly likely to have an excellent experience. With as far as I got, I did not. I'm going to go with two stars because it is truly their right to refuse work and cutting out possibly less profitable jobs is not the worst reason for doing so. The only reason I'm posting a review at all is because I have a personal irritation level with companies that cherry pick business for services they normally perform just because business is good when Im the first one to get an advertising mailer with some crazy coupon when business is slow. Diablo Chimney did a great job on our fireplace. We needed them to remove and haul a very old, unsightly wood-burning fireplace insert, then clean and inspect our chimney. They were easy to get ahold of, gave me a quote over the phone, then scheduled me for the following week. Rex and his associate arrived on time and were professional, clean, and efficient. They completed the job in just over an hour which included lots of questions from us and a explanation of how to safely operate our fireplace. Rex was also able to advise us on what would be needed if we decide to put in a gas insert down the line. They stuck to the original quote for the job ($395) and overall made a great impression. I have had the pleasure of using Robert & Rex from Diablo Chimney for many years in several different houses. They re-built a hearth once and even searched for the no longer made right size bricks to complete the job. Diablo Chimney was great for me. I had a couple different quotes for bringing my wood burning fireplace back to usable shape. They replaced all my old clay chimney pipe with brand new, air cooled double lined pipe, replaced the anchor plate, rebuilt my chase, installed new storm cap/collar and new spark arrester. They hand parged the masonry beyond the flue and repaired the mortar in the fireplace. Diablo Chimney's quote was $1000 less than the other quote and the workmanship is excellent. Glad we called Diablo Chimney! Rex and Corey were 30 minutes early, but I'd rather have them early than late. Rex was very knowledgeable. I requested that they clean the chimney from inside the house instead of inside the house AND from the roof as our roof is made of tile. He said they are experienced with maneuvering around on tile roofing, but we thought it best to just play it safe and clean from inside. Cloth tarps were placed on the hardwood floor inside so there wasn't any dust/ash that I needed to clean up later. After our chimney was cleaned, Rex gave me some great advice regarding what I could do to burn better fires and keep smoke out of the living room. He gave me a decent quote on brick work that needs to be done in our firebox (cracked bricks need to be replaced at some point) and even gave me a recommendation for a good firewood place that I hadn't yet found online. The price was excellent and I have zero complaints with the work that was done. read more

I have had my chimney cleaned before and these guys took the extra time and did an absolutely wonderful job! Super knowledgeable! I would recommend them to anyone! ty guys for doing what ya do so well! BUT..... years later when I moved to Danville and had them come to my home to install a gas insert fire place they weren't able to finish it the day they planned and that caused some issues. Unfortunately the owner didn't come back the day they finished the install so we never really got an explanation of how to work it, where switches were, to expect a lot of smoke the first time we turned it on, etc. There isn't really an owners manual either. Multiple calls later, and a couple they never returned, we still had a gas fire that didn't work correctly. We were able to trouble shoot some things over the phone, but they were going to charge for a "house call" if troubleshooting on the phone didn't work. Finally, after not hearing back this last time we called Cal Stoves (who sold us the unit) to see if they could help. Plus we weren't sure if it was a faulty unit or a faulty install. Ryan at Cal Stoves offered to come out (no charge) to show and tell us the 411 and we have not had a problem since. He did trouble shoot, found the problem, and even gave me a tip on the batteries to save me from having to replace the box that runs it all. Turns out the surge protector was on off (that happened during install). Without getting that turned on we would have always run into issues and it never would have worked to it's full potential b/c some parts don't work without the surge protector. Doing things right are worth a good yelp review... this, not so much! read more

I also wanted to get a professional's opinion about installing a wood burning stove or possibly a gas insert. Robert called me 30 minutes before our scheduled appointment just to let me know he was on his way. He arrived just on time and the heads up was greatly appreciated. Allow me to preface this next part by saying I am extremely selective of who I let in my hime and around my wife and kids. Robert showed up and was clean, well spoken and component. He did an excellent job on the chimney sweep and was VERY CLEAN!!!!!! The cleaning ladies had been to the house the day before and he didn't even kick up any dust, which my wife really appreciated. I spoke with him about a fireplace insert, both gas and wood. He told me he would be happy to install one although, because my house was so small, he didn't recommend it because the heat would be too much. My excitement over getting a new stove was obvious and he could have easily up sold me on a new unit, which he didn't. He pointed out a few repairs I needed and explained, in laymen's terms, what they were. The quote for the work was extremely reasonable. I called him back tonight to schedule the work.
