After having a bad experience with the sales staff at a fireplace store in Dublin, I found Summit to be a nice relief. Ryan and Ted were awesome all along - not just during the initial sales and install phase, but even months after when I needed a little help. I hope their business does well because they are a true asset to Castro Valley and an example for others to follow. I added photos of my install which turned out amazing! This is the Valor G3.5 series with the Murino glass kit, fluted black liners, and vintage iron surround. Summit also installed the wall-mounted control switch and that adds a nice touch. We spoke to a few different shops and, while Summit wasn't the cheapest, they were competitive on price and we got a better feeling from dealing with Ted. He took several calls and a FaceTime session to look at our setup and recommend things that would look right with our livingroom. Giving Summit a follow-up positive review-- they did a great job sourcing and installing a rather quirky sized, Canadian manufactured fireplace for me about seven years ago, to replace the gas fireplace that had been installed in probably the 1970s. It has always worked great and been a really nice aspect of being cozy at home in the winter. I recently put my house on the market and had workmen in and out beforehand, to do various sprucing up and upgrading. The remote control for the fireplace got lost in the process, and I left a panicked message for Summit, hoping they could get a replacement, because the Canadian company's website wasn't helpful, etc. Ted called me back within 1 business day and was super reassuring and helpful about getting me a replacement, so I want to compliment them on their follow-up service as well as the initial great job they do with installation. I'm so happy that I worked with Summit to replace an old gas stove! My first thought when seeing the stove during the realtor's open house was "that thing's gotta go." Not only was it outdated, it hadn't been serviced in years. I was afraid to use it. So this began my journey for a beautiful, high-quality replacement stove. I really liked the Jøtul line of gas stoves (https://jotul.com/us/products/gas-stoves) and luckily Summit is a dealer. Ryan, Derek, and Ted are so professional, friendly, and helpful. It was so great to work with them at every step of the process. Everything went smoothly from my initial call to the delivery/installation of the new stove to service afterwards. They made sure that the Jøtul stove was safely and securely installed and also that they were careful with the surrounding floor and walls. Ryan showed me how to light and operate the stove with the remote (which I really appreciate as I've only used standard fireplaces) and gave me advice on using the stove--you have to open doors and windows (and turn off fire alarms) the first few times while stuff burns off. The showroom had a variety of models/styles to choose from, and Ted patiently explained the features on a couple of models I liked. He arranged for the plumber and electrician to come out and do the prep work; both were very considerate journeyman who worked quietly and cleaned up after completing their respective installations. When the fireplace came, we discovered that it wasn't the right fit. It turns out, being a novice to gas fireplaces, that I had mistakenly mismeasured the fire box when placing the order. Ted and Ryan helped remedy the issue by ordering and replacing the shroud, and at no extra charge to us. It's rare these days to find such high quality customer service. They were easy to work with and their overall price was considerably less than O'Kell's. Because they're small, I felt that I had the best of two worlds - they are licensed and bonded contractors AND they are a small family outfit. They work closely with an electrician and plumber so we didn't have to orchestrate multiple contractors. San Mateo is a bit out of their normal geographic customer range but after reading all of the positive reviews, and dealing with condescending shops here on the peninsula I decided to call Summit.
