Sometimes it is easier to get an appointment at one or the other and when calling to make an appointment, they always offer both location's appointments. It can take a few weeks to get an eye exam appointment. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. They even do texting to remind you about appointments and pickups. The first time I got contacts, they spent alot of time helping me learn how to take them in and out. During my first week of contact use, I thought I got a contact stuck behind my eyelid. As soon as they opened I called and they took me right in. (turns out I had lost a contact and was pulling on my eye, ow!) I even lost my glassses, my prescirption had run out and they gladly let me get a new pair, without a new prescription. I just had to sign a waiver. They said they will allow this for a few years after expiration. They also offer cheap frames, with lens included in the price, starting at 45 bucks. There is limited selection, no warranty but it such a nice option without insurance. The doctors always take time to answer questiosn, review medical history and explain everything. The appointments never seem rushed, although on occasion there is a delay in getting in on time.

Their Google Maps location sent us to the wrong city, which made us arrive half an hour late through no fault of our own. Instead of acknowledging the issue or showing any basic professionalism, the staff told us we would simply have to forgo the appointment -- no flexibility, no problem‑solving, nothing. I switched my husband into the other appointment, but he didn't even want to go because the woman on the phone was so rude, argumentative, and unwilling to listen when I tried to explain the Google Maps issue. We ended up finding a new eyecare provider and canceled the second appointment. When I called Newport Eyecare back to let them know, they were again incredibly rude and combative. They insisted their website clearly shows the old location as "permanently closed," even though it absolutely did not -- and it was obvious they had just updated it that day to cover their mistake. I called back once more to confirm we wouldn't be charged a no‑show fee, and the same woman repeatedly tried to put me on hold even after I said no and simply asked her to confirm we wouldn't be charged. She refused to answer the question, repeating the same script over and over instead of addressing what I was asking. They also claimed they sent letters to patients about the address change. We never received anything. This office has the rudest, most incompetent staff I've ever dealt with. They don't listen, they argue, they deflect blame, and they can't keep their own information updated. Avoid at all costs.

In May I went to see Dr. Gurney and had an exam and ordered Progressives. The new glasses did not seem right for me for reading, but I thought I'd try and get used to them, as was suggested before. They do not test new glasses before you leave, which it seems they should. I finally tried a pair of cheap Walmart reading glasses. Could read much better than my $350 progressives! My wife urged me to go back to the office and when I did I was told the reader part was -2.50, when the cheap ones that worked on me were -4.00! Seems like a goof on the prescription to me. Not sure. But since a few months had passed, June said I was out of luck. She also said something about the far vision (top) of the lens would affect the bottom, which seems wrong to me. My wife had gone back a couple months ago and had her new glasses changed due to a wrong prescription. Her second pair still isn't right, but she refuses to go back again. We will not return here.

When I went back in I was told that they still needed 10 minutes. I was only sent the message because the hour was almost up and they didn't want the negative score on their record. Boy, someone is beating the game. I waited another 15 minutes before returning. One pair was ready, but the second pair was only half way done. I couldn't wait due to another commitment. Since I live out of town it means driving 45 minutes each way to pick them up tomorrow.

They confirmed the referral sat for 3 weeks until I called to follow up on it. Then I was told kids are case by case basis. I explained that I (as the mother) was a current patient and he was complaining of not being able to see the board at school, which should prioritize him. They said they'd speak to a doctor. I had to call again the next day to follow up just to be told they don't have a doctor seeing kids right now. WHAT?! Referral request and run around for nothing!! I canceled my next appointment and will be looking for a new place that's more patient friendly and focused for both of us. Hopefully my child can receive the care he needs asap elsewhere.

She tried to argue with me that if I had an appointment then it must have been at a different providers office. When I told her that I was done arguing and wanted to speak with the office manager I was put through to a Samantha who stated she was Dr. Smith's assistant. Samantha tried to apologize for Taylor stating that she wasn't an employee. I told Samantha I didn't want Taylor to have access to my records since she wasn't an employee of the office. Samantha proceeded to tell me that Taylor was an employee, I stated that until Taylor was properly trained on how to read medical records I didn't want her anywhere near my file. Samantha then said "Whatever! Good-bye!" and then hung up on me. I tried calling back and got no answer for over 45 minutes, not even an answering machine. That's what you get when you hire children to run your office.
