Their Google Maps location sent us to the wrong city, which made us arrive half an hour late through no fault of our own. Instead of acknowledging the issue or showing any basic professionalism, the staff told us we would simply have to forgo the appointment -- no flexibility, no problem‑solving, nothing. I switched my husband into the other appointment, but he didn't even want to go because the woman on the phone was so rude, argumentative, and unwilling to listen when I tried to explain the Google Maps issue. We ended up finding a new eyecare provider and canceled the second appointment. When I called Newport Eyecare back to let them know, they were again incredibly rude and combative. They insisted their website clearly shows the old location as "permanently closed," even though it absolutely did not -- and it was obvious they had just updated it that day to cover their mistake. I called back once more to confirm we wouldn't be charged a no‑show fee, and the same woman repeatedly tried to put me on hold even after I said no and simply asked her to confirm we wouldn't be charged. She refused to answer the question, repeating the same script over and over instead of addressing what I was asking. They also claimed they sent letters to patients about the address change. We never received anything. This office has the rudest, most incompetent staff I've ever dealt with. They don't listen, they argue, they deflect blame, and they can't keep their own information updated. Avoid at all costs.

In May I went to see Dr. Gurney and had an exam and ordered Progressives. The new glasses did not seem right for me for reading, but I thought I'd try and get used to them, as was suggested before. They do not test new glasses before you leave, which it seems they should. I finally tried a pair of cheap Walmart reading glasses. Could read much better than my $350 progressives! My wife urged me to go back to the office and when I did I was told the reader part was -2.50, when the cheap ones that worked on me were -4.00! Seems like a goof on the prescription to me. Not sure. But since a few months had passed, June said I was out of luck. She also said something about the far vision (top) of the lens would affect the bottom, which seems wrong to me. My wife had gone back a couple months ago and had her new glasses changed due to a wrong prescription. Her second pair still isn't right, but she refuses to go back again. We will not return here.

Mervyn came up with an inexpensive frame that would hold my lenses securely until I get home, and which will make a perfectly fine backup pair after I get home! Over the years we have been in dozens of eyeglass stores searching for one that had choices she liked and good customer support. NEO was beyond any of our previous experiences or expectations. I have never seen so many frames, styles, colors, shapes, etc. My wife was able to take frames to show her friends, and every time we came back there were new ones to look at. The owner of the store, Merv, was outstanding to work with. He assisted in choosing or commenting on frames when asked, but also allowed as much time as needed to browse and try frames on. He provided excellent advice on the lenses and spent time to ensure that the measurements and fit were right. This will definitely be our preferred eyeglass store in the future! BTW, the sign on the store just says NEO, so it is easy to miss.

The 1st time was for glasses and they helped me find a pair I liked and my wife liked when I got home. The 2nd time I went because I bent the ear piece and lost the screw. They could not fix it perfectly and gave me a new pair. The 3rd time I was having a problem w/the hearing aids which I had purchased in my winter home town but which they also carried. I brought in the case and charging wire and thought I would be paying to replace them both. They quickly evaluated the situation and said I only needed a new cord. When I asked "how much?" they replied no charge as they had an extra one in stock. That's what I call customer care!
