It had the only eye doctor that did not give me a disrespectful hard time about refusing eye dilation. Dr. Vachon's exam and diagnosis, even with my cataract, was spot-on and I can now see things I've not seen in years. Eye dilations are for medical diagnosis only and not needed just to get an updated vision prescription. In fact, the only poor eye exam prescription outcomes I've had in my entire life - 4 of them in 2 states - were the result of eye dilations and the exams had to be redone every time, even when an ophthalmologist did them - at an average additional cost of $60! Penobscot's optician, Rebecca, also did an excellent job with their selection of frames and with fitting and finish work and my new glasses were ready in half the estimated time. I would highly recommend Penobscot Eye Care to anyone.

They charged my credit card for $184. Yesterday, May 14th I received a letter telling me my appointment had been cancelled due to "provider's schedule change." Given that my appointment is August 4th I'm guessing Dr Luke Gamble is going on vacation. Clearly it does not matter to this practice that I've been waiting 10 months and I've already paid for my appointment! When I called about getting a refund I was not offered to reschedule just sent me straight to billing. As if I was not the first person this had happened to and they knew trying to save the appointment was not worth it. Terrible customer service! Terrible business practices! Do not go here!

Now in my time of need I'm given the company line. With everything currently happening pandemic-wise, I feel it is unsafe and irresponsible of me to go in for an eye appointment just to get an updated contact prescription. When asked if there were any resources or help during this time, I was once again reminded of the "company line". There's many businesses that are meeting their clients needs during this unprecedented time and it's beautiful. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those businesses.
