generally had a great experience from a patient care perspective. but, getting through to their office is hell. it's generally impossible to get connected directly to someone at the office, and, there's usually a 2-3+ business day turnaround on voicemails. it's actually ridiculous. sometimes it's easier to just physically stop by here if you need to reschedule an appointment or such. read more

Total rip off on eye exam. Informed front desk and optometrist (Jessilin Quint) that I wanted nothing that was not covered by vision insurance. Upon checking out front desk confirmed I owed nothing that insurance was good. Month later got bill and was told that optometrist coded services so it had to go through Medical. They don't deserve one star. After previously quoting a price of $400 for lenses in my old frames, they now quote a cost of $600, a $200 increase over the past year. It seemed advisable to look into getting new glasses online, but their prescription didn't include a "PD" value, and they suddenly wanted $50 for that information! They never seem to answer their phones; their answering machine instructs you to leave a message, stating that they will get back to you within 48 hours, but that hasn't been my experience. I informed the store manager that I'd be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Board of Licensure. read more

JUST DON'T DO IT!! The co-owner Jessilin Quint is committing fraud by offering all patients a "complimentary" LipiScan without disclosing it on her consent or establishing medical necessity. They then trick you into a TearLab - again without medical necessity. These allow them to bill your medical insurance with made up complaints and symptoms. This is all against the rules though! Medical necessity guidelines require the examination to happen first and the orders be documented. She also forged my 2014 note from one week to the next signed by another provider that no longer even works at the practice - and provided me BOTH PAPER COPIES! The credential O.D. magically disappeared and the signed date changed. Despite Jessilin Quints claims this is NOT the printed date and she blatantly lies about this. It is a well known FACT that the ELECTRONICALLY SIGNED date is a requirement and does not change. It's illegal to falsify a medical record! And let's not even talk about the fact that this employee left in 2015 - how is signing her name? How many other documents has she FORGED? She lied about half the "symptoms" in my chart and testing that requires Fluorescein dye - so if you ever saw her request your notes! Attempts to resolve this have met with harassing phone calls, lies, and intimidation - Jessilin Quint thinks she can threaten to "document things in my record" to get me to stop reporting her unethical behavior! Please document all the times I asked how you performed measurements and why tests were done for my insurance companies audit because I've sent them all the correspondence! Her office manager also used emails with the Farmingdale location for my children's records as an opportunity to further harass me despite them never being patients at the Augusta location or Dr Jessilin Quint. How many routine vision exams has she billed to medical insurances such as Aetna, Medicare, and Medicaid without establishing medical necessity and deceiving patients into advanced testing without clinical findings in order to get more money?!?! She presents herself as an expert, authors papers, and presentations all while knowingly going against every medical necessity guideline, ethical guidelines of her license, and FORGES a former employees signature on OFFICAL MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION. They even went as far as to alter my children's records from another provider to cover up the fact they FORGED my notes! The electronically signed date on an official medical record does NOT change. I'd love to know how a claim that was processed on 9/13 was signed in October! JUST RUN AWAY!! read more

I had to rate at least one star, however if I could they would get no stars!!! Terrible billing department! I had an appointment in September 2024. When I checked-in I was given a form to complete to update my personal information to include my insurance information which had changed. Smart Eye Care billed the wrong insurance company resulting in the claim being rejected. I received a bill in December of 2024 for the full amount of the visit. I called to speak to the billing department and was informed the insurance company advised them I was no longer insured. I asked them which company they billed and was advised it was the previous insurance company. I told her I had updated my insurance at the time I checked in. She scrolled through my record and admitted to seeing the updated insurance information. She then went on to say she would have to get back to with regards to what if anything could be done. Three weeks later, after I called them back to follow up on two separate occasions, I received a telephone call from a supervisor. She admitted they had billed the wrong insurance company and stated that because so much time had passed, they could not submit a claim to the valid insurance company and that I therefore was responsible for the bill. That is extremely poor customer service and they should make that right by me! I will stop recommending them to anyone and will never go back! read more

I been a SmartEye Care customer, God" since 1990 when I was 20 years old, I am not age 52, and need glasses and they denied me my new pair of eye glasses, and the Eye Dr. Jessilin Quint did a good job at the eye test, but when come to call Maine Care, like I was told by them for her to do, she refused several time, and repeated herself, several times, that she knows they won't pay for my eye glasses, they used to back in 2008 +, but guess they changed their rules now, cause of the Democrats, Replications are to greedy, and don't want to help out people anymore, and I had to argue and fight with my doctor to get her to call Maine Care, like they requested me to have her do over the phone when I called them! Then she offered to send me a Lions Club form to fill out cause I could not pay for my glasses myself, and the form she sent me was a scanned print out copy and it was a mess, you could hardly read the form let alone fill it out clearly to be accepted. So I called her back and she was not there and I left a message for her to call me back again and then she was in and did and Left a message on my answering machine for laneline, and did not say what her call was for, just that to call her back and I did and I left a message for her to now call me on my cellphone # and she did and she got hold me this time, and she claims she called Maine care office and they told her No they don't pay for eye glasses anymore unless your under the age 21 years old!!! I told her that the other day I was on the phone with someone, and I started to see double vision, and she said that's cause you need your new glasses, don't you have them, and I said No" I can't afford them remember? And she said Oh" yeah that's right, that's what this all about, well you need to wear the pair you got now all the time, and I said I can't cause their only for far sight, when I am at my computer or watching TV, I am not far away, I am at least 2 to 3 feet from the PC monitor and the TV 4 to 5 feet away, if I wear them that close its all blurry... So, she offered the Lions club form again to help pay for that and I said yeah" right only if you're a Vet, or Elderly retiree, and she said No and during this process she kept trying to stop me short when I was talking and would not let me finish talking, she was rude. So, I said sure you can send me another one the last one you set was a printer messes it was all messy and you could barely read it let alone fill it out clearly. And she said I was being too picky, and she send me the same thing again!! I told her to make sure the printer prints out a clear copy cause that's other one was not acceptable at all; it was a mess. And she refused to listen to me like always. And I said fine, if I have to post this forum online and show people how messy it came out I will. She said fine, and I said have a nice day and MA stay. I had a terrible experIence with the optical dept. it took 6 weeks to get my glasses. I had to call them several times at the 4 week mark to find out that one lens wasn't ground correctly and they had to send it back. The didn't answer first calls or return my messages. They should have called me. Meanwhile my headaches continued from old glasses. When the new ones came in, they didn't check to see if they were sitting properly on my face. Just handed them to me and said how do they feel come back if you need adjustments. It took me 2 weeks to realize they were too low and needed adjustment. They were bigger frames and lenses so I didn't notice right off that it was a problem. I got them adjusted better but not perfect and the final straw was the screw came out of the nose pad on a Friday, no weekend hours. I want to go out of town Sunday. I do not recommend the Farmingdale optical dept. The opticians are ok. They constantly change but they seem to know what they are doing. read more

I have no complaints about the Doctors, but the optical store in Farmingdale, the man who took my PD was 2.4 mm off , I ordered my glasses elsewhere because the frames I loved was $ 100.00 cheaper, well as you can guess they were off, headache couldn't focus, all because he gave me the wrong PD, so now I have expensive glasses I can't use at no fault of the maker, please teach your employees to take the PD right. read more

Don't trust your eyes or your wallet to this place! I was fitted for a pair of eyeglasses, and was assured that the 'right' size would be ordered for me -- but it was not. Adjustments kept being made, but the glasses either would pinch my face until it hurt, or they'd fall off and the lenses would chip and scratch. After some persistence, a new pair was fitted for me, albeit in a frame I don't like as much, and a new pair of glasses was delivered to me. They finally admitted that the glasses I ordered just didn't come in my size. As my insurance didn't allow for me to get eyeglasses and contact lenses at the same time, I had my contact lens exam but did not order new lenses. The optometrist, who I'd not seen before, didn't tell me that there had been two major improvements to the lenses I'd been fitted for, so when I tried to order them at an affordable price online, they wouldn't authorize it, saying I hadn't been fitted. I was never told there were better options for me, and that I'd need to come in for yet another exam, for which I'd have to pay. Not okay in my book. I'm paying the bills and I value my vision and comfort. I will never patronize this eye care center again. read more

I have been coming here for abotu 5 years and am always a happy customer. There are two locations, Augusta and Farmingdale. Sometimes it is easier to get an appointment at one or the other and when calling to make an appointment, they always offer both location's appointments. It can take a few weeks to get an eye exam appointment. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. They even do texting to remind you about appointments and pickups. The first time I got contacts, they spent alot of time helping me learn how to take them in and out. During my first week of contact use, I thought I got a contact stuck behind my eyelid. As soon as they opened I called and they took me right in. (turns out I had lost a contact and was pulling on my eye, ow!) I even lost my glassses, my prescirption had run out and they gladly let me get a new pair, without a new prescription. I just had to sign a waiver. They said they will allow this for a few years after expiration. They also offer cheap frames, with lens included in the price, starting at 45 bucks. There is limited selection, no warranty but it such a nice option without insurance. The doctors always take time to answer questiosn, review medical history and explain everything. The appointments never seem rushed, although on occasion there is a delay in getting in on time. read more

Terrible establishment! Have been a long time customer and have received the worst customer service the last couple years. We recently brought our 10 year old for her first eye exam and glasses. The lady that set her up for the Dr was rude to our daughter several times and told her she was making her nauseous. We have four kids and I can honestly say this is the angel of the group. I will not be visiting Smart Eye Care again, nor will I take my children there. I would highly recommend against entrusting your eye care to these people. read more

I was on vacation in beautiful Belgrade Lakes when one of my contacts ripped. After multiple calls and visits to competitors who either couldn't or WOULDN'T (!) help me I went to Smart Eye Care with prescription in hand. Not only were they helpful they were kind and friendly. I had a short wait and then they appeared with a tester lens, no charge. I am extremely grateful for their generosity and professionalism and highly recommend anyone needing eye care visit this facility. read more

This is another recommendation I took from Yelp... Being new to Augusta, I had no idea where to go for an eye doctor. Smart Eye Care Center was right on Western Ave, so I decided to give it a shot. It was really easy to get an appointment, and they are open until 7 on Tuesdays, which is perfect since it's hard for me to leave work during the day. The receptionists are all very nice and willing to help. I have a biased view of doctors and I strongly prefer having a younger doctor over an older doctor because I feel like they are the most well educated in modern practices. Both my tech and doctor were great! They have modern technology so that instead of getting your pupils dilated, you can just get a special picture taken. It cost $30 more, but sure beats being blind for the rest of the day. I am kind of a pain as a patient and ask a lot of questions like "what does this mean" . Everyone was willing to answer my questions and even pulled things up on the internet so I could see other examples. I was being fitted for contacts, and ended up having to come back a few times until I got the right fit. I never felt rushed while being there. The prices are really good. I looked up the cost of the same of contacts on various sites online and it ended up being the same price. If I am still in town, I will come back here next year! read more

I waited over a month to get an appointment, the day of my appointment they called and canceled because the doctor (Dr. Smart) was out sick. they said they couldn't reschedule me for another month!..... not how things should be done. I will find another place that will make me a better priority. read more

I wish I could give this business zero stars. I went there because my daughter had admired two of her playmates' glasses and both are regular patients. Every employee we dealt with was pushy, snotty, insulting, and only interested in up-selling as much as possible. I will not return, nor would I recommend this business to others. read more
