The auto center there is run pretty good, and great service each time I go there, fast oil changes

I really want to support local Sullivan County businesses, even the chains, to help keep money local. But they have to make an effort. This Walmart doesn't. First, appearance. Other nearby Walmart locations, including the smaller one in Napanoch, have clean, refreshed displays. This store got a few brand new black cardboard signs, but most of the store still looks like it's held toghether by duct tape and bubble gum. They've slowly removed things like vending machines in the entrances, so now there's more places for the homeless to congregate, and the store does next to nothing about that. The spot for a restaurant has been vacant for about a decade now; they've made no effort to replace it. Over the years they lost a McDonald's and a bank, and they've only just replaced the bank, nearly a decade later, with a cell phone accessory store that would usually be a kiosk in the mall. This Walmart is not the one-stop destination that others, like Middletown, is. They routinely have the majority of their self-service registers closed, even though they require minimal staffing, so there is always a line. On my most recent visit, only 3 of the 16 were open, all on the opposite side of the building from where I entered. The register I used had a broken barcode scan wand, which I needed for an oversized item, and the chip reader for credit cards was also broken. Does this mean the other 13 registers have worse equipment? When I order items from the website, they sometimes decide to fulfill my orders from this location rather than a warehouse. When that happens, items are usually shipped two days AFTER the guaranteed delivery date. Based on the stickers on the packages, they were packed on time and then left on the side, forgotten. As more and more stores open nearby, they are going to lose a few dollars here and there until we lose them for good. We need this Walmart here; I remember the days when we had to go down to Middletown for basic needs. We need this store here, but they shouldn't take us for granted -- they need to give a darn about us, also. read more

I recently drove cross-country and stopped in many Walmarts. The Supercenter in Monticello is, hands-down, the worst I have ever seen. But I live here now and this, unfortunately, is the Walmart I must frequent. I'll start with the positive: As with most Walmarts, there's a good selection of inexpensive, name-brand products. The store is clean and well-lit. But it is horribly mismanaged. Some of the staff is nice enough but many don't seem to try very hard. The worst issue here is the price tags. The tags are frequently out of place and very often not there at all. I would say a good 10-15% of items have price discrepancies. I learned to always check and use the Walmart app to scan the bar code. Isn't scanning and tagging supposed to be the store's job? One item scanned at $6 but when I got to checkout, it was $10. I complained and the clerk used her scanning app -- which came up blank. She scanned it again, still blank. And again. And again. And again. Literally ten times before we suggested she call someone. She could see my scan but has no power to give it to me for the price on my screen. I finally had to leave and gave up. Then there was the day of the long lines. It took literally 40 minutes to get through checkout. No one knew why but every line was the same. Or the day I went to customer service to exchange a Sodastream cartridge. I went up to ask if this was the place to do that. Yes, I was told, and waited 15 minutes. And was then told, "Oh, we're all out of those." They didn't think to mention that when I asked. Let's talk about masks. Some wear them, some don't. Many wear them under the nose or under the chin. Some wear gators or scarves. If there is a staff mask requirement, it's not enforced. I'm stuck visiting this location most of the time but if you can go elsewhere, you should. read more

I usually come here very early in the morning, and no one is at their best. They only have a couple of self checkout stations open, which leads to long lines when perhaps only 50 shoppers are in the store. Customers inevitably lose patience, and staff get stressed. Honestly I kept shopping this morning just to try and avoid the queue (it didn't work), which leads me to believe this is all part of some devious corporate plot to manipulate my retail behavior. That said, it's a big store with lots of stuff at low prices. Last week I was here for a lamp. Today I got water shoes. I usually just walk in assuming I'll probably find what I need, and I haven't been let down yet. read more

Being asian can be a bit out of place in this town. You will see people open carry gun and a large Jewish community at this Walmart. Kosher food anyone? We stop here twice. On our way to camping, we stock up on some stuff and they sell like usual all the camping stuff. Corn for $.33 each and trader Joe has it for $.25. Guess Walmart is that cheap. This place is huge!!! You can buy all the stuff but cheaply made. We wanted poncho and they sell for $.97 but they are one time use. You get the point. They don't sell wine here but only beer and mixers. Everything you want and don't want including getting lost in here. I suggest you get a list and stay with it. We walked in for lotion on our way back and end up getting a pizza pan. Line isn't that bad even at busy hours but I only been here two time. There are self check out. The parking lot is huge and do park a bit out to find that spot fast. read more

I have gone to this Walmart in the past, to avoid the crowd from the Middletown location. This Walmart has and is, going through many changes. They are currently under renovation. Still less crowded. Store is a mess. Some shelves are empty and look a little more unorganized than usual. I stopped by around 4:00pm. Merchandise all over the isles, and on wide pallets that block the isles for cuatomers. What really bothered me about this store was the employees. An employee who was stalking shelves was not dressed professional. He had his phone playing loud music with profanity and vulgar phrases. Not professional at all. Disrespectful to customers. No manager around checking on thier employees. Other employees on the Isle over, talking about getting taking there break to avoid working. Not a good experience. Will not return. Not worth the drive anymore. They really need help in the management area. Hiring employees and training. read more

Hard to find help even when looking for it. They Wear earbuds so they can avoid fully being present. Some of the employees are efficient and responsible/kind but you'll have to track them down first. Your better off using your phone app to scan items and pay on there if you have to be do where you must to help yourself. Always police there. Most people look miserable. I waited an hour and ten mins at a locked case for employee help. Then they couldn't give me a straight answer care to try either. I feel ashamed of them. Sorry clean store but constantly out of stuff the service making customers feeling ignored and frustrated. read more

Huge Walmart. In Monticello, NY this store is a destination store for many people for miles around. It provides one stop shopping and its open 24 hours. It has a McDonald's inside. And a nail salon, eyeglass place, and more. It's usually clean and organized but if you go certain times it can be really busy leading to long checkout lines. Easy parking in a large lot. read more

Yelp listed this location as 24/7, so we drove 6 miles because we needed an over the counter medicine. Turns out the location had already closed when we got there. Google Maps was correct on the hours. I see this as a Yelp failure. read more

I've lived in the area for years... there's not many other options for shopping close by. Nevertheless, I do whatever I can to avoid this place. Recently, I was here attempting to check out with four items. There were two lines open along with the self checkouts. The line at self check out was insane, yet, there was an associate that spent the entirety of the time we waited reloading ONE self checkout machine. Keep in mind, we were in line for about 25 minutes. I have never seen someone work so slow, while there was a massive line waiting. The employees name was Javon and I noticed he was wearing a yellow vest. I got a video of how incredibly slow this man was going, while he was obviously ignoring the growing line. Again, I have no idea how this store stays open. The only answer is that there is no other nearby option. read more

I don't shop Walmart much, partly because I find their stores unpleasant, even as far as Big Box stores go. This is pretty much the only huge retailer for about 30 miles, or more, in all directions. I was visiting the area, and needed a pair of gloves, but wasn't optimistic that I'd find something to fit my XL hands in a one-size-fits-all kind of place. Wrong. They had some XL gloves, but none in the style I wanted; and they had a dizzying array, somewhat haphazardly displayed, with a shopping cart full of additional gloves that some employee obviously abandoned for some other work, or a break. Pretty much my typical experience at Walmart: massive selection of things you don't want, and you settle on a very affordable alternative that you stare at with regret for years after you leave the store. read more

OK, if this place failed one health inspection I can understand. But five? My wife tells me she recently saw a mouse in the clothing department, but didn't tell me because she didn't want to freak me out (I hate mice). Until these people get their sanitary act together I'm giving 'em a big fat one star. I mean, five failed inspections! I even seen they just got in Levi Jeans and purchased 5 Pairs @ $20 a pair now thats a super ROOOOOLLLLBBBACCCK!! Lines are unreasonably long. Service sucks but we still need it in the area so we can keep the better stores like ShopRite from being overloaded w the "Walmart Shoppers" I ll pay a little more for better, cleaner products and Much Better Service at ShopRite. This Walmart is definitely worst of the worst. A half dozen more employees to run registers would make all the difference in the world. read more

This place and its employees are a joke, the nicest ones are usually in the bakery section, the rest, are useless, I've literally had to avoid shouting matches with the scrubs who call themselves employees, its pathetic and annoying to live in this county where seems the lowest of the low reside throughout. The lines are extra long, they can't seem to schedule people correctly to keep the business running as one should. Employees are true trash and seem to be proud of it. I have to usually travel to PA or Middletown for any type of customer experience. Sad. read more

Worst costumer service experience, was there with my mom and dad buying groceries and a bottle Of wine and 2 packs of Smirnoff ice, waiting in line we start talking to a lady behind us and the lady at the register automatically assumes she's with us and starts to ask all of us for ids, , we all show ids, the lady does not want to she's not part of our group and they call the "manager" (rich) unknown last name who for one smelled like he had not taken a shower in months and two, completely ignores what we are saying and denies selling liquor to 3 individuals who all have ID's in our group. So we simply we outside and come back in and get the liquor wait again on line... this time no one asked for a ID and when I asked for manager again. They did not know what to do or say. Explained This Is Not Acceptable, Need Now For Funeral Luncheon. Told Will Take Over Hour To make! After Asking For Manager, Two Employees Worked On Platter, getting it Done quicker. The bakery. .. Could not order rolls, told to call at 5 am to speak to baker... This store, the only large retail store in this County is a disgrace. Something has to be done here. The lady working in electronics 5/13/2017 had an attitude before we even dared ask for assistance. When finally asked about an item her reply was "I'm not customer service. "and "we have no more in stock" clearly the item was right behind the desk... When confronted about her lie and asked to contact a manager she replied "Get a manager yourself. " after this - finally got a manager to assist and went to the check out line. While dealing with another customer a male employee then began yelling and threatening us saying "go shop somewhere else" and "Let's go outside! " to the point a manager had to literally drag him away from the scene. When walking out of the store the manager who dragged co worker from the scene told us to "keep walking". read more

Walmart in Monticello is usually dirty and not stocked with the items I always seem to need. The staff in there are rude and always have their pants hanging off their a$$. The lines are always long because of limited registers open. Whenever I do get to checkout I have to listen to the employees that ring me up talking to each other about their "baby daddy" and even using mild profanity. I feel like when I go in there I'm over dressed since most everyone who shops there is in their pajamas or dressed in clothes that dont fit them. However, I'm always in there because it is the only Walmart in Sullivan county unfortunately ... Also, beware of the summer because once you go in you will not be coming out for hours! read more

...It's Walmart. What can I say? It's the only place to get a lot of essentials without leaving the county or shopping online, but at a price. You know you're not getting great quality and there's the guilt of shopping at Walmart at all. And that's just the start of it. When the summer visitors come up, you can forget finding any baby supplies at this place. It doesn't matter how many summers this happens, they will *never* stock enough. This has been going on 10+ years since one of my half-brothers was born, and no end in sight. There are never enough registers open during the summer immediately before or after Shabbat (Shabbat is between Friday after sundown and Saturday just before sundown), which means that the lines are a million miles long as there are people who haven't been able to go shopping for a full 24 hours. Any local desperate enough to risk going out there at this time is on a suicide mission and should expect to wait hours to pay no matter how many or how few items you have. Self-checkout is permanently disabled, so forget that too. There are some good things to be had there when you need them, don't get me wrong, but be *very careful* about when you go. read more

This location had pretty much everything I was looking for. I shopped for groceries only. The woman at the deli center was nice and there were no lines at 1-2pm (there's always a line at the Quincy, MA location I go to regardless of what hour). Check out line wasn't that bad considering the amount of people who were there (weekend of a music festival nearby). Prices were "roooooollback" good - spent about $300 for overflowed cart. read more

This store has been indescribably filthy for so many years that it has become a family joke. Because it's the only Walmart on our way to our summer place, we stop here for groceris, always aghast at what we've witnessed. Open food, vegetables smeared across the floor, shelves tumbled and disorganized. I don't know if it's the management, or if it's the particular brand of shopper this store has to deal with, but I wonder how it has managed to stay open this long. Gross. read more

This store is unfair in it's community trade practices. I reach the store in a timey fashion only to recognize that the sale started some time before the scheduled time. I went for the a air of security camera , I was told that they are sold out. I checked online https://www.walmart.com/ip/Night-Owl-s-4-Channel-720p-HD-Video-Security-System/855892854 at home and it clearly showed four more cameras remaining but is only available in the store. I just left there and was lied to by the associate of Walmart. This is a travesty of customer rights and clean commerce practices. I must say I have actually found the worse Walmart in the entire NY State! None of the employees know were items are kept. After asking 3 associates for the popcorn isle and getting from "I'm not sure" to being sent to the wrong location I just gave up. The place is kept in total kaos, the bathrooms are not being checked in a timely manner, (no paper in stalls) and they smell as rhe need a total cleaning. Human waste on the side of the toilet bowls and floors. No Hello on arrival, no thank you at Transaction end. When I checked out I told the cashier that the last person she checked out had left their package on the counter and was going out the door, her comment was "I'm not going to chase them down! they'll just have to come back..." I was traveling through and thought I would have an Excellent Experience as I always do at My Local Walmart, but big mistake never again will I come to the Monticello store. The place is a craphole simply put. Employees are rude and will threaten customers. They stand at all the doors smoking and blowing the smoke in your face as you walk in. Walmart Photo Center: Do not use their photo center. If you get a confirmation email that your order is ready they still won't be able to find it even with the order # and envelope #. After placing a one hour photo order I received my confirmation email it was ready for pick up. They were unable to find the order once I arrived. I drove 30 minutes to pick it up. They were rude and unwilling to work with me. When I asked if I could resubmit and have them print it they suddenly told me they closed an hour ago and were not able to help me any longer. My email states that the photo center is open till 9pm. Yet suddenly at 8:45pm they said that the photo center closes at 8pm and they could not assist me any longer. So i had to wait 10 minutes because this girl used a gift card to buy cigarettes and didnt have the balance of 1. 25. There were no managers around to void the sale and we just stood there. Then at the cold cut area my fiancee orders some cold cuts and I return later to pick it up. The girl left and even though the others were there, they didnt make note of the order so I had to wait for them to do it again. The prices and the parking were cheap. Come here all the time never have an issue with anything besides waiting in line because they either done have enough people or didn't put enough on . I went there to grab something tonight for my car but there's a piece on the bar to where I can't take it off without them unlocking it. The employees in the auto area were still there so we asked them to unlock it for us and their reply was we don't have keys, mind you they're supposed too because it's their area. It is also 9:30 so I don't understand why they're still there because they usually leave when that area closes so that's why we asked for help. The women kept giving us nasty looks and kept trying to see if we walked away yet. I then asked if someone else could do it they then ignored us clocked out and walked away. What a shame! We, the consumers, depend upon the supervisors, managers, inspectors, etc. to ensure that no matter where we shop; the food will safe enough for us to consume. When inspectors issue a violation, it is not to be taken with a grain of salt. Walmart (Monticello,NY) should have cleaned its act up a long time ago. No excuses! Right now, I give this particular Walmart store an "F" for a grade. Almost a month ago, while I was waiting on one of their check-out lines, I noticed a candy bar pushing out off from the shelf "on its own." As it fell to the floor, another candy bar (that was stacked underneath the one that had fallen) began moving, it also fell to the floor on its own. I couldn't wait to get out from there. Disgusting! So they failed 5 inspections because of rodents. They had to close down the food sections of their store because of all the mice and droppings. Then to make matters worse they knew about this for almost a year and still sold food to the public ! Take are money with a smile while in the back room they were seeing boxes of food that were gnawed on by rats! To make matters worse they only tried to take a serious approach to cleaning up the mess when the state came in and said that's it clean it up or get shut down. They didn't care about their customers they worried about their bottom line. This particular Walmart makes most of their money in the summer from the summer population so this is no surprise that this is the time they decided to take things serious. When it was just us local people they still continued to sell their rat infested product without hesitation! As far as I am concerned to little to late Walmart! I don't think that I could ever buy food there again. When I sit down at my dining room table I don't want to be wondering with every bite I take if a rat sampled my food first...... read more
