I've been a Debbie Downer on Walmart in past reviews I admit. I've been to this Walmart several times in the past several since opening over15 years ago. There have been ups and downs and I just never wrote a review. I've seen them consistently stronger over the past year and they also are completing a renovation. It looks much better. My most recent visit was for a yummy poor man's frozen pizza for a golf party at the beach house. Let me explain further. Red Barron make one of the best frozen pizzas in my opinion. So by adding your own toppings you can hype your frozen pizza that runs around $5 per at Walmart. Feed 6-8 with three Red Barron Cheese pizza. Add Hormel pepperoni or turkey pepperoni. Add other items like sliced anchovies. Six pack of beer is a must. Dress your pizzas out and place in the oven per directions adding an add few minutes. For $31 (w/ beer) for all you will have the best store bought poor man's frozen pizza of your life. Self checkout smooth and friendly with assistance to check DL due to alcohol sales. What can I say? If I go on vacation and there's a Walmart, I'm good. This one may be the only location in OBX and as the closest to Corolla, it's a drive. But as expected, it's well stocked. Unlike past years, one 45 minute drive here was enough. I grabbed everything on my list but when other items were needed, I just went to HT or Food Lion. There's plenty of parking and they have self checkout, which is my preference. This store is also conveniently located on Croatan Hwy near lots of other stores. read more

This store is convenient, location-wise, so we're there quite a bit. It's okay, but they could use some customer service training; most of the cashiers are pleasant, but the Customer Service (at the desk) are pretty mundane. No greeting, no smiles, no thank-you's. The other issue is that we regularly purchase the 5-gallon Primo water jugs, and no one knows how to ring them up. We've been stopped at the doors when leaving because our $7 water jug was rung up as $2 BY THE CASHIER. Another time we went to self checkup and the $2 amount came up; I asked the attendant to assist me in correcting it, and she said, 'no, that's what it rang up for, that's the price'. When I told her I would get stopped at the door, she said, 'no, you're good'. Guess what? I got stopped and ended up having to explain to the Loss Prevention guy what happened, and I had to go back to the Customer Service desk to pay the difference. They kind of make you feel like a criminal. And just two days ago, a cashier rang it up for $2 again. When I told her that was incorrect, she pretty much argued with me. But this time I was not going to get stopped at the door and I stood my ground. Finally another associate came over and helped her ring it up at the right price. The Loss Prevention guy states this happens a lot, and some customers get angry about having to go to Customer Service to fix it. If this is a regular occurrence, why don't they train their people on this? I am just amazed, and I prepare for the worst every time I buy the water jug. It seems Management doesn't care about inconveniencing customers, as we've been told this happens a lot. I don't get it, seems to be an easy fix (train your people!). read more

The place is good overall because it is a Walmart after all with very reasonable prices. However, the staff in the electronics department is very rude. Twice, on separate occasions, I have observed two separate Walmart employees at the electronics/phones counter be extremely rude and racist in their manner. Both the ladies in question seemed to treat different people differently based on what they look like. The staff in the rest of the store has always seemed nice and helpful, so this seems to be a problem specifically with the staff that is at the electronics counter at the back of the store. read more

Went to this walmart with my family on 6/6/2022 as part of our outer bank NC vacation. We were looking for a new grill for camping, because of the constant wind at our campground, it was making our grill not work. Very small aisles. I also purchased a new hairbrush for myself, and the multivitamins that i use (Smarty pants womens!) being that i can never find them at our home walmart. we did find some grills that we needed, but decided to look at home depot, and lowes instead. Mom purchased some aveeno cream as well. we went to self checkout, and had a good experience. i paid with cash for my stuff, and my parents used their credit card. read more

The store was well stocked and employee very nice..they have a lot of specials and plenty of holiday items, Halloween , Thanksgiving and Christmas. . They have a medium selection of summer item and plenty of beach merchandise still available. U live coming to this ealmart when I'm in Barrier Island such a good selections of items. read more

The high point is the workers who are constantly working to keep the shelves stocked. The front end workers from the "chip on his shoulders" greeter to the sarcastic lady who walks slow as a snail when the self checkout registers malfunction are simply horrible. There were 2 registers being manned by cashiers all the way at the end, those two cashiers/workers work their tails off. The greeter stood at the end of our register and WATCHED my husband ring up 2 $30 mega packs of Charmin. When we made a comment about having to check ourselves out the front end worker & the greeter got mad. So as we are leaving the greeter proceeds to stop us and ask for the receipt to make sure we rung up both packs of toilet paper, he then started looking through of bags while accusing us of stealing. My husband kept his cool, but I seriously wanted to tell the jerk to F-off! Seriously, I hate this store and rarely ever go there. read more

Might as well replace all of the employees with robots!! They are good for nothing! I asked one employee stocking yogurt where the cool whip is... she had to ask three other people! Excellent customer service all around from the greeters, the check out people, and the pharmacist. This is one of the friendliest and cleanest walmarts I have been to. Came in while traveling to Duck and this was a great place to stop. read more

Even out of state, I hate this store. I give you props Outer Banks for not allowing them to build one of those huge stores that are unnecessary (I also applaud the fact that the next store close enough to this is over state lines). The day we arrived they were in the middle of repaving the parking lot which made finding a parking spot oh so much more fun. Inside the store was surprisingly big. Easy to find just about anything we needed. And we could tell that we weren't in Pennsylvania anymore because we were able to purchase alcohol in the store. Some prices were lower depending on the sales that were going on in the week at other establishments. Thank god I only came here once while down here when we headed out to get our groceries for the week. read more

This Walmart used to be reasonably nice to shop at. In the last 5 months all I noticed is the incredible amount of employees who linger in the isle chatting. They block your way,have a good old time talking to each other and laughing up a storm. Nobody moves out of the way or is friendly.You feel like an intruder.Thought it would be better after the season,it is still just as bad. Where is management,why do they allow this to go on? Drove 15 miles to this Walmart because the one thing I needed was "in stock" at this store according to the Walmart app... but after walking through the department several times I was not able to find it. Asked an employee for help and they also were not able to find it. Went to customer service and showed them on the app where I had selected the store and the item said in stock. They told me that in their system it was also in stock. Turns out their system is also the app! As someone who works in retail I was baffled that they have no internal inventory system (unless the customer service employee was lying) and rely on the same app customers use. Anyway, they told me that I was out of luck and that sometimes their "system" is wrong. TLDR - don't waste your time, they probably don't have that one thing you need read more

This was the worst Walmart I have ever been to. I was here on vacation and needed to do some grocery shopping, except there was hardly any groceries available. I had never seen so many aisles so barren and picked over. Hardly no deli meat and pallets were left on floor unstocked. PHARMACY IS AWFUL & lied about pick up time. Upon arrival, I asked to pick up a script that was supposed to be ready 2 hours ago and she said they were going on lunch and it would be ready as soon as they were back. Absolutely unacceptable and irritating. Take your business to a pharmacy that cares. read more

So, trying to call the pharmacy today, nobody answers the phone for seven minutes and then the phone shuts off. Repeatedly. Tried calling the main store number, no luck there either. Then called and asked for the manager and got nowhere with them. This is unacceptable for a pharmacy. I'm glad I'm moving soon, I won't be using Walmart as my pharmacy. read more

Clearly no one expects much from a walmart, but this place managed to end up below expectations. We went twice. The first time, for goggles. You know, for swimming. Like everyone is doing in the OBX. This walmart had a huge display of boogie boards and the like outside and sunscreen and souvenirs near the front. What about beach towels and goggles? Slightly harder to find. We ended up circling the entire store - no employees asked if we needed help - before we found them. THe second time, it was for two specific movies. We called, to find out if they had them. Someone answered us and "transferred" us to the right department. Where no one answered the phone. After letting the phone ring, forever, we decided to just go. We found a bin of $5 movies and a stand of expensive, recent movies, which luckily included the movies we wanted. Good luck finding anything. Also, their beer selection sortof sucked. read more

Today, my family and I stopped to buy groceries at this location for our vacation at the outer banks. We had two kids with us and the cashier must of been having a very bad day. She was very aggressive and used statements as "I don't have to" when I asked her to tell me how much was the half of my total. Also, she didn't want to count how many lemons or corn I had in the bags. She asked for every little thing I had in my cart, which I don't mind to tell! It's just her attitude that concerned me Bc she was very aggressive and not pleasant at all. Walmart should hire individuals who enjoy helping others, not people who don't know how to treat customers. Her name on the tag was Corleis and she was on register 6. Great food selection especially fruits and vegetables. Frozen cases were full and canned goods plentiful. I was mostly interested in groceries. Bakery not bad and meat was expensive but had some selection. Food shop here first before going to Harris Teeter or Food Lion! read more

This is our local Walmart, living here on the OBX. We do our best to avoid it and go to other Walmarts whenever possible. It is a given that it is full of tourists- but the horrible staff they bring into this store is what makes it the pits. And the constant restocking they do in the middle of the day- in the middle of the season! Why would you not do this at night? I have had employees literally run into us and never even apologize. The women at the returns desk are rude beyond belief. They all act throughout the store like we are inconveniencing them by shopping there. Don't even get me started on the awful deli staff. I hate it. When we go to Greenville or Williamston the staff are polite as can be. I know Walmart doesn't care a wit about customer service- especially at such a high performing store, but they should. We avoid it as much as possible, but living here, it sometimes can't be avoided. my family and I went there when foods is getting out of fridge. we were shopping there , look good then bought most food .... that what I thought these is foods look nice but not .. some time tricks on people or whoever go food shopping .. also I notice why these sale are cheaper , out of date , and another reason what I think it is. just careful to buy or leave Walmart and don't go there again or don't. otherwise that store seems most tech stuff there a lot than food.. or Call Gorden Ramsay to bring best food he had into KH NC... read more

Great Quality Walmart, but it's too small for the OBX to be such a popular destination.

Easy place to shop, friendly customer service. Got what I needed. Prices competitive. They have the new credit card (chip) transaction machines. Staff restocking shelves. Busy I'm satisfied. read more

This Walmart is probably the average Walmart here in NC but to us NYers, it's crazy inexpensive! Everything is approx 10-20% cheaper than the same exact item at the Walmart in NYC! So if you are visiting, stock up! read more

As much as I hate to give walmart this high of a ratings, we found everything we needed, including fresh produce, bread, and meat. Definitely a good choice compared to the kmart down the street. I shop here often being a local. There is one thing that disgusts me at the Kitty Hawk store. One of the restocking employees is seen there often with his pants hanging low to expose most of his underwear. This may be fashionable somewhere else but should not be as an employee in view of the public and representing the store. read more

This is a small location with a limited selection. They have the basics and plenty of beach/pool needs. The store was clean and conveniently located next to Harris Teeter. We were able to get in a get out without too much hassle. The isles are tight and hard to navigate with a cart. read more

I have been shopping at the local Walmart for many years and I have never been treated this badly until now. I placed a photo order on the 12th of November, and arranged to have them delivered to the the Walmart on Kitty Hawk in Universal City, Texas. Since I didn't hear from anyone for over a month I gave them a call to find out what happened to my photos and they didn't seem to know. I called the store twice and they put me on hold for over 45 minutes and no one ever came back to the phone to tell me what happened. So I drove to the store and asked the associate working at the electronic department and he had no idea where my photos were. When I asked to see the manager on duty I waited for 25 minutes and the manager (Annie) never came to talk to me. According to the on line customer service, they delivered my pictures to the store on Nov. 20th and they even told me the receiver's name who received my pictures...but no one seems to know or care to help me. It seems that no one cares about the customers in this store...associates or managers! This is the worst store I have ever dealt with in my hole life and I will never shop here again. I am sure I am not the only customer who has complained about this store! read more

Purchased a computer that had been owned by some one else. It had a name and password already assigned. Walmart would not take it back!! It was obvious that someone had returned the product and it was repackaged and sold as new. read more

it was a 24 hour walmart supercenter that has all the walmart stuff, really can't go wrong, of course there is NO STAFF around, but that's common at walmart, especially when you want to get out of there and check out. read more

5/5 as far as walmarts go. I have never seen the self check out full, so you can be in and out of there in minutes if you plan right. It's also open 24 hours a day so if you are here in the summer, go late to miss the crowds. They've also finished remodeling and repaving, which is a plus. read more
