Especially if you're from somewhere in the mid-Atlantic, you've come to expect that 24/7/365 you…read morecan always find a place open for a few necessaries be it a Wawa, Sheetz, Royal Farms, Rutter's, etc. If you're in the OBX in the offseason, good luck with that as no such place exist and all groceries stores will be closed by 10pm at the latest. The only exceptions are the two 7-11s on the island. If you're staying in the Nags Head area, this unfortunately, is your horse. Typical small sized 7-11 from the 80's that I guess has most of what you could want for a late night trip with a few notes. * Very small parking lot. Maybe 6 spaces and yes this place can get "crowded" in the offseason let alone what it must look like in July. * Complete non-existent customer service. Both times I went in the same guy was in the back doing ?? while on his phone taking a personal call and never broke stride with that call when he eventually graced me (plus others waiting for him) with his presence to ring up transactions. * Watch out for expired items. They currently have a bottle of their generic 7-11 brand Nyquil in the first aisle for sale that expired 13 months ago. They also have a few other cold remedies in that same area already expired or close to it. * Watch out for items priced as X that will ring up as Y. That pint of ice cream might say $5.99 but it could ring up as $8.99. Attempting to mention it to employee on his phone gets you ignored or eventually he snaps that the price is the price and he doesn't make them. Allllrighty then. So yes, come if you must and/or if what you need is very basic but as long as it's before closing time, make the trip to the Food Lion right up the road. More choices, much better pricing and at least you won't be disturbing someone into doing their job. Pass.

Bottom Line: A convenience store in busy Whalebone Junction with plenty of drinks and snacks but…read moreno gas station. This 7-11 is located in Nags Head in an area known as Whalebone Junction. It is close to where the beach road (NC Hwy 12), the bypass (Interstate 158) and Interstate 64 meet so it's a convenient stop for many people passing through the area looking for snacks, refreshments, bait or even beach gear. This store is relatively old and dated. Even though there is not a gas station location at this store it can be busy in the summer give its location.

Really nice little beach store…read more Very well stocked with items - almost anything you'll need while here - as well as a nice deli in the back for fresh items. We stopped in on our way to meet my mom and her friends who are renting one of the cottages just behind the store. We easily found parking and found the various little items my mom needed for the picnic/bbq inside. I grabbed a fresh spinach salad from the back area for $6.99 and it was delicious! So glad I did... tons of spinach, fresh fruits, cheese, sesame seeds and some really good ranch dressing. It was a huge portion for only $6.99 and if I had to come back, I'd grab the chicken Cobb salad for $8.99 without even hesitating. They have some snacks, drinks, ice cream and everything else up front as well as a small coffee bar. Friendly gals working inside made the whole experience very pleasant. Note - no public restrooms!

Bottom Line: Selling groceries, bait, beach gear and souvenirs in Nags Head's Whalebone Junction…read morefor decades. Cahoon's Market has been in business for what seems like forever and I always seem to make at least one trip there each time I'm in Nags Head. Typically I like to go to Cahoon's to buy stamps, mail postcards and get Nags Head gear. I feel like Cahoons is the only place in the Outer Banks where I can actually get a tshirt and other apparel that says Nags Head versus OBX, which I fully appreciate. I think most people probably visit Cahoon's to do a little grocery shopping or pick up a deli meal at the counter. For me, I mostly like to look at the stuff like games, sunscreen, and souvenirs. But I do tend to eye up ice cream and beer here too! Until recently I didn't realize that the deli actually has quality Boar's Head meats. I visited Cahoon's most recently during COVID and I appreciate that they are taking the pandemic seriously. When I visited they were providing hand sanitizer upon entry an requiring masks. Service was friendly .
