    Walmart, Salem

Poorly stocked and only two registers open at 8pm so of course, there were six or seven people waiting at each. This store hasn't converted any of the registers to the "scan and go" system so it's cashiers only. As much as I would prefer to not ring up my own sale, it does tend to speed things up. On the plus side, this Walmart tolerates overnight parking in their lot. You'll want to be on the side near the GameStop. There was an SUV with a 25 foot trailer (running their generator), another Class B and at least two vehicles that clearly had people sleeping in them. Other than the planes going overhead and one or two motorcycles, it was a quiet night. [Review 17880 overall - 1129 in Massachusetts - 1401 of 2022.]

Honestly I went in looking for something my boyfriend needed and after asked 3 capable people who clearly did. It want to help. The first woman pointed me to a direction. The second woman pointed towards a man. That man then walked me back to the initial woman who then walked me to the The aisle and say we don't have it. It wasn't till I got to the register and spoke to the person who pointed me in the direction of someone who is better at speaking in English did I get any kind of assistance. Adelaida ( if I understood and didn't butcher it too much) helped me actually look for the item took the time to look at the picture and try to assist me. I really appreciated her help. Someone needs to double her pay! Her customer service skills OUTSTANDING!!!!

Ugh. You'd think someone knows English at a Walmart. Floor staff chatting loudly in Spanish all of the time.

First of all, I get it. They have had to raise prices. As long as they are actually priced before I get up to check out, I don't mind. But they haven't been getting in new shipments for a while *(Covid, supply chain issues I suppose), and all the food was stale and overpriced. Marked up. Finally, last week, they got a new shipment of Sam's club cheese and dairy items. As I was checking out, the items were warm, they mentioned the coolers were failing. Their internet was also down, so I couldn't use my EBT to check out, so I abandoned a cart worth $26. I came back the following week, most of the cheese was sold, but the remaining refrigerator cases were 100% not working and there was food inside that was actually molding in front of my eyes. (see pictures) That being said, in the days when this place was a HOT TAMALE you could get Smoked Salmon, Shrimp, Cod, Amy's organic dinners, and a bevy of other totally awesome frozen foods for $1. I don't mind paying $1.50 or $2 if they can fix the freezers, clean up and get back to where they used to be. The staff are also very helpful and a nice melting pot of folks. I've stood up for them when the R-word people come around to try to disrespect them for raising their prices. Dollar Zone, please take care of this store - we all miss it! Enclosed - pictures of rotting food. I still think they are worth 4 stars but y'all seriously need to get your act together. Also, answer the darn phone. Sincerely Jill G

I did manage to find a shirt and some beauty and bath supplies that I was looking for - You really can't go wrong with your purchases in this store. You never know what you can find whether it's a shirt, a dress, a phone charger or something else. Usually you know the pricing is great and you can return as long as you follow their instructions (I try to get an email and a paper receipt for that reason alone). I did have a funny store however -the manager was walking around and she saw of the employees sitting and working togehter- she questioned them whether they were working -they said yes and that someone had said ok. I actually never do this - but I said to the manager that they were working and that I had been shopping in that particular area. I felt as if I should stand up for the young employees and I'm glad I did!

This Target is small as far as Targets go, you will likely find they have a more limited selection that some other targets in the area. That is not to say they don't have a whole lot of stuff. Most of the stuff they have, excluding some electronics is on the budget end of the spectrum. While you will find a good DSLR camera, or a nice laptop, or a huge flat screen, you will not find [much] designer clothing, super high-end electronics, or a wide food selection. However, if you need a toothbrush, socks, or a package of AA batteries, this is a go to place. Prices are not as low as Wal-Mart, but you pay slightly more for slightly higher quality. The store is cleaner, and the staff is generally more helpful. Still, service can be hit or miss. There are some associates that were mean, and some that are helpful. Mark at the service desk is awesome! They have a generous return policy, you can return many items that most stores will typically not accept. Rather than list all of them, I will say this: don't be afraid to ask, especially on high priced items. But it is a no on bicycles, which kind of sucks. Also, while I understand why, it would be nice if they were not required to try to get everyone to get a Target RedCard. They get me almost every time, but I already have one...

This place can singly support the Chinese economy with all of the imports under its hole-ridden, decomposing roof. But here's the upshot: it's good for a laugh. What else can you expect from an indoor flea market? I'm only going to passingly mention the crush of generic trinket stores that fill Mass Merch. They're a waste of space. The remainder of the stores are glorified gypsy tents. That car audio store? A mark-up haven! Take 75% off their asking price and they're still asking too much. The equipment is both inferior and overpriced. Does it even work out-the-door? I wouldn't risk it. The furniture store, which replaced a general store that was there back in the day (these stores operate on a carousel and have a dumb-high turnaround rate), is extremely overpriced. It's like Bob's Furniture, but more expensive with no guarantee that they will honor your warranty at any point. Oh, the furniture store also replaced a noble arcade that once lay claim to these grounds. I would subtract a star for that, but sadly, I have no stars left to deduct. Watching that arcade shrink was one of the saddest montage's of my life. Apparently, with the closure of Building 19, Mass Merch is looking to expand. Who am I to judge, right? I can only imagine what awaits visitors in that new space (please note I'm being literal because I will never step inside this place again, barring a miracle). The only positive thing I can say about Mass Merch is the stalwart Japanese/knife store. I don't like guns, but I'm all for stabbing. And they have a bunch of diverse tools that you can stab with. I can spend a solid 10 minutes in here wasting time. But this orange is not worth the squeeze given its surroundings. Oh, and they sell karaoke machines. Which makes perfect sense in Mass Merch world. Unless you have a disease that compels you to buy things made of plastic, from China, and of a generally shoddy quality, stay far away from here. And if you do have this disease, go to a dollar star. It's quicker and less painful.

There was a lot of variety and it was sort of like a nice indoor flea market. There was a great furniture store, restaurant and a little arcade where I spent a lot of my time playing when my parents where browsing. They also had a little flea market outside. This was a real flea market, not the ones where people sell goods they buy in neatly stacked boxes on the floor. This flea market was things people sell out of their homes which is a lot better in my opinion. Now the place is just a shadow of it's former self. The inside has been transformed into a shady arrangement of little stores that are separated by plaster walls. There's Spanish music blasting from all the different little shops around the place and it's sooo dirty, smelly and just shady. Lets just say that I don't feel comfortable using the ATM in the building. The only plus side is that they still have the flea market on the weekends which is great. There's plenty of parking, if anything there's an overabundance which is awesome. If you can't find a spot, there's always the Walmart right next door.
